Irritating start up page

Everytime i start up my computer, and then start Firefox there appears a double startup page. The first one - totally unwanted page - gives the following message in full screen:
"Firefox has been updated" etc etc.
Q: How can i get rid of this start up mode? The one and only start up page that I have set up, and that I want to start solely and directly is www.google.se

Did you check if you have a user.js in Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true?
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

I have a application which has been developed in ASP .NET, Version 4.0. Help link has been created in this application wherein here the Start up page of index.htm has been linked to be read from the RoboHelp local project folder\!SSL!\Multiscreen_HTML5\desktop. All are working absolutely fine except when
I login into the above-said application -> click on the Help page -> the index.htm opens with Contents, Index, Glossary -> Am able to successfully perform any task by respective clickings
-> But I am not able to get back into my application when I click on the IE provided Back button (Alt+Left) -> Any amount of invoking Back button makes the system getting looped into this Start up page of index.htm only -> When I Close Tab (Ctrl + W) or Close ( X ) -> The window session gets closed and I have to repeat all by relogin once again.
How can I get back into my application aftermath invoking Start up page of index.htm ?
(I can always get back into the application easily by erasing those parts in the url which refers to this RoboHelp linkages – but this certainly looks non-polished work)

Hey Jeff, I used Internet Explorer 10.0.9200 and Google Chrome 26.0.1410. Alas - it is the same behavior.
(But Jeff : When I used Microsoft HTML Help as primary layout to generate chm file , My Help when launched from my Application opened in a new browser window and when I closed this Help browser window did not close my application. Looks like need to write few liner code to get this issue settled )

My name and/or password are not working on start up page. Got given used macbook pro and new to apple so please help!

My brother gave me his macbook pro and I'm having trouble getting past the start up page that asks for my my name and password. I have an apple id and password but these don't work nor does me typing my actual name and the same password. I've rung apple twice and the first person said I had to reset my uusername account and told me I could do so by visiting the support part of the apple website using the link he gave me. The information tells me how to do this but I have to have the computer up and running to reset/change the account username and password. So no joy. Second time I spoke with a lady who told me the name and password should be the same as the one my brother used when he had the computer but having entered the name and password he gave me it still doesn't work. I've tried all the different name types of my name e.g. full name, no spaces, capitals and no capitals etc but every time I click on the right pointing arrow thing or press the enter button the password does a quiver/shake thing and nothing happens. My bro says he has a relatively new lion operating system. I haven't a clue what to do as I'm new to using apple computers and I've spent ages looking through the support section with no success in finding the solution. Any help/advise would be much appreciated. Ta

Resetting User Password in Lion and Mountain Lion
Boot into your Recovery Partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
In Terminal, type:
resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.

Can I set up two different start up pages

I want 2 different start up pages that you have to log into on my I pad 1 for me and 1 for my son

I have chosen a persona, but when I start up Firefox, Mozilla start page with Google shows, and persona is just barely visible only in the toolbar area. How do I get the persona to show, and not Google start-up page?

I checked out the Mozilla Personas, saw one I liked, and added on. When I start Firefox, the Mozilla start-up page shows as usual with Google on it. The Persona I chose barely shows, and only in the Toolbars area at the top of the screen. Can I modify the start-up page to not show Google, and access Google another way, so that my Persona will show on the whole start-up page?

As you can see from the [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+themes+with+Firefox using themes with Firefox] article, personas are "''lightweight themes that can change the color scheme and background image of the Firefox toolbars''" and they wouldn't change the webpages.
If you don't like seeing Google as your home page you might want to look at [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page how to set the home page] and change it.
Finally Firefox 3.5.x will be maintained with security and stability updates until August 2010, so you might want to [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Updating+Firefox update to a newer version].

i changed the start up page in tools / options and when i restart Firefox it returns to the unwanted page
i installed bit comet and winxdvd programs i was browsing some other sites at the time so i am not sure if those programs were the problem or not

My Powerbook was the same. Only fix is to reinstall OSX from the install CD but be sure not to pick the Format and install clean. Once you boot with the install CD pick the preserve user data and settings.
On My machine the reinstall looked perfect. My network, email, files and all the programmes were all there. Most apps worked fine but Adobe CS2, Virtual PC and NetBarrier all needed reinastallation as they reported a few files or registration was missing. I went for the 10.4.3 upgrade again and it worked fine.

Saved own colors in swatch palette in start up page

How can I save my favorite (most used) colors in my swatch palette and use them over and over again? (Means I want to see them at every start up. In earlier versions I could find the "start up page", where I could save them, where it is in CS3?)

Check the help files on creating your own swatch library. You can save the swatch library on your computer and then open Illustrator (with no document open), open the swatch library that you created, and then check persistent in the pallette options. It should then open up every time you open Illustrator.

How to avoid starting a page with line breaks?

Hello. I've just started to refine my Master's thesis and some of the topics moved up and down as I edited their contents. The problem is that in some cases the topic breaks right after the title, and the rest of the contents just move away to another page. Is there any way to avoid starting a page with line breaks or broken topics?

At the end of your title, you didn't inserted a line break but a paragraph break (carriage return).
Acivate the mode "Show hidden characters"
Select the carriage return (paragraph break)
Delete it
Press Shift + return to insert a true line break.
It may be useful to apply that several times if you inserted several carriage returns between the title and the first filled line.

Well if your on 10.5.8 like your signature says, then you have bigger problems to worry about.
10.5 isn't supported anymore, so you might as well attempt data recovery (if you dont' have a backup) and call Apple via phone for the 10.6.3 white retail disk.

I used to have a list that would come up when I clicked on the secure search line. I've saved that list of websites I frequently go to. Now I click on the space and nothing, nothing comes up til I start to type, but, that's ya for yahoo or fa for facebook. I could care less about a list of yahoo and facebook websites. I'm not sure what you mean by secure search: is that a custom home page? If so, it may be a feature of an extension. You can check to make sure it is enabled, and check for updates for it, on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

Could you try disabling search suggestions to see whether you get your old list back? You can do that from Firefox's Search Bar, the one that usually appears on the main toolbar and has the search engine icon at the left side. Either:
* right-click the bar > uncheck Show Suggestions
* click the current icon > Manage Search Engines..., then uncheck Show Search Suggestions

2 days ago both mine and my daughter's macs stopped being able to open up the apple start up page, search google, yahoo, facebook and many other sites. Pictures won't download on sites and we are redirected to http://www.website-unavailable.com/main?url=www.apple.com%2Fstartpage&w=1280&h=6 21&ifc=0# with an orange O in front, which is OpenDNS Guide page. We live in NW England, has anyone else had similar problems and any suggestions how we can resolve our problem?

Have you tried another browser (chrome, firefox, and checked your router for blocked websites?) and also quit Safari and reopened? Also reset your cookies (Safari > Preferences... > Privacy ), or reset Safari (Safari > Reset..), or Empty Cache (Safari > Empty).
