how many Ipods can I sync to a single computer?

iTunes is limited to authorizing only five computers with each iTunes account. This means that you can only authorize five separate Mac or PC computers or user accounts to playback protected iTunes content or use Home Sharing using a single iTunes Account.
For example, if you have created five different user accounts on the same computer, and have authorized iTunes for each user account on that one computer with the same iTunes Account, then you have reached your maximum number of authorizations.  This is also true if you have used that one iTunes Account on the same user account on five different computers. Basically, each iTunes Account can authorize up to a maximum of five instances of iTunes.
You can deauthorize computers or accounts at any time following the instructions found at Apple’s support website. Once you have iTunes configured with a single  iTunes Account, there is not no limit to the number of iPods, iPhones, and iPads one can sync to a single iTunes library.

Copy the music from Nano to computer by:

my 5th generation ipod won't sync anymore to my PowerMac G4.  It worked fine, but when I installed a new hard drive it won't work anymore.  I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod.  The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder.  If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application.  Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

  • I have recently copied my iTunes to a new computer using the instructions from Apple site, via an external drive. My iPod will not sync on the new computer. The option to sync automatically is greyed out and it won't let me set it. How do I resolve?

I have recently installed iTunes on a new Windows 8 laptop and copied from my old XP system using an external drive. This all went ok. The problem is that i can't get my iPod classic to sync on the new laptop. I did a factory reset and re-install. It still won't sync. When I hit the 'sync' icon it does nothing. In the Options screen the option to automatically sync is greyed out and doesn't allow me to enter anything in the box. How can i resolve this?

  • Itunes wont sync error message this computer is not authorized

itunes will not sync my purchased songs to my new ipod touch, i get an error message that says, "some of the songs purchased cannot be transferred, this computer is not authorized, go to store, then authorize this computer."   I have done this over and over again, I have even deauthorized and then RE authorized again and again, I still get the same message. Can someone please please please HELP ME?

I have been renting movies on my MBP and a previous MBP for years, and have always been able to transfer the rentals to an iPhone.  I always rent on the MBP and not the iPhone.  However due to a NEW authorisation problem recently I have not been able to play these movies through the Apple TV (V2) like I have been doing.  Others on the Internet have also started having this problem.  I have to resort to airplaying the movie from the MBP over to the Apple TV, which is a royal pain.  What's the point of having all this gear in the family room when I have to get up and go to the office and start the movie playing from there?!  Anyway, also recently I have not been able to move rented movies to the iPhone.  I have tried recursively chmodding the Shared folder as described here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
    and it didn't help.
So now, if we go on a long road trip or flight, we can't bring the rented movies on an iPhone/iPad.  This is a big problem.  No I am not going to bring the laptop on the trip.  The iTunes library is on an external disk on the LAN anyway.

  • IPod won't sync anymore after moving itunes folder

I just got a laptop and want to be able to transfer all my music from iTunes and iPod from the desktop to the new computer. I wasn't ready to do it completely but read that I needed to move the iTunes folder to a shared folder so that I could access it with my laptop via my network. I did not realize what the results would be however! When I docked my iPod to the desktop this morning, I noticed that my iPod was empty after it had updated. All 4000+ songs/podcasts gone! Ack! I noticed that iTunes seems to be ok, all the songs are there, except they all have an exclamation point next to them. Re-docking and trying to sync does not work. The music won't transfer. I put the folder back into the my documents folder but nothing changed. Even system restore didn't help. I am desperate. I am even willing to forget the idea of putting everything on the laptop if I can just get things to how they were. When I clicked on the exclamation point in iTunes it said the original file could not be found. I would hate to have to load each cd in again. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

First I'll explain whats happened. when you moved the folder to a shared folder, then tried to update the iPod it wiped it out because iTUnes had no songs in it. All music shared over a network will not update to iPod, the songs have to be on the PCs harddrive.
What you need to do first is place the folder on the "Old" PC back to its default location in the "My MUisc" folder. It gets confusing because theres 2 iTUnes folders, one is named "iTUnes" the other is inside this one named "iTunes Music". So the "iTUnes" folder needs to be in the "My Music FOlder and the "iTUnes Music" one needs to be in the "Itunes" folder.
Once you have placed it back open iTUnes and make sure all the ! marks beside the songs are gone. DON'T UPDATE YOUR IPOD!!!! Since its already blank, you can use the whole iPOd harddrive to transfer the songs over. Hold down the shift and Ctrl keys. While holding them down connect the iPod let iTUnes open, and when it list the ipod, let go of the keys. this will stop an auto update from happening.
Now rightclick ipod in iTUnes, hit options, select "Manual Update". Now your iPod will be set to transfer. go here and follow the directions for moving the whole iTUnes library and songs to your new laptop. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Once everything is transfered over you can rightclick the ipod and set it back to auto update or whatever you had it on and uncheck "Enable Disk Use"
I also see you have a toshiba laptop, iPOd has issues with some toshibas so this artical may also be of help if you have troble getting the laptop to see your iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836

  • My ipod isn't syncing with my new computer...?

