IPrint migration fails....

I tried to migrate some printers from NetWare 6.0 SP5 server to a OES2 in
diffrent
O's and OU's but within the same TREE.
I got loads of problems and diffrent error messages. Tried the command line
util "iprintmig"
as well as the X based "Migrate Novell iPrint" from Yast2.
Someone got problems migrating?

In the production system I have 300 printers with all kinds of drivers. So as a step prior to migration, I'm going to use the reporting tool to dump out all the printers and their drivers and clean it up so that I'm using the same driver for all printers of the same model (something I should do anyway) and then make sure they are installed to the new store prior to migration.
Me and a college (hpux-guy) rewritten the migrationscripts and now it works great! It uploads all drivers from netware-broker to the new oes2 driverstore,
recreates the printers in the new context and assign the same drivers to the
new printers. We solved it that way cuz Novell couldnt help us. (We cased it, and all they did was to reply with a URL to the documentation for creating a printer from iManager) muhahaha.. what a joke!

  • Server 2012 r2 live migration fails with hardware error

Hello all, we just upgraded one of our hyper v hosts from server 2012 to server 2012 r2; previously we had live replication setup between it and another box on the network which was also running server 2012. After installing server 2012 r2 when a live migration
is attempted we get the message:
"The virtual machine cannot be moved to the destination computer. The hardware on the destination computer is not compatible with the hardware requirements of this virtual machine. Virtual machine migration failed at migration source."
The servers in question are both dell, currently we have a poweredge r910 running server 2012 and a poweredge r900 running server 2012 r2. The section under processor for "migrate to a physical computer using a different processor" is already checked
and this same vm was successfully being live replicated before the upgrade to server 2012 r2. What would have changed around hardware requirements?
We are migrating from server 2012 on the poweredge r910 to server 2012 r2 on the poweredge r900. Also When I say this was an upgrade, we did a full re install and wiped out the installation of server 2012 and installed server 2012 r2, this was not an upgrade
    installation.

The only cause I’ve seen so far is virtual switches being named differently. I do remember that one of our VMs didn’t move, but we simply bypassed this problem, using one-time backup (VeeamZIP, more specifically).
If it’s one-time operation you can use the same procedure for the VMs in question -> backup and restore them at new server.
    Kind regards, Leonardo.

  • Live Migration failed using virtual HBA's and Guest Clustering

    Hi,
We have a Guest Cluster Configuration on top of an Hyper-V Cluster. We are using Windows 2012 and Fiber Channel shared storage.
The problem is regarding Live Migration. Some times when we move a virtual machine from node A to node B everything goes well but when we try to move back to node A Live Migration fails. What we can see is that when we move the VM from node A to B and Live
Migration completes successfully the virtual ports remain active on node A, so when we try to move back from B to A Live Migration fails because the virtual ports are already there.
    This doesn't happen every time.
We have checked the zoning between Host Cluster Hyper-V and the SAN, the mapping between physical HBA's and the vSAN's on the Hyper-V and everything is ok.
Our doubt is, what is the best practice for zoning the vHBA on the VM's and our Fabric? We setup our zoning using an alias for the vHBA 1 and the two WWN (A and B) on the same object and an alias for the vHBA 2 and the correspondent WWN (A and B). Is it
better to create an alias for vHBA 1 -> A (with WWN A) and other alias for vHBA 1 -> B (with WWN B)?
The guest cluster VM's have 98GB of RAM each. Could it be a time out issue when Live Migration happen's and the virtual ports remain active on the source node? When everything goes well, the VM moves from node A with vHBA WWN A to node B and stays there
with vHBA WWN B. On the source node the virtual ports should be removed automatically when the Live Migration completes. And that is the issue... sometimes the virtual ports (WWN A) stay active on the source node and when we try to move back the VM Live Migration
    fails.
I hope You may understand the issue.
    Regards,
    Carlos Monteiro.

    Hi ,
Hope the following link may help.
To support live migration of virtual machines across Hyper-V hosts while maintaining Fibre Channel connectivity, two WWNs are configured for each virtual Fibre Channel adapter: Set A and Set B. Hyper-V automatically alternates between the Set A and Set B
WWN addresses during a live migration. This ensures that all LUNs are available on the destination host before the migration and that no downtime occurs during the migration.

