Ipod works on Windows 2000 but not on XP
I have an empty Ipod click wheel unit . My Itunes library (about 1200 songs) is safely stored on cd's. I have Windows 2000 in the office and Windows XP at home. If I take the cd's and the Ipod to the office, I can get it to run perfectly. I restore the cd's to Itunes and upload them to my Ipod with no problems at all. When I bring the unit home, and plug it into my XP home system, it seems to have great difficulity recognizint the Ipod at all. The Ipod image pops on and off the my computer screen. If I fiddle with the Ipod for a while,just randomly selecting menu items, sometimes I can get it stabilized, at which point I get a message that it is sync ed to another computer. I try to resync it - sometimes it stays up and sometimes it drops out. If it stays on line, the Ipod sync window appears on the screen, and I get an immediate message "upload complete" from my empty Itunes library. I then load a cd to put something in the library to actually sync with, and it loads perhaps 10 or 15 items then I get a message "The Ipod - Patricia's Ipod can not be updated - The required file can not be found" It stops and nothing else will happen. I have tried different plugs, changing drive letter assignments, reloading firmware, complete restore, 5R's, everything I could find, but still I have no luck. My husband has a new Ipod video which operates perfectly with the same XP computer. So, why does it work perfectly with Windows 2000 and not at all with Windows XP?
Check your firewire connection and/or Windows firewire driver. This is done in Device Manager.

Ipod works on one computer but not the other?
Can someone please help me? My ipod works on my laptop but not the desktop. When I plug the Ipod into the desktop it sometimes shows up in Itunes but says it's corrupt. Which it obviously isn't because it works fine on it's own when not plugged into a computer and it works fine when I plug it into the laptop. Also when I looked in my computer the Ipod would show up as drive j and it would flash on and off. Well, I tried plugging the Ipod into a different port and that worked as far as drive j stopped flashing on and off. I tried changing the drive name and it wouldn't let me because it always went back to drive j even after I changed it to drive z. Itunes is playing music and is up to date. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Please help.

Illustrator extention export PDF file as PSD worked on Windows XP but not on Windows 7
We have a extension that convert files to CMYK PSD with color profile attached. It worked fine (for most of files) on Windows XP but not on Windows 7.
var expOpt: ExportOptionsPhotoshop = new ExportOptionsPhotoshop();
expOpt.resolution = 300;
expOpt.imageColorSpace = ImageColorSpace.CMYK;
expOpt.embedICCProfile = true;
doc.exportFile( psdFile, ExportType.PHOTOSHOP, expOpt );
above code never throw any exception on Windows7, but just no file been saved. It only happened to convert PDF to PSD.
If I manually open file in Illustrator (win7) and export it as PSD, I got ‘not enough memory’ error. I googled a solution make the manual exporting worked but still the extension didn’t work.
The solution for manual operation is set ‘additional plug-in folder’ for preferences-> plug-ins& Scratch disks’.
Any advice?
Thanks!
LingI apologize for not having an answer. I just wanted to chime in and say that I am having the exact same issue. I have never had this before. It's happened ever since I had my hard drive replaced and Illustrator has been reinstalled, so I am assuming that it's a preference somewhere that I have missed?

Wifi works on Windows laptop but not macbook - help please!!
Hi! I'm a new customer to Verizon having just moved to the US from the UK. We have the DSL service with the 7500 Westell router. I've set up the wireless and it works fine on my husband's laptop (IBM thinkpad with Windows XP) but my MacBook just will not connect properly. I can see our network in the list, and it will connect, but either it drops the connection immediately after connecting, or stays connected and the internet doesn't work. The ethernet connection works absolutely fine. Any advice gratefully received!
thanks in advance,
KateQuick quote from the FIOS area..
http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Ipod-Touch-quot-Unable-to-connect-quot/m-p/12508#M1968
remember that all apple products use lower-case letters in the passcode (WEP KEY), and use zero's ( 0 ), not capital O. Then you may need to, instead of just trying to connect to your network, go to 'create a new network' and enter all info there to build the new connection, remembering that you are using dhcp. Or you may be able to, after clicking on your network, find out how to enter your security code (WEP KEY) (passcode).
If you disable your passcode then anybody can use your wireless network
While you are not on FIOS, I hope this helps...

