IPTC information - export in greyscale

The photo information isn’t shown anymore in the exported JPGs in the IPTC since LR4, but it still functions in the TIFF format. Is there a possibility to fix this error?
I work with Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 - Lion - LR 5
Is there a possibility to export LR5 photos into greyscale?
Thank you for your answer.

I cannot duplicate your IPTC in jpg probelem with the same system. Are you exporting a jpg from another file or exporting the original jpg?
Exporting the original (jpg) without saving metadata to it will not embed th enew metadata.
Files cannot be exported as grayscale (single channel)

  • IPTC on export to jpeg screwy

OK, I import some RAW images, add some captions, then export to jpeg. I then open the image in Graphic Converter, and the for the images I have added a caption to, GC says there are two caption fields! One is the caption I added and the other is the IFD0 field calle "ImageDescription" and is set to: "KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA". If I don't enter a caption, the caption is set to "KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA".
Worse, when importing into Gallery2 the IPTC information is not imported. I'm not the only one with the issue.
If I save the file in GC and then import into Gallery2 it works great.
THis all just leads me to believe that Aperture (1.1.2) is not exporting the IPTC info correctly. Your thoughts?
    -Allan

    >The problem is the difference between my workspace (lightroom) and the resulting JPEG (lightroom export). All my JPEG-exports from lightroom have more red than the version in lightroom.
If you are really exporting to sRGB jpegs (again, shooting in sRGB mode on your camera has NO impact on the RAW files - check whether the export settings in Lightroom are set to sRGB!), there are usually several possible causes for the redshift.
    1. Your screen calibration is bad. This is very common and the fix is usually trashing the monitor profile and creating a new one. A common issue is bad monitor profiles supplied by monitor vendors.
    2. You are using a wide gamut monitor such as an Eizo, one of the Dell HC screens, etc., and are viewing the exports in unmanaged apps. If you have a monitor that has a gamut significantly different from sRGB, you cannot use unmanaged apps, such as Internet explorer or Firefox 2.0 (basically every windows app except for Vista picture viewer basically), to judge color of your images. You need to use color managed apps, such as Safari, Photoshop, etc. to judge the color. Viewing sRGB images in unmanaged apps on such a screen will make your image appear oversaturated.
    3. You are using a dual monitor setup and the OS is confused which profile belongs to which screen. Especially on windows, it is often not possible to really correct for two different screens even if the software tells you it does. This can be hard to diagnose, but usually it just takes plugging out one monitor and recalibrating the one that is still connected.
In conclusion, If you have a typical normal-gamut monitor and you have calibrated correctly, you should see almost NO shift when exporting to sRGB jpegs and viewing in unmanaged apps. The images should look identical in apps that are managed.

  • IPTC information reverting to older version when opening in CS5

Ok, I will try to explain this as clearly as I can. I am having an issue with the IPTC information for an image (in this case keywords) reverting to a older version when I open the tiff image in photoshop CS6 compared to CS2.
The keywords were added in ThumbsPlus on a Windows XP computer. On the XP computer the image was edited on, all the keywords are there when the image is opened up in CS2, irrelevant of whether the image is from the folder on that computer, or the version that was copied to my computer (Windows 7).
However when I open up the image in CS5 on my computer (again irrelevant of whether I open my copied version or the one from the XP computer) the keywords viewed in File Info are an older version with words missing. If I create a jpeg file from this tiff it makes it with the older version of the keywords (this might be obvious, just wanted to give all info).
I have randomly had the problem before with other images dropping of the description or again reverting to an older version.
This has only been happening since I have had CS5.

Please bare with me I am a complete novice about these things.. Here is what I did (which didn't work)..
    1. I deleted the app off my phone.
    2. Despite the phone syncing when I plugged my phone into the computer the old version of the app is still showing in my itunes library. (I am still showing that an update is available for it). If I had the new version updates wouldn't be available correct?
    3. Went to my device.. right clicked and selected "Backup".
    4. Synced phone. (Had" My device" open and synced using button on lower right side of the screen).
The sync did not add the app to my phone.

