IPods and water

I was walking to study at one of the buildings at my school in a driving rainstorm, some of this driving rain got into my pocket where my iPod was resting. Now the screen does not light up or show anything distinguishable and there is condensation predominatly around the upper and right edge. Is there anything I can do to get the screen back, the iPod still works because I can use iTunes with it.

Another drying method (I've had no experience with either the method already suggested, or this one, but I'll throw it out there anyway) is to place the iPod face down on a towel and place it near a window that receives sun. Don't let the iPod get too hot, but placing it in the sun will help in evaporation. Leave it face down for around a week. After that, flip it, and leave it face up before attempting to turn it back on or open the iPod.

I dropped my 2nd gen iPod nano in a glass of lemonade a few days ago. I rescued it quickly and it kept working for about 5 minutes (i now realize i should have turned it off right away...shoot!) and then fizzled out. I let it dry and it works totally fine when connected to my computer. As soon as i unplug the USB cord it it dies out (screen goes back and won't turn back on). Do i need to send it in for a "repair" or diagnostics (does it need to be cleaned or something?) or if i just replace the battery will it probably work? There's quite a big price difference between the two so i'm not sure which one to do! Thanks for your help!

Since it's accidental damage, Apple's warranty won't cover it and their out of warranty repair prices mean that it's going to be cheaper to buy a new iPod.
You might want to try these people who will give a repair estimate.

  • My ipod touch was submerged in water and now it is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes won't connect until i put the passcode in my ipod, and i can't do anything with my ipod until it connects. what should i do?

my ipod touch was submerged in water and now it is telling me to connect to itunes, but itunes won't connect until i put in the passcode, and i can't do anything to my ipod until it connects to itunes. so, basically i can't do anything from the ipod or to it from the computor. what should i do?

    Restore...
From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • Stupidly put iPod in water with no case and need help!!!!!!!!!

I stupidly put my iPod in water without a case and when I try yo turn up/down the volume it says headphones which I don't have headphones placed in the jack, and Ive read previous comments on how you take a flashlight and look in the headphone jack and if its red or pink, it means you have water damage. I have done that and when I look in there it's white. Everything else is functionaning excellent. I have tried to turn it fully off and on multiple times. Nothing happened. I have also tried putting in the headphones and taking them out a bunch of times and it did nothing.  Funny thing is, my headphones work gone when they are being in use. It's really weird. Should I put it in rice?

Yes, try in rice fir a week.
    Then
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted. Yes, try again
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • Okay well i dropped my ipod in water saturday night and i was wondering if apple would be able to give me a replacement on my ipod4g

okay well i dropped my ipod in water on saturday and was wondering if apple would be able to give a replacement?

The Apple warranty does not cover accidental damage.  The ipod has a liquid contact indicator installed in it, so they will know that your device was "dunked".  So, you will have to pay the repair price to have it replaced.  The following link should give you the amount you will need to pay for your model of ipod.

  • Water Damaged Ipod and Dead Computer - Can I get my playslists back?

My Ipod was recently water damaged and I have not been able to switch it on since then, I tried the rice method with no success. I even opened it as I was past my warrantee to see if I could let it dry but nothing. I was planning on buying a new Ipod this month but in the meantime the motherboard of my computer died and I was told I'd be better off buying a new laptop.
The computer repair shop said they would be able to back up the contents of my computer but were unsure whether my playlists would still be there. Is there anyway I can get my playlists, music and most importantly song ratings off my backed up music on my external hard drive?
Please tell me there is a solution, I have spent years classifying over 60g of music
I'm not sure I can handle losing my laptop, my Ipod and my song ratings in less than a month....
    Thanks!!!!
    V

Tell the people who are backing up your computer to copy your entire iTunes Folder (NOT iTunes Music folder) to a different drive then copy that file to the new computer after installing iTunes.

Place the iPod in a sealed container with a desiccant for a week. Uncooked rice works. Change the desiccant every day or so for a week.
Do not charge or turn on the iPod until dry. Then try:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod randomly makes a noise, its like an air compressor and water dripping? \

So the other day i was playing my iPod and then a noise started like an aircompressor and water leaking. Its so random just happens, either when playing games, listening to music or just when not doing anything.
Have made sure there are no open apps, but lost as to what to do now.

Its so creepy, it's like its possessed... We havent had noise for 24hours since i rebooted, but my son is aware if it comes on again to come get me and going to record it. I was first heard when we were in the car the other day, and when he said air compressor, I thought it was the 4wd air compressor just too loud. Then he brought it to me yesterday and was really wierd. He wanted me to update the software on it but with the way i'm reading all this crashing happening, one problem is bad enough...lol

sorry, I forgot to put what it said. This is what it said, "iTunes could not connect to the Ipod because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes"
Try connecting the iPod touch to the computer you normally sync it with.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 provides details about the passcode lock feature.
If you cannot remember the passcode or don't have access to the computer that the iPod is normally synced with, you can restore it from recovery mode and set it up as a new device without any data. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through restoring from recovery mode.
