IPone doesn't recognize AirPort Extreme

I recently updated my apartment with the Airport Extreme, and the set up process went swimmingly. Unfortunately, my iPhone does not pick up the wifi for some reason (same goes for my roomate with an iPhone as well.) It's quite possible I missed something minute in the set up, but I haven't been able to find any fault at first pass, I suppose I just blindly assumed the phone would recognize all networks in range.

Try shortening the key. I noticed that when I used the original WPA2 key it was to long for the iPhone to get recognized by the AEBS. After decreasing the key length I was then able to connect to the AEBS.

    You don't need to download drivers to the Airport Extreme Base Station.
    However, you may have to download and install a printer driver on your Mac - if Epson's web site has a newer version than the one built into OS X (which is version 3.09).
    You could also try using the alternate "Stylus Photo R340 - Gutenprint" driver built into MacOS 10.5.

    I have a Macbook Pro, a Windows XP PC, an Airport Extreme and an HP Printer hooked up via USB to the Airport. My XP system and My Macbook work fine. I have Windows 7 installed via bootcamp on the MacBok. It connects to the wireless network perfectly on the Windows 7 side but when I run the Airport Utility it is "unable to find any apple wireless devices." I want to set up the Windows 7 side to print and need to discover this network printer but since it won't even recognize the Airport device, I don't know how to proceed. Anyone know how to solve this problem? I have uninstalled and reinstalled software to no avail.

    I have the exact same issue with a new airport extreme. One additional bit of info for me is that the windows computer does see the wireless network and is able to get online. It just doesn't find the airport in the airport utility app. Also, according to the guidebook I am supposed to install "Bonjour" on Windows computers. Can't find any reference to Bonjour on the installation disc that came with the Airport Extreme.

    i bought an Airport Extreme to replace a Linksys router that works but with a weak range.
    I disconnected my Linksys router and plugged the cables into the Airport Extreme as per the instructions (btw, i don’t know why Apple has to use the silly little icons instead of labeling the WAN connection ‘Internet,’ but whatever.) I plugged in the power. The Link light for the connection came on.
    The Airport Extreme status light glowed amber.
    I ran the Airport utility on an iPad. It says it doesn’t see any Airport Extreme.
    The Airport Extreme started flashing amber.
    I read the troubleshooting instructions. I powered down the cable modem. I pushed the reset button on the Airport Extreme. I unplugged everything, plugged it in again. I tried the Airport utility on an iPhone. It said it didn't see any Airport Extreme. I checked the Airport utility on the iPad. Still didn't see anything.
    I plugged my Linksys router back in and everything works.
    Huh?

    Power off the cable modem for 5-10 minutes to allow it to reset. It will not recognize the AirPort until it resets correctly.
    Connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort
    Please go back to the home screen on the iPad
    Tap Settings (gear icon)
    Tap WiFi
    Just under the heading of Setup a New AirPort Base Station, a listing of AirPort Extreme should appear.
    Does it? If yes,
    Tap on AirPort Extreme to start the setup "wizard" and follow the prompts.

  • Mini doesn't recognize airport

    My mini doesn't recognize the airport card. I have restarted my rounter, modem and my mac but no luck. All software on my Mini is up to date and other computers are connected to the network. The network tab in System Preferences doesn't give me an option to connect to airport.

    In this thread, your first post suggests you are running MacOS 10.4.8, but the second that you have 10.4.10. If you are running the latter, did the Airport work before and since stop? Perhaps around the time of the update?
    Do you see any sign of Airport, such as the empty fan in the menu bar?
    In the network preferences (and I apologize, I don't presently have a Mac running Tiger to test this on), when you click to add an interface and select Airport, does it then show the hardware to be present?
    Some time ago I was tracking a series of posts on www.macfixit.com which related to Airport issues in 10.4.10. It was suggested that if the Airport card was not recognized, to try an SMC reset (Intel Systems) or PMU Reset (PPC minis) Other issues could occasionally be resolved by removal of AppleAirport.kext, AppleAirport2.kext and AppleAiport3.kext files from the >System>Library>Extensions folder, but you would need a source of rreplacements, either from your existing MacOS install disk or the latest Airport Updater downloaded from Apple. In either case you'd need a utility called Pacifist to extract just those files. Sadly I don't have a Tiger system on hand to test that out at present.
    One troubleshooting step you might try is to create a new user account on the system and see if that account can 'see' the Airport card, thus indicating an issue at the user rather than systemwide level.
    It is a good sign however that the Airport hardware is seen by the profiler. Basically that means it's failure in the system is software.

