IPv6 on internet gateway

hi,
we have 12410 GSR (PRP2) as internet gateway peering with 6 global ISP , and receive full internet routintg from them, CPU is high especaily at BGP scanner process,we are planning to enable IPv6 on this internet router so we can not expect what will happened with the performance and CPU,please advise.

Ahmed,
I do not understand what are you asking here. But if you are asking what platform I would be recommanding for a defaultless router running both a full BGP table in v4 and v6 well, I am not qualify to recommand such platform but I would recommand to start with an impementation plan. Decide wht you want to achieve and a timeline.
Also if you are running a production network, be very wary of changes.
I would rather deploy a second platfome and start using it for v6 leaving alone the v4 production network. Otherwise, you might end up disrupting service.
Cheers
Fabio

  • Internet Gateway Listed in Network Connections

Anyone know why I would have an Internet Gateway listed in Network Connections?  If I disable it I cannot access the Internet.  No other PC in my home has this, except one desktop.  Running XP.
    Thanks
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    My advise is..
If you do not have at least two game consoles behind this router, turn off UPnP in the router.
This is done in the router at Advanced -> UPnP.
    By game consoles, any two..
    #1 For example: X-box, PlayStation.
#2 A special type of computer with no keyboard or mouse. And it is usually connected to a TV.

  • Best Internet Gateway Solution

    Hi,
I have implemented ASA 5520 as the main firewall. The outside interface is connected to a cisco router and the router is connected to an ISP. I want to make my security system more secure. Which product is the best as the internet gateway solution. Which licenses are required for this one and what is the, cost for each license. Where can I find the DMZ diagram recommended by cisco ?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Mero

    Hello,
What is the cisco router doing on the outside interface? does that have a Firewall feature on ( ZBFW, CBAC).
If that is not the case I would go with the ASA as the border gateway so we can avoid malicious traffic from offending the router processes,

  • Router isn't displayed as internet gateway even though it is. no lan connection

    Hi,
Ever since I setup my new router it is not displayed in windows lan connections as Internet gateway. I can't connect to lan between my 2 comp.
    Help me please.....!

Behind the router you access the internet through Local Ares Connections, So Internet gateway is not needed to go online. About access computers through LAN make sure you have enabled File and Printer Sharing and Setup the computer names and Gateway properly.

  • Securing Internet Connection on Internet Gateway Router

    Hi,
I am looking for some suggestion as to how many different security features that should should be implemented on IOS based Internet Gateway Router.
What are the different ways hackers attack, DoS attack, Worm Attack can be prevented on IOS routers.
I know it is a broad question, but a list of essential measures on IOS would be helpful.

    Hello,
    I would recommend:
    -Stateful inspection
    -uRPF checks
    -ACL's
    -Connection limits
With that you will cover the essentials but of course as you know you need way more than a device to protect a network.

  • Fail to enable internet gateway

Hi, I am an IdeaPad S10 user.
Since yesterday I could use LAN to surf Internet and my wireless seemed to receive signals and connected.
But my internet gateway was ALWAYS disabled, even when I right clicked it and tried to enable it, it said "connected" in the popped-up window but still shown to be disabled.  And I can't open any webpage or use internet at all through wireless.
Want to ask what to do with it?  Thank you!

if you have not already then restart the laptop and if that dosent work go to the system prefences network and disconect and reconect to the network you want and that should do it

  • Separate internet gateway for a given vlan

In my scenario, I have a layer 3 switch acting as my core/root bridge/vtp server for around 30 vlans. On it I've defined the gateway of last resort to be the lan IP address of my internet firewall. I've brought in a new internet connection and new firewall that I will eventually use as a replacement. I've created a new vlan and put the new firewall in it. Before I change the gateway of last resort on my core switch to be the new firewall, is it possible for me to select a particular vlan, vlan 25 for example, and configure it to use the new firewall as its internet gateway for testing?