  • Collection Migration fails

We are trying SCCM migration from CM7 to CM2012 first on a test environment before moving to production. Many collection migrations fail with
Entity ABCD with path SMS_Collection.xxxxxxxxxxxx   failed with Invalid Query for collection rule Query
I can see some Attribute classes have not been migrated , that is why the collection can't migrate with those queries and it fails. How to correct it ?  The closest to this problem/solution was in an earlier thread here "Migrating Collections
fails" . WE have the AD Forest Discovery turned on and the SCCM servers have been discovered. So, the  solution in that thread has not worked. Any ideas ?
    cheers
    Vij

    Thanks for the reply Peter.
The colelction won't be migrated at al if it is  a mixed one; so I am not bothered about it.
Yes, we have extended hardware inventory in CM2007. I thought it is automatically migrated during SCCM Migration tool.
I can see some Attributes on which the queries are based is not migrated, that is why the collection migration fails. So, how do we create extended hardware inventory in SCCM 2012, the best solution would be to migrate that also from CM 2007. Someone was
saying , create a client first, then inventorying that would pull in extra hardware attribute classes. I don't know if it would work or not; but that would defeat the purpose of during migrations first before going for clients.

  • Persistent store migration failed, missing source managed object model.

I downloaded the new Desktop Manager and all seemed to go well (I did a backup), until I tried to sync the address book with my new 8120.  I then got an error message 'Persistent store migration failed, missing source managed object model', followed by a failed to sync message. • If migrations fails, how to restore data

    Hello,
if migration fails at image applying step, we can use another TS to install OS only and  loadstate.exe to restore data from SMP, I tried it and it works. But if we use hardlinks, after fail I need to run TS to build OS only and it overwrites folder C:\_SMSTaskSequence\
where UserState folder is stored, and I am not able to restore data. What I can do in this situation?

    Hi,
First I recommend you check the log file SMSTS.LOG.
Also as Peter mentioned, you could use loadstate via the command line to restore the data.

  • Migration/Live Migration fails with shared storage (SMB), but not all the time

I have 2 Hyper-V Hosts using shared storage via SMB. I'm having intermittent issues with migrations failing. It'll either go through the motions of doing the whole move and fail and/or when I try to start it again I get the following:
I've done a lot of reading on this and have done various things that have been recommended. For each Hyper-V host I've setup delagation via Kerberos. ie. HV_Host1 has CIFS - HV_Host2; CIFS - SMB Server; MS Virtual System Migration Service - HV_Host2 and
    vice versa.
On the actual SMB share on the Shared Storage server I added permissions to the folder for HV_Host1, HV_Host2, Storage Server, Domain Admins and my user account for full access.
In Group Policy, I've blocked Inheritance for the OU containing the Hyper-V hosts, though I have added some of the Group Policy's manually that I needed.
Last thing, I also added Domain Admins to the Local GP on each Host for "Log on as a Service" and "Impersonate a client after authentication" as shown in this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/windowsserver/en-US/7e6b9b1b-e5b1-4e9e-a1f3-2ce72ea1e543/unable-to-migrate-create-vm-hyperv-cluster-2012-logon-failure-have-to-restart-the-hyperv
I get these failed migrations regardless if I start them on the actual Host or via the admin console from Win8.
At this point I'm not sure what else to check or the next step to take for this.

  • Iprint migration question

We had to back out of a migration last week because of issues with edir version on Netware. I've updated that and TSA, but another question just came up. I'm migrating iPrint from a cluster, plus doing transfer ID. If I choose cluster resource on the source server in miggui, I only get the consolidate option. Does that mean I need to first run a consolidation job just for iprint and then go back and run the transfer ID? Or will the consolidation screw up a transfer ID?

$(UService migrations based on cluster resources and Transfer ID are separated in Migration Tools (miggui). You need to execute Cluster based iPrint migration in one project and Transfer ID migration in another project.
Perform all service consolidation migrations and make sure they are all completed/synced and working before attempting Transfer ID.

    Has anyone any idea?
    Thx

    Hi,
This reports of an authorization failure while running the ncpshell command.
A more detailed log would explain things better. We have few questions. Please can you do the following things:
    1. Check the ndps folder in your source NetWare server. See whether the psminfo.nlm and psminfo.xml file exist there or not.
    2. Check the debug.log of the migration project. Find out whether there are any other failures prior to this or not.
Please run the following 2 commands manually:
    /opt/novell/ncpserv/sbin/ncpshell --ip=<IP address> --u=<user name> --put --src=/opt/novell/iprint/share/PSMInfo.nlm --dst=SYS:/NDPS/PSMInfo.nlm --d
    /opt/novell/ncpserv/sbin/ncpshell --ip=<IP address> --u=<user name> --invoke --parm1=SYS:/NDPS/PSMInfo.nlm
Let us know whether you hit a failure or not.
If you want to completely avoid the use of ncpshell command itself follow TID 7004910 to overcome this issue.
    Thanks,

Using SCMT 1.1 to migrate from Netware 6.5 to SLES. Migration works
perfectly, except for iPrint. We're getting the error detailed in TID
10098587, but the "fix" it shows doesn't work. We just want to copy the
existing PAs to the new Print Manager running on Linux (same tree,
    different context).

