Irritating dead pixel issue

So I got my 2nd gen Touch a few weeks ago, and I really like it. Only problem is there's a fiercely annoying dead pixel towards the bottom of the screen. And here's the worst part: it seems to fluctuate in intensity, so sometimes it's barely noticeable and other times it's painfully obvious. I sent it in a few days ago via online service request, and get the "we have been unable to reproduce the symptoms you reported" email. Knowing my luck, they must have checked it when the dead pixel decided it wanted to behave.
I've tried everything to get the lousy pixel working again: flashing different colors in rapid succession, massaging the pixel, etc.
What do I do!?! This is really driving me up the wall. I want to enjoy the stupid thing, but I can't when this pixel distracts me.

have you tried restoring it?
otherwise, i agree with Chris. dead pixels are not normal, you don't have to put up with it. take advantage of the guarantee, take it back and get it looked at (they'll probably replace it.

  • Shouldn't Apple recall and provide FREE replacement for MacBook Pro screens with ghosting and dead pixel issues?

Read the forum posts, Google the issue, watch the YouTube videos on the problems; they are everywhere. I purchased a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro and the screen is riddled with dead pixels, white ghosting throughout, and image retention issues, all from a company that promotes the quality of the product they sell. There's no way this issue facing so many consumers shouldn't result in Apple replacing these screens for FREE.
I purchased the high-end machine for photo and video editing. Photo editing is particularly difficult when I can't tell if I have dust, dirt or colour shifts in my images or if it's just the screen overlaying these issues. I've never had so many issues with any screen I've purchased, from my Panasonic Plasma TV to my cheap ACER laptop. Please Apple, quit ignoring this issue.

  • Sept 2012 Macbook Pro dead pixel issue

    Hi,
My Macbook pro from Sept 2012 has recently had a major issue with pixels dying, around 10-15 in a few weeks. My Macbook is out of warranty as over a year old so I am wondering what my options are? I don't believe the dead pixels are a fault of my own as I have seen a lot of problems with this issue online.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately dead pixels cannot be resuscitated.  The solution is a replacement of the display.
Had you purchased Apple Care, the display, if it was outside the Apple pixel display standards, may have been replaced for free.
    Ciao.

  • Retina highlight/ dead pixels issues

    Hi
I have recently started to see highlight (dead) pixels on my MBP retina display. I thought these are dead pixels so I went to the Apple store to get it fixed.
It turns out that these are not dead pixels but actually tiny dents on the thin glass cover that might have happen from small particles on the keyboard or the surface around it.
According to the guys in the Apple store a few people came with the same issue but we where told that this is not covered by warranty as it's a damage caused by the user!
This is a big concern and should be investigated by Apple. does this mean that we need to keep the keyboard and surrounding area completely clean each time before we close the lid? It never happened on any of my laptops in 15 years.
If you see something that looks like a dead pixels try to scrape the the glass with your nail. If it feels like there is something on the glass like a small bump then it's not a dead pixel but a tiny dent on the glass and Apple won't fix it under warranty.
This makes the MBP Retina a product a very fragile product so think twice before you buy one.
    Cheers,
    Mica

I just got back from the apple store. The guy immediately agreed to replace the screen under my apple care and promised that we would check if there would still be image retention issues with the new one in the store and that they'd swap it again if there were. He also claimed that while he'd seen issues early on, he hadn't seen any problems for the past few months.
I got a new samsung screen and they ran an image retention test in the store with me and everything checked out fine. So I just want to give a big shoutout to apple for being super cool about this and to tell others with the same worries as me to just go there and talk to them. The problem I guess with looking at stuff online is that you mostly only see people  writing that have had bad experiences... so here's to also reporting when you have a good one!

  • 27¨ iMac - Dead Pixel Madness!