Not sure what firewall you have, do not do layer 3 for this vlan on the core router. Create a layer 2 link between the new firewall and the core router. Define the test vlan default gateway as a virtual IP on the firewall on the vlan say 10.100.0.1.
Then on the clientson the new vlan just point them to this 10.100.0.1 as default. on the new firewall just do a static route for 0.0.0.0 to the internet

  • WRT160N Useable as a switch/access point but not as an internet gateway?

    Greetings,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use a
WRT160N wireless N router as just a switch and wireless LAN access point and NOT as an internet Gateway?  I have a LAN that is not connected to the internet that uses a Linksys switch and I need to get a wireless access point setup so that I can attach a computer wirelessly to this LAN.    Occassionally I connect the swich to another router that does have internet access, but in general the LAN is not connected to the internet router.
    Thanks!

You can use WRT160N as a switch...Connect the LAN to the Ethernet port of the router and change the ip address of the linksys router in the range of the LAN ip.

  • Network Magic has difficulty identifying the Internet gateway

I am using a Netgear WNR854T router in a secondary position.  The primary router is a Verizon (FIOS) Actiontec.  I have given the Netgear router a static address of 192.168.1.55  and have set 192.168.1.1 (the Verizon router) as the primary gateway.  Network magic incorrectly shows the Netgear as the Internet connection.  Occasionally this will change and the Verizon router will be shown as the Internet gateway.  When this happens all of my computers (wireless and wired) will show me connected to a new network.  Is there some settings in either of these routers that I should check or change so that the Verizon router is consistently viewed as the gateway?  Internet connectivity seems to be OK no matter which router Network Magic seems to think is the gateway.  I can not address the Netgear router over the network for some reason (must physically attach it to a computer)  Thanks for any help.

Hi, is DHCP disabled on your Netgear router?
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • 10.6.1 Server - how to set up as internet gateway with dynamic IP?

    Hi,
I installed Snow leopard server 10.6 on a macpro, to share server services (address book, ical, web, mail and VPN) over my office local network, wirelessly (less than 10 computers, all macs).
I would like to set it as a gateway, as indicated on the manual "getting started", so: Internet > adsl modem > server > Time capsule/extreme (for sharing wirelessly the internet connection and all the services provided by server).
I don't have a static IP address and i don't have a DNS managed from ISP.
I tried to read many posts, discussions and apple/resources manuals, but i didn't find out the right way to fix this, with proper configuration of DNS, to keep it standing.
    Which steps should i follow?
Note: There is a thread from Singapore for setting up server without a static IP, but the configuration is: internet > DSL modem > airport > server (it's not specified how users can connect from outside the network)
i would like instead to set up the configuration explained above: internet > adsl modem > server > Time capsule/extreme
Thanks in advance for your help
    Pietro

Check out this reference material. http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/NetworkServices_Adminv10.6.pdf
It's a little lengthy and in-depth, but not terribly difficult to walk through.
    In short:
1.- pick an address range (192.168.1.1-254, for example)
2.- assign a static ip to your server (192.168.1.1)
3.- configure your server's network interface to point at your current router (adsl modem), and use your server's static ip for dns lookups
3.- turn on the dhcp service and configure a scope (192.168.1.20-254, to give you a few addresses at the bottom of the range outside the leasing scope)
4.- turn on the dns service and configure a forward and reverse lookup zone for your internal domain name (internal.yourcompany.com)
5.- configure your clients to pull addresses from dhcp
I'm sure I missed some important stuff, and don't be upset if your neighborhood gets access to your internal resources due to a misconfiguration of your routers acl's.
If you're still not clear on what to do, bring in an I.T. consultant for a short engagement to initialize and stand up all your services and show you how to support them.

