the buzz is driving me crazy!!!

Welcome to Discussions - which model do you have how to identify your iMac?
Do you think it might be coming fro your fans? If you have any model other than the iSight, you can open your machine and vacuum the dust out.
Let is know how you make out,

  • Are there any quiet 20" iSight iMac G5 without constant buzzing sound?

    Hello all,
Some of you may know I've got my iMac G5 and it has constant buzzing sound coming from the back of the vent. My friend's going to get one and he's afraid he is going to get one with buzzing sound. I don't know if it is just me or everyone's has buzzing sound.
There is a 17" iSight iMac sitting next to me. It is very quiet, so I know how it is supposed to sound like. Since it's a 17", I am not sure if they have the same designs.
So for those who have new 20" iSight iMac G5, can you tell me whether you have the buzzing sound from you iMac or not please?
    Thank you very much.

My 20" G5 iSight has a constant fan noise, could be descibed as buzzing.
Yet my wifes 17" iMac iSight is virtually silent.
I note the 20" vibrates if you touch the left side of the screen, they were all doing that in the Apple store too.
I think that maybe the fan runs faster in the 20" due to faster processor, bus, graphics card and larger hard drive.
All these will generate more heat.
On another note a friend popped round earlier and said my 20" was really quiet, so it is subjective I think.
I have very sensitive hearing, I cannot hear my new iMac over my old PoweMac G4 FW800 - that is very lound.

  • Dropped iPhone on floor and now when I make outgoing calls I hear a constant buzzing sound, when i turn on speaker it goes away, turn speaker off and the buzzing returns.

I dropped my iPhone 4 on floor and now when I make outgoin calls I hear constant buzzing sound, when I activate speakerphone it goes away only to return once the speakerphone is deactivated.  Help!!!

Sounds like you need to take it in for repair.

  • High pitched squeak/chirp sound in mp3's

Whether it's a downloaded mp3 or burned from a CD, I'm now getting a high pitched squeak/chirp sound when I play my mp3's. It's happening in my iPod, also. I'm pretty new at this, and I'd really appreciate your help. (I do have error correction on for importing CD's). Thanks!

    Nobody at all can help?

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me out with regards to this high pitched noise- i am assuming its coming from the imac as when i swap that with my laptop in the exact same setup all high pitched noises are gone.

  • Equium M50 high-pitched squeaking sound

I keep getting a repeating squeaking sound when my laptop is on, sounds almost as if the fan needs oiling or something! (I know it isn't that) It's not affecting the performance of it but does get quite irritating. Anyone else had the same?
    M

It's pretty much all the time really, although when the computer is just idle it doesn't make any noise at all. So basically, whenever I do anything, it's as if the processor or motherboard or fan or something inside it is making a squeak. It's kind of a high-pitched noise that sounds like air being pushed through something. There's nothing in the vent that's for sure, it's only a week old!
I will contact the Toshiba service and ask for the help. My notebook is covered by warranty.
    Cheers

  • Very High Pitched and Super Quiet beep/sound from DV6

They seem to make a new DV6 every year but This one is mine.
I've had this notebook since September and its awesome. But there is a very annoying issue I have always had with it. When I'm using it in a very quiet environment I can hear it emit a high pitched beep type sound every second. Its extremely quiet but its one of those sounds your brain suddenly notices and you can't stop hearing it - like when some old CRT monitors and tube TV's are left on. I usually only hear it when the PC is idle or doing very basic tasks like I'm doing now typing this. I thought for sure it was something else in my home for the first month until I was using the notebook someplace else and heard the same annoying sound. When I put my ear up to the notebook I can hear it better and that its somehow tied with the fan. I can hear the fan barely slow down by probably 5%, then that beep and the fan speeds up again. This happens continuously until I'm not idle. Anyone else notice this? My motherboard was replaced a month ago (It randomly died) but nothing changed.

Seems to be normal "CPU whine". Nothing can really be done about it. I've just been lucky with my notebooks in the past not having a whine. I set my networked storage a little closer to where I sit and it cancels out the CPU whine.

