IPS Software version

Just received an ASA with a SSM-20 module. I am trying to determine the most recent sensor software revision for the IPS module. v5.1(7)E1 has an Oct 18, 2007 issue date and version 6.0(3)E1 has a June 28, 2007 date. Which is the most current version?

6.x is the most recent version. What you're talking about are simply patch levels. It's certainly possible that the 5.x and 6.x versions are both being actively maintained (I haven't been paying much attention to 5.x since moving to 6.x). The "most recent" release or patch is relative to the version of software you're running. IOW, if 5.1(8)E1 is released tomorrow, 6.0(3)E1 is still the most current patch for customers running 6.x.

    Now we want to block P2P sharing Bit torrent to internet sites. Please help me with the configuration.

    Hi Chavan , 
    You can try to block this by port. 
    The well known TCP port for BitTorrent traffic is 6881-6889 (and 6969 for the tracker port). 
    The config is
    Access-list BLOCK-P2P-TRAFFIC deny tcp any any range  6881 6889 log 
    And applies to the desire interface with the "Access-group command"
    For example:
    Access-group  BLOCK-P2P-TRAFFIC outbound interface DMZ
    However Blocking Bittorrent is challenging, and can't really be done effectively with port blocks. The standard ports are 6881-6889 TCP, but the protocol can be run on any port, and the peer-to-peer nature of the protocol means that discovering peers that use unblocked ports is simple.
    Also you can execute  from the cmd on windows  the command  netstat -a and check the port Bit torrent is using .

  • Trying to enable/configure an IPS software module on ASA 5545

    I've been trying to get our IPS module working on a pair of ASA 5545-X with nothing but grief.  First we lost our license paks, then I found then and genned the license files  FALCONXXXX.LIC. Cisco told me that I have to config the CX module and use Prime Security Manager to load the *.lic files. 
    Finally get that done but the IPS module is still inactive. Okay missing IPS image on disk0: copy that on to ASA and try loading it using the 
    sw-module cmds and return error is can't load image another service is running
    So do I have to stop the CX after all this Prime Security manager stuff?  I can't use ASDM since it only wants an activation key (hex) which I don't have..
    Ideas? suggestions?

    The thing to keep in mind is what IPS you have purchased. There are three distinct types.
    The classic IPS uses the IPS software module. That uses a subscription that is bound to your ASA via your Smartnet support and does not require an license file once the software module is activated using an activation key.
    The CX module also has an IPS license option. That is configured from within the PRSM interface and will only be visible in PRSM - not in the "show module" output. Your output indicates the CX module is installed so if you have that IPS license type for CX (i.e. the FALCONXXXX.LIC) you need to follow the CX quick start guide and apply the license file via the PRSM GUI.
    There's also an IPS license type for the sfr (FirePOWER service module) which is installed via the separate FireSIGHT Management Center and applied to the module remotely.

  • LWAPP to CAPWAP across different software versions. ?

    Hi guys,
    I was wondering if someone could clarify what happens when you have controllers live on two different software versions..
    We have 4 controllers.. 2 on version 4.2, which APs currently register to with LWAPP and 2 new ones on version 7..
    On WCS, I have moved an AP currrently registered on a version 4.2 controller and reassigned it to the newer controller ( ver 7 ).
    The AP then reboots and I can see in the event logs that it comes back up on LWAPP after resolving the entry CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.
    On WCS, the AP shows as registered back on the old Controller ( ver 4.2 ) but the Primary and Secondary Controllers are still pointing to newer ones ( ver7 )..
    According to the Cisco document, the transfer from LWAPP to CAPWAP should be seemless, so is this a problem migrating across different software versions. ?   Will the AP sort itself out eventually.
    If I console into the AP and statically assign the new controller IP address, this forces the AP to download the newer software version ( after multiple auto reboots ) and it comes up on CAPWAP.. This shows that the path between the AP and controller is ok..
    Ideally, Im hoping that I can simply reassign our current APs to the new controller ( and onto CAPWAP ) rather than having to console into all our remote APs and statically reconfigure them.. Not fun !!.
    Any advice would be appreciated..

