IQ804 hangs for 3 min 30 seconds every once in a while.

I've been having trouble with my touchsmart IQ804 which I just got.  It had windows vista on it and it appeared to freeze a lot.  I updated Vista - nada -  I did the firmware patch for the hard drive. nada....
I upgraded to Windows 7 - same thing....  then I realized that it seemed to come back if I left it.  Then I decided to time it and it appears to be always 3 min 30 seconds that it hangs.  And sometimes it freezes altogether.  Memory & HDD & CPU checks come out OK.
ideas?
thanks

Change your Virtual Memory settings to 6500 min and 9000 max, delete almost everything that is HP Media. The Touch screen will still work, with the extra virtual memory available and all the crap apps gone that will hang the system, you'll see a big difference. I am on Win7 Home Pro, x64bit. Also a great program I use that did wonders for the hard drive and cleaned up the registry plus gives additional memory optimization is the iobit Advanced System Care program which is a free download at www.iobit.com

  • RMBP - external screen turns black for a few seconds every once in a while

My external screen (Dell U2711) connected via Thunderbolt to Displayport cable turns black every once in a while. The rMBP is in clamshell mode. When it starts it randomly blackens the screen for 2 seconds with an interval of 10 seconds to 5 minutes. A restart usually fixes the issue but it keeps coming back after some time.
Has anybody here experienced something similar?
What can be the cause of that?
This really starts to annoy me, because it seems I have to do reboot everytime I connect my laptop to my screen.

Never had the sort of problem - but then I've an Apple Thunderbolt Display and it just 'works'.
Could be that you're adapter is shot. You could buy a (or some) new ones from Monoprice (much cheaper than what Apple's third-party solutions sell for) and see if that's the problem.
Sorry I can't offer a more helpful solution...

  • Scrollbars turns black and OS hangs for a second every half a minute

    Hi,
For a few weeks I've been having this very annoying bug where suddenly all apps scrollbars turns black and the mouse/keyboard hangs for a few second then they reappears and mouse/keyboard are working again.
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like when scrollbars are going black:
    http://i.imgur.com/Uk1rXse.png
At first it was doing it about 1 time every 5 minutes but now it has become literally unworkable as it hangs every 20-30 seconds.
I tried killing all the active processes (apps) to see if it would fix the problem but no luck it still hangs very often.
Any ideas or suggestions about that?
FYI: I'm using a multi-monitor setup just in case that could help figure out what's happening.
Thanks and have a nice day.

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • Apple TV music playback skips a second every once and a while

Audio playback on my Apple TV has been having very quick delays, maybe half a second, then continues playing. It's pretty random but getting very annoying. Anyone had a similar issue?

Yes, has happened randomly for me for over a year on at least 2 AppleTVs.
Usually happens when watching video/music videos, the audio briefly drops out but video is unaffected. Also can happen with music occasionally. Do you see it with video?
I'm not convinced it's a network issue though can't entirely discount that,as my router occasionally hangs, but I think it's often a case of AppleTV struggling to do all playback/background tasks from time to time, maxing out cpu usage, and audio being affected somehow.
Some users have found it doesn't seem to happen if iTunes is closed, raising the possibility of some non-playback/streaming related communication process affecting the AppleTV. Some have found unchecking 'Look for AppleTV's' in iTunes has helped.
Lastly, it may be a sign of early hardware failure, most likely logic board or hard drive. One of mine that regularly did this eventually gave up the ghost.

  • MBP hangs for 30 seconds and I've tried everything

I have been trying to fix my girlfriends laptop by going through the forums but I have reached a dead end.
She said that one day, she put her mbp to sleep and when she took it out later, it was overheating and still awake, with iTunes open. Since then, the computer will hang for 30 seconds every minute or two, depending on how demanding you use the apps.
During a hang, Activity Monitor shows no spikes in CPU, memory or Disk Usage, the mouse moves and becomes a beach ball if you click a bunch, and happens with any App, including Finder. When using Chrome, Mac asks if you would like to "kill the page" or "wait" which only shows for a few seconds before eveything returns to normal again (about 30s).
    Things I have tried:
    Sleep, Restart, Shutdown
Disk / Permissions Repairs (Disk OK, Permissions show "harmless" things according to the forums)
    SMC/PRAM Resets, System Diagnostics
Lion Clean Install, Mavericks Clean install, booting from Recovery HD and a USB
Dusting the inside of the laptop, refitting RAM, physically detaching the battery
After all this, the issue still exists. Booting from the Recovery HD and USB I still experienced the hangs, so that led me to believe that the issue can't be the hard drive. I also heard that CPUs have protective mechanisms to keep themselves, and if RAM or video cards fail you won't be able to see anything.
If you have any ideas as to what could be the problem, please let me know. Thanks.

I also wanted to mention the hangs would also occur during OSX installations, and processes such as booting, shutting down, Disk Repairs and Permissions Repairs or OSX Reinstallation took 10-20x longer than estimated by the process (for ex. if it says 3 hours remaining It could take 24 hours to complete)
I will bring in the laptop soon to a Genius Bar, but I need to have the computer on me for the next week and don't want to pay a bunch of money to get it fixed just yet, since it's not covered by warranty.

