Irritating UI "bugs" when renaming and deleting images

I have been using iPhoto for a couple of years now, and there are some minor glitches in the UI that simply frustrates the **** out of me in the new '08 version. Perhaps it's due to "wrong" usage, so please tell me if I can avoid them:
Firstly, I'm often viewing and comparing my images in fullscreen when cleaning up a large batch of vacation photos, but when I apple+backspc. to delete an image, it jumps to the start of the Event instead of showing me the image before/after the one I deleted - WHY!? This is only in fullscreen view - if I space-view it goes to the next picture as expected?
Secondly, there is apparently no shortcut for renaming an image, when viewing the thumbnails in an event or album. Numeric enter doesn't work (as ie. in iTunes), neither does (Windows) F2 or anything I could think of at least. Is there a shortcut that I just missed - please tell me!
This could seem rather minor, but my library counts 5800+ images, and I spend literally days in this program when I'm sorting new Events, so if these issues could be addressed either by an update or if I just need to know some little trick, I would be a much happier customer.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
when I apple+backspc. to delete an image, it jumps to the start of the Event
Yes, that's a bug that's been reported before. Report it at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html as the more reports the more likely it will come to the attention of the developers.
As far as renaming or titling in the thumbnail mode, you have to first click on the title so the title field is activated. Then you can enter any title you'd like.
You can also batch title files by using the Photos->Batch Change->Title menu option. This will rename them all the same or add a sequential number to the end of the title.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Feature Request: Functions for Renaming and Deleting LrDevelopPresets

    As it stands, there is no way to delete an LrDevelopPreset programmatically - short of deleting the develop preset lrtemplate file, but even then the effect doesn't take place until after restarting Lightroom.
    Likewise, there is no good way to rename an LrDevelopPreset.
    Rename and delete functions would be very helpful to plugins that work with lrdevelopresets.

  • Finder crashes when renaming or deleting a file

    Hello,
    on my MacMini I have Snow Leopard (10.6.2) installed and have a lot of troubles with finder.
    Every time i tried to rename a file it crashed. So i did some research and found out that StuffIt used to be a problem but i didn't have it installed. So i search further more and found out that deleting finder preferences may be a solution. I did that an restarted and than renaming files was possible.
    As it deleted my preferences I then switched back to the multiple column view and tried deleting a file. Crash. Switched back to the icon view... it worked...
    So i guess the multiple column view has a bug in it...
    The reason I switched to a Mac was NOT to have problems like that....
    Here is a Crash-log for the finder when renaming a file:
    http://paste.ubuntuusers.de/397650/
    Maybe it helps you fixing this problem.
    Thanks, Georg

    I can assure you that multiple column view works fine, even when deleting a file. The problem I'm afraid is with you. Have you tried repairing permissions?

  • User Interface bug when renaming tracks in list views

    When renaming tracks in the list views, there is a user interface bug that makes it impossible to see what you're doing.  When you select a track in the list view, this is what it looks like:
    Note how the text is white on the darker blue background.  When you click again, to open the inline text editor to rename, this is what you get:
    The background color of the text editor is white, just like the text, so when you type, you can't see what you're typing, nor can you see where in the original text your text insertion cursor is located.
    Thanks!
    Steve.

    I'm frustrated with this same problem. In my case this happens only in my 10.5 macbook air and not in my 10.4 macbook pro. I've been renaming files in the same way in 10.2/10.3 and this never happened. Should be a bug. I've been searching for this issue and found this post at last - I really wonder why there aren't so many people mentioning this.

    I cannot select any image individually, if I click on one cell all images are un-selected automatically.
    After pressing ESC and then Cmd+A I'm able to select all images in the spreadsheet but I don´t know
    how can I select an image and delete it?
    This simple process is getting really frustrating.
    Any help/hint is welcome!