    Thanks.

That seems contrary to the documentation. I couldn't find anything on
moving a Print Manager from Netware to SLES. That was originally my
thought as well, as I've done lots of server-to-server NDPSM moves
without any problem, but there doesn't appear to be a documented method
for moving an NDPSM from Netware to SLES. Also, in this particular
case, the client is trying to build a "parallel" setup for testing
before they actually execute the final migration and cutover.
    Thanks.

  • IPrint migration - Broker and Manager compatibility?

I didn't see this in the docs, but let's say I have one iPrint broker and 2 iPrint managers on 3 diff. servers in NetWare.
I wish to migrate to OES2 SP2 Linux, but do not wish to migrate ALL the iPrint broker/managers on one night
Can I just migrate the MANAGER first? Or must I migrate the BROKER first?
    In other words:
Can an OES2 SP2 Manager "talk/work" with a NetWare iPrint Broker?

I don't think it can, it will need a driver store. That being said I have never tried. I'm guessing it will fail to load as the OES2 iprint manager should be configured to only connect driver store objects.

  • Client PC migration fails from SBS 2003 to SBS 2012 Essentials

Please check out this entire message before making an assumption about what it says, thanks.
Our old SBS 2003 Server hard failed a few weeks ago.
Rather than repair it, we ordered a new server with SBS 2012 Essentials and loaded the backup data from the old server.
The Server is just fine.  We are having no issues whatsoever with the server.  I kept the old domain name and server name.
The Client Computers, some Win7 some Win8.1, have turned into a nightmare to re-connect.
What happens is, the user can log in, but has no files in desktop, downloads or documents, nothing has been migrated:
The process I'm using is this:
1> I take them off the old domain and set them up as workgroup: NOGROUP... that works fine.
2> I bring up http://SERVERNAME/connect and begin installing the server software, no problem yet...
            >> This goes to a point where it asks for a restart, followed by a lot more waiting.
            >> Eventually it crashes with a message I have, unfortunately, not documented (sorry).
3> When I restart the PC, I'm able to log into the user account : DOM\username, but none of the users files are there.
Looking at the file tree at C:\Users I see a folder structure like this:
      C:\Users
            |_   _client.setup_  (essentially empty)
            |_  username         (the old account... and yes, it has all of the files and app data)
            |_  username.DOM (the new account, but essentially empty)
It appears that the setup was supposed to migrate 'username' thru '_client.setup_ into 'username.DOM' but failed.
I can move all of the data from 'username' to 'username.DOM' to solve the data and files problem.
But the AppData folder cannot be moved in its entirety (I tried, and it clobbers the user completely), I have to manually transfer files from 'username\AppData' folders (Local, LocalLow and Roaming) making sure to transfer only the files that don't exist
    in the 'username.DOM\Appdata' folders.
I realize that this process leaves me with a 'Less Than Perfect' AppData setup.
Since I have many Clients left to convert, I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong, or how to make it right.

With a new server with a new domain you have started down the right path.  Disjoin and the http:// technique should have worked, but we can address that when you can give us more info.
When joining a new domain the old users profiles get blocked by security to the new users.  But the local admin or the domain admin should have access.  The way I do it is to copy out the required data from the old profile to a safe place then
copy it back to the new profile when finished.  But there are profile migration wizards, one of them at
    www.forensit.com, that work very well.
As for the system crash when you did the join... please see if you can get the message, and then examine the logs in both the server and the client.   For the server, look here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2014/09/30/windows-server-essentials-log-files.aspx
For the client, scroll down in the link above to the section about client side logs.

