IQ524 operating system restoration questions

I restored the IQ524 from it's partition at the day facility last month. It comes up as Vista. Before there was a free upgrade of Windows 7 on the hard drive. I looked on the support site everywhere but can't find it anymore. How could I get back to win 7 again plz?
This question was solved.

Here are the specs for the HP TouchSmart IQ524 Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped from the factory with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit installed. HP's Free Upgrade to Microsoft Windows 7 was available for HP's computer sold between late June 2009 and mid January 2010. If this offer was used, there would a "Windows 7 Upgrade disc, a HP Upgrade Assistant disc, and a "UPG Fullfil HP" sleeve with COA and WIndows product key. You will need to locate these physical resource to upgrade the IQ524 to Windows 7 using the free upgade.

  • HELP please! X61 Vista operation system restore

I bought an x61 notebook with Vista Home Basic operating system last August. I replaced the original operation system with XP, and it was working fine for a year. But I reinstall the XP operating system today, but all USB hubs don’t work, as well as internet, dock station. I think I already install the appropriate drivers. They are all the same drivers I used last year. What should I do? I still have a hidden restore partition on my computer. Is there any way to get my Vista operation system back? Thanks a lot!!

    Hi yimeiwang,
Updating Win XP to SP3 might resolve USB hubs issue. Further, installing lenovo drivers is a two step process namely extraction of the file to a location the first setup file chooses [by default typically C:\Drivers\..] and secondly going to that location and running the actual driver's setup. An year is a long time to forget this.
    Hope it helps.

  • How do I get my iTunes back after doing a operating system restore?

I recently had to restore my operating system and redownload iTunes. All of my music files were backed up but I was wondering if there was a way to restore my entire iTunes library instead of tediously add files and folders to library? And will this using a new iTunes effect my iPhone in any way? Thanks for help!

Ideally you would have backed up your entire user folder before resting the operating system so that you would ahve access to all the data & documents from your old system. If you have the complete iTunes folder backed up restore it to <User>/Music/iTunes before you install iTunes. If you've already installed iTunes and have an empty there their delete that first before restoring the original. If you only backed up the media then, you will have to import this into a new library and you run the risk of losing information from your iPhone. See  Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for details and workarounds.

  • Please help me- system restore question- lost file

If someone could help me with this because that would be great. i I was writing my midterm paper on microsoft word and i accedently saved new work over my old without realizing it. So now I I lost my original copy. I know when I had windows I could do a system restore and some of my files would come back. Is there anyway to do this on my mac? I feel sick over this because I have spent countless hours on this paper. Please help

Are you saying that you are not using Time Machine? Or are you asking how to get back the older file using TM?

  • System restore questions

    I'm with a HP Pavilion dv3-2150us
Originally shipped with Vista, and I got a free upgrade to windows 7 when it came out.
Now the computer is some years old, slowed down and a little crabby. I thought about restoring it,
starting with a fresh OS, surely it will make things work more smoothly. My questions are these:
    1) If  I run a factory restore - will I still have the recovery partition available? As I understand it format the hard drives - but does it keep the recovery files for a future recovery?
2)I guess it will recover the computer back to Vista. Is there a smart way to recover it straight back to WIN7? I Think I can find the upgrade disk  got in the mail. Or am I forces to restore to vista and then upgrade again?
3)Will I need any Vista/Win7 activation keys to do this whole thing? Any other programs will need to be re-installed, but I am not sure I ever had an activation key for windows as it came with the computer.
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
Your Recovery Discs will return the notebook to it's factory condition ( ie with the Four Primary Partitions you have now ), no matter how you have partitioned the HDD in the meantime - in fact, when using the discs, there is no way to avoid this which is why it's important to back-up the content of any custom partitions as they will be erased by the recovery process.