    I have a new mac mini, leopard, 1.8G c2duo, and have finally resolved some display issues. Now it doesn't recognize my airport card. Ideas?

    If the airport card doesn't appear in the System Profiler (select 'About this Mac' in the Apple menu, then click the 'more info' button, then click 'Airport Card' down the left hand side) then the mini likely has a hardware problem and would be in need of repair/replacement. On the other hand, if the Airport Card shows up there, the system clearly can see the card, but it then means there is likely a problem with MacOS or a setting - in which case if you could describe the symptom (ie, where it is you are not seeing the card) then it may be possible to resolve.

  • IMac Won't Recognize Airport Extreme

    I purchased an Airport Extreme from the local Apple store and set it up according to directions, but my iMac doesn't see it.
    I believe that there is a problem with my Airport card inside my Mac.
    What I have tried to fix this:
    First thing I did was get the latest version of Airport Utility. (I now have 5.5.2)
    Next I plugged the ethernet cable directly from my Airport Extreme into my iMac.
    Airport Utility immediately recognized the base station and I was able to configure it with a device ID and password.
    After plugging the base station back into my DSL router, Airport Utility still couldn't find it. (The Extreme is about two feet from the computer with a clear line of sight.)
    Both my iPad and iPhone "see" the Airport Extreme and are accessing the internet perfectly using it.
    My next attempt to fix things was to reload OS X into my iMac. This and the updates took a couple of hours, but I got the same results.
    I'm pretty sure there is an actual WiFi card in my computer. This is what my System Profiler says under Airport:

    In the future if you have to use an Ethernet cable to configure your AirPort Extreme, it would be better to use a second cable to connect your Mac to one of the Extreme's LAN ports. Then the configuration could be completed using the final connections.
    It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until it works again:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (2), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
    They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.

  • Computer won't recognize Airport Extreme Card

    Okay, I need a little help. I bought an Airport Extreme card for my eMac today, which is what my manual told me I'd need to connect to a wireless Internet connection.
    I followed the instructions to install it exactly, but the computer won't recognize that it's there. It still says "no information available" when I go look at the Airport card settings.
    I'm not sure if it's a fault of mine, the card's, or the computer's. When I insert the card, should it snap into place? Should it slide out easily? How can I tell if it's in properly?
    If anybody can help out, it'd make my year. I am dying to get this high-speed Internet set up. Thanks.

    Use the information in KB 86325, eMac: How to locate the serial number and identify your model to identify which type of eMac you have.
    If you have one of these eMacs
    eMac (ATI Graphics)
    eMac (USB 2.0)
    eMac (2005)
    you require the AirPort Extreme card.
    Any other eMac requires the original AirPort card.
    If you are using the correct card and it is not being recognized, one or more of the following must be correct.
    The card isn't installed correctly.
    The card is defective.
    The eMac's motherboard is defective and not recognizing the card.

    Running OS 10.8.5. Message "This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Go to AirPort Service...for more info" pops up.   • Mac Mini won't recognize Airport Extreme

    I just purchased an airport extreme and am trying to hook up my mac mini via an ethernet cable to the airport extreme (plan to add a new macbook w/ wireless). Would like to share a dial-up connection between the mini and the yet to be purchased macbook (I know dial up is lame but I can't yet get DSL in my area). I plugged an ethernet cable from my mac mini into the <--> on the airport extreme and run the AIRPORT SETUP ASSISTANT. The assistant recognizes that I do not have a aiport card installed in my mini and says "you will only be able to configure the aiport base stations using ethernet". I think this is okay since I am hooking up the mini via an ethernet cable. When I continue the ASSISTANT says "No new airport networks were found". Am I able to hook up my mini this way? Any help would be very appreciated. I talked to APPLE technical phone support and they suggested that I take my mini and new extreme into an apple store to be looked at???