  • What to do when SLS - Lion Server Upgrade & Migration Fail

    Hi everyone,
I've had a tough time over the past week trying to updating my SLS to LS. (It was a slow week at the office so despite the warnings in these discussions I wasn't disturbing anyone, so I thought I'd try...) Both an upgrade to the current running system and a clean install on a wipe of that hard drive stall at the "Configuring Services" "Upgrading services" screen of the set up process. The migration path eventually fails, and as far as I can tell, it seems that the upgrade path just stays there forever.
Don't worry - I'm doing this all on a Super Duper! clone of my primary drive, so I can go back to SLS whenever I need to.
BUT, I can tell that the server's status is at least partially okay, even in this stalled setup state - iChat seems to work on various clients, and I can use Server Admin to see stats and services, etc.
So despite the discomfort of a failed install, part of me feels like I'll be fine with the LS if I can just figure out how to move my old data into the right places for the new system to use it. But I can't find any guidance for that. I'm looking to migrate OD (seems to have migrated fine), iCal, iChat, Address Book, Wikis, Time Machine, and File Sharing (which should be trivial to set up, I reckon).
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks very much,
    Willhaus

Okay, so I've had some marginal success.
After leaving the hung install for a ridiculous amount of time (24+ hours), I realized that I could click the help button, and from the help window click the "further info about Lion Server" link to launch Safari. That gave me access to Software Update from the Apple menu, which then let me install the latest Safari update which conveniently enough requires a restart.
After restart, the Server Migration Assistant kicked in again, but failed quickly in the upgrading services stage. Another restart, and the sever finally booted more or less normally.
The strange thing was that although chat services worked fine during the hung install, all OD-related services stopped working after restarting. Turns out there were no users or groups in OD. Importing them from an OD archive, though, restored them.
So now iChat works great (even the old chat longs migrated successfully), and AFP is properly sharing our volumes across our studio's network. So our server is limping along.
The other services we need that aren't up yet are Wiki and iCal. Some info about those:
Wiki: administrators can log in and see all wikis just fine. That's awesome because it means the data migrated successfully. Any non-admin users can log in, but are then get a wiki-styled page that says simply "No wikis found". It's as if they don't have permissions to see the wikis, even though in Server.app they belong to the groups that the wikis are associated with. I've tried removing and re-adding users to groups, but that doesn't seem to do it. Any ideas how to fix this?
Calendar: While I can't get this to work, it's not like it's completely lifeless. An account in a client Lion iCal configured with the proper Lion settings returns an error that reads:
"The Server is Busy or Unavailable.
"The server at myserver.com is currently unable to handle the connection for account “ Calendars” due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. If this continues you should contact the server administrator.
"You may try to connect to the server again or take the account offline."
As a logged in administrator, in a wiki clicking on Calendar in the nab bar goes to the calendar style page with an unending dialogue box that reads "Getting events from server". And clicking on Calendar from Home page footer takes me to the URL https://myserver.com/webcal with an error that says:
    "Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    Apache/2.2.20 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.20 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 Server at myserver.com Port 443"
Again, at least I'm confident that the data migrated properly -  I can find all the calendar data in it's proper new location - but either the service won't start or something's not configured correctly. I've tried chaining the hostname and restarting the service about a billion times. I've got no idea what to try next. Any ideas?
    Thank you so much,
    Willhaus

  • Live Migration Fails with error Synthetic FiberChannel Port: Failed to finish reserving resources on an VM using Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V

Hi, I'm currently experiencing a problem with some VMs in a Hyper-V 2012 R2 failover cluster using Fiber Channel adapters with Virtual SAN configured on the hyper-v hosts.
I have read several articles about this issues like this ones:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/baca348d-fb57-4d8f-978b-f1e7282f89a1/synthetic-fibrechannel-port-failed-to-start-reserving-resources-with-error-insufficient-system?forum=winserverhyperv
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18698.hyper-v-virtual-fibre-channel-troubleshooting-guide.aspx
But haven't been able to fix my issue.
The Virtual SAN is configured on every hyper-v host node in the cluster. And every VM has 2 fiber channel adapters configured.
All the World Wide Names are configured both on the FC Switch as well as the FC SAN.
All the drivers for the FC Adapter in the Hyper-V Hosts have been updated to their latest versions.
The strange thing is that the issue is not affecting all of the VMs, some of the VMs with FC adapters configured are live migrating just fine, others are getting this error.
    Quick migration works without problems.
We even tried removing and creating new FC Adapters on a VM with problems, we had to configure the switch and SAN with the new WWN names and all, but ended up having the same problem.
At first we thought is was related to the hosts, but since some VMs do work live migrating with FC adapters we tried migrating them on every host, everything worked well.
My guess is that it has to be something related to the VMs itself but I haven't been able to figure out what is it.
Any ideas on how to solve this is deeply appreciated.
    Thank you!