  • Operating System Upgrade Question: 10.2.8 to !0.3+

    I have a Power PC G4 (AGP graphics),450MHz, partitioned
hard drive, 9.2.2 on one, 10.2.8 (6R73) on other partition.
DSL with Modem>A.P.BaseStation, dual Ethernet and a
    wireless network set up.
I want to do a total disk erase, no partitions, and
install 10.3+. I am about to purchase the 10.3 installation
    c.d.'s from Apple Rescue.
Need to know: Can I eliminate totally Mac OS 9.2.2?
More specifically, only install 10.3 on the G4?
Would having 10.3 only have any type problem I may
    not be aware of?
I am reluctant also to disconect my A.P. Base Station
as doing so last time I did erase and install, the
Base Station had to be re-set to default, would like
    to avoid that.
I appreciate any and all suggestions and comments,

Thank You for your reply. Apple Rescue, also has
a c.d. that contains the combo update for 10.3.9
the c.d. also has other things as well.
I will need a firmware upgrade for the Base Station.
Already have the firmware chart bookmarked.
H.P. Printer, prob. will need a new driver.
I asked about this because I had read so many
other posts that seemed to encourage others to
keep OS 9.2.2 on. I never use it, never use classic,
not having it will free up some H.D. space.

  • Windows don't start after System restore

    Hi. I have a Pavilion dv7 6195-US bought 3 years ago.
    I have 2 HDD x 500GB.
There was also a partition with the system restore to factory OS, but I don't remember what I've done and didn't recognized by HP Recovery Manager, anyway, the information is safe...I mean "base.wim".
For some reasons, I had to formatted and reinstall the windows.
I backup all my information from my laptop. INCLUDING the image factory: base.wim and the I try to reinstall my windows.
For this point I found 2 ways on the internet:
1: there are 6 steps ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Another-System-Restore-question... ) but instead of connecting my hard to another PC, I use the second of my HDD to install a random win7 and to do the 6 steps. I do the exact what is there, BUT after the step 6 and restart my laptop... basically it's stop at the point with "starting Windows and Logo"... If I remember for the first time when I opened, it supose to appear a welcome screen after that...but nothing... just freeze image.
Anyway, I don't know WHY or WHAT I got wrong... I try another way:
2: Here is the stept that i follow but even here nothing happend ( http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2243985 )
Please help me out how to figure out a way to restore my factory windows on a formatted HDD.
There is no problem with my base.wim, I restore it ok with image.exe.... but the only problem is after the restart of my laptop and basicaly start windows for the first time... doesn't work.
Maybe is because of my partition type or what? Can anyone give me some clear ways to do that.
    Thanks a lot !
Later edit: I don't remember wich of this 2 ways I try, but after restart seems to work until a grey background appear, ans a cmd start with "startnet.cmd"...then a text 2 seconds, but then restart... and that's it... seems like a problem of restoring windows to factory?

  • HELP! How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
    Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.
    http://www.twocanoes.com/
Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
    OS X
    Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine

There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays.

  • NO REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE ON BLACKBERRY PROTECT ON BB10 OPERATING SYSTEM --- READ THIS POST

