IRM in SharePoint 2013 & Office 203

I understand that IRM can be implemented both in SharePoint and Office 2013. For instance if any document PRINT is restricted in OFFICE 2013 IRM where as if we upload same document in SharePoint 2013 IRM where print enabled. What will happen to print permissions,
will it over write or does it consider SP 2013 IRM as higher? Please clarify me, great if someone can provide documentation about this.
Thanks, Ram Ch

Scenrioa A)
I have document X in office 2013 with “Print is not allowed” by IRM OFFICE 203 whereas now if I have upload the same document in SharePoint 2013 library where that library already has IRM permissions with PRINT IS ALLOWED. In that case which policy is enabled.
Will the document takes policy from IRM OFFICE 2013 or SharePoint 2013 library IRM. Hope this clears, please let me know.
Scenario B)
I have document Y in SharePoint 2013 where EDIT option for that document is not allowed. Now if I have download the document into local machine where OFFICE 2013 IRM is enabled with EDIT option is allowed.
Will the documents takes policy form IRM OFFICE 2013 or SharePoint 2013 library IRM.
Thanks, Ram Ch

The farm is having 2 WFE. There is NLB setting up for them.
AAM has been set to Default.
OWA binding set to -AllowHttp, zone set to internal-http. AllowOAuthOverHttp set to true.
The strange thing is when days ago we finish the installation, we try the link http://{server_name}/somefolder/document.docx to do the test, it works fine.
But today we try the link http://{NLB_link}/somefolder/documnet.docx, above error occur.
We are not sure whether AAM setting cause this issue or some other reaone. But even we remove the AAM to use the Server Name in link, still above issue.
    Any idea/comments would be appriciated.

What is the default AAM? Is it the server_name, or the NLB_Link? Might want to try having the NLB_Link as the primary (default) AAM if you haven't already?
Not sure if you have seen the Troubleshooting steps here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687(v=office.15).aspx#tshoot
it discusses use of the PowerShell command:
New-OfficeWebAppHost (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219459(v=office.15).aspx) which might be required for your NLB_Link.

  • SharePoint 2013 - Office Web Apps - Internal and External Use

I have successfully installed SharePoint 2013 and Office Web Apps on Azure VMs inside an Azure Virtual Network (IaaS model). Everyting is working well. However, my testing has shown that external users and internal users can't use Office Web Apps at the
    same time.
Office Web Apps, installed on its own vm, accomodates an external and internal URL quite well. However, SharePoint 2013 appears to only allow one setting for WOPI Zone, either internal or external but not both. I've set the WOPI zone to Internal-HTTPS (Set-SPWOPIZone
–Zone “internal-https”). OWA works just fine if accessed from inside the Azure Virtual Network. However, if I try to access from outside the Virtual Network, from the Internet, Office Web Apps fails. The exact oppisite is also true. I can set WOPI Zone to
External-HTTPS and accessing from the Internet works fine, but accessing inside the Virtual Network fails.
Am I missing something? I, obviously, want Office Webs Apps to function properly for both internal and external users simultaneously.
I appreciate any help anyone can provide here.
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
To have both the use of Internet and Internal available to your end-users, you first need to configure AAM setting. Open Central Administration > Application Management > Configure alternate access mappings. Let's say there is an existing web application
named http://sharepoint and my end-users from local network are able to access it using the URL http://sharepoint (root site collection). Here you need to add the Internet URL by select the web application and click Edit Public URLs. Add the Internet domain
to the web application, e.g http://sharepoint.abc.com. You don't necessarily have to edit binding setting in IIS. Before continuing next steps, make sure you are able to access http://sharepoint.abc.com from the Internet while being able to access http://sharepoint
    from local network (aka Internal).
On the machine where Office Web App (OWA) Server 2013 is installed, open PowerShell to add OWA module and use the following command to re-create a new OWA server farm if you've completed configuring it previously.
    New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl "http://owa" -ExternalUrl "http://owa.abc.com" -EditingEnabled.
In this case, I'm not using SSL certificate to encrypt data over the Internet. You can use Internet-public IP of the OWA server like -ExternalUrl "http://198.xxx.xxx.xx". Add CertifcateName parameter if you want to use whether CA-issued certificate
    or self-signed certificate.
On your SharePoint machine, you need to re-bind all WFE machines to WAC farm using the cmdlet New-SPWOPIBinding. Next, you need to set the WOPI zone for both internal and external.
    Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "external-http"
Note: I'm not all using certificate in my guidance. But the steps to have it configured is just to add more parameter.
I've recently successfully deployed OWA multi-server farm for both internal and internet uses for two big clients. In real-world scenario, ideally OWA should be published through firewall (Forefront UAG, TMG, F5...etc). Please let me know if you still have
issues after following my steps. My email: [email protected]

