IPP printing delay

Why is it that when I add a printer via ipp, then I try to print it takes anywhere from *1 to 2 minutes for the job to reach the printer*? This is true wether I do this on leopard client or server, and sharing the queue on the server. When I setup a printer via lpd/lpr it prints instantaneously. What is it about ipp? In Tiger server/client I did not experience this problem. I am running Leopard server on a G5 dual 2 GHz with 2 gig RAM. I added the printer on the server via ipp and sharing via ipp. I print from tiger clients. Also when I print from the server itself I get these results. Any thoughts?

Elliott,
How are you connecting the printer to the XServe / Mac OS X server machine? I'm trying to resolve a printer performance issue when printing via IP, and thinking it may be possible to connect it to the XServe via USB and setup the print services on Mac 10.4 server to get around the performance problem. If IP is fine, per your comment, then I'll save a bit of time monkey-ing around with the physical setup i.e., server and printer aren't within 16 feet of each other.

  • IPP printing long delay

I'm running Mac OS X Server 10.5.1 on a mac mini "server" (2GHz, 2 GB RAM).
Everything is working fine so far (AFP, DHCP, DNS, Firewall, NAT, Open Directory).
The only problem is with the Print service :
I've made a queue for our network laser printer (Brother HL-5250DN) on the server and share it through IPP.
I've then installed the printer in my computer (MacBook 10.5.1) and try to print.
It took me about 4-5 minutes, to see the page printed out, the printing box was stuck with the message : Connecting to myserver.local port 631 for a long time.
If i installed directly the printer to my computer it prints instantaneously.
There's a similar topic about this issue but it's now archived :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1226866
Did you get IPP printing working fine with your server ?
    Thx.

I'm a brand new new mac user. Having the same trouble to print on my brother MFC 8460N.
When I try to print it gives me a message of connecting to ip address on port 631 and that the network host is busy.
Thought mac would be easy. Setting this up on my XP was a breeze.

  • Network printing: ipp "printer is busy"/LPD and AppSock prints garbled data

    Dear all,
After months of trying on and off, I give up - I need help please. Since upgrading to Leopard, then Snow Leopard, I cannot print to the office computers. Windows or IPP printer settings produce the "printer is busy - wait 15 seconds" etc error message; LPD and AppSock printer settings enable data to get through, but the output is garbled text (the Adobe Postscript 3 engine on the printer isn't happy, obviously).
We have some new colour copier/printers from FujiXerox (FX Docucentre IV C3370) and some older Canon laser printers (LBP5600), but they don't offer Bonjour connectivity and I am stuck. I can ping them, I have the latest drivers, but nothing works. They worked fine in OS10.4 on this same computer, and XP and Windows 7 of course in BootCamp, but nothing in OS10.5 or 10.6.
I've been all over the web and through the Discussions forums and tried all the suggestions I can see, to no avail. I've tried KeyChains to carry by login ID and password to the machines, and deleting/adding printers through both the System Preferences and the CUPS interface, but I confess I am stuck. I currently copy all of my documents every day to a Dell desktop on my desk just to print them out.
The Canons are run through a Windows server, the FujiXerox has a standalone IP address and no separate print queue at the moment. Running OS10.6.2 on MacBook Pro. I'm happily connected to the network and can access all sharepoints and servers, I just can print to any of the printers - it's infuriating.
Is it a Firewall problem? Sub-net problems? Any ideas most welcome, thanks for looking and sorry if I've missed out anything important.

After digging around I found the Windows drivers are ART EX drivers; obviously that doesn't really come in Macintosh flavour, but FujiXerox do have a non-postscript driver for the machine which I downloaded. This time I could connect via LPD, as FujiXerox recommend, but the print job stalls at the spooling stage; the error message reads that the 'Library/Printers/FujiXerox/Filter/FXPSACMMFilter.bundle/Contents/MacOS/FXPSACM MFilter' failed.
The filter bundle crashing could be related to permissions on the filter or a result of using a 32bit driver with a 64bit application.
    For the permissions, you could opening Terminal and entering the following text;
    sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/Printers/FujiXerox/Filter/
then press ENTER. You will be prompted to enter you user name and password. The user name needs to be an account that has admin rights to the Mac.
Exit Terminal and restart the Mac. Now try printing again.
Regarding the 64bit apps, these are the included SL apps like Preview, TextEdit and Safari. If you attempted to print with one of these apps when you got the error, you could try forcing the app to open in 32bit mode. This is done with the application closed. Locate the app with Finder and do a Get Info on the package (icon). There will be the option to 'Open in 32bit mode'. Select this, close the Get Info window and open the app. Now try a print.
Regarding the Non-Postscript driver, looking at the FJ drivers web site, there are two of these drivers available. Both are showing as version 1.1, but the dates are different. Have a look at the following link to see if you have the one with the most recent date.

Greg's suggestion to use the Generic PCL is also a good alternative. One thing I did find however with the PCL5c is that it does not print in colour, even though it would suggest it does based on the name (the c normally indicates colour).
Did you get the Canon LBP printing?

  • Problems printing to http printer via IPP printing

I have a US Robotics Router with a print server on it that is called
    Printer location: http://192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer
I have tried adding this printer using IP>IPP print setup and have not had any luck. It works from a Windows laptop. The routers directions say to use MacOS X's Internet Printing Protocol using HTTP but looking at the screens it is from an older version of OSX like 10.2. Could someone tell me how to get this to work and maybe what to put into each field?
    Thanks,
    Tess

It's important to understand that the standard port for IPP (& http) is :631 - but U.S.R. decided to use :1631...
You need to use the "Advanced" protocols in Print & Fax prefs. First click +, then
point the cursor on the toolbar (next to any icon) and right click/ ctrl-click > Customize Toolbar - then,
Drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar.
Click Advanced - find and select ipp via http.
Enter URI like you've shown above, except "My_Printer" is the queue name on the USR print server (Oh, actually, maybe they mean that the USR queue name IS My_Printer).