  • How to hide EXIF (not IPTC) when export from LR3

I am exporting some hi-res images from LR3 (to send to one of my clients) and I need to hide my EXIF (camera settings etc) data completely BUT keep the IPTC (keywords, copyrights etc) data intact. Is there any way I could do that with in LR3 or with the help of a 3rd party plugin/software? When I click "Minimize embedded Metadata" it only removes IPTC not EXIF.

  • Export to greyscale imagefile

Why can't Lightroom export greyscale images as greyscale?
When I need a greyscale imagefile I have to use another application to do this. I find this very unpractical - and a bit odd for a professional application like Lightroom not to have this option.
This should be a simple thing to put into Lightroom2. (?)
Will you do it? - Please!

I entered this the "wishform"/ feature request form:
    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:
    Export image as greyscale file.
How would you like the feature to work?
There should be a choice for "Greyscale" in the Export/File Settings/Color Space Selection field. (Same selection field where you select "sRGB", "AdobeRGB" or "ProFoto RGB" .
Why is this feature important to you?
I need the option to export my black&white images as greyscale files. This is practical when I need to work with the image as .tiff or .psd file in photoshop. The filesize gets smaller and is faster to work with. Last I need the option when I submit my finished images to magazines.
Is this OK, do you think?

  • Export greyscale

    Hi
I'm having problems when I take greyscale images to the printers as my files are still in sRGB. I am converting to greyscale in develop, and the exported jpgs are greyscale but still in sRGB. How do I export in greyscale please? There is no option for this in the drop-down for export colour space.
I am just using Lightroom, but I do have the LR2Mogrify plug-in.

sRGB it just uses the three channels to hold the information. LR doesn't export to greyscale. If you have a particular printer profile that uses a greyscale space then use the print module and attach the profile there..

  • Embedding IPTC Metadata without Exporting

Does anyone know of a way to write the IPTC data (keywords, descriptions, etc) to the actual file without exporting from Aperture. The problem with exporting is that I have about 20,000 photos, all with keywords, scattered around many folders. If I export, I either need to export one folder at a time (there are hundreds) to preserve the project/folder structure or I need to export them all and loose the folder structure.
Am I correct about this assumption?
Any suggestions for how to either preserve the structure during an export or change the IPTC information in the original file without exporting?
Will synching up to Flickr write the metadata to the file?

yes. use the metadata inspector>IPTC-Expanded. select the photo and input the information into it.
you can also select at the bottom of the metadata inspector "IPTC" make sure "Hide Empty Tags" is deselected and check the ones you want to see on your list. if you don't see what you want in the list you can also make your own
EDIT: you can also rearrange the order of the items listed by dragging them up or down
or download the different protocol lists from
    http://www.iptc.org/cms/site/index.html?channel=CH0086
    and import them into aperture

you can always do a query search in your library and export the group of photos according to the search input to it's own folder (you can make at export). for example, city, byline, into a folder

see above or when exporting select "edit" and "Include Metadata" this will export your IPTC info with the photo

not sure but there is a buggy plugin for this (hasn't worked for me):

  • WAD - Export to Excel: Information from Web Item "FILTER_PANE_ITEM"

    Hi all
In a report header I would like to display all the restrictions (filters) that have been placed on a query. I do this by adding a FILTER_PANE_ITEM in the web application. I works fine in the IE: In the top of the report all restrictions are displayed and below the query result from ANALYSIS_ITEM part.
I have created a Buttom called "Export to Excel". The Command is EXPORT and in the web items for Data Binding I list both the FILTER_PANE_ITEM and the ANALYSIS_ITEM.
When I run the report in the IE and push the "Export to Excel" buttom the data is exported to Excel...but only the ANALYSIS_ITEM part. All information from the FILTER_PANE_ITEM are missing... And I don't understand why!
Can anyone give me a hint to what I am doing wrong?
    Regards
    Peter

