Iris Pro vs. GT 750M in the 21.5" iMac - in Plain English please

Hey!
I'm about to go Mac at the office.
I was gearing up to make the purchase then I see there is yet another choice to make...
Iris Pro vs. GT 750M
I've read a bit on forums but it all seems way beyond my techie abilities.
So in plain english will I notice a difference if I get the cheaper model?
We mainly work with of Microsoft Office, internet apps and occasional Adobe stuff.
I've found my Macbook Pro 2012 perfect fast for most of my tasks.
Thanks!

Iris pro is basic "good enough to get the job done" hardware to run the display. Its part of the CPU and does very poorly with 3D rendering.
750M is an actual separate graphics processor with its own dedicated memory and the power to animate 3D graphics at full speed.
If your Macbook Pro feels "fast enough" for you, the Iris will be "good enough" as well.

  • Newbie question: how do you reset the router; in plain English please

I need some help in plain English please.  The router stopped working and maybe just needs a reset.  I tried reading http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ios-nx-os-software/ios-software-releases-123-mainline/46509-factory-default.html, but I don't understand the first thing.  It's a Linksys E2500.  Is this even the right forum?

You are reading a Nexus IOS guide. Nexus is a carrier grade switch so don't mind that. Try this instead.

  • Is Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB the same as NVIDIA GeForce in Macbook Pro Retina?

I bought the Macbook Pro with the dedicated graphics card, which should be a NVIDIA but when I look at the system profile it shows Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, Is this the same thing?

The higher end MacBook Pros have both the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB, and the NVIDIA GeForce. The Iris pro is integrated into the CPU, and the NVIDIA is a separate graphics card. By default, it will switch between the two graphics cards based on your computer's demands at the moment. It will use the Iris to save power, and the NVIDIA for better performance. The one it is showing you in that About this Mac page is the one it is using at that moment. Open an application like Photoshop, plug in a monitor, or run some graphic intense processes, and then click about this mac, and you will see that it has changed. You can disable this, and make it always use the faster graphics card by going into System Preferences > Energy Saver and then uncheck automatic graphics switching. This will use more power, though, and the performance increase will be minimal.

  • Iris Pro 1024 capabilities

I just received a late model (2013) Macbook Pro w/ Retina 15"as a gift. Either due to confusion of my relative, or miscommunication via the salesman, I have a base model with only the Iris Pro 1024 graphics card. The only information I have been able to find on what it is capable of doing/being used for, is for video editing. As there is no other graphics card, I'd imagine any game play would problematic or am I wrong in thinking that? I am not familiar with this model of graphics card, and am new to Mac hardware and software. So what is the Iris Pro capable of doing and can I use Steam Play or older games on this unit?

your model has an Intel Iris Pro 5200 if it is the late 2013 15" 2.0 GHz model

  • Which graphic card is best for running illustrator (an Intel Iris Pro or Nvedia)?

I am thinking on buying a new machine for carrying on my job. Uptill now i was working on windows with an iGPU and i was facing problems in rendering effects or generating previews in Adobe Illustrator. Now i am looking for a good dedicated GPU which can easily take its load. I do moderately heavy works (average file size 150mb).

No, its not a dedicated GPU. But still will it able to do the job? i am thinking of buying a 15" macbook.
The 15"retina version has these three options for graphics
    -Intel iris graphics
    -intel Iris pro graphics
-intel iris pro graphics + nvidia GeForce GT750m
The later two are kinda out of budget and i also think that these are way more than what i be actually needing. So, will Intel iris graphic be fine or i should look for some other machine (Dell or ASUS) with NVIDIA graphics since apple has no options for NVIDIA in lower versions.

  • Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, is it worth paying an extra $200?

Software support of graphics card is key.   If no graphics card is mentioned in software specs, then it can be ignored.  Mostly games and high end image and video graphics software are affected.

  • Does the 15" 2014 GT 750M model drain battery faster than the iris pro version?

I can't decide between the 750M model or the iris pro model. I've heard the GT 750M is not worth the additional price
as it drains the battery much quicker, is this true?

The 15-inch MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M also comes with an Intel GPU, which is the same GPU as the model without the NVIDIA GPU.
This means that the battery life will be the same in both models with tasks that do not require higher GPU performance (home tasks). The NVIDIA GPU is enabled when you need more performance, so you do not need to worry about that. However, as the NVIDIA GPU is more powerful, it needs more power, reducing the battery life when it is being used

  • Is the Intel Iris Pro in the new 15" rMBP sufficient for my needs?

