IPods, videos, Music Videos, AudioBooks, etc.

Until recently I never worried about where things in iTunes were stored. NOW I have a 30 Gb iPod (w/video) and I'd like to know how the iPod, iTunes, 'Tiger' store things so they pop up in the right places on my iPod.
IE, although I have some Music Videos on my iPod, they do NOT show up in the Music Videos area on the Menu. Same with Audio Books, SOME show up there, others do NOT. And, same with Movies or other Videos. Most do not show up where they should be in the various menus on the iPod.
Does anyone know what the secret is? Do I need to name the Genres 'VIDEO' to get them to show up, or bury them in some specific folder within the iTunes folder somehow, or what? I'd LIKE everything to show up in the proper places when I import items onto my iPod.
Thanks for any assistance...

I watch plenty of videos and "stuff" with my iPhone, just not any content provided via flash, which I couldn't care less about. The only flash player or plugin that is currently available with any cell phone is flash-lite, which is limited. The full flash player or plugin on a Mac or Windows PC is a significant processor hog on both and IMO is a garbage method for providing videos and "stuff".
If you believe it is a "pure rip-off" that Adobe hasn't been able to produce a flash player or plugin that is compatible with the iPhone or a version that meets Apple's approval and this is something that is an important need or want for you, then sell your iPhone quick, fast, and in a hurry, and use the proceeds to purchase a device that meets your most important needs and wants.
Not a chance I would purchase any device that I believe is a rip-off, and I certainly wouldn't keep a device if I didn't do any research whatsoever before purchasing the device after discovering it doesn't meet my most important needs and wants.

  • Ipod shuffle - music and audiobook

I've just bought an ipod shuffle and loaded an audiobook on to it which was fine.  I then loaded some music and whilst it appears in the itunes book folder I can't work out how to listen to it on the ipod shuffle?

I have one of those shuffles too. The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles were designed to work like single playlist. You can either play the items in playlist order, or in random order (shuffle mode).
So, you can do the following. Put all the items you want on the shuffle, including the audiobook. Select the shuffle in the sidebar so that its content listing is shown to the right. Drag the audiobook to the top of the list, so that it is the first item in the playlist order.
Now, when you use your shuffle and want to listen to the audiobook instead of songs, put the shuffle's switch in play-in-order mode. Triple-press the center button. That will take you to the first item of the shuffle's playlist, which will be the audiobook.

  • Manually change where files sort to? Music to tones; music to audiobook; etc.

When I upload a file, itunes is so smart (or thinks it is), it automatically files it somewhere in my itunes. Usually in Music, occasionally in Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Audiobooks, or Tones.
Today, I downloaded a short audiofile that I want to use as a ringtone but itunes took it and put it in Music. I don't want it there.
Also I uploaded my Harry Potter audiobooks and as much as I LOVE having it to listen to at work, I also don't love that all the files loaded into my Music folder and when I put my music on shuffle, I get a good song and then I get a random buzz kill.
Is there a way to manually move these?

In iTunes, right click - get info, select the Options tab and set Media Kind: to what you want.
For the Ringtone, in the Finder, set the file extension to .m4r.

  • IPhone's iPod content (music and videos) no longer visible!

I just upgraded my iTunes to 7.6 and now, after syncing my iPhone, all of the iPod-type data (music, video, podcasts, etc.) is now not visible on the iPhone. The "capacity" bar at the bottom of the iTunes screen show that all of the data (5.76GB) is still there, but now it is all the orange color for "other." My photos are still yellow in the bar and viewable on my iPhone, but I get a "No Music" and "No Videos" screen on the iPhone when I try to view that content. Apparently it is still there, but somehow the "file type" has been changed. My only two recent changes are updating to iTunes 7.6 and upgrading the iPhone software to the current 1.1.3. I've tried restarting the iPhone with the home/powerswitch method and have rebooted the computer several times as well. I was going to try and downgrade iTunes by installing 7.5, but another user noted that 7.5 will not read the updated 7.6 playlist. ANY IDEAS?? (all of this is on 10.4.11, not Leopard.)

    Hey Larry,
I went ahead and did a "restore" and everything was back to normal. It did take a while, though, as it wiped out then re-copied over 7Gigs of data to the phone. It was a hassle, but all is OK. I'm still concerned, though. I also spoke with a Genius at the Apple store who had never seen this, and thought it was a problem with the "file type" in iTunes, but i checked and movies were still "movie" filetype. He suggested MANUALLY checking/adjusting every file, but that is rediculous and there were hundreds of songs and videos!! Anywho, on my iPhone the date outside of the iPod items (music, videos, podcasts, etc.) was not effected, and all is back to normal after a lengthy "restore." Still looking for a "why" on this one...

  • Sync / iPod Summary problem. (Video / Pictures etc)

    Hello.
I've got a bit of a weird problem going on. I've never had an iPod before nor have I used iTunes so I might be doing something completely wrong. Anyway on to my problem:
When syncing movies/videos to my iPod it doesn't work then in the summary "Sync movies to iPod" isn't ticked nor is the picture one or any other apart from music. So I tick them and then click apply then it syncs and then when it finished it says "Cannot find "Dannys Ipod" The required disk space cannot be found". I've got enough space I'm sure of that and my iPod is connected correctly- otherwise the summary screen wouldn't show. Like I said my iPod and iTunes is new and I have restored it once or twice and it wouldn't work. I've also tried to tick "Enable disk use" and apply and still- comes up with the same error message.
Any help on this would be appreciated, if you've had this problem how did you fix it etc.

