IPos shuffle stops randomly

My kids bought me a brand new iPod shuffle for mothers day 2 weeks ago. Every time I use it, it works for about 5-6 songs and then just stops. I have checked the voiceover and it is fully charged. There are no songs on the play list that have not been purchased through iTunes (ie no "rogue" songs :-)). I have gone through the process of restoring the iPod, but that didnt work either.
I do long distance running and this is driving me crazy, as I simply cant run for 2 hrs with no music!!!!
Can anyone help with a potential solution?

I had this problem for the last couple ot months and wasn't able to fix it on my own. I went to the Apple store and described the problem to the Genius Bar, and they exchanged the ipod for a new one. So far it seems to be working fine.
It may be worth mentioning that the previous ipod had the software version 1.0.2 installed, and the newer one has 1.0.1. Since it working fine, I'm holding off on updating right now.

My shuffle will randomly stop. I have checked on songs, removed them, refilled my shuffle, tried all trouble shooting and it still just stops. Any ideas on how to correct this?

Why does my iPod Shuffle stop working after a few songs?

I had my iPod Shuffle for about a month now and it's already causing me trouble.
I would play a couple of songs, but when I go to change it, it stops working. I turn it off and on again only to have it take me back to where I started off at (e.g. Let's say I have 100 songs, I start at 50 and I get to 55 before it shuts off. When I turn it back on, it starts at 50 all over again). This process would happen over and over again with seemingly no end.
So my question is, why does my iPod Shuffle stop working after a few songs and how can I fix it?
I already tried using the iTunes troubleshooting guide, but nothing worked.

4th Generation
I only use it at the gym or when I'm running
I've only used the Apple products that came with it so far
(e.g. charger, headphones, etc.)
881 MB are still left
Music stops randomly, no common number or pattern

I had the same problem, I purchased a new ipod shuffle, followed the instructions but it would stop after a few songs and I would have to shut it off, wait and turn it back on and it would go back to the same song and then once again, after a few songs it would shut off. I returned the ipod and got another one, same thing happened. This is how I resolved the issue.
1. open itunes, make sure its up to date, then connect your shuffle to your pc
2.on the left of the itunes window, select your ipod, then at the top select music then check the sync box and select "selected playlists"
3.then go back and click on your ipod on the left, a message will appear just select apply
all of your music should be emptied from your ipod.
4.delete all of your playlists on the left, this will not delete anything from your library. Delete the "purchased" playlist under itunes store on the left as well, once again this will not delete anything from your library
5.There should be an arrow just in front of your ipod, click on this arrow and you should see your music file for the ipod appear, this should be the only file that you see, everything else should be deleted.
6. go to your music library and check only the songs that you want to load into your ipod. Double click on each song to make sure that they all play.
If you find a song that does not play you should be asked to authorize it, don't waste your time that did not solve the issue for me, instead cancel to authorize the song and then delete the song and move it to recycle bin. Once the song is deleted a cloud should appear, click on the cloud and download the song again, when done, make sure the song plays and that it is checked.
7.After you have made sure that all of the songs play and are checked, click on your ipod once more, located to the left, check the box "sync only checked songs" then from the top select music. In the music window select "sync music' and then select "entire music Library"
8. Go back to the left and click on the arrow in front of your ipod, you should see the music file, click on the music file and you should see all of your music being loaded to your ipod.
9. When all of the music is done loading, eject your ipod by clicking on the arrow located after the battery symbol where your ipod appears on the left
10. Turn on your ipod and scroll through your songs to make sure that the problem is resolved.
Not sure if all of this was necessary but it worked for me.

My Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds, i can skip to the next song but it happens again for every song..
the thing is its random, sometimes 5secs or 10 secs or at the most a whole minute
i have updated, restored, reinstalled an all that but i really dont want to send it back as im in afghanistan and would be weeks before i see it again an i use eveyday!! for running.. i thought maybe sweat had got inside it, its not the headphones i have already tried swapping them.
please help out a soldier in need?

mine is doing the same thing; I have updated it, and restored the factory settings, and it still isn't working. I use mine for running as well; I think it has something to do with the sweat. Hopefully someone posts with a fix.

Audiobook on Ipos shuffle won't bookmark when turning off

Can someone tell me how to make sure that when i turn off my shuffle while listening to audio book , it will restart wher i left it when i turn it back on ? It does not always restart where i stopped...mostly overnight situation...

be sure to download in format 3 not 4. Also, try
turning OFF your Shuffle while it is still blinking

Roger, spoke with Audible tech support and they confirm what you say. However, they are not certain what the issue is except to say that it is Apple's problem (for now.) I have over 100 audiobooks and have been using the Shuffle successfully all during 2005 using format 4. The format issue has only recently developed and I suspect that Audible has some part of the problem. The reason is that I have no problem with older format 4 audiobooks; only recent downloads. Then again only recently has the Shuffle been updated to OS version 1.3.
To tell the truth I don't notice any difference between format 3 and 4, except that format 3 is half the file size of format 4. So, from now on I'm just going to download format 3 and save the hard drive space.
As for book marks. I've found that if you hit pause once and wait for the flashing green light to stop, then hold down the pause button until the amber light goes out that the book will resume where left off. Also, power off the unit because the standby mode (according to what I've read from Apple) will diminish the power suppley in about 32 hours. (Could this be the reason some Shuffle user report that their Shuffle stops half-way through an audiobook?) This book marking technique works for format 3 & 4 audiobooks.
This is somewhat OT, but useful info for those who use the shuffle primarily for audiobooks. It's a pain that the slider switch to turn on the Shuffle needs to be in the mid position to play the audio books in a linear fashion. What I've done is trim a sliver off the edge of a credit card and position it so the slider is prevented from sliding all the way down into the random play position. A small strip of scotch tape holds it into position.

