IPTV Sources

Hello,
Does anybody know if you can pick up another source for video to IP for encoding, such as a directly attached IP camera? The trouble I have is that I can't be lugging the broadcast server all over the place for encoding and don't want to have to wire the entire building for composite video capability. I just don't see in IPTV how you can input another source for live broadcast.
Any ideas?

If your building has structured cabling (Cat5, for example), then you can transmit composite or S-Video over the structured cabling system by using an adapter/balun, such as the Avaya (formerly Lucent) 380A.
The 380A is composite video and two audio channels into UTP, with no perceptable loss of quality (at EIA/TIA cabling spec - 100 meters). The Adapter actually allows transmition on UTP for distances greater than the EIA/TIA spec (up to 5000 feet, but with "some" loss of quality).
At that point, all you need to do is cross-connect the live location to the panels feeding your IPTV BC server.
There are a number of vendors with adapters, the 380a is what I've used the most. As mentioned, there are also some providers for S-Video + audio, but I don't have the names available to me. If I find 'em, I'll post 'em.

LGS308 problem with vlan and multicast

Hello,
I have a LGS308 smart switch and am having problems putting multicast traffic on a specific vlan.
The switch is connected to a PC for management (vlan 1).
All ports are in acces mode, vlan 1 untagged.
I created vlan 2 and put it untagged on port 7 and 8.
Now, when I connect a multicast device (IPTV) on port 8, the switch becomes unresponsive and nothing works.
It seems the switch is flooded with multicast traffic.
Simply turning IGMP snooping on didn't help so I think it needs more configuration.
Is this a known problem?
ps: Once I have this simple setup running I'm planning for a more advanced setup with trunking 2 vlans (iptv + internet) to another switch over a single UTP cable. But first things first

I have changed the setup like this:
Switch 1
port 1 - access mode - vlan 1U <---> Internet
port 2 - access mode - vlan 1U <---> PC
port 7 - access mode - vlan 2U <---> IPTV source (IGMP)
port 8 - trunk mode - vlan 1T + 2T <---> switch 2 port 8
Switch 2
port 7 - access mode - vlan 2U <---> IPTV source (IGMP)
port 8 - trunk mode - vlan 1T + 2T <---> switch 2 port 8
With this setup, I can reach both switches from my PC.
However, multicast doesn't work. I don't get IPTV on switch 2 port 7.

Airport multicast performance problems in u-verse IPTV bridge.

I have a bunch of airport hardware, two n expresses, a draft n extreme, and a 5th generation extreme. I've recently moved to a new house and have AT&T's u-verse multicast IPTV installed. I want to put my TV somewhere without wiring and was going to just do it using a dedicated 802.11n bridge formed from either the two expresses, or the draft n extreme (at the multicast source side) and an express as a receiver.
This seems to work from a functionality perspective, I get the multicast stream into the AT&T set-top box and can watch all of the channels for extended periods of time. The problem that I run into is that I have performance problems that result in the video stuttering, pixelating, and freezing for seconds to minutes at a time. I don't understand why this is the case. The HD stream is less than 9Mbps which should be easily handled by a 5Ghz, n-only link. The source and destination expresses are within 5 feet of each other with clear line-of-sight.
Does anyone have any experience with multicast streaming on aiport hardware? Is there some limitation in the airport implementation where multicast (UDP) packets trigger some sort of slowpath packet processing, so that packets are being dropped? Is there some reporting feature within airport utility that where I can look for diagnostics related to dropped or (extremely) delayed packets? Is there something about AT&T's use of multicast IPTV that is just incompatible with airport hardware?
Note that the u-verse gateway handles all of the IGMP in this situation, and that nothing else is on the network. Well, the 5th gen router is on the network and everything else I own is behind it on a different wifi network. The gateway is smart enough to filter out the multicast traffic so that the router doesn't see it.

Found a solution. Switching from Apple's built-in "create a wireless network" and "join a wireless network+allow ethernet clients" to a WDS network with a main and a remote solves all of the problems. It's not a great option because the WDS network forces me to select a fixed, 2.4Ghz channel, but the IPTV stream is only 8-ish Mbps which seems to be doable, even with all of the wireless networks floating around my house. I guess that it could be a bigger problem during peak wifi usage around here, but we'll cross that bridge when it happens.

IGMP Filtering on source port

Hi,
I had 2 source ports from my SP which is for the IPTV streaming and the multicasting address is 229.10.10.1 - 10 & 229.10.20.1 - 10. Is there anyway I am able to do a source address filter on the incoming source port? Eg Port G1/0/23 the multicast address will be from 229.10.10.1 - 10 and Port G1/0/24 the multicast address will be from 229.10.20.1 - 10.
I try creating IGMP Profile and apply the filter on the interface but it does not work. Was wondering if there is any other methods to achieve this. Thanks in advance.