2013 MBP 2.5 i5 4Gig 500MBHDD boots slow.  It finishes post in the same time as an identical MBP, and then hangs for 30 seconds on one of the ethernet adapters, before finishing the boot.  Once booted it is normal.   Turning off airport changes nothing.  Hardline adapter is not plugged in.  Thunderbolt adapter is not used.  Bluetooth is off.  Did this out of box.  Identical MBP boots to login screen in 36 seconds.  Disk repair, permission repair, and safe mode boot have
already been done, no change.  Boot time is consistent.  Hangs at the same place each time.  Right after post.  Bad adapter?
    Comments, solutions please.

... and so ... now a few days later, success.   I ran
your software but it told me nothing I hadn 't seen
    in verbose boot.
Consistently, following good post, the boot hung
for 30 seconds on the adapters, (cards, chips, NICs.
Ethernet cards, whatever you prefer to call them)
either the airport card or the hard line.  It would then
proceed at normal pace to the login screen.
Since it came out of the box that way, software
conflict was not a go.  I guessed glitched driver or
fetch instruction.  I zapped the PRAM (cleared
NVRAM) and reloaded the OS, updates, Garage Band,
iPhoto (one of Apple's true dogs in an otherwise
rare arena) iMovie, Photoshop, Lightroom, their
updates, and my files.   MBP pro now boots to login
in 31 seconds.  Note I have turned off as much gee
whiz, rubber band scroll, global swiping and other
hubcaps and hood ornaments as befits how like
things ... and turned off all the Asian and other fonts
    I will. ever use.
Best guess ... corrupt driver or corrupt fetch script ...
bad server squirt at factory load.
    Thanks for your help, Cheers!

  • Close() over NFS hangs for 15 seconds on NAS 5320

Summary: We are experiencing long pauses waiting for files to close on NAS 5320.
    Hardware:
    NFS Server: 5320 NAS S/N ST5320200609190020 Version 4.20 M0 (Build 78)
    NFS Clients: SunOS 5.10 Generic_118833-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240
    SunOS mnemo 5.6 Generic_105181-20 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4
(Various other Solaris & Linux clients)
    Symptom:
User copies a tiny file using "cp". The "cp" program hangs for 15 seconds before
normal exit and successful completion. Running "truss" on the "cp" command
reveals that the copy happens nearly instantaneously, and the program goes into
a sleep state waiting for the close() of the output file.
The problem is reproducible regardless of whether the filesystem is NFS hard
mounted or automounted. The problem seems to occur most often if the output
file being written previously existed under the same name, was recently deleted,
and is being recreated by the copy operation.
The problem is reproducible from every NFS client I've tried, both Solaris and Linux.
The problem is only exhibited for filesystems served by the NAS 5320.
Here's a typical truss output exhibiting the behavior. The 15-second hang occurs
after truss prints the line that says "close(4) (sleeping...)":

Using the thin driver to connect to Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 7, every several hundred operations or so will hang for 60 seconds. A stack trace will reveal it is hung on "socket.read()", most frequently when it is trying to close a Statement but not exclusively. After 60 seconds, or if another database operation on a different connection proceeds, it will wake up and continue until the next freeze. This problem occurs with jdk1.2.2 and jdk1.3 (Sun VMs), several different versions of the thin driver (tried classes111.zip, classes12.zip, classes102.zip, downloaded the most recent the other day), and will happen from a remote server or on localhost. A patch upgrade the other day to 8.1.6 seemed to make the problem less frequent but it persists.

  • I hooked up mine and finally got it to work but every once in a while my web browser get stuck.  how di fix this?

i hooked up mine airport and finally got it to work but every once in a while my web browser gets stuck.  how di fi?

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • Flash games freeze for some seconds every some minutes

I just had a stupid moment and upgraded from Firefox 22 to 30 yesterday. I know every version adds problems and removes features, but I wanted check what is the current status.
Now, Firefox 30 freezes flash games for some seconds every some minutes. Of course, with the 22 this never happened.
The computer is identical, only Firefox is changed.
Considering the level of the answers here, I in advance say:
    * no there are no viruses or malwares - I said only Firefox is changed
    * yes I cleared cache cookies and other stuff people say when they do not know what else to say
    * yes flash is the same version
    * I have no theme and the addons are the same of the old version
    * I could care less about safe mode. The old version never saw safe mode and it worked fine
Maybe there is some stupid about config setting for which Firefox want an useless disk access? something new in the version 30 I mean.
Maybe version 30 is become so inefficient that when it updates the cache it freezes totally?
I have last faint hope for some real practical suggestion, for which I thank in advance.
With FF 22 I could play flash games for hours without problems, with v 30 I need to close it every hour otherwise it takes so much RAM (up to 2 GB) it totally hangs. But hey they removed the download window, they say "use an addon". When the RAM is totally out, they say "you have too many addons". Wonder why. Next time we will need an addon for supporting images?