    If you pasted the image into a cell.  select the cell, then open the cell formatter.  Change the cell background fill to "No Fill":

  • Firmware Management and Deleting Images/Packages

    I was trying to delete some older firmware packages and was wondering if anyone had an easier way to remove the associated images. If you simply remove a package and the image is still there you get all sorts of Major warnings (image-deleted).
    It would be much easier if you delete an old package ie. ucs-k9-bundle-b-series.2.0.4b.B.bin that is automatically deletes it's related Image so these errors don't appear, especially if you have upgraded a few times.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-manager/110475-ucs-firmware-management-00.html
    Thanks

    Removing packages will reclaim space, and can only be done, if there are no more any references to images !
    Exactly, I want to first remove the references so I can then delete the older packages. If not, I am left with annoying error messages referring to the deleted package...

    Hello
    You're quite welcome. Glad to hear it works well so far.
    As for variable extension, are you trying to do this? -
    Provided a subfolder is named 'ddd' and its 1st file in lexical order is named 'mmm.eee' (mmm is a name stem and eee is a name extension), you are to rename the 1st file as 'ddd.eee' regardless of what the 'eee' is.
    If so, try the following script.
    I also revised the code a bit so that it can now properly handle the cases where less than 2 files is in a subfolder.
    Hope this may help,
    H
    --SCRIPT b
    main()
    on main()
    script o
    property dd : {}
    property ff : {}
    property mss0 : "Choose top folder."
    property mss1 : "You're processing items in tree rooted at:" & return & return
    property mss2 : "Done."
    set d0 to choose folder with prompt mss0
    display dialog mss1 & d0 with icon 1
    tell application "Finder"
    try
    set dd to d0's folders as alias list
    on error from erob -- optional (not required) under OSX 10.5 or later
    set dd to erob as alias as list
    end try
    end tell
    repeat with d in my dd
    set d to d's contents
    tell application "Finder"
    set ff to (d's files) as list
    if ff is not {} then
    set ff to (sort ff by name) as list -- optional if Finder always gets items in lexical order
    set f1 to my ff's item 1
    set e1 to f1's name extension
    if e1 is not "" then set e1 to "." & e1
    set f1's name to d's name & e1
    set ff to my ff's rest
    if ff is not {} then delete ff
    end if
    end tell
    end repeat
    display dialog mss2 with icon 1 giving up after 2

  • RSS Feeds in Mail 3.0 Keep Appearing as Unread even When Read and Deleted

    Hi there,
    I've just upgraded to Leopard (10.5, 9A581) and was pleased to find that Mail 3.0 (912.1/912) now has RSS feed capability.
    However, I've noticed a problem and it's very annoying. Every time I quit Mail and re-open it, it displays ALL my RSS feeds as new as unread, even though I had previously read them and actually deleted them.
    I assume this is a bug but hope it can be fixed soon as it's making RSS reading in Mail unusable. I have 198 RSS feeds and my Mail icon is currently showing 651 unread messages as there are 651 RSS items that I have previously read and deleted within Mail 3.0. In fact, I've deleted them all three times today alone but I'm not doing it again as I'm wasting my time, as every time I quit Mail and open it again, they all re-appear.
    Thanks for any advice on this.
    Ste

    I'm getting the same behavior in 10.5.1 with Mail 3.1.

  • Latest PS CC, generator bug when renaming layers

    OS: Win7 64bit
    Problem:
    I can't rename layers while photshop is generating assets. I have a big web layout PSD file with hundrets of layers, 74 of them are named so PS generates them as assets. When "Generate Assets" is checked, photoshop aborts every attempt to rename any layer by itself and writes a "color change" to the protocol.
    I uploaded a gif file to illustrate what is happening: https://i.imgur.com/u3vBFje.gif
    On the left is my layers pallet, on the right is the protocol panel. Everytime I double click to rename a layer, the edit is aborted and the protocol shows "color change".
    This bug is immensely frustrating, since the only workaround is to wait some time until photoshop has finished generating the assets. When I uncheck "Generate Assets", the bug appears as well, since photoshop deletes all the assets in the folder.
    I noticed that the same bug appears when you use the "Remote connection" feature, everytime photoshop sends an update to a remotely connected device, the layer naming is aborted. Maybe these bugs are related, you guys should check for that.
    Thanks and kind regards