I just recently got a new computer and was trying to put all my music and videos and movies and pictures and stuff on my ipod onto my new computer.  When I hooked up my ipod, only the things I bought from the itunes library synced with the computer.  I tried clicking sync but when I did that, it says that the ipod can only by synced with one computer (my old one) and in order to sync it with my new computer, I needed to erase everything on my ipod and then replace it with the material that will be synced from the new computer.  I don't want to erase everything on my ipod because I don't want to have to lose material that I didn't buy from the itunes store, like what I uploaded from cds.  Is there any way to get around this and still sync my ipod to my new computer?

Also, after I purchased a few things on my new computer from the itunes store, I can't get them onto my ipod because it says it won't sync.  I've tried selecting the different files and dragging them over to the ipod section on the left of itunes but it has a little DO NOT sign on it when I try...

  • Ipod does not Sync anymore

Hi, y ipod touch has stopped Syncing to my G5 tower. Further after I updgraded the iOS on the ipod, NOW it will not Sync on the G5 cuz it's i'm using 10.5.8 and itunes 10.5.2.  Since my last attempt to Sync to the G5, the iPod has erased al the apps, and widgets that "apparently was not authorized"... cuz it was not able to Sync.
My question: is there a way to "copy" my recent ipod backup that is sitting into the G5 powerPC, and copy that to the iTunes of my MAcBook-intel using also  OSX10.5.8, and itunes 10.6. The ipod, has not been backed up with the MAcbook before. Update. after connecting the ipod tothe Macbook, it says it requires itunes 10.6.3.
My most recent backup of the ipod to the G5, was 9/25/12.  I have been trying to find an alternative since then. Short of having to buy a newer G5 (that could handle OSX 10.6 and higher) I now want to use the MAc book to Sync the ipod, and hopefully I can regain all my purchased app that have been deleted (as I was told by a Genius at Apple store)
Any suggestion on how to transfer the ipod Backup file from the itunes in G% to the Mack book itunes??  Where is the file located that contains the back up??  Do I have to copy my entire itunes library??  or can I simply "point" to my G5 itunes library via a fire wire cable that is onto an extra HD into the G5?? (obviously using the G5 as a target mode)
    any help will be welcomed!
    Michel

    llaass,
thanks for your reply.   I checked the ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/, folder, but all files are impossible to decipher which one belongs to what.
I was able to upgrade itunes10.6.3 on the G5 PPC. Another problem I encounter, is that when I attmpt.
The error I get is when I am suddenly being prompted to put my username and password..... but it says it is invalid. It goes to step 4, and says "this computer is no longer authorized for apps....would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased  from the itunes store.... if you do not authorize.. 22 apps will be deleted"
I click authorize, and then my user name is already in there, but my password has to be inputed.  (never had to do this before)  After putting my password i Get:  "there was an error storing your authorization info on this computer...the required directory was not found or has a persmissions error. Correct the permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permission cannot be chnaged".
No I don't know if this problem comes from the fatc that "mobile me" is not more . Like when I go to sys pref, Mobile me (10.5.8 does not have iCloud) and attempt to sign in, it won't work. (BTW my usernam and password is automatically in the respective fields- no need to manually input them.)
Could this problem be due to itunes not being able to log into my "icloud" account vs "mobile me" account?  it is interesting that it stopped working early October, when mobile me went out of biz at end of June!!

  • How can I get my iPod to also sync songs in my computer's Media Player?

How can I get my iPod to also sync songs I already have in my computer's Media Player? Thanks in advance for your help.

If the WMA files are "unprotected", iTunes can convert them when you add them to your library. It should do this automatically.
See: How to add songs from your hard drive to iTunes.
If not, see: How to convert a song to a different format using iTunes.
However, iTunes cannot convert "protected" WMA files.
The only way to convert these files would be to burn them to an "audio" cd and import that into iTunes as you would any other cd.