First of all multicast address are never used as source addresses, will always be destination.
Now I can see you are attempting to allow only traffic for certain multicast address via some specific ports.
Ex:
G1/0/23 for 229.10.10.1-10
G1/0/24 for 229.10.20.1-10
Why dont' you use a multicast boundary filter?

IPTV Displays Green Screen

Hi All,
We have an IPTV server (3425A) with an Optibase capture card and are trying to send TV from a satellite decoder to the COMP interface on the server.
The decoder has a SCART cable which terminates in a standard video jack, so we have attached a converter before plugging it into the COMP port of the IPTV server.
The program appears to be configured correctly - and starts forwarding. The video/audio settings are as follows:
Audio/Video Bandwidth: 1500
Preferred Video Format: MPEG1
Compression Quality: 8
Max. Video Frame Rate: 25
Audio Format: MPEG
However, when our Viewers 'tune in', they can hear the audio, but all they see is a green/black moving image. I suspected that the compression settings were wrong, or possibly the cable from the decoder to the server, so we decided to attach a normal TV - this shows the image fine.
Has anyone expereiced this green/back 'noisy' image before? Can anyone think of how we could fix it? Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated ;-)

Thanks very much for your time - don't trouble yourself too much as I am thinking of raising a TAC with Cisco. Since the service has been unavailable for a while, I have configured a brand new IPTV server with Win2k SP3 and version 3.4 of the Content Manager and IPTV server (These both run on the same machine as this is only for a small office in Paris).
Now, when I had the new machine on my desk and loaded the IPTV server, I received the "Capture card detected" message when I loaded the IPTV server. However, as soon as this new server was sent to our Paris office and connected up with a video feed, I'm seeing the "Cannot detect capture card" message again!
It seems as though the message only appears when a video feed is attached - quite a disadvantage, but at least users can view the feed. I am also unable to get to the Optibase capture settings, which you described in your first email. Do you know if there is another way of getting to them?
At least the green screen problem is resolved, but I have asked for the faulty server to be shipped back and I will trial it to confirm that the video source was not faulty.
Just while we're discussing IPTV, do you know anything about the Streamwatch software which comes with IPTV? I'm hoping to find out whether anyone has had any problems with it and what kind of information it can report.
We were warned about multicast storms when using streamwatch, but I think it is now possible to send the reports without using multicast.
Could anyone shed any light on their experiences with Streamwatch?

Error in Creation of BW data source

Hi All,
While creating a data source, i am selecting the Origin type Business ware house cube & in the RFC destination field i can able to select the BW syste. The problem is when i go to the next filed BW report and try to get the relevant BW report from F4 the system shows a log error as "System error in System" Message no. CRM_MKTTG_DS_MISC033.
In second case
I have taken an existing BW Data source and tried to recreate it manually filling all the fields with existing data source, RFC destination, BW report, Business partner and Function module.
In this case the system doesnu2019t throws any error, it is working fine if I create manually.
I am in a dilema why the system behaving like this. could you please throw some light on this issue.

Unable to capture the Data Source into a Transport Request

Hi All,
We have a product hierarchy and we are using the data source :4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER for the hierarchy.
Now we need to transport this structure to the quality environment but we were not able to capture the datasource:4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER into a transport request.
When ever we activate the data source:4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER it is asking for the Package and the Transport Request Number.If we give these details and save it, data source is not getting captured in the request, only the "bject Directory Entry" is getting captured.
Can someone please guide me on how to capture the datasource under "Data Sources in BW" in a transport request.

Hi Sachin,
Hierarachy datasource is not captured as Attributes and Text Datasource. So what ever you have done is correct.
What ever is captured in Object Directory Entry is correct. So go ahead with your transports, once transport is done check the Hierarchy Infopackage with Available OLTP hierarchies and load the data.
Most important thing first see that the all Master & Transactional Datasources are transported in R/3 Dev to QA to PRD
In BW, datasources are not transported, only their replica is transported.
Transportation of Datasource is done in R/3. Only their replica is transported in BW.
So wht ever you have done till now is correct. So go ahead.
While attaching Hierarchy Datasource it is captured only in "Object Directory Entry"

Basic would be ;
RESULT_FIELDS -xxx = <SOURCE_FIELDS> -xxx
you have the source fields as source, and result fields for as the target. In between you can check some conditions as in other routines of transformation.
BEGIN OF tys_SC_1, shows your source fields ( in your case DSO chars and key figures)
BEGIN OF tys_TG_1, , shows your result fields ( in your case Cube characteristics)