It just says not connected, and as soon as it bails to menu, it connects again and will play for another minute before doing the same thing all over again.

Access Connections main service stops randomly

Hi all,
I have a T60 at work with the latest version of Access Connections. Over the last few weeks, my Access Connections will randomly show that it disconnects in my system tray. However, I am still connected to my company's network. Our tech group came out and said that they are seeing instances of the Access Connection Main service just stopping randomly. When I go into Services, I can verify that it has stopped. This happens anywhere from 20-60 mins after logging onto our network. It also only happens when I am docked to my docking station, not when I am wireless. If I have a tech remote into my machine and restart the service, it starts up just fine again.
Any thoughts as to what might be causing the service to stop like this? It doesn't present a problem if I stay docked...but if I undock and try to go wireless, it doesn't do the auto switching because it's frozen...so I always have to reboot.

in this situation make following:
- go to services and open Properties of both AC Services and in the Recovery tab set all 3 options to "Restart the Service"
- In case this should not change the situation, then go to "Log On" tab and select "This account" and insert your name and password.
In this situation would be also good to check the Event log if there is any notice, why the Service stopped working.
Any info is appreciated.

WAP4410N stops randomly responding

We have a situation with 20 4410N's They are connected through a 2960 switch. They runned for about a year with no problems. We use the WiFi system with 10 cisco wireless ip phones, several workstations (5-10) and a few mobile devices.
Three weeks ago we took 10-15 iPads in commission (almost equally divided over the AP's), since then the trouble started. Several accesspoints stop randomly responding a few times a, day. We updated to the latest firmware (2.0.4.2), but that did not solve the problems.
Were using 3 SSID's WPA2 encryption and fixed IP's for the AP's. If there is anything more you need to know please contact me. This is a urgent problem for us! If we can't get a hold on this we have to replace all the AP's by other ones.

On January 25th Cisco released version 2.0.6.1. I have upgraded several units to this firmware and it has resolved the random not able to connect issue.
Try upgrading to that version, it is availble here:

If you still have the issue after upgrading, do a factory reset and manually reconfigure the device.
You also mentioned that you were using iPads. Sometimes Apple's devices have trouble with WPA2 AES, so you might want to try switching the encryption to WPA-Personal (TKIP), or WPA Mixed, so that TKIP is also available. Forget the wireless network on the iPad and then try reconnecting.
Usually the upgrade will resolve the issue, if not try the reset. If you are still having trouble after that call the SBSC at 1.866.606.1866 and we can open a support case for you.

Desktop background shuffle stops working

Desktop background shuffle stops working after a while. I had the same problem with 7 preview and now with 7 Ultimate RTM 64bit clean install the same issues and I can't figure it out why. If I use the same set of photos on my Mac shuffle works fine.

Before moving on, could you please help to clarify the following factors?
- Is the issue that the background slide show works, however, the slide show shuffle stops working which displays the background pictures in order?
- Could you please let me know when the issue occurs? Does it occur after using certain software, changing some settings or installing something?
In the meantime, let's try the following suggestions to check the result.
First, if there is any the Desktop or wallpaper software installed, please remove it.
Second, please test the issue in Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
However, if the issue persists, you can also test the issue in a new user account. To do this, please go to Control Panel -> View by: Category -> Add or remove user accounts -> Create a new account. Please see if the issue occurs in this user account. If not, we can transfer the personal files to this account to resolve the issue.

why does the recorder stops randomly during a recording? My previous NOkia 5800 Xpressmusic also had this problem. I never reach the maximum recording time of one hour. My mobile phone is lying next to me and not receiving any calls or messages, with 'silent' profile active.

Shuffle stops periodically, three bell sound, red llights flash, no sound. Apple support person had never heard of the problem. Restoring corrects, but I can't do that when on a run.

Which iPod shuffle model is it? Do you use a Mac or Windows PC? And what version of OS?

:Audigy LS stops random and functions properly after rebootM I am on a P5P800 motherboard with a SB Audigy LS in PCI2, running Windows 7 Beta and using version 5.2..200 of the driver.
I had the same problem on Windows Vista (both before and afer SP):
? at irregular intervals the sound card stops working. Mediamonkey does not detect the SB speakers anymore and none of the other programs can get audio to play.
All it takes is a system-reboot.
I know there is a later version of the driver, at least drivermax tells me there is a newer version. Trying to install this newer version results in the blue screen.
Any ideas where to look for the solution: I am sure that the chipset drivers are fine and I also tried switching the sound-card in from PCI3 to PCI2.
Help is wellcome: it is annoying most to have no sound randomly !

Tried reseting the PRAM and that seemed to take care of the issue, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Also noticed iTunes tracks playing in Spotify had the issue and it seemed to persist after the reset - I ended up unlinking Spotify from iTunes and now it seems to work again in Spotify as well.