    Dear BlackBerry,
First of all I would like to establish that I am a very loyal customer of BlackBerry, so anything that I will say in this letter is because of the personal concerns shared by me and millions of loyal BlackBerry customers.
BlackBerry have launched the new BlackBerry Classic Q20 phone.
Apart from the reintroduction of the Navigation and Track pad that is above the physical keyboard and slightly bigger size.
What are the real differences between this new BlackBerry Classic Q20   and the BlackBerry Q10 ?
The main issues and concerns are that BlackBerry have reduced and in fact left out several features on the BlackBerry 10 operating system, for which was available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, such as on the BlackBerry Bold 9900.
Some features may not be vital or important, but other features were vital and important and by BlackBerry leaving out these vital features, it beckons the question as to why are BlackBerry limiting the software functions and capabilities of the BlackBerry 10 operating system as to what the BlackBerry 7 operating system has in place.
Do not misunderstand me in what I am saying, BlackBerry is still the best in what it does and I love the product. And the BlackBerry 10 operating system does have features and functions that the BlackBerry 7 operation system does not have.
But the whole point of improvement is that BlackBerry keep the best and vital functions that are available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system and actually include those features and functions in to the BlackBerry 10 operating system. That would make sense and move forward.
There are two vital features and functions that I will now mention that are available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but was left out of the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Firstly, there is a feature on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, called   "SELECT ALL"
This feature allowed the user to go in to their,  photos or pictures or videos or music or documents or phone contacts folders and if the user wished to share all of those items in that particular folder to another phone device with Bluetooth or a computer with Bluetooth, or to delete all of the items in one go within that folder, then the user would not need to manually click on each item within that folder, which is time consuming especially if there may be in excess of one hundred items in each folder or more than one hundred phone contacts within the contacts folder, where the user needs to now manually click on each item using the "Select More" feature that is the available feature on the BlackBerry 10 operating system and is very time consuming.
But within the BlackBerry 7 operating system there is the feature and function that is called   "SELECT ALL"
This feature allows the user to "select all" of the individual items within the folder of their choice or the phone contacts folder, with just one click and be able to either delete all of these items or to share transfer all of these items to another device or computer that has Bluetooth.
Can BlackBerry bring this feature to the BlackBerry 10 operating system as an update as soon as possible ?
The next feature and function that was on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but was deliberately not included in the BlackBerry 10 operating system is the >
Remote Back Up   and   Remote Restore     on the  BlackBerry Protect.
This cloud back up and restore feature was vital and in the history of BlackBerry with Blackberry's advanced encryption and security, this cloud back up and restore feature was always safe and the security and protection of data being backed up and restored to and from Blackberry's cloud has NEVER been compromised or hacked or accessed in any way what so ever by anyone. And this made Blackberry's reputation for security number one and gave the loyal BlackBerry customers even more confidence in the BlackBerry product.
Now I will go in to detail why it is vital that BlackBerry must include and introduce this feature that is available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but it is not available on the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Firstly, the current BlackBerry protect that is available on the BlackBerry 10, has some lovely fancy features, such as remote locating of the phone and remote wiping of the phone, should it ever be lost or stolen.
The fact is, this is a good feature, but if the phone was lost forever or indeed stolen, then that's it, the device data is also lost forever and the only data that would be accessible to restore on to a new BlackBerry 10 operating system device, would be what ever the last back up that was available that was made using BlackBerry Link on the computer.
Now, doing a phone back up on BlackBerry Link on the computer, is all very well and good, but there are many limitations to this.
    Firstly,
if the owner of a BlackBerry 10 operating system device was to be at home or in the office and connect their BlackBerry 10 device to their computer to BlackBerry Link and do a full device Back Up. Then that device is now only Backed Up at that point and is only Backed Up to date at that moment.
Now imagine after that Back Up was made, the computer in which BlackBerry Link is installed on and the Back Up was made, imagine the situation where that computer broke and all the saved data was lost or destroyed for ever or that computer that had the BlackBerry Link backed up data was stolen and never recovered ? Then everything that was backed up from the BlackBerry 10 operating system device to that particular computer using BlackBerry Link, would now be lost for ever. Which means that the Back Up that was made using BlackBerry Link is pointless in this above situation.
