Hi All,
I am new here and I have a bit of an issue.
I have tried burning CD's and DVD's through windows and iTunes, and the whole process completes according to windows or iTunes, except for the fact that when it has completed, the disc is still blank
Any ideas folks?
Cheers in advance

  • Really hard to beleive but a new imac won't burn home movies on DVD?

Hi bite the bullet and bought a brand new imac (paid two times the price of a really nice PC) in hopes of owning a computer that would solve all my PC issues. Now that I have it at home I down loaded my family snow board trip from my camera and found out that it won't burn it to a DVD. What? Called tech support and yes it is true imac won't burn a DVD unless you buy ilife $49 and install it. Even the cheapest PC will burn a DVD this is really disappionting.I did see some free third party software and thought about trying it but I really hate to risk adding unauthorized software to my brand new computer. Is there hope on the way in the form of free update or is this what I get? Other than this I have enjoyed using it but this is really a major deficiency and a real disappointment.

I purchased the iLife 11 retail disk (I've seen it for as little as $25 at Amazon) because, in my opinion, there is no equivalent for iDVD's capabilities of adding pzazz to customizable menus/themes - taking your efforts from amateur to professional looking presentations.
And, it is somewhat disappointing since iMovie still has a link to send your movie to iDVD and the idea of being able to produce movies including making DVDs is now being "replaced" by trying to get you to post all your content online (in the cloud). For anyone concerned with their privacy, that is not an option; neither is it for people who may not even have a computer, but would love to be able to see the event they participated in on their TV.
I'd buy the iLife suite and also send feedback to Apple:

  • Combo drive won't burn CDs or read DVDs

My finace renectly purchased a new iBook G4 in early October, and the combo drive has never been able to burn CDs or read DVDs. Is this a common problem with iBooks? Is it a software problem or a hardware problem? How do we go about getting it fixed without Applecare? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hi, Zach. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You have found the G3 Dual USB iBook Forum, but I can help you out a bit. The warranty on the iBook gives you free phone support for any and all issues for 90 days. Use it. For full information on the warranty in plain language, check out Rachel's helpful FAQ Is phone support and warranty service free?
I recommend that your fiancée buy AppleCare. If you have any problems whatsoever with a new iBook within the first year of its eligibility, it is foolhardy to not purchase AppleCare if it is available where you live.

  • I have updated to the latest itunes, and it now won't allow me to import or burn CD's or DVD's. it says it is to do with the registry settings, and that recently added cd burning software may have something to do with it.

please help!! i've recently updated to the latest itunes version. after much hassle in doing so, it now tells me that the registry settings for importing or burning CD's/DVD's doesn't work and that i should reinstall itunes. i,ve done that from the website and from a saved position, but it doesn't work. i don't want to have to delete my library to have to start again !!!! there must be another way. it also said that it might be to do with other CD/DVD burning software, but i haven't put any on my computer that itunes didn't seem to lke before

I have the exact same issue. I havent found our what is causing it either. Multaple re-install attempts with no success. I have to use Windows Media Center to burn audio discs.  Any other advice?

  • I have imported a Digital recording onto my Macbook Pro 10.6 and want to burn it to disc on Itunes but the file has gone to Quicktime. How do I transfer it?

I have imported a digital recording on to my MacBook Pro 10.6. I want to move it to Itunes so that I can burn a CD but although I have created a new playlist, Itunes won't accept the file and instead it has gone to Quicktime and I can't transfer it or burn a CD. I have installed a Flip4Mac Upgrade but still no luck. I have managed to transfer previous files and burn CDs before so am not sure what the problem is.

This file type is not supported by iTunes. I would recommend converting the file (I use convertfiles.com, but there are many choices) to MP3. It then can be added to iTunes.

  • My backup CD won't burn...

The CD/DVD drive works alright otherwise, but my backups won't burn. The initial one did, but none since. They hang up around 20% the way through. I'm using generic blank CDs that I have to format before using. It seems the formatting process works, but the burn won't.

    Thanks.