Greetings all! Long time reader, first time poster here
I've been holding off purchasing a new machine until the new rMBP models were released, and...here they are finally!
My goal here is to find out if the integrated GPU (15" rMBP) is going to be good enough for my usage pattern, versus spending the extra money and getting the model with the GeForce GT 750m GPU. I work as a Web Developer primarily; with some iOS/Android dev on the side (xCode & Eclipse mainly). Photoshop use is a daily occurance, but I don't do anything overly technical with it...mainly just chopping up PSD's for front-end web dev.
The reason i'm curious about the GPU is because of the light gaming I plan on doing. I plan on selling off my current MBP(2010) and also getting rid of my windows desktop that is used solely for gaming. The only games I play, and the only ones I will be playing for the forseeable future are World of Warcraft and some Diablo 3 perhaps. I'm not expecting top tier performance, i'm not expecting it rival the graphics performance of my desktop. Will I lose graphics power if I choose the entry level model that was just released today, when compared to the entry level 15" rMBP that has been on the market up until now? If so, is the difference negligible? I'm 100% on board for the Crystalwell processor, so I need to make sure that I get enough GPU power for my WoW addiction ^_^
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks a ton!
    ~Steve

WoW and D3 should run very well with the integrated Intel Iris Pro 5200 (rMBP 15")...:

Does anyone know how well the Intel Iris Pro installed on new 15" MacBook Pros performs using Photoshop and Lightroom?  I have seen some differing opinions out there, and I would rather not shell out the extra cash for the Nvidia if I don't have to. I mostly do photo editing for business and personal use. I have not used the 3D function in Photoshop, but I would like to know that I could.

  • Intel Iris Pro GPU in new Macbook Pros supported by the Mercury Playback Engine?

Is the Intel Iris Pro GPU in the new Macbook Pros supported by the Mercury Playback Engine?

    Hi,
I've been wondering the same thing. I watched this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATKDuQOQw9k
if you jump to 07:50 the dude clearly shows that it IS supported in PPRo CC (which I have), but when I go to the project settings on my new MBP 15" with identical specs, the area where I can select gpu support is greyed out with no options to change from software only. Did the expert guy in the video accidentally show the settings from his old NVIDIA MBP? Very confusing!! Also, there's a lot of publicity around the Intel Iris Pro's great ability to render Open CL with Adobe PPRo. And even a video about it here:
    http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/accelerating-video-production-with-opencl-and-intel -iris-graphics
Is this only for PC?? If so I imagine Adobe can get this going on Mac pretty damn fast, no?
    Please advise Adobe folk!
    Thanks!

  • Does anyone know autodesk Mudbox run  on the MBPR 15 with iris pro?

I want to buy MBPR 15 to using Autodesk MAYA,Mudbox....some 3D softwares.
Does anyone know what should I choose?
MBPR 15 650M  or new MBPR 15 with intel iris pro.
    Please give me some suggestions.
    Thanks!

One thing I do know, is the the UI is very small and menu items/buttons are hard to see. Someone posted a video of a now removed autodesk forum response on how to adjust font sizes .cfg file style, but I tried and it did nothing to the small text in Maya 2014. If you plan on it and don't have button and menu locations memorized by feel, I wouldn't use this software on a macbook pro without an external display, or change the resolution out of retina to use Maya.

  • Can I control the Iris Pro graphics frame rate or other settings?

I'm having an issue with a game. The game runs fine, but the graphics processing makes the frame rate go up to 100 or more FPS depending on some of the graphics settings. The CPU temperature then quickly climbs to 200 degrees F. I consider this unsafe, and would like to limit the frame rate of the game. However, the in-game option to control the frame rate has no effect. After discussions with the technical support, they suggest I try to set graphics settings outside of the game. (To be fair, the Mac client for the game is in beta, so they've probably not worked out all the compatability issues yet.)
However, I can find no control panel for the Intel Iris Pro in OSX Mavericks. Is it possible to limit/throttle the graphics from OSX Mavericks, or from terminal commands? The display settings give me resolution, brightness and color, but nothing as advanced as frame rate.
    System:
    15-inch Retina, late 2013
    2 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel Iris Pro 1024 MB
    OSX 10.9.1

Create a new sequence with the settings you want - File > New > Sequence.
Take one of your 25fps video files and edit (or drag) it to the timeline of that just created sequence. You should be prompted to match the sequence settings to the source clip. Say yes. You can now click on the clip sitting on the timeline that you used to set the sequence settings. This will select it and then you can delete it by using the backspace key.
You should now have an empty sequence with the settings you want.
Return to your original sequence with the wrong frame rate, and click anywhere on the timeline. Type Command + A to select all the clips on you timeline, and then Command + C to copy them.
Switch to your new (empty) sequence and click anywhere in it. Type Command + V to paste your clips. You should now have your edited clips on the a sequence with the settings you want.

  • What is the difference between the Intel HD Graphics 5000 and the Intel Iris Pro Graphics in  the current iMacs

What is the difference between the Intel HD Graphics 5000 and the Intel Iris Pro Graphics in  the current iMacs?

I am assuming you are talking about PPC Macs? Those haven't been manufactured or sold in years (since early 2006 I believe) when Apple started using Intel processors. There are still some apps which run on PPC code only which makes them incompatible with the last three Mac operating systems.
There are different Applecare products depending on which Mac product you buy, although the coverage is about the same (except for iOS devices).