    Peter
FILTER_PANEis not an exportable item and hence the web item binding is ignored.
Please see note 1178857 - Additional information: Export to Excel functions
Alternatively, you can use INFO_FIELD Web Item to display the list of static, dynamic filters and variable values used.
    Thanks

  • Copying IPTC caption information from one file to another

I need some help with jpeg files to run a script or Automator workflow to copy from one picture to another IPTC information (that's the text that makes up the caption, source, date location etc information in jpegs).
I have more than 300 high res pics that need to receive the IPTC (caption) info already typed into medium res versions of the same pics. The pics are all logically named and numbered (picSB_yyyy-mm-dd_med001 and picSB_yyyy-mm-dd_big001, 002 etc).
I already use Automator to bulk change some IPTC fields (location, copyright, credits etc) and have typed up details of who's in the pics etc in the caption field itself). But I can't see the work flow elements I'd need in the palettes on the left side of the Automator screen to copy the IPTC fields to other files.
I think there are two ways I could do this.
    1) Set up an if/then script based on the file names and trailing numbers -
If file in folder named Medium ends in 001, copy IPTC info to file in folder named Big that ends in 001,
Repeat adding one to the value of the trailing number.
    2) Move the files to new folders and have the IPTC info copied from one folder to another -
Move top file from folder Medium into a folder named Medium To Do,
Move the top file from folder Big to Big To Do,
Copy IPTC from file in Medium To Do to file in Big to Do,
Move file from Medium to Do to Medium Done,
Move file from Big To Do to Big done,
    Repeat.
Can anyone advise me if I've missed the required elements in the Automator palette, or if such scripts might be available elsewhere?

Post the code plz so we can have a look...

  • Exporting information

    Good day,
We were thinking about using this service to have everyone sign consent forms (create the form, have them fill in their names / phone numbers / email etc....
However, we do not want just a spreadsheet of this information exported, but an actual page / person with all the pertinent information on it (the blurb on what the consent is about, their submitted information and the legal blurb.  1 page per person on the export.
Is this possible, or is the export primarily a spreadsheet ?
Thanks in advance for the response.

The best you could do is export out the detail view to PDF. This FAQ explains: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1383

  • IPTC geek stuff  (If you understand this that's just sad)

I am seeing two IPTC deviations between Aperture and Adobe CS2 and/or iView. These are fields whose mapping is well specified by IPTC documents and these mixups shouldn't be occuring
The Aperture Sub-location field (IPTC IIm 2.92) which should map to Adobe CS2's Location (IPTC IIMv4.1 2.92 = IPTC Core Location) and iView's Location (IPTC IIMv4.1 2.92 = IPTC Core Location) fields does not appear in either program.
The Aperture Expiration time field (IPTC IIM 2.38) which shouldn't map to any supported field in either Adobe CS2 or iView appears in iView's ISO Country code field (IIPTC IIMv4.1 2.100 = IPTC Core Country Code).
This is based on IPTC publication:
    Iptc4xmpCore1.0-spec-XMPSchema8.doc
    available for download at:
    www.iptc.org/iptc4xmp
Now that I have that off my chest we can all go back to life as usual.

    Thanks Patrick,
There are really two main issues that I raised in my posts.
First: some incompatibility issues that should be possible to resolve in a minor program update. The fault here may lie with Adobe or iView although I would guess its probably the newest of these applicaitons--Aperture. These troubled fields don't store photographer contact info but do help with establishing the location of an image.
Second: From what I can see Aperture inherits its IPTC structure from the Mac OS and Spotlight. They seem to have done a very exact implementation of the 1999 IPTC IIMv4.1 standard, Even to the difficult to read formating of the date fields CCYYMMDD (i.e. 20060416 with no separators or punctuation marks for easier reading).
The newer 2004 standard IPTC Core (or IPTC XMP) has the fields that allow contact information to be a part of the image metadata record. For the legal reasons I mentioned above I would think that any professional would want their contact info in an image's metadata record.
NOTE: Even if an image says "copyright to Joe Smith" the users of the image can claim that they didn't know how to contact Joe so were entitled to use the image without payment.
Including contact info in the IPTC data would require that Apple adopt IPTC Core (XMP formatted metadata) and would probably have to be implemented as an OS level revision (OS X 10.5). I can't imagine any reason why they wouldn't want to support photographers in that way.
To view the question that has popped up in several other threads of putting metadata in exported files, in particular RAW files: the standars for attaching metadata to RAW files are so fuzzy or badly followed that sending out a RAW file to a client is asking for your IPTC information to be ignored. Better to use TIFF, JPEG or PSD.