After yesterday's near disaster backup I was confident that my Toshiba Satellite would do fine when I saw that my system was flagging me to perform a backup even though I had completed a backup less than 24 hours ago.  Anyway I complied and was so frustrated when the backup generated even more problems including that original one that my system would not complete the backup.  The backup would go to a particular place in the back up and then stop.  Even though I thought I had "discovered" the problem (see previous post) I thought that maybe something else was wrong or maybe it was just going to take some time to complete and what I thought was the system stopping was actually the system working slowly.  I admit my patience has been short with Toshiba the last couple days.  Anyway, I just left the computer performing the backup and went to bed.  When I awoke 6 hours later the backup was at exactly the same place as when I went to bed.  I tried to stop the backup but the computer hung up again trying to stop the process.  I waited 2 hours but still the system was trying to stop the backup.  Finally, I pulled the plug (really, I don't think this is very good for the system but I could not see another way.  The computer rebooted and everything seemed fine except I now could not open the CD drive.  Heck.  I literally wasted the rest of the day searching the internet for answers (learned how to open the drive with a paperclip) but could not find any reasonable answer as to why the backup would not complete and why the drive would not open or why the backup would not stop when prompted.  I tried and tried again and again to complete a backup.  Finally, I got a warning that the disc in drive was not acceptable (I do not remember the actual warning verbiage).  I did a few searches about bad discs and the only info I surmised was to start again with still another blank CD.  FINALLY I did complete a backup and without warning the disc drive began to open.  For good measure I decided to run a complete new backup.  Worked fine.  Then I wondered if it really was possible that about 10 blank CDs in a row (new out of the box) were corrupted?  I decided to run another backup.  And to my amazement, everything is completely fine. The backup was complete in under 5 minutes.  This backup was not a new complete backup just a regular backup.  Drive opened just fine.  WOW.  Now I wonder if it actually was possible that the whole problem start to finish could have been a corrupted CD (or in this case, several corrupted CDs).  Does anyone have a thought on this?

  • Both Superdrives won't burn DVDs or CDs

Hello everyone.  I'm having a serious problem.  Both of the Superdrives in my MacPro (1.1) will not burn DVDs or CDs.  They read discs just fine.  They just won't burn -- in ANY program (DVD Studio Pro, Finder, iDVD).
I have scoured the forums to answers to this problem, and NOTHING has worked.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Here is a list of things I've tried:
    Disc cleaner
    Reducing burning speed
Different DVD media.  I've tried every brand and speed out there.  Verbatim, Memorex, Sony, generics, etc.
Re-install operation system.  The issue started on Leopard.  A reinstall didn't help.  I'm not on Snow Leopard and having the same problem.
Checked connections. (all plugs are snug)
    Some thoughts:
I find it hard to believe that this is a case of bad superdrives.  They both stopped working at the same time.
I have an external firewire burner that works just fine.
Thanks for whatever help or advice you can provide!

I'm not sure if we can post links to other mac forum threads, but I found this:
    Open System Preferences.
    Click on "International"
Under "Languages": Drag any of the other languages to the top,
then drag English back to the top.
Set "Order for sorted lists" to English
Set "Word Break" to English (United States, computer)
    Close System Preferences
    Restart computer
What you can try is typing the exact phrase of the error message into google... in parentheses, and you will find a lot of hits, and maybe the answer. Good luck!
PS... I know the "fix" above sounds like nonsense, and it might be, but several claimed it worked...

  • Blu-Ray player won't burn a disc. Error Code "0"

Hi all, haven't made the jump to CC so we are using CS6 for everything.
I just recently installed a SSD and deleted/fresh install of the CS6 suite onto the newly wiped internal HD. Everything works perfect, except Encore.
Encore is refusing to burn to a DVD. I have been using CS6 since it went public and I have never once had this issue for a Blu-Ray or a DVD. Now, it won't even recognize that a disc is in the burner. It keeps saying to put in a DVD or a Blu-Ray DVD, hit OK etc. I do this, repeatedly, to no avail. Now I have tried creating a Blu-Ray Image which works perfectly fine. However I couldn't get that Image to burn succesfully to a blu-ray. Now it burnt without an issue, (using windows default burner which may be the issue), but when put into the blu-ray player it is just a black image with no menus or anything.
Back to Encore, It will trans-code the files without incident, it's when it goes to the burning session it will not accept any disc I put in. This is for both a Blu-Ray and a regular DVD. I keep getting Error Code "0" or simply, "insert a blu ray or dvd media disc an hit OK". Occasionally I got "Adobe Encore Failed" and that is it. Not sure what to do. I've been trying to burn since this morning.
I gave in and bought Nero 2015 just now in the hopes I can burn the blu-ray image correctly. Do I have any other options as this needs to be done today as I have to be an event tomorrow.
    Thank you!
    Jason

Adding to that, I am not getting the message "The Device Is Not Ready" and you can hit Retry and endless number of times with no results. Or just cancel and then it says Building Failed. Thoughts?