  • Bug when adding a af:image into a ADS enabled table

    This looks like a bug, but wanted to check with others to see if they had seen it.
    Enable MDS with a column in a table
    For example:
    <af:table value="#{ContactCollectionBean}" var="row" id="t2" horizontalGridVisible="false" verticalGridVisible="false"
    width="300" columnStretching="column:c3">
    <af:column sortable="false" headerText="User Name" id="c2" width="100">
    <af:outputText value="#{row.displayName}" id="aot1"/>
    </af:column>
    <af:column sortable="false" headerText="Status" id="c3" noWrap="false" width="200">
    <af:outputText value="#{row.status}" id="aot2"/>
    </af:column>
    All works fine (row.status gets updated when new events are pushed.
    Now enter a af:image tag as a new column or as a new element in an existing column.
    The value getting updated now changes to be the displayName. It looks like it gets confused by the af:image and on update does the column "one" to the left of the column it should...

    Hi,
    the update of the table is by the index of the attribute. So if the image also is part of the row object then this should work

  • Unusual Bug when creating pdf from image files

    Hi I have a very mindboggling problem which I cant seem to get my head around.
    basically I am trying to create a pdf using a large amount of image files, these images are scans of pages of a book. so I have been trying to create a pdf file from these images, and everytime i try, it all looks ok except for one page which comes up smaller in size than the rest which is a big problem and very unusual. If I change the view of acrobat so that it shows two pages at a time then this is clearly visable where one page is normal and the page next to it is like a third of the size. Ive checked the image file properties for that page and they are more or less the same as the rest, the dimensions of the image file too, but when I add it into a PDF it seems to shrink in size, any ideas as to why? any help would be much appreciated! (and I hope what I said made sense lol )
    Thanks

    Hi Davew000

  • A script to batch rename and relink images?

    Hello, everyone!
    First of all, I did search for this before asking and found many similar scripts for this, but as I don't know how to make or edit scripts, I couldn't use them...
    I work at a company that makes school books. Each InDesign file we make can have hundreds of images, of varied extensions (.ai, .eps, .tif, .psd).
    We now need to rename those images to a default naming system we defined. This is taking hours, even days to do manually.
    Those images currently have varied names, so we'd need to ignore what's there, we just need a configurable prefix (like "EF6_ESP_C1_"), then a 4-digit number starting at 0001 and numbering the rest (if there's say a .tif and then a .ai, it'd have to be 0001.tif and 0002.ai), then the extension it already had.
    Preferably, but not required, if it could read that the image already had an "EQ" in the file name, it could rename them to another prefix and count those separately from 0001, as we work Equation images separately, but if this can't be done or is too difficult to do, then just have them named and numbered with the others.
    Could anyone be so kind as to help me with this? Thank you very much!

    Try this,
    var doc = app.activeDocument,
        links = doc.allGraphics, count = 1, eqcount = 1, a = "0000";
    for(var i=links.length-1;i>=0;i--)
            if(links[i].itemLink.name.match(/^EQ.+/))
                    var ext = links[i].itemLink.name.substr(links[i].itemLink.name.lastIndexOf(".")),
                        old = File(links[i].itemLink.filePath),
                        eqnum = (eqcount++).toString(),
                        newname = "EQ_EF6_ESP_C1_" + a.substring(0, a.length - eqnum.length) + eqnum + ext;
                    old.rename(newname);
                    links[i].itemLink.relink(File(old.toString().replace(links[i].itemLink.name,newname)))
            else
                    var ext = links[i].itemLink.name.substr(links[i].itemLink.name.lastIndexOf(".")),
                        old = File(links[i].itemLink.filePath),
                        num = (count++).toString(),
                        newname = "EF6_ESP_C1_" + a.substring(0, a.length - num.length) + num + ext
                    old.rename(newname);
                    links[i].itemLink.relink(File(old.toString().replace(links[i].itemLink.name,newname)))
    Please note:It is not reversible.

    Chinna
