IPS and losing hair

I turned on IPS for the first time and I'm having trouble figuring out what its doing. I have a rule in my inbound ACL that allows icmp from a particular network. However, I get IPS warnings about icmp echo's from those addresses. Also I'm using SDM to try to administer my firewall. I tried to disable the echo rule from IPS, but it seems to disable the wrong one.

My ipod was set up on a Mac. Now I have a PC and want to sync my music on iTunes, but I can't without reformatting my drive and losing my music. Help. I no longer have a Mac. I want to keep the music and videos I purchased. Since it is an iPod classic (80GB) I cannot even use the iCloud. Is there a way to move my ipod's music so I can reformat it to my pc?

WIndows is asking you to reformat the iPod's hard disk because it's probably in the Mac OS X Extended Journaled file system format which the Windows OS can neither read or write to.  Reformatting will erase all content from the device and rebuild the filesystem as FAT32 unless you specify it as NTFS (which you shouldn't do).
If you want to be able to use your iPod to copy music from your Mac to your PC, you'll need to either pre-format it as FAT32 using Disk Utility on your Mac and then copy everything over to your PC, or use third party software such as XPlay that allows a Windows PC to read and write to a Mac formatted iPod.
Perhaps you could take a look at this article for other ways to copy your iTunes library and files from your Mac to the PC.

If the Inbox for this account only is revealed, is there any triangle beside it?
Ah, yes, I see! Silly me to be looking for Sent mail under "Sent"! Indeed, there's a disclosure triangle next to the account name under "Inbox", and wen you open it, it shows Drafts, Sent, spam, and Trash. The sent items are indeed there.
Mind you, my Dot Mac accounts show up normally, i.e., their sent mail goes under "Sent". Wish all IMAP accounts did that. It sure isn't logical to show sent mail inside an inbox...
But to answer your question: In addition to having the "Sent" folder for the account under "Inbox", I also have a folder for the account under "Sent". This folder disappears when I check the box to store messages on the server. There were emails in it (the ones I placed there myself). I have now moved those emails to the sent sub-folder under the account under "Inbox". Even with the "store on server" option UNchecked, the emails were instantly duplicated to the server, so that they were present both locally and remotely. I then checked the "store on server box"; this made the mailbox for the account under "Sent" vanish.
To summarize: things appear to work normally now, except that I find it very inconvenient to have to look in two separate "Sent" folders to find emails I've written.

  • About IPS and its working

i want to know in detail about IPS and its working. Also is it using artificial intelligent or neural network for self upgrading reason.

No, the sensors are not intelligent. They will very happily sit there dumb until updated manually.

Once disabled, you have to restore/recover the iPad before you can use it.
    You will lose your data.

  • I have a external back-up that my iMac (10.6.8) won't mount. Is there a way to mount without intializing and losing back-up data?

I have a external back-up that my iMac (10.6.8) won't mount. Is there a way to mount without intializing and losing back-up data? I used time machine to back-up to a Seagate Go-flex hard drive. I get a message from my iMac that says it doesn't recognize this drive and wants to initialize. Hope someone can help.

Try connecting the drive to a Windows machine, then ejecting.  If it won't eject properly, restart the Windows machine, and try again.  Then try connecting it to the Mac.

  • Why is my macbook pro running so slow and losing internet connection?

Why is my Macbook Pro downloading so slowly and losing internet connection frequently?

Write off the MS stuff as indicators for now--starting with Office 2008, they developed very long launch times. The time to launch 2008 on my old 1.25Ghz G4 and my MBP 2.2G are virtually the same. Even document opens/saves are slow compared to Office 2004 and earlier.
    1) You have adequate hard drive space so that eliminates one of the usual suspects.
    2) Check for runaway background processes. Quit all running user applications so the computer is at normal idle. Find Activity Monitor in Applications > Utilities and launch it. If you've not run it before, change the "Show" pulldown at the top of the AM window from its default of "User Processes" to "All Processes." There is a column for "%CPU." Click that column header to sort by CPU usage. Watch the processes "bubble" for about a minute to get a better picture of the usage.
If any process is using more than about 25 percent of the CPU cycles while the computer is idling, post the names of the processes and we can see if they can be eliminated. My MBP shows nothing using more that about 5 percent on any given test run as long as I close all my user apps.
    3) If you have never done any sort of maintenance procedures, taht can slow you down. Simply restarting the computer a few times a week clear a lot of temporary files. You also may wish to review this article on the Mac OSX periodic maintenance scripts, which, if run, also do a lot of cleanup:
    http://thexlab.com/faqs/maintscripts.html
There are other useful articles on file maintenance associated with the one. Here's the index:
    http://thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html
Check out articles with "Maintain" and "Tuning" in the titles.
    4) Use Disk Utility to check the SMART Status of your hard drive. A failing drive can make things slow before it makes things stop.

  • Can IPS and AntiBot work in Active - Active Mode

    Hi,
When we propose two firewalls in Active - Active mode with IPS module and Anti-Bot Licences, will the firewall along with IPS and Anti-Bot work in Active - Active mode? If not, how do the other OEM's claim that they are able to run their UTM in Active- Actvie Mode.