  • Buzzing Sound - iMac Late 2012

    Hello!
So, I received my Late 2012 iMac 21,5 inch yesterday. It has a 3,1GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB Fusion Drive. It's great, only thing is, this constant buzzing sound coming out of it. I heard you're hardly meant to hear it, and the sound stops when I scroll on the mouse. Every now and then it stops for a bit but it never stops completely.
    Any solutions please?
    Thanks,
    Molly/.

Thanks! Unfortunately because of the christmas period they won't be able to send it back until Wednesday, so instead of going without I'll take it back then. I've just noticed that when turning the cam on for Flutter is stops So i'll just keep the cam on so i don't burst my eardrums

  • Satellite L850-1R4 - Freezing with high pitched buzzing sound

    Greetings.
I obtained this computer from my school, it was packed and not opened as far as I know(to my knowledge they didn't open 'em at least.) Around 5-6 times every day (Span of 6 hours at least) my computer freezes, with a very high pitched buzzing sound that sounds like a bloody drill.
I updated my drivers and everything, but this still occurs and I have to power restart the computer to be able to continue working/playing/watching anything.
    How can I solve this?
    Thank you and best regards.
    Berkcan S.

    > Furthermore If I take it to factory settings (which I tried some months back) It gives me further crashes, freezes and blue screens.
Sorry mate but for me it sounds like an hardware problem. BSOD can be caused due serious software issue (compatibility between driver and hardware) or hardware malfunction but setting the unit back to factory setting should not cause an software issues. Therefore I presume an hardware part is the troublemaker.
The common parts like HDD or RAM modules should be checked firstly following by motherboard, CPU, etc

  • High-pitched buzzing sound

    hello
i just bought a macbook pro out of an apple store today and it has a buzzing sound coming from it..
i m very annoyed and disappointed..
can anybody tell me if i can fix that?
I was so happy to get the machine, and i m so disappointed now..

Don't be disappointed you got yourself a heck of a machine to enjoy. I would return it and get it exchanged.
I have had 3 MBP and none have ever done that unless i left a cd in the MBP. Just exchange it.
How many RPM is your HD? should be 7200 or so.

  • High-pitched beep/sound during sleep and shut down modes

I just wish to check whether is it normal that there's high pitched beep (not very loud but can be heard in a quiet room) which seems to be from the LED or AC Adapter during sleep mode. The beep sounds continuous when the computer has been shut down or in off mode while the main plug of where the ac adapter is connected to is still on. Is this normal? My computer works fine. Battery is charging fine. I just want check whether is this normal. It is has been like that ever since I bought my computer on March 2012.
HP Pavilion dm4-3005tx Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello Huanwei,
It appears that you can hear a "high pitched beep" coming from the notebook while it's in sleep mode or even off, when the power adapter is plugged in and "on". I will try to help you with this.
Normally, this should not happen. Beeping from a computer may happen during start up a few times to indicate components enabling, but any constant beeping or being while the computer is off shouldn't happen.
Does this occur, if the AC adapter is not connected to the notebook when it is in sleep mode or off? Do you only notices this, in a specific location? (office, etc.)
I would suggest, depending on the setup of things. Taking the notebook with no AC to another location in the house. A quiet one, make sure your not near any other electronics (no watches or cell phones either) let the notebook sleep and see if you hear the beeping. If not, then power it off and test again. If no beeping, this is good and the notebook is fine.
Repeat that same test with the power adapter connected ( again no other electronics around you). Listen while it is "sleeping" and off to see if you can hear the beeping again.
If you do disconnect the AC from the notebook , but leave that connected to the wall and take the notebook out of that location, go back to see if you can hear beeps again. If you do it could be the AC adapter. If you don't then it could be an issue with that only when it's connected.
If there was no beeping when the AC was connected in this "testing location", then I would guess it is something else within the house that is beeping (we have seen that before). In which case you'd have nothing to worry about in regard to your notebook.
Let me know where the above leads.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Very high pitch sound on new Quad

    Just got my Quad yesterday
Everything is good, except that it has a very high pitch sound that is very annoying and it hurts my ears in the long run.
I disconnected the HD and superdrive to see if I could locate the source, but it is still there.
I thought about pulling the gpu (6600 256MB), but I don't know if the Quad will start up without a gpu.
I thought the 6600 was supposed to be with a fan, but all I see is black cooling ribs.
Any others with this sound ?
Its not a fan noise, and not a pump noise. It is like a 'electronic' whine.

