IPv6 for management and control plane on WLCs and LWAPs

Good morning, everybody!
I am trying to find answer to a question that has been previously asked by people but never successfully answered
The question is about IPv6 support on Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and access points... Does Cisco have a roadmap to include support for IPv6 used in CAPWAP, control plane and management? There are couple of posts on this topic that do not unfortunately provide any answer to this point.
https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3018843
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-15667
Infamous "Cisco IPv6 Solution" at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/technologies/collateral/tk648/tk872/tk373/technologies_white_paper_09186a00802219bc_ps6553_Products_White_Paper.html briefly states "Wireless Solutions... In future, IPv6 control plane features may get added to those components."
Has anyone heard of any more specific roadmap for IPv6 support for CAPWAP, control plane and management on WLCs and LWAPs?

Full ipv6 support will never be available on the Wism and 440x controllers because they have a NPU to forward traffic and it was not designed with ipv6 in mind.
The 5508 and Wism2 and all new controllers all have CPU based forwarding and ipv6 is coming in next releases.
WLC 8.0 is only for december 2011/2012 and I have to say I don't know if it will support native ipv6.

  • Do you know a unicast protocol for the Ethernet control plane?

    Hi,
Does anyone know a protocol for the Ethernet control plane which has a unicast destination address?
MVRP, MMRP, MSTP, RSTP, all these protocols have a multicast reserved destination address.
Perhaps we have to look non-802.1Q control plane protocols.
    Best regards,
    Michel

    Hi Peter,
    > I wonder if any of the OAM protocols, especially the one providing the loopback/ping test is unicast-based.
    In G.8013 (07/2011) section 7.3:
"The Ethernet loopback function (ETH-LB) is used to verify connectivity of a MEP with a MIP or
peer MEP(s). There are two ETH-LB types:
    • Unicast ETH-LB.
    • Multicast ETH-LB".
    > In any case, think of LOOP frames sent by Catalyst switches to detect  self-looped ports. In these frames,
    > the source and destination MAC  address are set to the unicast MAC of the egress port.
As I said above, it's a good case for my little study.
The LOOP frame, from Cisco, was certainly interesting and important before 2004.
Since 802.3ah-2004 we have the OAM remote loopback (in link OAM, and not network OAM as ETH-LB).

  • What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

What are best practices for managing my iphone from both work and home computers?

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans withiTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Control Plane Protection (CPPr) and Traffic Rates

    Hi Everybody,
currently I'm working on implement policies according to the CPPr but a couple of questions comes to my mind:
    1. Is there any standard to start policing the Management traffic (SSH, SNMP, Telnet, etc)??
    2. How can I identify the current rates for the management protocols in order to Policy them??
I understand how the MQC works and for sure understand the the CPPr optiones and benefits but I cannot find a way to start using it in my network or tuning it for my needs.

  • I want to use Control-W and Control-T to close and open tabs in OS X

On Windows, you can use Ctrl-W and Ctrl-T to close and open tabs. On OS X, you have to use Cmd-W and Cmd-T instead (this bothers me because it is asymmetric with using Ctrl-Tab and Shift-Ctrl-Tab to navigate between tabs). Ctrl-W and Ctrl-T don't seem to do anything by default, so it would be nice if both Cmd or Ctrl could be used as a modifier for closing and opening tabs. Is there a way to accomplish this?
I tried using the System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts tab to set Ctrl-W and Ctrl-T to operate the Close Tab and New Tab menu options, but, this does not work; when I press those key combinations, the File menu briefly flashes, but nothing else seems to happen.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Triggers and control unit between drums and Logic

I have to purchase a trigger set and a trigger control unit to put on a Ludwig drum kit so that to connect to my Stylus RMX sets on Logic thru my AMT8 interface. I have heard about Ddrum for the trigger set, and for the control unit?..
    Any advice?
    Thanks
    Fulvio

the d4 is ok, but unable to load in your own samples. the d5 has this option, but is discontinued. The Yamaha RM50 is my weapon of chioce and is leaps and bounds better in sound quality and options than anything I've seen from Alesis. Great audio out options, and of course, all the MIDI you need, plus the ability to load samples with a memory expansion, and ability to trigger sounds from any card in the R series synths. meaning, load a card for a bass guitar and trigger that from your kick drum, load some string and fx patches and trigger those from your snare. endless possibilities. Check out the RM50, I love mine and highly recommend it.

  • How can I configure and control a non-plug and play VXI card using the NI-controller (NI-VXI/NI-VISA software)?