  • Generate reports from lists in SharePoint 2013 (Office 365)

    Hello everyone,
We are in the need to generate reports from lists in SharePoint 2013. The reports would do data mingling between lists (like a relational database) and generate the reports in HTML and maybe a link to pdf on the SharePoint site.
We are currently generating reports in Access. This is an issue for two reasons:
Reports cannot be generated on the fly. Whenever we want reports in pdf form, we have to go into Access and run our reports macro written in VBA. It essentially generates the reports as pdf into our synced SkyDrive, which syncs it to our SharePoint site
Report generation cannot be done by the client. This is due to the same concept as (1). We need to generate reports in Access.
Is there any way to do this in SharePoint 2013? Are there any apps that do this?
Any guidance or help would be appreciated.
FYI: Our SharePoint server is hosted on the Office 365 network. It is not a local system.
    Thanks

One option is to run the info into a Word Template and then run Word Automation Services to convert to PDF, but I think you're still going to run into some similar issues.

  • SharePoint 2013 Office 365 REST api - filter by FileDirRef

    Hi,
We are using following REST call to query items from a document library and filter by
FileDirRef. When we include the filter for FileDirRef, no items are returned from Office 365 sites. The same call/filter works fine on a local SharePoint 2013 box.
    https://xxx.sharepoint.com/sites/abc/_api/web/lists/getbytitle('DocumentLibrary')/items?$Select=FileDirRef,FileLeafRef&$filter=startswith(FileDirRef,
    '/sites/abc/DocumentLibrary/folder1')
Why is filter by FileDirRef not working in Office 365 sites? Are we missing anything ?
    Thanks

    Hi Sandhya,
    What is your goal?
If you want to use RESET API to get files in a folder of a document library, I suggest you use
    http://site url/_api/web/GetFolderByServerRelativeUrl('/Folder Name')/Files.
More information about working with folders and files with REST, please refer to the link:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn292553(v=office.15).aspx
In addition, this forum supports for SharePoint 2013 On-premises, for your issue, I suggest you create a new thread on Office 365 forum, more experts will assist you with Office 365.

  • SharePoint 2013 - Office web apps intermittent issue

From past few weeks we are seeing issue while opening the documents from sites error message says “Sorry something went wrong + An unexpected error occur on the Server”.  This happens with individual users accounts(Since it is
expected behavior with Service account for Office web Apps). After identifying on which server we are seeing the issue we are performing the
IIS reset on that effected Server and then issue will resolve but after a week or 10 days this is repeated again.    If anyone has seen this issue in(SP2013+OWA) please share your inputs for permanent fix.

to expand so I don't like the idea of having that many individual permissions set.
Are there any 3rd party plug-ins or solutions to this issue?
    Thanks,

    Try below:
    http://www.hersheytech.com/Blog/SharePoint/tabid/197/entryid/28/Default.aspx
As it turns out the, setting Item-Level Permissions in a library is fully supported with PowerShell!
The PowerShell commands for changing this are very simple:
    $web = Get-SPWeb http://YourSite/
    $list = $web.Lists[“Your Document Library Name”]
    $list.ReadSecurity = 2
    $list.Update()
    $web.Dispose()
Note the 3rd line which is where you determine the value for this setting using the following values:
    1 = “Read all items”
2 = “Read items that were created by the user”
If you wish to modify the values for Create and Edit access instead, replace .ReadSecurity with .WriteSecurity with
    the following values:
1 = “Create and edit All items”
2 = “Create items and edit items that were created by the user”
    4 = “None”
    For example:
    $web = Get-SPWeb http://YourSite/
    $list = $web.Lists[“Your Document Library Name”]
    $list.WriteSecurity = 2
    $list.Update()
    $web.Dispose()

  • Blank Page when clicking on Site Settings SharePoint 2013 Office 365 Sub Sites E3 Plan

I'm having a problem with 1 Community site collection where all my sub sites render blank screens for Site Settings
Page, but my root site collection displays links on Site Settings Page.
Hope It shouldn't be a permission problem since I'm a site collection administrator, so it appears limited to
    just this site.
Its very urgent any help would be of great help, Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Raghav,
Please check if there is any message in subsites Site settings blank pag source file in IE browser via F12.
Also check if it could help with adding SharePoint site URL in IE trusted sites zone.
Also test this issue out side your company network, see if there is any settings in comany network causing this, e.g. firewall mentioned  by Shannon Herold 101 in your another thread.
SharePoint Online is as part of Office365 in the cloud, it seems you have posted the issue in our Office365 dedicated forum, please keep monitoring the udpate there.