  • Urgent help needed-----Internet Gateway & VPN Gateway---???---

    Hi All,
First of all apologies as I am new to Cisco.
I have 2 sites Main site routers 1 is configured for internet having IP address 10.10.10.48. 2nd router is configured for VPN on separate data link configured with bgp protocol having ip address 10.10.10.51. My LAN computers are configured with 10.10.10.48 gateway for internet access.
DR-Site have 1 router configured for internet having IP 192.168.1.48. 2nd router is configured for VPN on separate data link configured with bgp protocol having ip address 192.168.1.52. My LAN computers are configured with 192.168.1.48 gateway for internet access.
    Problem:-
if I need to connect with VPN I need to change default gateway from both ends otherwise VPN can not access network's from both ends in this case I loose internet because gateway is not there to service internet.
    How to overcome this problem.
    Thanks

Have you thought about implementing Policy Based routing to send all Internet traffic to the Internet router, and all other traffic to your VPN router? You will then have to move your client's default gateway to the 3560 by creating a SVI. Then add the routing policy to the SVI. And you would do the same at the DR.

  • Enable responses from 2 internet gateways on the same system

    Hello
I tried this question in the Tiger Networking forum but didn't get a response so I'm giving it a shot here.
I am hoping one of the network gurus here can help me out. I've spent quite a few hours trawling these forums and others online to try to find the answer to my question, but success has not been forthcoming.
My situation is this. I have a system that functions as a server that is connected to two separate internet connections. The G5 tower is hooked up to each via Ethernet. Each connection has a manually configured connection with a fixed IP. The gateways for each are using different IP ranges, the IP for en0 is 10.0.1.59 and en2's IP is 192.168.1.145. They each have different gateways configured as well, 10.0.1.1 and 192.168.1.1 respectively. 192.168.1.145 is the DMZ system for that internet connection. Here is the default entry in the system's routing table:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire
    default 10.0.1.1 UGSc 4 8 en0
I need both interfaces to reply to requests to their public IPs backthrough the correct gateway and not the default gateway. This is because of bandwidth constraints and the need to perform nightly backups of substantial amounts of data from our business hour VOIP connection, but allow the existing default gateway to remain first in the network service order list.
I have thus far tried the following based on what I could learn from this and other forums across the Web. I have enabled forwarding with the following command:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
Then I have applied a fwd rule to ipfw that purports to route requests made to the en2 local address back through the correct gateway:
sudo ipfw add fwd 192.168.1.1 ip from 192.168.1.145 to not 192.168.1.145 out
However, this does not work and there is no response from the en2 gateway when trying to access the system from that gateway's public IP.
Can anyone see something obvious that I'm missing or point me at an online resource that will let me figure out how to get this working?
    Many thanks in advance.

I sounds like what you need is a static route to the IP address of whatever is on the other end of the Retrospect request. The command would look something like this:
sudo route -n add -host host_address -gateway router_address
where host_address is the IP address of whatever the Retrospect request is going to, and router_address is the gateway you want it to go out of.
A caveat here is that the route entry does not survive a reboot, so you'd want to create a startup item, or preferably a launch daemon to do this for you automatically on startup.

I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.4 with Server 2.2.1
I am attempting to setup the server to allow connection to my internal/Private LAN
I have the source (External Internet access)  setup as #1 in the service order (en0)
and the Private network as the secondary (en4)
I followed the steps on http://macminicolo.net/mountainlionvpn and input my own IP's when needed
I am able to connect and authenticate to the vpn and able to get internet access through the vpn
unfortunatly I am unable to reach anything on my private LAN
this is my settings in my customNATRules:
    nat on en4 from 10.0.0.0/24 to any -> (en4)
pass from {lo0, 10.0.0.0/24} to any keep state
i have the sysctl.conf setup with
    net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
I also changed the com.apple in pf.anchors to reflect the instructions above
    Network Settings
(en0) My external ip is 192.168.168.4 to my firewall (not giving you my full outside)
and the DNS Server is pointing to itelf via 127.0.0.1
(en4) My Private LAN is set with the DNS to my private DNS servers
VLAN is setup with the same settings as the instructions state in the link above and I have the DNS set as 127.0.0.1

I have my DNS server configured with my local hostname with the Vlan, internal ip, and external ip pointing back to the hostname.
i have the forwarding DNS servers configured to my private DNS servers for the private lan and as the 3rd I have 8.8.8.8 for general internet
    VPN Server settings
I have the host name and shared secret set
I have 10 IP's for client addresses with the same IP segment as the VLAN
DNS settings i have routed back to the gateway of the vlan
I have one route configured  i am using in my private lan to be routed private
is there anything I am missing or setting up incorrectly?   I am struggling at this point and need some help.