    Hi,
Today was a very interesting and exhausting day for me.
I purchased a new *27¨ iMac* a few days ago, I set it up and I noticed that there is a *dead pixel*, right in the middle of the screen.
I told myself to live with it but a friend of mine said 'Are you crazy? You paid 2000 dollars for it, go and get a new one.' And I headed to the *Best Buy* store, that I bought my iMac at.
Customer representative took a quick look at it and said 'Oh that's right. Let's give you another one.'
I got the new one and asked them to check it for me before I took it home. They opened it and... Yes. That one also had a *dead pixel!*
He said 'That's unbelievable. Let's get another one'. I got another one, we opened it and... No way! There was two of them! Nobody believed it, people started to laugh and then the supervisor came. She said, 'Sir, I'm so sorry for this but we cannot open another box. Do you want to go to another BestBuy and get a new one there?'. I said OK and went to another store... +(By the way, that meant 'We want to sell the other iMacs with dead pixels to someone who doesn't notice', which is not acceptable in my opinion... Anyway...)+
As you may guess, the same thing happened! They opened 2 boxes for me and both had dead pixels!
*2 different stores, 5 iMacs with dead pixels in a row!*
Supervisor of the other BestBuy store also came to me and said, 'Sir, I'm sorry for this but we cannot open another box. Do you want to go to another Bestbuy and get a new one there?'. I said 'No, please give my money back and I'll go to an *Apple Store* and buy a new one there.'
They did it and I'll wait 48 hours for my money to be transferred back to my account. In such busy days, I'll spend two days without a computer at home...
After such a weird day, I began to think if the guys in the Apple Store will open the box for me and try it. And I also wonder if they will exchange it if there's a dead pixel. Does anyone have an idea about this?
+I know there are some topics about the dead pixel issue, but I think this one is a bit different :)+
    Thanks in advance.

    Here is the update
I went to an Apple Store and told them my story. The guy that helped me said he had never experienced such an issue before and he said 'OK, let's get you a new one'. He got a box, opened it, turned the computer on and... Yes! One more iMac with a dead pixel, this time in an Apple Store!
6 in a row! This might be a record! I'll contact Guniess for this soon...
Then I got another one and finally I found a 27 inch iMac in Los Angeles, without a dead pixel. What a success story, huh?
Thanks for your replies and be very careful while buying a 27 inch iMac

  • Lenovo G550 Dead Pixels

Hi i am starting to get a dead pixels issue there 3 already. I am still under warrenty does the policy mean 3 or more or just more then 3. Also do i have to sent it abroad for repair i use the laptop everyday so sending it will be problematic.
Also i have no recovery partition i have the recovery discs so i can re-instate the onekey recovery.
Not sure if this void the warranty at all.
Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i suggest you to contact lenovo support line for dead pixel pixel issue. ( warranty may cover )
recovery partitions are hidden, so you can't see the partition unless some error occurs.
i didn't understand what your question is, creating recovery dvds or recovering system using disc?
actually, answer is yes for both.

  • Lenovo wont stand behind dead pixel policy

I am not sure what else to do. It seems like unless you complain on this board, lenovo will not respond.
I bought a t400 back in 2008 and it shipped with dead pixels.
I informed support and they noted it "on my account". I had a 5 year warranty and decided to wait until I had a major issue.
My T400 recently failed (hard blue screen) and I sent it in to lenovo support. They refused to fix the lcd and after a few days shipped my laptop back without fixing the blue screen
I finally got support to let me go with a local repair shop (they did a motherobard swap). The tech fix my machine but again lenovo refused to repair my LCD
I bought a 5 year warranty for piece of mind and  lenovo has completely failed.
If you have a dead pixel issue, return the unit asap. Lenovo will refuse repairs.
I have purchased 4 thinkpads since 2008 and since the t61 nvidia failure, the support has gone completely downhill
My case # is A02P78N, and I have sent 3 PMs to mark with no reply.
    Can anybody help?

  • Click wheel issues, dead pixel

Ok, so I have issues with a very loose click wheel and a VERY obvious dead pixel, it's like bright purple compared to the rest of the screen and is very annoying while watching videos. I have a purple 16gb Are these issues that I can get an exchange on? I've babied this thing to death, I haven't dropped it or scratched it in any way. I'd like to just go in to the Apple store and exchange it, but does it matter where you bought it? Obviously I'm still within my Apple warranty, so do they just look it up with the serial number? I don't have my purchase receipt either. Any help would be wonderful, thanks in advance!

No, it does not matter. Make an appointment before going to the Apple store. The genius bar will help you. If you don't have an appointment, you could wait a long time.