Cross Reference Source text options

Creating a Cross Reference linking to a Paragraph. In the paragraph where the cross-reference source is inserted, may the cross-reference link be applied to existing text in that paragraph so that the cross-reference destination text does not appear? Text anchors can be created to accomplish this, but that is an extra step (I can create a cross reference linking to a paragraph all in one dialog box). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I agree that it's confusing. Here's how I do it:
To create a text anchor at the insertion point location:
* Open the Hyperlinks/Cross-References panel's menu (also called "flyout menu." It's the small icon at the upper-right of the panel, below the double-arrow (>>) icon that collapses the panel.
* Choose New Hyperlink Destination. THIS SHOULD BE NAMED NEW TEXT ANCHOR!!!
* Choose Type: Text Anchor
* Name the anchor as you like Click OK.
To create a cross-reference to a text anchor:
* Place the insertion point where you want it.
* Click the Create new Cross-Reference button on the bottom of the Hyperlinks/Cross-Reference panel.
* Choose Link To: Text Anchor
* Choose the target document
* Choose the text anchor
* Choose the Cross-Reference format
* Choose Appearance properties
* Click OK
I'm not sure what could cause the straight/curly quotes problem other than perhaps the font doesn't have curly quotes. Have you tried other fonts?

"get all new data request by request" after compressing source Cube

I need to transfer data from one Infocube to another and use the Delta request by request.
I have tried this when data on Source Infocube was not compressed and it worked.
Afterwards some requests were compressed and after that the delta request by request is transfering all the information to target Infocube in only one request.
Do you know if this a normal behavior?

The objective of compression is it will delete all the request in your F table and moves data to E table.after compression you don't have request by request by data.
This is the reason you are getting all the data in single request.
Get data request by request works, if you don't compress the data in your Cube.

Generate xml source file for Oracle Order Capture Print Quote

Hi,
I am new to xml and need to work on creating templates for Print Quote.
I am trying to generate the xml source file for which I enabled the report in system administrator and set the output to XML and assigned to Quoting Reports responsiblity. I then assigned XML Report Publisher to the same responsiblity.
I ran the report (Print Quote) and then I am trying to run the XML Report Publisher but I cannot get the request id in the list of values.
I am able to generate xml source file for other reports like Printed Purchase Order etc.,
The view output for the (Print Quote) report is as follows:

How do I get the xml source file? Or are there seeded templates that I can use to create more templates? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ravi

Hi, I am in the same position - did this issue ever ger resolved by anyone. I have done a few XMLP reports successfully now using the Word add-in, but customising the Quote output differs from other standard reports.
If you look at the data definition for Quote it is a 'dummy' definition and has no XML file attached. Does anyone know how I can get the XML format for the report output?
Also the template uses XSL-FO ?!?!?! rather than RTF - not sure how to work with this, the Oracle docs are not very helpful in this regard either.
Has anyone successfully managed to customise the Quote print report? Many thanks,

Using a SQL data source and XML data source in the same template

I am trying to develop a template for the Request for Quote report generated in Apps 11.5.10. I have loaded the data from the XML output into the template, but I am missing one field - I need the org_id from the po_headers table. Is it possible to use a sql data source (i.e., "select org_id from po_headers_all where po_header_id = [insert header_id from xml data]...") in addition to the xml data source to populate the template at runtime? When you use the Insert > SQL functionality is it static at the time the template is created, or does it call to the database at runtime? I've looked through all the docs I could find, but this isn't clear.

Thats a tough one ... if you go custom with a data template you will at least get support on the data template functionality ie you have a problem when you try and build one. You will not get support on the query inside the data template as you might have gotten with the Oracle Report, well you could at least log a bug against development for a bad query.
Eventually that Oracle Report will be converted by development anyway, theres an R12 project going on right now to switch the shipped OReports to data templates. AT this point you'll be fully supported again but:
1. You have to have R12 and
2. You'll need to wait for the patch
On reflection, if you are confident enough in the query then Oracle will support you on its implementation within a data template. Going forward you may be able to swap out your DT and out in the Oracle one without too much effort.

There are 3 methods to update the Calendar or defining the period
E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft calendars have these important elements:
Calendar—Identifier for a calendar
Start Date—Start date of the period
End Date—End date of the period

"Open sql" report no data sourced defined in windows

when I want to import data from sql database, the Open sql window report error
"There are no data sourced defined. Please create one to continue",
but I have defined the odbc data source using windows 's odbc administrator, why the error?

