IPrint migration - drivers in a shared store

Hey all,
Something I'm not seeing in the docs here, trying to save my self a lot of time re associating drivers. I've done one Transfer ID migration of a minor print server from SLES/OES2 to OES11 (32 to 64 bit, can't straight upgrade).
It worked, with lots of caveats and gotchas. The one thing that didn't was the driver store migration. We have a single driver store for our 12 schools, its been a great thing as most of the printer models are shared amongst the schools. With this transfer, i don't want to migrate the driver store drivers, I just want the new print manager to keep the same association to the driver store that isn't part of the migration at all.
This didn't happen, I told it to copy the drivers from the master driver store to a new, temp one I made. Way to scared to tell it to copy from/to the same master driver store if I wasn't sure it was going to do exactly what I wanted it to.
Any ideas on how to make this work nicely? currently re associating drivers on the one I migrated, small location, no biggie. Other places its gonna be a nasty pain.
Thanks
P

  • IPrint migration fails....

I tried to migrate some printers from NetWare 6.0 SP5 server to a OES2 in
    diffrent

I got loads of problems and diffrent error messages. Tried the command line

as well as the X based "Migrate Novell iPrint" from Yast2.
    Someone got problems migrating?

In the production system I have 300 printers with all kinds of drivers. So as a step prior to migration, I'm going to use the reporting tool to dump out all the printers and their drivers and clean it up so that I'm using the same driver for all printers of the same model (something I should do anyway) and then make sure they are installed to the new store prior to migration.
Me and a college (hpux-guy) rewritten the migrationscripts and now it works great! It uploads all drivers from netware-broker to the new oes2 driverstore,
recreates the printers in the new context and assign the same drivers to the
new printers. We solved it that way cuz Novell couldnt help us. (We cased it, and all they did was to reply with a URL to the documentation for creating a printer from iManager) muhahaha.. what a joke!

  • Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)

I recently installed the "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)" update using the Software Update application on 10/19/08. The installation went fine with no errors or apparent problems.
I noticed yesterday that when I adjust the brightness up or down on my display ( I have an original 15" Apple Studio Display) the graphic that used to appear showing the brightness level no longer appears but the brightness does change. Also, I have my Epson USB printer connected to one of the USB ports in the monitor and it no longer appears in my Printer list and now I can not print.
When I go into the System Profiler, click on Hardware Graphics/Display it gives me the information for the Display correctly but at the last line it shows " Display: Status: No display connected". When I click on Hardware USB it just shows a generic description USB Bus with no other information included for the monitor or the printer (printer is attached to USB Hub in the monitor}. When I click on Hardware Printers I get "No information found."
I also used to be able to use the power button on my monitor to turn on the computer and display at the same time but that no longer works.
I have tried Repairing Permissions and also the Pram/NVram reset to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bill

After changing cables, swapping ports, running Applejack AUTO in deep clean mode, booting up with my hard drive that had not been updated with the "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)" and finally the Tiger Retail boot installation DVD, I finally gave up without solving the problem and shut down the computer.
After 2 more cups of coffee, I realized there was 1 thing I totally forgot to do. I remembered that I had not unplugged the computer from the outlet and held the reset button located near the battery on the motherboard.
You guessed it, everything is now working fine.
The only thing I can not figure out is why this happened after running the "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)". Go figure.

Hi, my Mac OS 10.4.11 has a software update on 10-19-2008. It installed the update Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update, since then, my sharing panel stopped working, I can`t set any option of Services tab and my Firewall tab does not open, it is gray and I can`t click on it. Just Internet tab work now. How can I fix that? Someone had this same problem?

  • Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update version 1.1

I have an original Air and older Intel iMac and Remote Install utility version 1.0
I see there is a new Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update version 1.1
The details of this update states:
    Products Affected
MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008), MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)
So I am concerned about whether I should proceed to install this on my iMac to update the Remote Install capability since none of my hardware is specifically mentioned.