Defining the slot, logical address and sending data across the card bus are the main operations I would like to perform. The non plug&play card is a VXI send & receive slave card. Low-level programming is probably required. Has anyone tried this before? If so I would be so grateful if you could share your experiences or refer me to someone who has.
Thank you for your time and help,
    Nandeesh

VXI cards are, by specification, plug and play, so I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "non plug&play card." I'm guessing that the card is effectively a VME card. In this case, you can just add the VME device in the proper configuration utility. Here is a link to a document on our website about configuring VME cards (http://ni.com/support/vxi/vmeinfo.pdf).
You should easily be able set the slot, pseudo Logical Address and memory space. Once configured, you should be able to write to registers using NI-VISA commands (viIn, viOut, and viMove). These high level commands are included in the highreg.c example which shipped with your NI-VISA software (installed in vxipnp directory).
    I hope this helps.

  • Control plane protection

    Hi guys,
I want to implement control plane protection for fragmented packets. As far as i know if fragmented packet are traversing through router then service-policy will be applied at control-plane transit but if fragmented packets are destine to router itself then it will be applied at control-plane host. Correct me if i am wrong. Moreover I want to know the difference between
    Control-plane
    Control-plane host
    Control-plane transit
    Control-plane cef

    Hi Bro
What you’re doing is good. It’s always best to block the fragmented packets at the control-plane level, rather than via the normal ACL.
In the basic/lower feature sets IOS versions, there is no breakdown in terms of control-plane. With the advanced/higher feature sets IOS versions, you have control-plane host, control-plane transit and control-plane cef. Your next question would be when do I apply them, in what given situations, am I right? Basically, in a nutshell, here goes
    a)    control-plane host handles packets destined for router itself e.g. management traffic (telnet/ssh/tacacs+/radius) and routing traffic.
    b)    control-plane transit works on IP based packets traversing through the router e.g. internet browsing, email etc.
    c)    control-plane cef focuses on non-IP packets e.g. CDP, ARP etc.
With this in mind, you might wanna expand your knowledge in depth, by reading this Cisco document http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_4t/12_4t4/htcpp.html

  • Building SCADA software for substation automation control using LabVIEW

Hi, I would be interested to know if anyone has built or developed a SCADA software for substation automation control using purely LabVIEW and its add-on tools (beside NI LookOut). The SCADA software, somehow similar to WinCC, should fulfill basic SCADA function for substation such as monitoring and interlocking control of CB and DS (single/double point), generate event or alarm list which includes information such as topical/not topical, valid/invalid...., archiving, redundancy, etc.

    Hi Remzi,
    Thank you for your information.
I understand that the DSC Module is a tool capable of developing monitoring and control system. Using the module would enable me to build a SCADA software (similar to LookOut) according to my requirement. But I think it's quite a difficult task to design and build a SCADA software from the scatch. Unlike a SCADA software, the DSC module is not really a SCADA software where user can directly parameter the I/O points and graphics via GUI. I've actually tried the LookOut software, but found that it's not really suitable for substation automation & control field. Hence, I would be grateful to know if anyone in this field has developed similar SCADA software for substation automation.

  • MPS and LTP planning

    Good day to you all,
What is the MPS planning in R/3, can someone give me a brief couple of lines?
I know it very well in APO but have had a look at the navigation of MPS in R/3.
What does it do, what are the Pro's and Con's and could I use MPS with LTP?

    Guy!
in MPS you will plan only the header items in and no further planning for the below levels. the idea is to create a firm plan for the header item first firm it so that no change for the firmed plan within the "Planning time fence". so you will have a definite plan for the period "PTF" so you can plan down the level using normal MRP and release the PO or schedule lines which leads to stable planning and smooth flow. if you are not fixing the plan for the higher level material then frequent change as per incoming salse orders will create unstable planning!
So MPS is used for critical assemblies with Planning time fence and fixing types
LTP is used for simulating the planning for various scenarioes with different planning versions and analysing the profitability, capacity requirement etc. and also after arriving the favourable version you can transfer to active version then you can go for either MRP or MPS.
MPS is active planning whereas LTP planning is simulation.
also in MPS you can use interactive planning and you can change the planning conditions and until it is saved it will be in system memory
    hope this helps
    Regards
    SK

  • My back/forward buttons don't work - have done 'reset toolbars and controls', but they still don't work

When I downloaded the latest version I got a new screen with the orange Firefox tab at the top. That was fine, I could find what I wanted, but back/forward buttons didn't work. I checked the help section and went right through the suggestions down to 'reset toolbars and controls' - this did reset and I lost the orange box - that doesn't matter, but the back/forward buttons still don't work.

Do you have more than one tab open? If you didn't go to another site in a single tab, then yes, the buttons will be greyed out. If you went somewhere in another tab, then those sites should be accessible by right clicking either button.