Well, I don't have an iPod video....maybe try the iPod forums, instead of iTunes for Windows?
And I am totally not sure this will work, but try assigning your iPod a specific drive letter such as "W" or something not already used, and far away in the alphabet from any other drive letters that are being used.
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Transfering Audiobooks to ipod video

Hello. Can some one please tell me how to transfer audiobooks that i have on my computer to my ipod video please, i dont see an audiobook folder in itunes ( on the left panel) and i dont see any drop downs to put the files into the right place on the ipod .....thanks for any help
    Sager Notebook Windows XP

In iTunes, select "Add File to Library". In the Add File dialog, navigate to the location of your audiobook content on your hard drive, select the file you want to add, then click "Open".
This adds the file to your iTunes library, but you may have to edit file details to get audiobooks to show up where you want them in iTunes and on the iPod. After a given audiobook file has been added in iTunes, right-click on it and select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu. On the "Info" tab, enter "Audiobook" for genre, author name for "Artist", whatever title you'd like to appear in iTunes / on your iPod, and whatever other info you'd like. After you sync your iPod, your audiobook files can be easily accessed on the iPod by selecting Music - Genre - Audiobook from the menu. Creating a playlist of audiobooks will also make them easy to find in iTunes.

  • Ipod Video Music Setting 'Search' Help!

Well, I bought a Black iPod Video and the white one attracted me more so I went and got an exchange. I noticed that the white iPod I now have does not include the 'Search' option under Music it ends at audiobooks. I dont know if I got an older model somehow but is there anyway I can update it and get it back, i thought that was a pretty cool feature.
btw i bought it at walmart

    Try this:
    From the iPod main menu:
Settings --> Main Menu --> under Music, scroll down until you see "Search". Is it off or on?
On my iPod, turning Search on and off this way adds or removes a search feature in the MAIN menu, not as a feature under the Music menu, even though the above procedure looks like it would add it under the Music menu. My Music menu always has the search feature. My Main menu may or may not have a search feature, depending on how Search is set as above, on or off.

  • How can I transfer voice memos from my iPhone 4 without syncing and having all music/video/audiobook content deleted from my phone?

I would like to be able to transfer several very long voice memos from my iPhone 4 to my PC.  They are too long to email to myself. I manage music manually, so the phone doesn't sync automatically.  I have also not checked off "include voice memos" in my music sync preferences because of a warning that pops up which suggests that I will lose all the music, video & audiobook content on my phone and that it will be replaced with all iTunes content. (Several of the audiobooks on my phone were transferred in directly from my library system's audiobook service & I will lose them permanently if they are wiped off the phone.) Is there a way around this? I am able to transfer photographs directly to my computer because my PC recognizes the iPhone as an external disk and I was able to locate the photo folder, but I have no idea of where to look for the voice memo folder in order to transfer them in the same manner.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If the old laptop was a mac also, then use your Time Machine backup to restore you user settings and files.

  • Can I get music off of a broken iPod Video, 30GB?

This isn't detrimental, I have an iPhone as well as an iPod touch and have all the music I need. But I found my broken iPod video today, and it hasn't worked for a few years. I dropped it about three and a half years ago, cracked the screen, and ever since it's been fudged up. If I plug it in, it'll try and start up, then shut itself down, so it's *trying* to work.
I'm simply curious to see what music was on there, so it's not a big deal if it's not possible. I know I had over three thousand songs on there, and they're all bound to be terrible, but it's fun and also horrifying to look back on my previous taste in music.
If anybody has any solutions, or ideas, let me know, but like I said, not in a panic, not taking it to be repaired or anything.
I'm not sure if it's called the iPod classic, by the way, but this is the iPod I'm talking about. http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/ipod-2-091206.jpg
I don't think the iPod's coming up on my computer. I just plugged it in, and this is my old crappy computer since my PC decided to crap out, but there's no sign of it being recognized so I'm assuming it's probably a lost cause, but oh well.

The only suggestion I have is to try and force the iPod into Disk Mode.

Is it possible to get itunes music videos to play or do I need to get new ipod.   It works on my iPad and iPhone, but not through iPod Classic.

Don't worry about that. iPod stuck in recovery mode always happens when you update the iOS on your iPod. There are two ways to solve it.

    Hi ocio,
First of all, you should always do a backup of your computer before doing an upgrade - always.
Things can go wrong, and if they do, you will be out of luck without a backup.
Upgrading should not affect your music, videos, documents, files in general. But don't take any chances in case things go awry....back it all up first!

Go to Help-->About iTunes on your computer. Make sure
    it is iTunes 7.0.2
If it is, you may want to restore your iPod and then
put all the content on it again. Something may have
    become corrupt...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
All content on the iPod will be deleted, although the
content on your computer in iTunes should not be.