    Thanks !! Using your answer I determined that my ethernet port was not enabled. I was able to see the AP and configure it. Unfortunately, although I was able to connect to AOL via the AP built in modem I can not launch any web sites via the safari browser or the built in AOL browser. Was on the phone with AOL for an hour and they basically threw in the towel because I was able to connect to AOL. I went to the Apple store in Tucson AZ. and was very dissappointed with the "genius" bar. The first guy looked really confused when I explained the problem and said I should proabably wait for another "apple genius" (he did hook up my mac mini though - and ran some disk checks which seemed like a waste of time). The other "mac genius" came over and I kid you not said "well - good luck". He did not even attempt to help me. I was absolutely floored. He walked away with another customer. I started to pack my stuff up and walk out of the store when a young kid (another "mac genius" came over and asked if he could help). He explained that there are known issues with the airport express and AOL (even though APPLE advertises AOL compatibility). He suggested that I update the firmware - even though the unit is brand new.
    So here I am. Trying to use the APPLE products that everyone seems to rave about. The technical support at the APPLE store was extremely poor. I migrated from WINTEL machines to my first mac (the mini) and this is not what I expected to encounter.

  • Why doesn't my Airport Extreme Work with my powerline adapter

    I recently moved rooms and wanted to move my airport extreme with me. My previous setup involved my ISP DSL modem (virgin media) connected directly to the airport extreme, this worked fine and had no wifi issues, so i bought a set if D-link powerline adapters, which when connected to the modem in one room & connecting via ethernet in the other room provides excellent speeds, but when I plug the ethernet cable into the airport I get an amber flashing light and  tells me theres no internet connection & that theres no DNS servers. I manually input them but that doesn't seem to fix it. Someone said setting it to bridge may solve this issue but I don't have a clue how i'd do that on Mountaun Lion.

    I have a Power Mac G4 with Airport Extreme installed correctly (I looked at the official Apple Guide to installing it) and it doesn't show up. I have Airport Driver Software version 3.3 Installed. I don't know how to fix this..

    What model Airport Extreme are you talking about??
    The wireless card in the G4 is probably too old to support WPA2 security.. might even be too old to support WPA security.
    So you should try using no security at all and see if that works.. if so and WPA does not work.. then the wireless is simply too old.. it needs WEP security but the WEP code is now wide open and it is trivial for people to hack so forget about it.
    If you want to connect a G4 to a modern wireless network.. use a wireless bridge to ethernet.. and plug the G4 via cabled connection only.

  • G5 can't recognize Airport Extreme

    Hope someone can help. I tried to install an Airport Express to my existing Airport Extreme network so I could play music through powered speakers in another part of my home. I screwed up the installation, and while trying to backtrack, my Airport Extreme network was deleted inadvertently. Now there is no network listed at Internet Connect. Neither Airport Set-up or Airport Admin Utility sees the base station so I can set up a new network and start over. When using Airport Set-up, I receive the error message: No new Airport networks were found." Any ideas will be appreciated. Nothing seems able to "see" the base station. I've reset the AP Extreme with the reset button and by unplugging its power - neither help. All cables are in place, the unit is in the same room.

    Determned that the base station had "died" and replaced it with a new one; everything is working fine now. Not sure what caused the demise of the base station though.

  • Apple TV doesn't see Airport Extreme

    I have a Time Capsule as my base station and an Airport Extreme extending my network. The AE is right next to my Apple TV but the ATV does not see it. The ATV is connected to my network but it's reaching all the way back to my Time Capsule and thus the signal is somewhat weak. I've tested the AE with both of my laptops and they pick up the AE just fine. How can I get my ATV to connect to my network via the nearby AE and not the Time Capsule?

    Winston, yeah - it's the only router. The Apple TV and the xbox are both about a feet away from the Airport Extreme.
    I have tried to enter the SSID manually but neither the xbox or the Apple TV can find it.
    My gaming rig, a XP pro machine, can though as can my iphone. It's strange, the airport extreme is all default settings - no funny business there. I just wonder if maybe apple tv and the xbox wireless device is not compatible with the n spectrum of Airport Extreme.. but it should be compatible with both g and b since teh A Extreme supports those too.
    I literally took the stuff out of their boxes and plugged in the cable modem ethernet cable into the airport extreme. I set up the SSID and psw on the airport extreme and then my PC and my iphone found the network but not the apple tv nor the xbox. AND they are about a feet from the airport extreme.
    I'm using cables now.. but I can't accept that apple tv can't connect to airport extreme.