Switch900, The basic process works very well. The basic instructions are at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1131
I tested since I did the recent update (even though my version is still showing version 1.0) and it is working properly. However someone tipped me off to go to:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/migrationanddvdcdsharingupdate.html
to get the update again (without getting it via Software Update) and in his case, that gave him version 1.1 I have yet to do that and will need to test again once I have done that.
But basically you install this software on your MAC or PC that has a DVD drive, load a disc containing software that you want to install on your Air, in that other MAC or PC and then get to it from the Air and install the software over your local network.

  • How to define Migration Definition File in Shared Services Console

    Hi expert,
I have seen the document and it says that user can define Migration Definition File in Shared Services Console. How to do it? Can you show me the steps? Thanks.
    Best Regards
    Rick

    Hi Rick,
I think what you are referring to is the "Save Migration Definition" button in LCM within the Shared Services web.
Basically, any thing that you do within Shared Services LCM utility (GUI) can be saved to .xml file for reusing the migration properties another time.

You can't share/play a music CD using Remote Disk. It's a limitation that Apple built in.
"MacBook Air and Mac mini do not support playing DVD movies or audio CD media with Remote Disc."
Remote Disk is limited to data transfers.
You will have to use the MBA external superdrive, or another compatible external DVD device hooked directly to the Macbook Air.
Otherwise, you will need to rip the CD's contents using your PC and transfer the music as data files.

  • Iprint migration question

We had to back out of a migration last week because of issues with edir version on Netware. I've updated that and TSA, but another question just came up. I'm migrating iPrint from a cluster, plus doing transfer ID. If I choose cluster resource on the source server in miggui, I only get the consolidate option. Does that mean I need to first run a consolidation job just for iprint and then go back and run the transfer ID? Or will the consolidation screw up a transfer ID?

$(UService migrations based on cluster resources and Transfer ID are separated in Migration Tools (miggui). You need to execute Cluster based iPrint migration in one project and Transfer ID migration in another project.
Perform all service consolidation migrations and make sure they are all completed/synced and working before attempting Transfer ID.

  • IPrint Migration - Printers and Clients Not on Welcome Page

We just finished a test migration of one of our iPrint servers from Netware 6.5SP8 to OES 11SP1. Everything went well, the driver store and manager are up and working, all the printers migrated, and all the drivers seem to be there. The one annoying issue is that the client download links and the install printers links did not get added to the Client Software tab on the default OES home page. I restarted all the services, but they still do not show up. If I type in the client download link manually, I can download it. I can also access the printers page directly at server/ipp. What do I need to do to get those links to appear?
    Thanks,
    Jason

Being in the welcome page, client software tab, if you check the source
of the html page or the javascript on the page, you should see a
    http://servername/welcome/links/iprint.js.
If not, the migration did not copied the file. If it is, check it is the
one from oes11 and not from netware. Installing latest oes11sp1 iprint
modules should restore the good iprint.js.

  • IPrint migration oes11 to oes11sp2

This summer I have to replace server hardware -- current one is sles11sp1/oes11. I will install sles11sp3/oes11sp2 this summer on a new temp server for the migration and id transfer. Reading up on the migration tool. Wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of in migrating the iPrint environment. The printers are not setup in dns (as we don't use Novell for our DNS server).
    Thanks

Well, if you're going on new hardware, you MAY be able to get away with a few things.
Choices (off the top of my head):
    1) Use the Consolidation part of the miggui. Downsides to that are that you have to create new driver store/manager and if you're not using DNS, then you'll have some interesting issues (ie, possibly reinstalling on all your pc's). But just because you don't have Novell as your DNS server doesn't mean you can't use DNS names for iPrint. We use Sun Solaris for DNS and we just have our Unix guys adjust/add the DNS entries as necessary and it works fine.
    2) IF you're going to use the ID Transfer so that the new server is going to have the same name/IP, then you can probably do this (I only know this because we just had a server blow up):
    https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3006957
    We chose option #1, BUT:
    Instead of restoring/copying just the:
    /var/opt/novell/iprint/[PSM].[OU].[O].psm/
    We did the:
    /var/opt/novell/iprint
directory as that also gets the printer driver profiles and driverstore
IF you choose the above option, I'd suggest that when you install your NEW OES server do NOT configure iPrint (install yes, don't configure it). Then after the ID transfer, copy/restore the configuration files and I THINK you'll be good to go.
    3) some other option I'm not aware of.