  • SGE2000P - InterVLAN Routing & internet Gateway

    Hello everyone,
I've been reading articles and forum discussions for a while now, as I'm gathering information before designing any network modifications or making purchases.
Currently, we have a plain network and we are planning to 'upgrade' it a little. We want to implement VLANs to separate wireless clients, workstations + servers and infrastructure devices form each other.
As of now, we have no VLANs, and no managed Switches. We only have an RV016 that handles two ISPs and a 3rd party connection service to the office branches ( I belive they're using Frame Relay, but as far as we know, we are not concerned since we cannot touch their devices)
The reason behind the title, pointing towards the famous SGE2000P, is that my workplace is located in Argentina... and we don't have as many choices as some of you guys have ! In fact, I was unsuccessful trying to get a Cisco partner to contact me. We would like to replace the RV016 with a cisco 1941 (and a HWIC switch card).
So, back to business..! Assuming we will be using the SGE2000P switches, I was thinking about setting VLANs using 802.1Q through seven of these switches, along with a 1941 Cisco router. I'm expecting the 1941 to handle load balancing between both ISPs and the 3rd party link. Now, as for Inter VLAN routing, I would like to have gigabit traffic between VLANs. It's not imperative but it would be a nice and welcomed feature, (by the way, our current network runs at 10/100 speeds. I know, it's hard to belive, but it's the truth!).
    so, my question is...
Is it possible to use one SGE as Layer 3 mode to hande inter VLAN traffic (gigabit speeds) while using the 1941 as a end point device to reach internet (using PAT) ?
Would you suggest me to use the 1941 for Inter VLAN routing, despite the 10/100 limitation(*) and use all SGE's in L2 mode?
(*): We need two ISPs, a third link for the FR connection, and finally the LAN interface. As far as I know, I'm limited to the gigabit builtin interfaces for WAN purposes, am I right?
    Thanks in advance!
    Agustin.

Hi Agustin, the switch is capable to handle inter-vlan traffic in layer 3. The trick to make it work is to ensure the default gateway of connecting hosts to be that of the SVI they are a member of.
I would highly recommend you do not use the stack feature of these switches especially if you plan to have 7 of them. The stack implementation is kind of poor and may provide reliability issues especially in layer 3 mode.
I think it is probably better to have the switch manage most routing before it goes to the router, it should help network performance as it would aggregate the traffic.
You would need only 1 of the SGE in layer 3 mode, the rest should remain layer 2 mode unless you have a specific reason otherwise. For network performance, the other 6 switches should be layer 2.

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme to U-verse Internet Gateway: Motorola Model NVG510

I tried to set up a new network with the Airport Extreme and get no Internet connectivity from the AT&T gateway.  The Extreme network sets up fine and I can access it from all my devices, but no Internet.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mick Jones

It will only take a minute to check the Ethernet cable. Just connect it from a LAN <-> port on the Uverse gateway to  the Ethernet port on a computer. Turn off the wireless on the computer and see if you can get a good Internet connection that way.
If you can, great. You cannot, then you either have a bad Ethernet cable or the port on the gateway may not be working correctly.
Power up the AirPort Extreme for a few minutes
Then, hold in the reset button on the AirPort Extreme for 10-12 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Connect the Ethernet cable from a LAN <-> port on the Uverse gateway to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on Other WiFi Devices
    Click AirPort Extreme
The utility will open up automatically, take a minute to analyze things, then suggest that the AirPort will be configured to create a new network.  The window will look like the example below, except that you will see an AirPort Extreme instead of an AirPort Express.
Network Name......type in a short, simple name that you want to call your wireless network
Base Station Name.....type in a short, simple name that you want to use to identify the AirPort Extreme
Password......type in a password that will be used for both the Base Station and Wireless Network
    Verify the password
    Click Next
You should have a green light on the AirPort Extreme in a minute or two, and you should be able to log on to the new network and get an Internet connection.
