IPS automatic update to E4 engine

Hi,
Is there a way for the IPS to automatically download the E4 engine through an FTP server like the signature auto update?
I need the answer the the below scnearios
1- upgrade from 7.0(2)E3 to 7.0(2)E4
1- upgrade from 7.0(1)E3 to 7.0(2)E4 -> In this case the whole SP should be downloaded, I doubt this can be done automatically but just in case there is a new way to do it???

- Upgrade from 7.0(2)E3 to 7.0(2)E4 can be done automatically through the auto-update from cisco.com. When you perform the signature auto update, it will automatically update the engine to E4.
- Upgrade from 7.0(1)E3 to 7.0(2)E4 needs to be done as per normal upgrade process, ie: download the upgrade package "IPS-K9-7.0-2-E4.pkg", and update the sensor.
Hope that helps.

  • Is it recommendale to deactivate the automatic update of search plugins for a faster start of FF?

I read that one can deactivate the automatic update for search engines in the settings because there are very seldom such updates (e.g. lastly in early 2010 for Google). This would provide a faster start of FF.
I don't want to have overaged search plugins that might cause trouble, so my question is: Is it recommendable to do this?
If you speak german, here is the URL where I found this:
    http://www.computerbild.de/fotos/Mozilla-Firefox-20-verstecke-Funktionen-6272370.html#18

You can lock the related pref(s).
    lockPref("app.update.auto", false);
    lockPref("app.update.enabled", false);

  • Cisco ips link update signature automatically ?

    Dear all,
I would like to know what address or link that we need for update IPS 4240  signature automatically from cisco.
In our IPS config show this link. is  it correct ?
    user-name sabirins1978
    cisco-url https://198.133.219.25//cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Budy

Umm, I tried to access both links..
I could access the page using the link with one slash (https://198.133.219.25/cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl), but I couldn't access the page using the link with two slashes (https://198.133.219.25//cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl) with the error message: "The Page you requsted is not available".
So, which on of the the correct one ?
Is the license just needed in automatically-updating the intrusion signature (not including firmware/engine update) ?
How long approximately is the signature update released periodically by Cisco ?

  • Options\Advanced\Update\Search Engines: Check this to receive automatic updates to your search engines. ??? Updates to my search engines?? Explain please.

The details are in the question.
The Firefox "Menu Bar" has a 'Tools' list/menu, wherein lies an 'Options' option.
This produces a window which presents eight further sets of options, which are selected by clicking on an 'icon' at the top of this window. Clicking on the "Advanced" icon, and then the "Update" tab, allows me to select, or deselect, the option to "...receive automatic updates to your search engines."
The Mozilla Support search engine was unable to find a match for the above question; can any of Mozilla's helpers locate the missing explanation?
What search engines are these? What updates are these?

Thank you. I had used the Customize Toolbar option to remove that item from the Navigation Toolbar as I like settings in the online version of one or other search engine, and I had not played with this feature to see if it was that flexible.
Now all I need is to find out what is indicated when Firefox "updates" these plugins, and whether they are of any actual use.
    Thank you for your contribution.

  • IOS IPS Automatic Signature Update

    I will use cisco1941w.
I'd like to know, how to configure at CLI and where is the URL.
    Is the bellow correct?
    CLI
    Router(config)# ip ips auto-update
    Router(config-ips-auto-update)# occur-at 0 0-23 1-31 1-5
    Router(config-ips-auto-update)# url https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl
    Router(config-ips-auto-update)# username XXX password XXX
    URL
    https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl

    Hello,
    A. Hete is what the six files do:
    • ios-ips-sigdef-default.xml: contains all the factory default signature definitions
    • ios-ips-sigdef-delta.xml: contains signature definitions that have been changed from the default
    • ios-ips-sigdef-typedef.xml: is a file that has all the signature parameter definitions
    • ios-ips-sigdef-category.xml: has all the signature category information, such as category ios_ips basic and advanced
    • ios-ips-seap-delta.xml: contains changes made to the default SEAP parameters
    • ios-ips-seap-typedef.xml: contains all the SEAP parameter definitions
    B. So the signature file (.pkg) is decompressed into these files and then 'idconf' loads them in memory.
Hence to copy signature database of one router to the other, we need to copy atleast first 4 files.
You only need to distribute the SEAP configuration if you modified any of the Signature Event Action Override configuration:
We do not have one single file that contains all the signatures.  The signature package is installed in a certain way.
Hence we will need atleast first 4 files to copy of signature database from one router to the other.
    C. Secondly, I dont know if auto-update will accept a file in .xmz package, I have not tested this.
But I am guessing it will look for a .pkg file and decompress it.
With copying a .xmz file, you may have to manually load it into memory using 'idconf' command.
    D. Hence there is no one single configuration file that you copy off the external ftp server.
I guess, the only thing you can do is to have different routers update signatures at different times to reduce load on the network.
It is also not necessary to check for signature updates every hour.
Normal rate of adding new signature releases is every few days, so even if you check around once a day that should be ok.

  • How can I prevent Firefox from automatically updating?

    Hello,
I am trying to prevent Firefox 28 from automatically updating to Firefox 29 (on OSX 10.7.5).
I have the option "Never check for updates" checked under 'Update' in the 'Advanced' Preferences. I have "Automatically update Search Engines" unchecked. I have uninstalled Firefox 29 completely using two separate uninstall clean-up kits and emptied the trash before re-installing Firefox 28... Yet every time I finally re-arrange, customize and re-sync Firefox 28 back to the way I like it, I restart my Mac and Firefox 29 rears it's over-drawn, bubbly, space-wasting, UN-SYNCED, ridiculous tabs on top nonsense user interface.
I've tried to work with Firefox 29 but the new SYNC simply does not work and that's a deal breaker. I need the changes I make on my mac to be reflected across the other two systems on my desk (one WinXP, one Win7) and vice versa. When I try to sync on FF29 it takes me to a page to log in and then refuses to recognize my email and password (which I have thoroughly confirmed on my other systems as correct).
Can you please help me prevent Firefox 28 from automatically updating to Firefox 29?

Thank you for your comments, cor-el.
Yes, I know about Classic Theme Restorer, but the point is what gives Mozilla the right to update my Firefox when I already have quite clearly set every option to prevent automatic updates?
    I have set:
    app.update.auto - false
    app.update.enabled - false
    app.update.silent - false
So which secret magic setting has Mozilla used to bypass all these settings and what gives them the right to do it?
Also, moving the tabs bar and menu bar and whatever else has been moved in Firefox 29 is a THEME change. It is not a security fix. Mozilla should not be in the business of changing the theme or look of Firefox. It is not their business how I want my Firefox to look.
Regarding "tabs", I have mine down the left side, so this tweaking of the tab bar position is pointless anyway.
To Mozilla, Just for absolute clarification, there is no way you can possibly justify forcing an update on users computers without their explicit acceptance.
What if someone found out how Mozilla forced the update? They could then force an update that is NOT a genuine Firefox release and do untold damage to peoples' computers.
So now I am forced to delete Firefox from my startup script and start it manually just in case their is another forced update that I can stop.
To cor-el, thank you for your post.
To Mozilla, you have lost the plot.

  • Turn off automatic update of Firefox on Gnome 3, Fedora 15

On Fedora 15, using Gnome 3, I am unable to turn off automatic updates for Firefox, I am only able to turn off auto updates for Add-ons and Search Engines.

Possibly you have obtained a modified version of Firefox. Preferences, chrome, js or whatever may have been modified.
If work requires you to develop on certain versions, and you are doing some of that on this computer, why not install multiple copies of Firefox, including the required versions. I trust the required versions will be the currently supported versions; at the moment that is 3.6, 6, 7, 8 or 9
You should ensure you use multiple profiles so each has a unique profile.
For the current problematic firefox 6 do a clean install, deleting the original program files, but not the profile files. (or possibly an additional install in a custom location with a new profile - allowing you to retain the current firefox 6, and a standard firefox 6) Profiles may be cloned/copied if required, bookmark libraries may be accessed from other versions/profiles if necessary, and multiple versions can be run concurrently. ( I talk from a Windows perspective, but it is unlikely Linux is going to differ)

  • IOS IPS auto-update

    Hi,
I have a couple of questions I hope people could answer:
    1) What recommendations/options are available for downloading signature files to a HTTP/TFTP server prior to having the IOS IPS device pull them from the server?  Is their a way to automate the HTTP/TFTP server downloading the signatures? (Cron job or such)
    2) Does the signature file name change each time a new signature file is released? If it does, would I have to go back to the router to update the URL string that is configured in the ip ips auto-update section? I would hate to have to update 200 CPE devices each time a new signature file is released.
Hoping someone could answer these or help point me in the right direction to find the answer out.
    regards M

  • Why did Firefox automatically update to 9.01 today, disabling a needed extension and my main theme?