  • IPrint migration - Broker and Manager compatibility?

I didn't see this in the docs, but let's say I have one iPrint broker and 2 iPrint managers on 3 diff. servers in NetWare.
I wish to migrate to OES2 SP2 Linux, but do not wish to migrate ALL the iPrint broker/managers on one night
Can I just migrate the MANAGER first? Or must I migrate the BROKER first?
    In other words:
Can an OES2 SP2 Manager "talk/work" with a NetWare iPrint Broker?

I don't think it can, it will need a driver store. That being said I have never tried. I'm guessing it will fail to load as the OES2 iprint manager should be configured to only connect driver store objects.

  • No users are being migrated to the Unified Contact Store (UCS) for Lync 2013 - Exchange 2013

I'm having difficulty getting the unified contact store to work on a migrated Lync/Exchange environment. Both servers have been upgraded to 2013 CU2, and almost everything appears to be working properly...except UCS.
By default the global CsUserServicesPolicy has UcsAllowed set to True. In that mode, none of the Lync users were being migrated to UCS, so I set the global policy to False and created a new Policy called "AllowUCS" and set UcsAllowed to True. I then
assigned that policy to myself and a couple other test accounts. Still, my contacts are not being migrated to the UCS after logging in with Lync 2013.
Other Lync/Exchange integration features are working properly. I have set up OAuth, and it tests successfully, and Lync integration with OWA is working successfully, so I know at least some communication is happening properly between the servers.
Here is what I'm getting when I run some diagnostics from the Lync server:

    Hi,
Please make sure the user has been provisioned with an Exchange 2013 mailbox and has signed into the mailbox at least once.
If the user logs in with a Lync 2010 or earlier client, or if the user is not connected to an Exchange 2013 server, the user services policy is ignored and the user's contacts remain in Lync Server.
Please also check the registry key on the client computer:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\<SIP URL>\UCS
If the user's contacts are stored in Exchange 2013, this key contains a value of InUCSMode with a value of 2165.

  • Drivers and for shared HP Officejet pro K850

I'm trying to set up a connection to a HP Officejet pro K850 printer, with the appropriate drivers. The printer is shared from a PC across a wireless network that needs a username and password.
I've connected to the printer OK and can do a basic print but I wanted to install the correct drivers on the Mac. I couldn't find them listed in the Printer utility and tried to do an install of the latest 10.4 driver from HP but that didn't seem to work. The installation says its successful, then a window pops up saying where is the printer? I select wireless network and nothing happens.
    My questions are:
Where did the driver install and where can I look for it in the system to confirm its there?
Do I need to complete the last step in the HP wizard or should it just work if I was successful with a direct connection previously?
I'm expecting to see HP Officjet K850 when I go to select a driver to the printer in the Utility or other OS X printer dialogs.
    Thanks

HP has provided a Carbon driver, where they have specified/restricted what comm protocol(s) it uses. Yours is USB-only. To use the comm protocols provided in OS X by the CUPS system, you need a CUPS driver. You'll need to install a third-party driver from:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
It'll be either Gutenprint or hpijs + ESP ghostscript.
Drivers (PPDs plus plug-ins) go in HD/Library/Printers.

  • How to install additional drivers for a shared photosmart c6180?

Hi, i am running windows 7 x64 and i have shared a photosmart c6180 on the pc.  I need to add additional 32bit drivers so that pc's that run xp 32 bit can print to the shared printer (i cannot connect these other pc's directly to the printer via network).  any way, under the sharing tab in printer properties, i can click on 'additional drivers' and choose x86, but then it asks for a driver location.  what location do i specify?  i've already tried c:\windows and c:\windows\system32, but it does not pick up any drivers at those locations.  i've also downloaded all of the latest drivers from the hp site, but when i run the executable and specify their extracted locations, for example, c:\users\user1\appdata\temp\7Z139A\, it does not see any drivers there either.
    any help is greatly appreciated!
    thanks!
    -s.

You wont be able to use exiting Win XP drivers on windows 7. You need to get new drivers for Windows 7, and install them as per your convenience, ie manually or automate it via script GP