  • Aperture 2 and new metadata information

I have just upgraded my 1.56 library to Aperture 2.0 library and am very impressed by the general speed of operation, especially the query hud which is very fast indeed. However one thing puzzles me. When I upgraded my library all the existing metadata is carried through to the new library but the new exif fields remain empty. This is important to me as I need to kow the lens model I am using on each image. What is strange is that if I drag (or import) images into a new project all the metadata fields are filled including the lens model fields. My question to the Aperture team (or any knowledgeable users) out there is how do I get the missing metadata fields filled up without losing any of the existing IPTC field and keyword data that I have painstakingly completed over the last few years on my existing images.
Message was edited by: Trevor Craig

I just solved my own problem.
    1. Export Raw images as masters and tick embed IPTC information
    2. Start a new Aperture library and the exported masters all back in again
All information is now available in the metadata fields. The downside is you need 2x storeage initially to do this and will loose your edits from version 1.56.
I suppose you can't have everything sorted!

  • Missing IPTC fields

Does anybody found the IPTC fields: categories, scenes and subject codes?
They are quite important for journalism, but aren’t included yet? (like most of the creator infos)
It would be nice, if I also can make sets/buttons from other IPTC information like from the keywords.
Any press photographer here, who got the same IPTC problems?
    Greets.

    kgelner wrote:
"Category" is there, as is "Subject Reference" (could be used as subject codes?). I'm not sure if there is something there Scene would map to.
The ones that are there, you can add to any metadata set you are viewing by opening up the IPTC tab at the bottom of the screen, and pressing the checkmark next to the IPTC field you desire to add to the current metadata view (any metadata element from any category can be added to any view, they are just grouped as they are to start for convienience).
Any that are not there - why not add them? For "Scene", open the "Other" tab at the bottom, then type "Scene" into the "New Custom Metadata" at the top of the field list, then enter some value for that field and press return. Now it will appear in the list with a checkbox, which you can add to the current view - and it should export with the image when you ask Aperture to export metadata.
With all due respect, it absolutely amazes me that so many people don't understand how IPTC works. You can't just "map" fields any way you want, and if you want to follow the schema properly, you can't just put whatever data you want to in each of these fields. The ability to add custom metadata fields in Aperture is pointless, as they don't actually have any IPTC relevance.
Therefore, adding fields to compensate for the lacking IPTC support doesn't work as these custom fields don't map to existing IPTC fields when the image is exported, so the data is lost. Pointless waste of time.
Check out http://www.iptc.org for all the details. You should quickly realize after just a little reading that Aperture, even version 2, is lacking proper IPTC support. Frustrating, as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, iView MediaPro, Microsoft Expression Media, and so many others properly support IPTC.
However, to be fair, you are correct that Category is there. Subject Reference in Aperture is Subject Code in IPTC, however, in testing I have found that Aperture has serious export issues with metadata, and this is one of the fields that does not export at all. The four fields that do not export are:
Object Attribute Reference -> IPTC Field: Intellectual Genre
    Sub-Location -> IPTC Field: Location
Country Code -> IPTC Field: Country Code
Subject Reference -> IPTC Field: Subject Code
There is no Scene support in Aperture 2 (this is one of many missing fields in Aperture 2).
I have a compiled list of IPTC fields, the properly mapped fields in Aperture 2, and the missing/broken fields in Aperture 2 if anyone wants it.