    Hi,
I haven't seen any type of limitation with IPS and Botnet Traffic filtering on Multiple context mode; so it should work  fine.

  • IPhoto is quitting unexpectedly and losing the photos I just imported and edited.

iPhoto is quitting unexpectedly and losing the photos I just imported and edited.  Any suggestions to fix it?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • IPS and IDS- ARP Inbalance-of-Requests and TCP High Port Sweep

Does anybody knows about ARP Inbalance-of-Requests and TCP High Port Sweep IPS signature? We've been receiving numerous numbers of alerts with this kind of signature in the IPS.
Actually, I'm planning to tune these events in IPS and I really need your inputs if it is safe to tune. Based on my investigation, most of the source and destination IP's are internal to our network (e.g servers, workstation and other device).
I think this is false positive incidents...
    Best regards,
    Carlou

This will be a normal signature to see triggered if you are watching outbound traffic from your internal network. As long as the source of the traffic is your internal hosts, and the destination is external hosts, this is likely just normal behavior.
This signature triggers when a single host sends TCP SYN packets to a number of different hosts, perhaps because of multiple web sessions going, or pop-up windows while web surfing.

  • How can integrate IPS and WAAS???

I have been working a lot with troubles to integrate an IPS 4240 in my WAAS plataform. A lot of signatures comes up when I have actived IPS. I found out some tips about disabled specific signatures and install the appliance in IDS mode.
¿Anybody known how i can conduct a transparently integration with these technologies?

When the IPS sensor is placed outside of the optimization path, then both IPS and WAAS will work well. The IPS sensor blocks the TCP option 21 that WAAS uses to initiate the WAAS setup. The IPS sensor cannot handle the sequence number manipulation that WAAS currently uses. It's outside the RFC and the sensor will block those packets by default.

  • Migration Assistant issues and losing files (Mt. Lion on new hard drive)

I just, by either dumb error or providence, migrated the contents of my backed up hard drive, which has my Mt Lion and all applications folders, to a new hard drive. The old and original drive on my 2008 Quad Mac Pro was starting to worry me. All of the applications and systems files appeared to have migrated flawlessly, and my calendar updated and my 20,000+ emails were restored. All of the programs/applications work. Everything appears normal, except data and obvious missing files. (Note I had installed Mt. Lion over  Leopard and Snow  Leopard previously, and did not rewrite the drive before I did that.)
The size of this new drive is substantially less than the last one. On the latter, I counted more than 50 gigs of data, on the volume with all of the primary OSX documents. That is what I see in the Time Machine backup right before I did the Migration Assistant. The size of the same volume on the restored new hard drive that has my OSX is about 31 gigs.
I did NOT run (by accident and perhaps curiosity) the Time Machine restore backup using disk utilities. Again I did, by accident or curiosity) Migration Assistant.
What does appear lost are all of the Windows documents that were accessible on my portioned drive on my old hard drive, accessible only via VMWare. (I had all of those previously backed up, brute force, before doing this, and I'm not worried if I don't access them now since I have them if I need them). This was about 18 gigs of data I guess.
Does anyone else have experience with using Migration Assistant and losing files that may have been on a partitioned drive (running Windows) and accessible by VMWare? I can still rewrite over the new drive I just formatted and do it all over again using disk utilities and running this from a boot jump drive I created before, but this time using Restore/Time Machine. I just had heard from one source it was best to download Mountain Lion first, and then do a Time Machine restore, which I ended up actually not doing.
    Thoughts appreciated.

  • Iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge, iphone 5 getting hot and losing charge

Since returning from far east my iphone 5 is now getting very hot and losing charge within half a day at maximum

It is normal for the phone to be warm when the device is being used, or charged.  If it is uncomfortably so, you should probably visit an Apple Retail store and have them take a look, or call AppleCare if you are still under warranty.  They can run a diagnostic to see if there is a problem (But the apple retail store can likely do more as they can visually inspect the device in addition to the diagnostic test).

  • Losing Windows 7 Shares, and my hair.

I have been through this countless times. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on a MBP and windows 7 on a desktop. I have multiple shares on the windows machine that I access from my mac. All of a sudden, when transferring a file over smb, the transfer quits because the data "cannot be read or written" and I am unable to access the shares. When I try to reconnect to the shares I get an error saying
"Connection Failed. There was an error connecting to the server "10.0.10.5". Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator (Thats Me)."
This problem persists until I restart both the mac and the pc. I use account protected sharing, not guest sharing on the pc but I have tried both with the same result. I have adjusted the 'Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level' in windows.
Every 12 months or so I do a clean install on my systems and the problem dissappears. After a period of time that could be 1 day or 10 months the problem returns. I have seen this issue since 10.5 and Vista and it keeps crawling back. Any feedback would be great, but I have probably already tried it.

OK, I solved it. I found an answer at http://alan.lamielle.net/2009/09/03/windows-7-nonpaged-pool-srv-error-2017 that details a registry change that makes windows 7 act more like a server.
Set the following registry key to ’1′:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache
and set the following registry key to ’3′:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size