I (and many others) have complained constantly about FF's constant updates that consistently break extensions, etc.
Therefore, I turned off automatic updates in the OPTIONS folder. I have FF set not to even check for FF updates.
Today, I reboot the computer, my theme is gone, disabled for no good reason. An extension I use (FoxClocks) is gone and listed as incompatible with the new version, '''9.1'''
Hmmm. I thought that applied in mid-January. According to the Update History, Jan 12 to be exact.
Now, I turned off the automatic update feature for FF (leaving it for Add-ons and search engines). Yet, something still seems to have happened automatically in the background that disrupted my browser.
    So could someone tell me
    (a) has an automatic update been applied against my wishes?
    (b) I thought I'd made sure that couldn't happen. How do I stop it from happening, otherwise?
    (c) If this wasn't an automatic update, what was it? How do I stop it from happening?

Auto update preferences are OFF. I turned off the automatic update feature for FF (leaving it for Add-ons and search engines)
I don't think 9.01 is a new update either. I applied it in mid-Jan according to the software history---that was a late application because I do not like Firefox's frequent update policy and I only apply after they are well established and not likely to break my extensions.
Yet, suddenly, nonetheless one morning my browser booted with the Noia theme gone, and Fox Clocks disabled. (It is now back.) Which is extremely odd since I also use FF on my laptop (Vista) and have FC installed there---and it works fine with this version and there was no such problem on my laptop. What in the world can that be about? (Note that the laptop is Vista; the desktop XP3)

  • How do I set up automatic updates to Waterfox?

When I go to Waterfox, then options, then Options, then the Update tab, all I see is Automatically update search engines - there is no option shown for actually getting updates. I have Waterfox version 14.0.1. I would like to be able to update to more current versions when they become available. How do I do that?

I haven't tried Waterfox. On their help forum, the discussion implies that you might have a separate update icon, or that you could set one up. See: [http://www.overclock.net/t/1308687/waterfox-updater#post_18217940].

It looks like the issue is that the IPS is running the E3 engine (6.1(1)E3).  All new updates require the E4 engine, so you'll have to update the sensor to 6.2(2)E4 or 7.0(4)E4.  Upgrade links and instructions can be found here:

  • IPS Signature Update. The IPS is left hanging.

I have performed a IPS signature ID update once the definition have been updated the IPS is left hanging and I need to perform a reload.  The config has been verified as not a possible cause for this adverse effect.  Have people had issue of this sort? • I automatically updated to Firefox 4.0.1 for Mac, and now the program misbehaves. It hangs when I try to quit. Can I downgrade to 4.0?

I was running 4.0 on my Intel Mac (Leopard 10.5.8), and everything was fine. Firefox automatically updated me to 4.0.1. Then I noticed my computer running very slowly. I am unable to quite Firefox without forcing a quit.
Can I reinstall 4.0? If so, where can I download the original version?
    Thanks.

Your users agent is stuck at Firefox 3.0.11 due to a extension during when you had 3.0.11 and it tacked on stuff on end and kept it from updating the version number. This was due to the "Fast Browser Search toolbar" extension (FBSMTWB). This issue is not a problem with Firefox 4.0 and newer.

  • In Pages 5, how to get date to automatically update upon opening a template?

I'm using Pages 5.2. In prior versions of Appleworks and Pages I was able to construct and save a template in which the date would automatically update to the current date when the template was opened. I have tried "Insert Date" and I can click on that to update to current date, but I don't always remember to do that and therefore, some of my documents are dated several months prior.
Can't seem to find how to do it under Pages 5.2 Anyone have help or a work around?

    I have the same problem.
What confuses me is that all the apple provided templates in pages seem to auto update their time and date upon opening.
So there MUST be a way to do it... although I've been unable to work out how...