A couple of possibilities.
First are you licensed for Sql interface? If not, you might get that message.
Second, where did you create the ODBC connection on your computer or the server. It has to be on the server.
Third, did you create the odbc as a system driver? it needs to be so
Fourth, what operating system? If it's unix or AIX there is a hole bunch more you need to do to get odbc connections working. If it's windows, it's pretty easy.
Fifth, did you test the connection before trying it in Essbase?

Excel-2007 cannot connect to Oracle ODBC data source, Control Panel can.


I cannot make an ODBC connection from Exce-2007 to Oracle work. I am an expert Excel and VBA user (since 1994) and I have frequently used Excel to access ODBC databases, including Oracle (I have done this with Excel-2003 both with worksheet queries and have written VBA ADO-connection routines). And even though in Excel-2007 a worksheet ODBC query is supposed to be easier to create than in previous version of Excel, my connection fails. Any suggestions and all help are welcome and much appreciated.
DETAILS


1) What is my system? I am using Excel-2007 on Windows Vista x64 and Oracle server v.11g on my computer (all this is on my computer, no network issues).
2) Why use Excel with Oracle at all? I use Excel-2007 to access Oracle rather than Access-2007 (or any other application like TOAD, etc.) because I do engineering calculations with the data stored in Oracle. These calculations are easier done in Excel (I suppose that one alternative to this could be to use some sql or Access to get the data from the database, then store it as plain vanilla CSV file, then open this file in Excel, then do the math (the math involves complex optimisation algorithms), then save the results as CSV, then use some sql or Access to put the data back into the database. Howwever this does not strike me as a quick or neat solution. And after all Excel has been designed to access ODBC databases, so why not use it?)
3) What do I do in Excel-2007 that won't work? I create an ODBC link to Oracle that does not work. In Excel-2007 this is straightforward:

<ul>
<li>define an ODBC connection (Data tab --> From other sources --> From data connection wizard);</li>
<li>define a query on the worksheet -- that's it, this is all!</li>
</ul>

I start with creating an ODBC connection:
a) I choose an ODBC data source type: ODBC DSN
b) Excel-2007 displays the list of the available ODBC data sources. I see in it my Oracle database name and I select it.
c) Excel-2007 displays the Data Link Properties:
- the "Provider" has a list of the OLE DB drivers with preselected "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers". I keep this default selection.
- the "Connection" tab has a connection string "DSN=<my database name>" which I keep, it also has fields for the user name and the password, which I fill with the correct credentials.
- Finally there is a button "Test Connection", which when I click produces the following error message:
"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. 
Unespecified error"

4) Additional food for thought:
a) In the above walk-through the only data, which I type, are the user name and password, everything else is selected from lists offered by Excel-2007, hence any possibility of typos being the cause of the problem can safely be discarded.
b) I can test the ODBC driver in the Control Panel and it shows that it can connect to the Oracle database:
- in Control Panel --> Admin Tools --> Data Sources (ODBC) on the "User DSN" tab I can see the list of the available ODBC data sources (same list as in Excel-2007, point 3b above) with the name of my database in it;
- selecting the name of my database from the list of the sources and clicking "Configure" button opens a tab with Data Source Name (same as in Excel-2007), TNS Service Name and User ID. I enter <user name>/<password> and click "Test Connection" button. A message "Connection successful" appears (just for a test I enter incorrect user credentials and "Unable to connect" message appears)
BOTTOM LINE


The procedure for using an ODBC connection from Excel is very simple, in the past I have created and used such connections numerous times with Excel-2003 and earlier on Win-XP and earlier. But now on Excel-2007 and Vista-x64 I cannot make it work.
Also, testing an ODBC connection driver is really easy and simple to be done in the Control Panel. There testing the same ODBC connection, which fails in Excel-2007, results in success.
I am frustrated by the simplicity of the problem and yet the persistant error. I have lost now two full days in failed attempts to make the simple procedure work and in searching the internet for answers.

Excel 2007 is a 32-bit application.
When installing 32-bit applications in a 64-bit environment, the "default" location is:
C:\Program files (x86)\...
Excel then launches from this location.
However, when it connects to Oracle and passes the name of the calling program, Oracle attempts to "interpret" the value of (x86) as if
the value within the parenthesis are being passed as a reference. Of course, iOracle doesn't find anything, so the result is (),
and then it cannot return the connection info back to the calling application.
I corrected it by installing Excel in C:\Program Files\, and once launched from that location, it works the same as on the 32-bit machines.
However, at my location, they are FORCING Excel to be installed in the(x86) location.
What I'm trying to discover now is:
Is it possible to flag Oracle to NOT process the embedded variables?
Or, is it possible to assign a variable in Oracle such that x86 = "(x86)", so that the end result is viable?
Have you had any luck with your installation?