I have sensitive hearing and noticed something similar when I got my 2.5GHz liquid-cooled G5. It was a constant sound and believe it was coming from the cooling pump. Does your sound ever vary? Try running System Load and see if you can get it to vary.

  • High pitched sound (not from the speakers)

I bough an A665 on may 21st 2011, and since day 1 ive been hearing a high pitched sound coming from the underside of the laptop (directly above the RAM slots). Sometimes its there and sometimes its not (mostly it is...). I found out that if i scroll down on a webpage the sound goes away...only to come back when im finished scrolling.
    Any ideas?

Update.....I get my laptop back yesterday (friday) for the second time ..They said they replaced the HD with a Western digital HD because the toshiba ones seem to be having a vibration issue...Well, they put another Toshiba HD in it not the WD....The same Buzzing, staticy noise is still there and on top of it all the new HD make alot more clicking noise then the previous one....When I sent the laptop in for the second time, eveything was working fine except for the same Buzzing, staticty noise...Well Now i still get the noise and on top of all that, I can not turn off the LED lights on the keyboard which I was able to do before, I can not run any Toshiba software (IE PC Health, Eco...Etc) I get Bios errors and other errors, and some things are freezing....Spoke to them again, and now had to call the Case Manager,,and all they said is to send it back to their main repair place, not the repair depot.....I told them all i want is another new machine....getting tired going 1 month with out a laptop and all you guys are doing is guessing, replacing with out testing and sending it back and they said they can not replace it.........This is one for the books.....I should of bought the HP or Dell I saw first......to be continued.

  • High-Pitched Electronic sound

I'm a long-time Windows guy & I just received my replacement 17"MBP as the first one had a loose screen. I notice a high-pitched buzzing sound emanating from the upper left side of the laptop only when the power supply is plugged in. It is not very loud but the high-pitched frequency really stands out when the room is quiet. Is this normal? If I click the trackpad button, the sound goes away. I've researched this board but could not find the same situation. Tech Support says the MBP's are louder than prevous models and suggested I take it to an Apple Store (3 hoours away). Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

If you were to send the computer to Apple, they would do absolutely nothing to fix it. I've spoken to a product specialist on many occasions now, and they flat out refuse to acknowledge the fact that it is buggy.
I have even given the specialist many ways to eliminate the whine via software fixes (IE: Photobooth, Mirror Widget, Comic Life, Ect) and they still maintain it is 'within spec'.
What is disconcerting to me, is that if the issue is glaring people in the face (MacBook Plastic on the vents) they will openly admit to it, but if it is something they can spin as being 'spec', they will ignore it.

  • Do your MacBook make a high pitch beeping sound?

Just got a late 2011 MacBook pro with SSD hard drive (17 inch i7).
I have noticed an almost inaudiable high pitch 'morse code' like beeping coming from the machine. Maybe the SSD being accessed?
I do have tinnitus and have been known to become irritated from low Hz monitors and TVs in the days when they operated at 50-60 Hz. So maybe something in the machine is operating at that fequency.
It may be nearly audible, but it's driving me mad when the music is off and I'm trying to concentrate!
    Does anyone else experience this?

Does the beep sound similar to this video? Skip to the 00:44 mark to hear the sound. If the sound is this one that means that your Mac is trying to update its EFI.
Would you mind recording a soundbyte? That could be really helpful. It's not possible that the sound is coming from the SSD, perhaps is your fans.
    Hope that helps.
P.S. If you are too bothered you can also make an appointment at your local Apple Store Genius Bar.