    Second Example,
This next example is even more realistic and is vital in my argument for the Remote Back Up and Remote Restore.
Imagine for example it is a day that you decide to do a full phone Back Up of your BlackBerry 10 operating system device on your computer using BlackBerry Link. Everything is now Backed Up only on that computer and is only up to date at that moment.
Then later that day, you need to travel to another town or city or state or country, for what ever reason and you may be away for a day or several days or weeks.
While you are away, the computer that you used to make the last full Back Up using BlackBerry Link, is at your home or in your office, hundreds or thousands of miles away from where you are with your BlackBerry 10 device.
While you are away, you input new contact details or new calendar schedule entries or new memo notes or new reminders or all of these above vital entries in to your phone.
You do this the next day when you leave and then throughout your business or personal vacation, you continue to input vital information in to your BlackBerry 10 operating system device, such as new contacts, new or amended calendar entries, new memos, new tasks. All the vital information that you need stored safely and secure.
Then your BlackBerry 10 operating system device is either lost or destroyed or stolen. But whichever, it is now gone for ever and all of the NEW vital information that you have in putted in to your BlackBerry 10 operating system device since the last full Back Up that was made using BlackBerry Link on the computer that is hundreds or thousands of miles away, has now been lost for ever.
What is the point in in putting any new data or information in to your BlackBerry 10 device if a situation as mentioned above was to happen ?
Where is the benefit of only the BlackBerry Link Back Up in this above situation ?
Now if the device was a BlackBerry 7 operating system device such as the BlackBerry Bold 9900, then if the above situation was to happen, if you was away from your home or office since the last full Back Up of your device was made on a computer.
If you were hundreds or thousands of miles away and whilst you was away on vacation you need entered new contact details or new memos or new reminders or new calendar entries or amendments in to your BlackBerry 7 device. Then you can immediately after in putting these new items of information and data in to your BlackBerry 7 device, you can do a Remote Back Up  to the BlackBerry Cloud   using any connected wireless network or your mobile phone network using your data that is on your sim card to do this Remote Back Up.
Then if after this Remote Back Up was done, if the BlackBerry 7 device was lost or stolen or destroyed, then you could simply go and purchase another BlackBerry 7 operating system device and input your primary email address that was used to register the previous BlackBerry 7 device, in to the new BlackBerry 7 device and then once set up, then open up BlackBerry Protect and click on Restore and select the last saved cloud Back Up and then all of the data that you last Backed Up over BlackBerry Protect Cloud is now installed on to your newly purchased BlackBerry 7 operating system device.
This was a vital feature for total security and peace of mind of all BlackBerry users.
All BlackBerry users do NOT want to download any third party application that makes claims to offering this service as any third party application is NOT reliable and NOT safe and NOT secure.
Only the Remote Back Up and Remote Restore on the BlackBerry cloud that is available on BlackBerry Protect on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, is the only proved secure cloud back up for BlackBerry and actually works precisely and is totally safe and secure.
So I now ask the question to BlackBerry,
Why is this vital  Remote Back Up and Remote Restore feature of BlackBerry Protect that is available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, is not on the BlackBerry 10 operating system ?
Will BlackBerry please listen to its loyal customers and please introduce the two above mentioned features as an update to the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
These above two mentioned functions and features are vital and it's what millions of loyal BlackBerry customers want installed on their BlackBerry 10 devices.
Please can someone at BlackBerry please come back to me and tell me if these above two features will be introduced to the BlackBerry 10 operating system as an update or download ?  As its what we all want back.
    Thank You.

Ditto on both points. Meanwhile I use the solution of a third party backup.

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.

  • How can I restore my iPhone 3Gs after I tried to update to the new operating system.

I tried to upgrade my 3Gs to the new operating system(IOS5) and I got some kind of unknown error.  I told iTunes to do the back up before doing the upgrade.  The phone is stuck in restore mode with the "connect to iTunes" logo displayed.
I have the latest version of iTunes on my computer. I've restarted my computer.  The iTunes doesnt seem to see the iPhone, but when I connect the phone to the computer I hear the recognition jingle by the comoputer, the one you hear when when a piece of equipment is connected to the computer.  In addition, when i look at "my computer"  I dont see the iPhone in the selections of items connected to the computer.
I have tried all the reset proceducures with turning the phone off and using the home key.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Hello,
That means it can find the Hard Drive, or can't find the things needed for booting.
See if DU even sees it.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