    Yes I agree that, once on version 7 it will perform a lookup for " cisco-capwap-controller ".. I forgot to say in my original post that I had already check this and it does resolve correctly to the two newer controller IPs.. If I console into the AP and manually define the newer controller IP address, it all goes through sucessfully and I can see the discovery and correct registration process in the logs
    So we know that it kind of works but Im hoping that there is a simplier solution from within WCS where I can do all this remotely, rather than consoling into every AP locally.
    Your suggestion of inputting the new controller IPs in WCS instead of the names sounds good however, it needs to be on version 7 first to be able to do this ? As you say, there is a field for this in version 4.2.... Looks like there is a bit of chicken and egg going on here !!.
    Any other ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

    You are already running the latest software for the Generation 1 MARS appliances. You can find newer updates here:

    For IPS, it is better to turn on automatic updates. Just go to:
    Admin >> System Setup >> IPS Signature Dynamic Update Settings
    The URL is already set there, just put your CCO username/password and click 'Update Now' then hit 'Submit'. I think the current Signature release is 352. You can manually downlaod them from here if you like:

  • I have the iPhone 5 and have with 6.0.1 software version.  Although I had them when I moved from iPhone 4 to the 5, the latest update has most of my songs on the phone listed in grey (over 95% of them) and I can't play them.  They are still listed though.

    P.S. When I look at my Playlists most of the songs are greyed out.  However, at the bottom of the list there is a cloud icon with a downward facing arrow.  When I click on it each song starts to "load" and after a few minutes I have the songs back on in the list.  I have to do this to all my playlists (I had over 100) in order to get access to all my songs.  Then I did a sync and it happened again!
    I use iCloud for documents and some other things (calendar, contact, etc.) but am not aware that I have anything music-wise in the cloud.  Any thougnts?

    You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Error trying to update iPhone to software version 1.0.2

    I have just recently purchased an iPhone. I have no problem syncing it with iTunes. The only problem I have is every time I try to update the software version of my iPhone, it downloads the entire thing then an error message pops up as shown:
    *"There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone "name". An unknown error occured (-48).*
    *Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."*
    I have received this error several times and no matter what I do, I can't get it to work. The phone is not hacked, I just purchased it 2 days ago. Its BRAND NEW. I even tried erasing all setting and info, and a restore. Still, nothing.
    What am I doing wrong here? Is there something I need to do in the network settings of my iPhone? Or my cpu? I don't understand the error as I am connected to the internet.

    Thank you for your help. I did try to do a full restore, but had to pause the download. When I came back and resumed it, the download just kept going past the 92MB file. It went all the way up to 200MB of 92MB...I have no idea what is going on with that. So I just stopped it and deleted it.
    But it takes almost an hour to download it from my connection and I didn't want to try it again. Maybe I will have to.
    Any other suggestions?

  • I am unable to update my software version on my iPod touch. It gets to the very end and tells me that my session timed out. What should I do?

    Every time I try and update my software version for my iPod touch from version 4.2.1 to version 4.3.5 I get within .5 MB (409.5 of 409.6MB) to the end and an error pops up telling me that my network connection has timed out so that the update could not be completed.     Hi Jen.  My daughter just compleated her nursing program and is now working as a full time nurse.  Focus and study hard and soon you will be there too.  Now to the problem at hand.  I have the same problem.  I gave up on it and satisfied myself with my iPod without the upgrade.  Reason being I've read so many posts of people having problems after the upgrade.  But I'm sure other factors are involved.  Nevertheless here is the fix most say works to solve the problem:  What ever virus protection you have installed on your computer, disable it.  Then try to install the update. After that enable the protection. I had Kaspersky, and it does it's job well. The thinking is, the virus protection is blocking the upgrade.  Hope this works.   Charlie

    Actually when LR 5 starts for the first time after it is installed it will have a dialog to Buy, Try or Enter a serial number. You select Enter a serial number and enter the LR 5 serial number first and then because it is an upgrade serial number it will ask for the serial number of a Previous version. You then enter the LR 1 serial number.

    I would rather you delete/move other files to the external HD rather than downloading the update file to the external HD.
    First try going here and delete any update files to regain C drive space.