This has been an issue for a while now. Trying to use certreq -enroll -machine [Template Name] on Windows 7 machines fails with not implemented. When I run this command with the -q flag I see that the certificate I want is unavailable and displays:
A valid certification authority (CA) configured to issue certificates based on this template cannot be located, or the CA does not support this operation, or the CA is not trusted.
When I go into the properties of this certificate and goto the Certification Authority tab and check the "Show all enrollment servers" it shows my server greyed out with this message:
The system could not determine if you can access this certificate. Not implemented.
The template sits on a enterprise 2003 server CA and this process works with Windows 8.1 machines. Which means that the template has the correct permissions and is issued correctly.
Is this a known issue with Windows 7 or am I missing something in the config? Help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Hi
I have done some tests on a Windows 7 Enterprise machine and a Windows 8.1 Enterprise machine, it turns out that I have the same issue with you.
On the Windows 7 machines, I cannot use Certreq.exe to request machine certificates, but I can successfully request user certificates, and there is no issue with the Windows 8.1 machine.
Best Regards,
Amy
Interesting. From what I can tell, there are no patches that fix this issue either... -
Ipod Recognised by Windows XP but not iTunes
Why oh why does nobody have the brains to offer a decent solution to this.
I have read the same Sh*t again and again.
It is not helpling. Reset, reformat etc, drive letters, reinstalling e.t.c.
Same Problem Here!!!
This is rubbish,
We are all going round in circles like fish in a barrel.
The same solutions are getting muted again and again.
Being directed to the same set of lame attempts to solve the problem of our Ipods not beeing seen in iTunes.
My Ipod Nano has just been newly formated and tested on a computer with a fresh and raw un-networked version of Windows XP with the original disk that came with my iPod.
It can clearly bee seen by any XP computer I connect it to.
I can copy files on to it, remove files off of it.
Windows is displaying the correct amount of free space and it is drive I: on all computers I have tested it with Three computers: One laptop XP SP1, One Desktop XP SP2.2, One Desktop XP raw new install no SP.
I have used Ipod updater 2005-9-23 and 2006-6-29 and iTunes 5 and 6 on all computers and still no luck.
Oh why oh why soooo much bullsh**, I just wana listen to some music. Sob Sob........i was lucky enough yesterday or the day befor to see that some 1 had posted a mayby solution in as a topic. yet no 1 belived him i still tryed and my ipod dint work the first time i conected it so i updated 4 or so songs onto my ipod using the soft ware he posted but then got bored and left it. yet 2day when i conected my ipod it came up in itunes perfect.