  • Since I updated my itunes I can't burn a disc in MP3 format.  I converted the list to MP3 but it still won't burn., Since I updated my itunes I can't burn a disc in MP3 format.  I converted the list to MP3 but it still won't burn.

Since I updated my itunes I can no longer burn a playlist to disc using MP3 format.  I clicked on converting the songs to mp3 format but they still won't burn to disc.  The computer says it is checking media and then stops.

same problem. Im using itunes version 10.6.3, I converted wavs burnt from cd, to mp3 using itunes, these were  NOT PURCHASED from itunes, and when I try to burn an mp3 cd using the new mp3 files, they convert to wavs before my eyes every time i create a new playlist of the mp3. The mp3 revert to wav within less than 30 seconds. As if itunes is saying, let me help, I substitute the higher quality 1411 wav files for you. And of course, now they wont burn to mp3, because "they must be converted to mp3 first" before burning.
But every list of the mp3 version of the files keeps reverting to 1411 wav files?
    WHats going on? Thanks

  • When I try to burn my slideshow.mov to a dvd disc, it will burn but when i put it in the dvd player it says 'disc error'. I have burned it thru iDVD before but forgot how to do it and it won't do it now. The slide show is on my desktop

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • DVD / CD's won't burn in finder

    SONY DVD RW DW-U10A
First: It doesn't acknowledge I've put a DVD in. Nothing. It keeps asking me to insert a disk.
Second: CD's won't burn in finder. They start for a couple of seconds and then they are rejected saying it's a "Power calibration area error 0x8002006D The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    - I can't find anything on that error code from Apple or Sony. I assume it can't read the disc for some reason and try a (2) cleaning discs. That didn't work.
    - Disc utitilty says all my permissions are fine and I've got the disc space.
    - I try different brands of discs - nope again (Sony, Maxell, Verbitim).
    - Then I deleted the plist, rebooted. Not it either.
    - Followed that with Onyx, deleted plist & rebooted again. Now I have to turn the power off to get it to reject. I can't delete 'untitled CD.fpbf' folder either.
    - So then I try to burn a disc in ITunes and it works, but very slowly (4X).
    - I figure the drive is starting to give out and just before I buy a new one, I sign into a guest account and guess what? It burns perfectly from finder and fast.
Now, why would a guest account make a difference?
I have no idea what to try next.
    Thx for any suggestions.

no problem. happens to a number of folks (especially people used to the earlier versions of iTunes that didn't have so many diagnostics options.)
okay ... i'd like you to check in with Dell to confirm precisely which kind of Dell you have. there's updates available for the 2400 and the 2400C, and the updates for one may not be compatible with the updates for another. i don't want you to be installing incompatible updates.
these are the two different download areas:
    Dimension 2400
    Dimension 2400C
you also appear to have three different drives showing up on the same bus address:
IDE\DiskWDCWD800BB-75CAA0_____________________16.06V16, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-STCD-ROM_GCR-8481B_______________1.06___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-STCD-RW_GCE-8483B________________B105___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [1,0]
SCSI\CdRomVO0524SEYM602D________2.0B, Bus Type SCSI, Bus Address [0,0]
... so it might be worth investigating with Dell whether or not that could be an issue on the PC. (they would be the authority on shifting bus addresses on your model of PC, if that is what is called for.)

  • Cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc,although it will read a cd

i have a compaq cq62 with windows 7 home premium with the cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc, although it will read a cd

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
Check if the drive will now burn a disc.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now able to burn a disc.

  • Yosemite won't burn CD

I have a Mac Pro (Early 2009) power house. Since I upgraded to Yosemite (10.10) it now won't burn CDs – instead the program hangs. I load the CD, it recognises it's a blank CD, drag and drop the files, hit burn then nothing! I can't eject CDs in the usual way as it says a program is currently being used. Now that I have removed the CDs I am left with Alias folders that I cannot delete/remove.
My Mac Pro has two drives attached; my internal superdrive and an external Firewire 52x CD-R and it happens to both which eliminates the fact it's a hardware issue.
I bought in my MacBook Pro (Early 2011), also running Yosemite 10.10, and all is well. Burn CDs in the usual way.
    Is there a patch?

Ignore Alias folders. They were locked. Unlocked and deleted. (Doh!)