  • Brand new T530 issues. (Defective FHD panel/dead pixels)

Just received my T530 yesterday, and honestly I've got to say it's a great machine, but I have noticed a couple of minor problems with it, along with a factory defect.
    1. The battery is too loose.
    2. The keyboard has no caps lock indicator, yet the mute button has its own indicator (can't complain there)
I bought the FHD screen, which is absolutely exceptional, except for the fact that it has about 4 DEAD pixels on the middle right..
Also I bought this unit brand new on eBay, but my warranty status says it has expired before it ever started. What's up with that?
One final thing, when I opened up the box, the power adaptor, was in its own little compartment, unprotected, though it works fine, but is a little scratched, not sure if that's Lenovo's fault, or if the seller accidentally removed packing material when including the recepit/invoice.
Looks like I'll have to send this unit in, I assume Lenovo's warranty covers factory defects with the screen?
    Thanks.

I ended up getting a full refund, and now I am ordering directly from Lenovo.
    Thanks everyone!

  • MBP Retina 15" dead pixel and fan issues

I have a dead pixel in the middle of my screen and the fans are spinning at least every five to ten minutes of casual use. What should I do?

Call Customer Support and have them replace the screen. They will send you a box to mail to depot.
I had a MacBook Pro with a dead pixel and left speaker out. My MBP was 4 years old, definently out of warrenty. I called Apple, and they replaced the display without charge.
I received the box on Wednesday, mailed it on Thursday (FedEx) and got my fixed MBP back on Friday, same week! This is why I still buy Apple.
When calling customer service, stress that you have more than one pixel out, as you probably have a cluster. Have them do the repair at depot not at any Apple Store. Make sure, since you are still with 90 days, fix it for free.
    Should not be a problem.

  • I have the same case with you an iPad Air in dead pixel or speckle silver dust on screen.  It is been 3 months I bought in Avant Abenson in Greenbelt Makati Philippines. Today I decided to change my screen protector film but the speckle dust on the screen

Speckles dust on the screen and it cannot be removed today when I decided to change the screen protector film and noticed is not my fault it is a factory defect on screen it is either dead pixel or speckle dust on screen they are so many said and experience I have read.  So I need the replacement a new one for that dismayed screen on my iPad Air. I bought this 3 months ago in Avant Abenson at Greenbelt Makati Philippines.  I need the replacement for tomorrow I will go to the store I bought.  I love apple products but they need to replace and make go round to improve some defects and cannot be more escalate with this issue of the many of patronizing your products.  It is sometimes irritating to the eyes and seen dirt on the screen.  Thank you apple customer service to bringing up my complaints and a replacement for tomorrow's to inform the store I bought and advise them here in the Philippines to facilitate in regards to this matter.

I wanted to buy an ipad air to replace my ipad 2 but the one I wanted was (luckily) sold out.
Yesterday I tested the air from a collegue and I noticed the screen was SUBSTANTIALLY less sensitive than the screen of my ipad 2 when using my stylus.
I use Stylus R US especially for I annotate and with the air this did not work well at all... Half of the time there was no contact registered so underying certain parts of the text was a disaster...
Just working with the finger all whent OK... Just fear that another app I use a lot (notes +) will have same problem.
On the Ipad 4 also retina all goes *** smooth as on my ipad 2...
Is this a fault of a specific ipad air series? Or is this normal?? If it is I think this is truelly a huge flaw and I cannot see how not manny people using the ipad for notetaking etc did not notice this...

  • Can I get the notebook replaced / screen replaced if i have a single dead pixel?

Hi,I have a 2 days old notebook, and there's a stuck pixel (red) on the display. It's an expensive notebook, costs more than a thousand dollars, and HP website tells me I cannot get it fixed or replaced if i have just  a single bad pixel.I'm HATING my Envy for this. I'm typing this on my old notebook, the very sight of that ugly stuck pixel is getting me irritated. Sure you can ignore it, but once you know there's a problem, your eyes always tend to go to the problem place. Is there a way I can get it replaced or repaired under warranty? I went for the 3 years extended warranty option, and now found out a dead pixel is not covered. Sucks.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

  • Dead pixels appeared on Macbook Pro Retina 15"

    Hi,
Bought my Macbook on September / 2014 and so far no problems.
Unfortunately today a lot of dead pixels appeared on the center of my screen !
I tried to clean it but it seems to be behind the screen actually. Tried to reboot and reset SMC as request by Apple support, with no success : (
They suggested i bring it to the nearest service center, problem is i use my machine to work and it probably will take weeks to repair.
Is there any other solution ? Why this happened ? My previous Macbook was not Retina and never had this kind of issue.
I took a photo of the screens while in the google website :
    Very disappointed

A 15 ft display boy that is big. Perhaps a smaller display with fewer pixels is in order.