  • SharePoint 2013/Office 365 solution for subscription course

    Hi,
A colleague of mine would like to make it possible for users to subscribe for an event. He would like the users to fill out a form(just through a list I guess) and click OK to make the subscription final. But, he wants the subscription to be closed when
50 subscriptions are final. So number 51 should not be able to subscribe. What's the best way of doing this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers!

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to restrict users to add no more than 50 items of subscribing for an event in a list.
I recommend to edit the list in InfoPath and use rules to achieve this goal.
    Here are the detailed steps:
Click Customize Form in the ribbon of the list.
Add the same list as an external data to InfoPath by clicking Data Connections in the Data tab.
Click Page Design to add a new view and type “We have 50 subscription already and cannot add more” in the new view.
Click Form Load in the Data tab, click New and select Action in the Rules panel.
In Condition, choose Select a field or group in the first box, choose is equal to in the second box, choose Type a number and then type 50 in the third box. Click OK.
Click Add and select Switch views to switch to the new view created in step3.
Select Edit item(default) view in Page Design tab, then set the below rules for each field in the form.
Click New and select Formatting in the Rules panel, then follow the step5 to set the Condition and check Hide this control for each field.
    Publish the form to SharePoint.
After that, when a user add the 51 one the form will switch to the new view "We have 50 subscription already and cannot add more", they cannot type in values in the fields and save the form.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Sharepoint 2013 / Office 365 (in french) & Power Query

    Good afternoon,
I've read a few threads regarding PowerQuery connectivity and SharePoint lists located on non-english sites.
From what I can gather (taken from other thread) :
"Unfortunately, when this feature was developed we didn't realize that the OData feeds from SharePoint
were localized. So the feature was designed with the assumption that we'd know how to find certain fields in the output based on their name -- "ContentTypeId", for instance."
Is there a planned fix for this?
    Thank you,

We definitely plan to address the problem at some point, but haven't yet scheduled the work.

  • Using office web apps with SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
I would like to use office web apps in our SharePoint 2013 environment. I would like to know if OWA has to have a dedicated server or can I install it on the SharePoint 2013 app server.
    Sherazad

With SharePoint 2013, Office Web Apps cannot be installed on the SharePoint Server, it must be installed on its own server, not shared with any other IIS-based service (it essentially "takes over" IIS).

  • Project Pro 2013 and syncing with SharePoint Online 2013 (Office 365)

    Good day,
I am experiencing some challenges with a Project Pro master project file and syncing to SharePoint 2013 (Office 365).
    What works
Individual projects can be synced to SharePoint without issue. Once synced, the site start page presents the Project Summary gant, clicking the Tasks link takes me to the tasks. Project files are stored in the Site Assets directory in each SharePoint site
    (one site per project file).
    What doesn't work
When I create a new project (and sync it to a new site), then add two (2) existing project files that reside on SharePoint and then sync to the new master project site I
don't see any content in the Project Summary gant, nor do I see any tasks in the task list. I can't figure out if this is not supported or if I've done something wrong. There are no error messages or indicators that I've done something wrong,
short of the master project projects not showing up on the master project site (nothing in the project summary gant and no tasks).
Some help would be greatly appreciated. Being able to render a master project is crucial to understanding timelines for many projects in a single view.

    Steven,
This is by design. Inserted Sub projects will NOT show in the Master Project Tasks list. You will only see tasks inserted directly at the Master Project Level.
Moreover, if you set up a dependency between Master project Task and Subproject task, then the sync will not work. All in all, there are limitations for this process, which is where Project Online/Project Server needs to be considered.

    Thanks again for quick response.
I have requested users who are having this issue to try check in/ check out, and share the results.
    Result with CheckIn/CheckOut:
User was able to check out but no edit option.
'Edit Document' option under 'Files' tab was greyed out. I did check permissions every thing seems fine he has full control over the site and document library.
    Please advise.