  • Extremely long print delay - Mac

I am experiencing very long print delays or, in one case so far, an error message.
I downloaded Adobe Reader for Macintosh 11.0.02.  I have a Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.2.  The Mac Mini has USB 3.0.  My printer is a Brother MFC-8440 local printer, USB 2.0.  The printer driver has been updated and is current.  The Mac and Brother printer are connected via USB.
I am able to print the PDF files as images but not as documents.  Most of the PDF files I have tried to print as documents have done so but they take FOREVER to print.  For example, a 28 page PDF file might take the better part of an hour to print (that may be an exaggeration but not by much).
But on one PDF file that I tried to print I got some weird error message on the document that printed.  It says,
    ERROR NAME;
             ioerror
    COMMAND;
            flushfile
    OPERAND STACK;
            --filetype--
            --arraytype--
Strangely enough, I can see the document on-screen just fine.  But the only thing that printed on the sheet was that error message.
I am able to print documents from other applications such as Word without any issue.  So this seems to be isolated to printing PDF's.
I previously used Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro for Windows on my old PC (XP Pro, SP3, same printer) until I recently switched to the Mac.  I never had any issues with printing PDF's in a fairly quick manner with the PC.
I am only using Adobe Reader now.
My guess is that with the Mac there is probably some sort of bug in the processing software with the Brother printer.  The Brother printer has an LED that flashes as the data is being downloaded.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Does this mean the "data" goes from MBP wirelessly to AE then "upstream" to the Modem/router then back to AE then USB to printer?
No, the data should travel from the MBP wirelessly to the AEBS, and then, to the printer via the USB port on the AEBS. If; however, a network client is wired to the D-Link, then data would travel from the client to the D-Link, and then, by wire to the AEBS before it goes out the USB link to the printer.

  • Print delay with time capsule - multiple printers

    Hi
I have the print delay problem with my Samsung ML-1510 but have 2 printers connected by USB through the TC. The second printer prints well (Canon i865). Any idea how the requests could be directed to the correct printer using the set up by IP setting so I can set up the ML-1510 to print in a timely fashion? When trying the print via IP setting I can't get any output at all from the Samsung! I have not tried to set up the Canon to print via IP as it prints well via bonjour.

  • IPP printer migration has strange behavior

We have PM from the 6.5 suite. We set up a template to migrate printers, My Documents, and bookmarks. It collects the DNA correctly. when it restores it (Windows 2000 to Windows 2000, or Windows 2000 to Windows XP), everything comes back...EXCEPT we get a shortcut on the desktop that says "Reconnect ipp/..." which points to the ipp printer that was collected. When you click on this shortcut, the Add Printer wiz starts.
IF you REBOOT after the DNA restore without clicking on this shortcut, it will disappear when the customer logs in, but then the Add Printer starts automatically. If you CANCEL the add printer, everything works fine, and the ipp printer is present and correctly installed.
Is this correct behavior? How do I eliminate the shortcut/add printer wizard from starting since it appears it is not needed?
    thanks

  • PrintOpen crashing application when used after PrintSetPrinter for networked IPP print server

This is on Windows Server 2008 using PB 12.1 Build 7298.
I'm using PrintGetPrinters to get the printer name of the networked IPP print server that is setup on the machine and it comes back as:
I then use PrintSetPrinter with that name to change the printer, which works fine.
After calling PrintSetPrinter I call PrintOpen to open a print job, which then crashes the application with a gdi32.dll fault.
If I call PrintOpen( "testing", true ) it works fine, but PrintOpen() or PrintOpen( "testing", false ) crash the app.  This all works fine on a non networked printer on the server, which we've been using for years, but are now trying to switch to a print server.
Does anyone know why PrintOpen would be crashing when not showing the print dialog box?  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric Cole

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply.  It's not a catchable exception, already tried that.  It's one of those faults where you get the microsoft windows yourapplication.exe has stopped working popup and it puts an error in the system application events that you can view in the event viewer.  There isn't much info in the event to go off of either.
I did find another older forum post that seems to be the same issue but with PB 12.5.1 and where mine is crashing his just didn't print.  The thread is here: http://nntp-archive.sybase.com/nntp-archive/action/article/%[email protected]%3E
Since it's only an issue with PrintOpen I'm changing it to datawindow.Print instead, but I have to combine 2 datawindows in the same print job without a print dialog so I'm forced to come up with a workaround in order to accomplish that.  I'm going to hopefully create a composite datawindow with the 2 combined dws so I can get them in 1 print job.  It's just going to take longer than I thought because my datawindows have nested reports so I can't use GetChild to get a reference to them and they are being modified with .Modify.

  • Livecycle pdfg ipp printer windows passthru

I was trying to get the pdfg ipp printer working. I installed it on a workstation by going to http://serverip:port/pdfg-ipp/install. When installing you can choose three option for security: anonymous, automatic windows passthru, entering user account and password. When I try the anonymous or windows passthru option it does not work. Entering a user account and password works. The livecycle server is using LDAP authentication. This is working otherwise the user account and password option would not work either.
We want to use the automatic windows passthru option in the printer port configuration because our printer drivers are preïnstalled on citrix servers. Configurating ports is not allowed for users. Even if users would have the option the users do not have the technical knowledge and understanding to configure it.
Can anyone tell me how to get automatic windows passthru working for the pdfg ipp printer? If it works at all.

    Dieter,
Have you found a way to get the Windows Passthu to work?
    Thanks,
    John