SQL query works in access 2000 but not through JDBC
Hello to all as my first posted message, I have a bit of a pickle on my hands. I have a query which is critical to for my application to function.
In Access 2000
SELECT sb.SeatName
FROM SeatBooking sb, Movie m, MovieSession ms, Booking b
WHERE m.MovieId = ms.MovieId
AND ms.MovieSessionId = b.MovieSessionId
AND b.BookingId = sb.BookingId
AND ms.DateOfSession = #2003/04/16 07:15:00 PM#;
This query works fine. When I insert it into my code
String query = "SELECT sb.SeatName \n" +
"FROM SeatBooking sb, Movie m, MovieSession ms, Booking b \n" +
"WHERE m.MovieId = ms.MovieId \n" +
"AND ms.MovieSessionId = b.MovieSessionId \n" +
"AND b.BookingId = sb.BookingId \n" +
"AND ms.DateOfSession = #" +
cp.getMovieSessionAt(i).getTrueTimeOfSession() + "#;";
The last line of code returns #2003/04/16 07:15:00 PM#; Which is the exact same as in Access.
To rule out some possibilities
- there are other less complicated queries which access the same database but work fine. so my code seems to be ok
- I have tried to use Format() on ms.DateOfSession to match the return value of the java statement (Which is a general date in Access in the format of 16/04/2003 7:15:00 PM)
Any suggestions would be appreciated!Hi Simon,
On my Windows XP system with J2SE SDK version 1.4.1_02 and Micro$oft Access 2002, I have the following table:
column name column type
id Number
name Text
updated Date/TimeUsing the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver (that is part of the J2SE distribution), the following code uses the JDBC "escape" syntax -- and it works.
import java.sql.*;
public class JdbcOdbc {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Connection dbConn = null;
ResultSet rs = null;
Statement stmt = null;
String sql =
"SELECT * FROM Table1 WHERE updated = {ts '2003-04-13 07:53:23'}";
try {
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
dbConn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:db1");
stmt = dbConn.createStatement();
rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
if (rs.next()) {
System.out.println("id = " + rs.getInt(1));
System.out.println("name = " + rs.getString(2));
System.out.println("updated = " + rs.getTimestamp(3));
catch (SQLException sqlEx) {
System.err.println("Database operation failed.");
sqlEx.printStackTrace();
catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfEx) {
System.err.println("JDBC driver class not found");
cnfEx.printStackTrace();
finally {
if (rs != null) {
try {
rs.close();
catch (SQLException sqlEx) {
System.err.println("ERROR: Failed to close result set");
sqlEx.printStackTrace();
if (stmt != null) {
try {
stmt.close();
catch (SQLException sqlEx) {
System.err.println("ERROR: Failed to close statement");
sqlEx.printStackTrace();
if (dbConn != null) {
try {
dbConn.close();
catch (SQLException sqlEx) {
System.err.println("ERROR: Failed to close DB connection");
sqlEx.printStackTrace();
}More details about the JDBC escape syntax are available here:

Hope this helps you.

Remote desktop policy works on Windows 7, but not on Windows 8
Hey all,
We have a mixed environment of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines.
Our standard policy enables remote desktop on all machines (and another part of the policy sets the groups allowed to remote access).
On windows 7, we are able to RDP to all machines
On windows 8.1, remote clients cannot connect, with a timeout error. This occurs from other Windows 7 or Windows 8 machines.
I have confirmed:
- The policy has applied (by looking in the registry under HKLM\software\policies\Microsoft\windowsNT\Terminal services)
- The windows firewall is letting the RDP traffic through (and the issue still occurs if the firewall is off)
- The group policy templates being used in the policy are Windows 8.1 and the GPO was created on a Windows 8.1 machine
- If I set the registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections = 0, manually or via GP Prefs, it still does not work
- There are no visible errors in the application, system or security logs
- I have compared registry snapshots before and after the change below and cannot see any differences in the relevant keys
If I take the machine out of the OU and place it into a "noPolicy" OU, connections still do not work (after setting the regkey above) - however, if I use the GUI to turn off remote desktop then turn it back on, it works. I can then place the computer
back in the original OU (where policy is applied) and it still works.
All this leads me to believe that remote desktop is not being turned on "properly" (for want of a better term) by group policy and doing so via the GUI is doing something different/additional.
So...
- Has anyone seen this before ?
- Anyone know how to turn on some sort of trace logging for this ? I have been unable to find a setting for this as yet ?
Thanks.Hi Ben,
Did this happen to all Windows 8.1 clients?
>>however, if I use the GUI to turn off remote desktop then turn it back on, it works. I can then place the computer back in the original OU (where policy is applied) and it still works.
Did we try restarting the machine to tackle the issue, for sometimes restarting can be helpful.
>>Anyone know how to turn on some sort of trace logging for this ?
I am not sure this is what we want for tracing this issue, but for tracing group policy processing, Gpsvc.log can be helpful.
Regarding how to collect Gpsvc.log, the following blog can be referred to for more information.