    Hi zzzz1,
This is a really good question. It has been a while since I have tried version 22, but you have mentioned most of the recommended troubleshooting steps including: malware, clearing cache(offline), updating flash, safe mode and no new add ons.
I wonder if the new version has different system requirements.
    [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/22.0/system-requirements/ version 22][https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/30.0/system-requirements/ version 30]- No.
There are add ons that optimize cache size and block flash content, as well as Ad block plus which blocks some scripts running in the browser. These could minimize the 2GB of Ram.
In all practicality, have you tried reinstalling Flash or clearing the actual flash cache. This may mess with online game storage though, so maybe not.

I just built this computer...my first build in about ten years.
the motherboard hangs up at code A2 every once in a while. 4 out of 10 reboots it wont post and gets stuck at A2..... if it makes it past that it works fine.
I searched and that code appears to be SATA related. I swapped sata cables, no effect.. I'm using the cables that came with the Mpower mobo.
    Computer spec:
    MSI MPOWER Z87
    i7 4770K processor
    2x Crucial Ballistix Tactical 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 8 Dual Channel Kit 1866 (PC3 15000)
1X MSI 760 Hawk graphics card.
    1XCrucial M500 240GB 2.5-inch Internal SSD MU03
    V700 coolermaster supply.
windows 8.1 pro (bit locker is off)

    I've already swapped cables....
I've got a better handle on the symptom. and its very repeatable.
It only posts when I use the reset button.
A power on or reboot from windows will hang it at A2.
it wasn't doing this when I first built it... but I installed a bunch of drivers. for the mobo and the video card.
For the mainboard drivers, using Live Update or did you download and install them manually?

  • ODBC Data source administrator hanging for 20 seconds

After installing 32 bit ODAC 11.2 Release 5 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio (11.2.0.3.20) our business is reporting slow Excel/VBA code using ODBC.
The business are querying using a ODBC System DSN. It works but hangs for 20 second when VBA releases the connection.
I can see that I get the same pause after testing the connection in the "ODBC Data Source administrator"
    1. Open ODBC Data Source administrator
    2. Edit the System DSN
    3. Push "Test Conncetion". Says "Connection succesful". Push OK
    4. Push "OK"
ODBC Data Source administrator now hangs for 20 seconds.
I did a clean installation on a Win7 x64 machine using 32 bit ODBC Data Source administrator
Nothing to find in the eventlog.
Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Udpate: I tracked it down to Microsoft ISA Firewall Client installation. If I uninstall the ISA Firewall the problem disappears.
Only disabling the ISA Firewall doesn't help!
Other have reported the same behaviour https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/microsoft.public.isa.clients/F14GNANHppA
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Acpi_pci_root_init hangs for seven seconds at boot: why?

    EDIT:
I just find out where's the problem, but I don't know why it shows up and I don't know what it means.
Basically my system hangs up here for seven seconds (or so) and I wish to understand the reason(s).

    Original Message:
So, everything started when I tried systemd-analyze to reduce my boot time.
Long story short, after various try I used bootchart to have this:
    http://s1.postimage.org/5ousetq25/bootchart.png
The process named acpi_pci_root_init (sadly I have almost no experience with this side of my PC) seems to hang for seven seconds.
I already tried to see if something's wrong with dmesg, but as I stated I've got almost no experience with this.
May someone help me to find an answer?

I have figured out how to solve part of the problem. It was completely Xorg related, as you can see from the Xorg.0.log. I removed nouveau and installed Nvidia proprietary driver, in this way X doesn't timeout anymore but now I still have a problem with the time it takes X to start up. As you can see from these lines:
[ 20.141] (II) The server relies on udev to provide the list of input devices.
If no devices become available, reconfigure udev or disable AutoAddDevices.

There is quite a jump in the timestamps just where an error related with logind occurs. Is it normal or I have a problem? BTW, Xorg doesn't timeout anymore it seems.
Is there anyone who can help me? Maybe I have simply posted in the wrong section of the forum?

  • ITunes hangs for 15 seconds at the start of songs

    Hi,
My iTunes is hanging for 15 seconds at the beginning of songs and videos, and is driving us crazy. It seems to hunt around for something, but have no idea what. iTunes is on an internal hard drive. For some reason this doesn't happen when I run the files through Apple TV. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    hi,
according to your profile, you're running OS X 10.5.4. if that is correct, get the 10.5.8 combo updater from here http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate.
repair premissions using *disk utility* before and after running the installer. next, check *software update* from the  menu and install any updates offered.
if you +just didn't update+ your profile, try *removing iTunes completely* (click here and follow the instructions), then download the current version from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
also, check if you have read & write permissions for your iTunes music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access. if this doesn't help, try the same on your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder).
    please post back with results.

  • Apple TV 2 picture goes black for a second every now and again

Apple TV 2 picture goes black for no aparent reason, just for a second every now and again, no Jailbreak, software is  up to date.
Happens witth the iOS 6 and the one before, not shure about previous iOS versions.
It´s not the Cable, Wifi or Lan.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)