Airport express works with windows xp but not OS Tiger
Hi all
I’m a troubled man.
I have recently bought a new Mac pro along with an airport express. I am a first time user of Mac’s.
Here is my problem.
I use a DSL modem and my airport express is connected with the LED indicator in solid green. When I try to connect using my user name and password the “searching for POPPE sever appears at the top of my screen.” And after a few seconds “could not find POPPE server. This happens all the time. I tried to get air tunes working but itunes could not detect my airport express.
Now since I’m an engineer I needed to run auto cad on my Mac so I downloaded Bootcamp, partitioned my Macpro hard drive and installed windows XP on my Mac book pro and to my surprise windows xp found my airport and connected to the server straight away. So I experimented and download the xp version of itunes and what do you know the xp version of itunes detected my airport express and everthing worked fine for Windows! This suggests to me that the problem lies with the mac software as the airport express is working fine. Whats going on! I do not understand.
When I go back to tiger it sees my airport but cannot connect. I run the airport assistant but it cannot detect my airport. I run the utility airport program but it cannot see my airport express. I go back to windows XP everything works fine???????
If you can come up with a solution to this strange problem I would be very grateful.
ThanksThe user name and password may be just fine but the dialer software for OS X may be quirky to the point where it doesn't work with your modem through an Airport connection. My recommendation is to try uninstalling the DSL dialing software from the computer and setting up the Express to do the dialing for you. Your computer connection then becomes straight Ethernet.
If that doesn't work, have you checked to see if there's a newer version of the OS X dialing software available? -
PEAP works with Windows zero but not with CSSC
I got PEAP to work using the windows zero config but I cannot get PEAP to work when usin CSSC on the same laptop.
When using CSSC I get asked for the password and authentication fails. ACS is reporting PEAP authentication failed due to unknown CA certificate during SSL handshake.
Any suggestions?
SethLook at this ....
Server Validation
–The Personal stores are not used for server validation.
–When the configuration specifies validateChainWithAnyCaFromOs, the certificate must be installed in the Local Computer\Trusted Root store.
–Any Root CA certificate included in the configuration is ignored and the configuration is translated to validateChainWithAnyCaFromOs. The Root CA certification must be installed by some other means.
–The certificate store is limited to Local Computer during machine authentication and user authentications when the connection is attempted before Windows logon.

Ipod working on one machine but not another
I purchased a 30gb iPod video today, the problem is after I installed iTunes and plugged the iPod in I got an error message stating my ipod was possibly corrupted and suggesting that I restore it. When I try to restore it says this isnt possible because it can't download the required rescoure. The odd thing is when I plug it into another, much older computer in my house, it works fine. I've looked over a lot of the topics on this forum and can't find anything that has worked yet. Both machines are running Windows XP and iTunes 7, however the older machine has usp 1.0 ports yet it still worked. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Not sure, maybe if you can share the form, I can have a look at it.

Isight camera working on windows side but not on mac!
Hello All,
I have a macbook pro late 2008 version. The isight camera is not being detected on the mac side. I have tried the troubleshooter as suggested by the apple. Also checked with various software to understand if it is a software issue. However the camera works perfectly well in windows side ?!
I know that this topic has been discussed several times in the forums. I have gone through many given solutions but the problem still persist.
Thanks for the help.
Best

Using SharePoint Open with File Exployer - works with Windows 7 but not with 8.1
I am using a SharePoint site. There is an option to open the site in File Explorer [Open in Explorer] that I can use with Windows 7 computers with no problems. However, when I try to use in Windows 8.1, I receive an error message telling me to add
the SharePoint site to my trusted sites even though the site is already a trusted site. I can use this SharePoint command on multiple Windows 7 computers with no problems. I set the Windows 7 computer next to the Windows 8.1 and used the same
I/E 11 with the same security settings. Works for 7 and not for 8.1.Hi,
For your issue, try to do the following:
Click Start > Run->Enter "services.msc" ->Find the WebClient service and select Restart.
In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > Security->Local intranet->make sure the AcitveX control is enabled.
Enable Basic authentication on the client computer, by setting the BasicAuthLevel registry entry of the following key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters
