IRS Forms

In the past I have always been able to go to the IRS website and fill in forms and then print them for filing with the IRS.  Today when I tried to do that, the form would come up with the blue shaded lines where you can fill in, but then changed and mentioned something about contacting the original owner or something of that sort. I could then no longer fill in the form.  I found the link on the web page to click to create PDF using Acrobat.com. I registered and downloaded Acrobrat 9.3.3 but am still unable to use the fill-in feature on the IRS website.  Am I going to have to take a step backward and print them to fill out by hand now?  If not please explain to me how to be able to fill in the IRS forms online.  I cannot figure out how to do it.

I downloaded the upgrade to Acrobat X last week.
My problem with the IRS forms: I can download the forms from the IRS, I can fill them out, but I can't print them. When I try to send the job to either of my printers, I get the message "save form" or something, so I save it. Then I open the saved form in Acrobat X and try to print it. The same thing happens again, with the ultimate message in both cases "document failed to print". This happened with the quarterly 941 yesterday and with the annual 940 today.
However if I bring up the form on another computer with an older version (9) the forms print just fine, on the same printer I was trying to print to from MY computer.
This isn't just specific to X, it was the same on v.8.
Any ideas?

Does you printer/RIP support protocols other than AppleTalk? If it does, then I would change it to something like HP Jetdirect-Socket.

  • How to fill out a form such as a IRS form

For an example, lets say you take the 1040 form from the IRS, the user enters input for the form in the console or gui and the input is placed in the correct places on the IRS form. You can't make your own form, it has to be the official IRS form. So for example, when the user inputs first name and last name and social security #, it would be placed in the correct spots on the actual form and then if you print out the form or view it, you will see the input. I have never done this before, How can this be done? Thanks alot for your help

Theoretically it is a simple matter. Practically a hair raising experience. However, the point of the matter is that while printing your formating must be perfectly aligned. That apart, you must also be cautious of "printer specific" vaguries. java.awt and java.awt.print packages have many classes for the purpose - you can also go for third party printing packages.

  • IRS Form 941 un-fillable line using Preview

There is one line item on the January 2007 version of the fill-in IRS Form 941 that I cannot select and fill-in information using Preview 3.0.8 (409): "Name (not your trade name)". With every other item on the form, I can tab or mouse into, but not this one. Is this a known bug affecting more than me? Is there a fix?

Thanks for pointing out the issue with this form. I checked it out in Reader 8 and in Acrobat 8 and it worked fine (just like you said). I also opened it in Preview and it had the same problem as you mentioned. I opened the file in Acrobat and looked at the properties of the field, and could not find a reason for it.
I did all this because I work at the IRS in the Forms area - specializing in fillable PDFs - and we take any problem with our forms seriously. You can let us know about problems with our forms by using the "Contact Us" part of the www.irs.gov website. If you leave your email, they will reply back to you.
I will pull the form apart and see if there is anything under the covers that might be causing this, but at first glance, I could not find anything.
We do not recommend using Preview when interacting with IRS forms though. You get more consistent results with Adobe Acrobat or Reader. And the form is saveable using Reader.
I will let you know what I find out.

Recently, IRS forms will not display on my screen. I have a Mac and it used to display these forms on the screen. Could the problem be caused by a recent version of Firefox Mozilla.

Check to see if your Adobe Acrobat & Reader Plug-in is current; IRS forms use Adobe Reader/Acrobat for their forms. Also see if your Java and Shockwave Flash (aka Adobe Flash) are current.

I cannot export an IRS form to Excel

    Hi CEDESPAR,
What is your workflow to do that. Are you trying to open the form in browser?
Or you are downloading the form on your computer first and then trying to fill it.
Which application of Adobe you are using?

  • PDF saving in Preview with IRS forms ruins PDF

I am trying to save my tax form after filling it out in preview and when you "save as" the entire pdf shifts to the top right margin cutting off the edge. It prints correct and if you print - save as pdf it is also correct. However, print -save as pdf destroys the editable fields.

    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Phew, I'm glad to find out that it isn't my Preview. I am trying to do the exact thing, and got the same issue. But I'm glad to hear that it prints correctly at least, although I haven't tried it myself. It's VERY annoying why the pdf shifts like that.
Regarding why the editable fields are destroyed, I'm almost certain that it's just how Preview is. I'm quote-ing the help from Preview Help. Topic is "Filling out PDF forms."
"... However, after you save the document, you can no longer edit any of its fields. Before filling out a form, you may want to create a copy of it, so you can go back to the original. And before saving the form, be sure it's filled out completely and correctly. ..."

  • The IRS forms in .pdf format do not open, but they open on IE.

Nothing except a new tab opens when I try to open any tax form from IRS site.

I'm using Windows 8, MSIE 8, and I have Adobe Acrobat PRO 9 installed on my machine, but when I open the document on my hard drive it opens with bookmarks showing on the left.  When I go to the URL where I posted the very same document on the Web in my browser it opens the doc in the browser add-in and the bookmarks do not appear.  I have also tried using #pagemode=Bookmarks which does nothing for me.  Lastly, I can go to other documents on the Web that do work such as:  http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/acrobat/PDFOpenParameters.pdf which seems to open just fine with bookmarks showing in the browser view of the .pdf.   I compared all the properties of my file with a saved version of this example .pdf above and they are identical.  No idea why it is doing it... it's very frustrating though and I know others have posted the same issue all over the net.
    Does that help?

  • I need a program to create IRS form 1099 misc....

The program I've used for the last four years will not work on my mew iMAC....Anyone know of a good program to print, efile and store info for next year?

There are many programs including the IRS own efile forms.  Do a Google search and read the reviews.  What works for one may not work for many.

This is where is gets confusing to me. I have about 3 versions of the Reader on the computer starting at about 6 to 8.0. I have tried to download and install 8.1.2 and I get the error message 1714 "Older version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 can not be removed. Contact your tech support."
This is a free version and has no tech support.

  • Finding IRS tax web site, using Firefox, I found lists of IRS forms etc., however I can't open any of them.

I use AOL Firefox as my home page. Problem: I can't download a IRS tax form, etc after getting to the IRS Tax web site. I have a MAC OS computer 10.7.5 version, 2.5 processor, 4 GB memory. Using MAC's Safari I have no problem. I prefer to use Firefox.

As long as you do not delete your Firefox personal settings or application data, they should remain after a reinstall.
Don't run the Firefox uninstaller, simply run the installer that you download. This will just install over your previous installation.
<b>Note:</b> To be 100% safe, I would recommend backing up your Firefox application data folder.

  • U.S. IRS Form W-7 ITIN Application

I am an Australian Self Publisher www.nixonspublishing.id.au currently selling both ebook and printed books in the www.blurb.com bookstore. Like many others who have invested a lot of time and money in that magic application  iBooks Author I wish to avail myself of publishing in the iBookstore. Even though Apple carry on business in Australia and deal in this market in value I am still required to have an ITIN in order to register for this service. My guess is that is because I might sell something to a US citizen [thats a novel ideal]. It should be noted there is no such requirement in dealing with blurb I guess that is because they to have an Australian presence and are carrying on business in this part of the World.
My application has just been rejected by the IRIS because I answered question 'a[x]' in the affirmative ' Nonresident alien required to get ITIN to claim tax treaty benefit' and failed to provide the correction information in relation to question h[ ] which requires me to state the 'Exception I am entitled to claim' and the 'treaty article number' that applies to that detail. Given that I did engross the treaty in the first place which just happened to be signed by Ronald Reagan for the US and John Howard for Australia I am not quite sure what the finer details of this Tax Treaty as applied by the IRS actually entail.
The detail for the inexperienced which on the face of it appears to be quite a trivial matter appears to be cloaked in a volume of documentation that you probably could not jump over. The finer points as to what is required are not known to the Australian Tax Office [who actually benefit from this treaty], The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs [who probably negiotated the treaty] and Trade the US Consulate [Canberra] or Business Services [Sydney] if fact I have been told that the closest IRA representative which conducts business and can answer questions in our time zone is in China. Unfortunately several phone calls at considerable expense have failed to make a connection or get a response I guess the IRS representative is  to busy with the Chinese or perhaps is subject to rotation which apparently happens in US Government circles at this time of the year.
Now I could take the risk and submit again but that might mean another rejection which based on the last application was a waste of 6 weeks. Alternatively I could get up at 4am Australian time and actually ring the processor of my original application but unfortunately I am not an early riser.
My guess is that someone out there probably an Australia has already been put though the jump and hopefully prepared to share with me the magic associated with form W-7.
Oh and for our US cousins the cost in Australia to have a single page A4 document apostilised is $60.00 which actual pales in significance when compared to the cost to get to the Department duly authorised to perform these notary services. And more importantly I am not encouraged to commit an offense by sending them my origional Australian Drivers licence not unless I am not planning to drive for 6-10 weeks.
A response any response would be appreciated. Ant..

Thanks for the response but on my reading EIN's do not apply to persons who do not live in the US or one of its Territories and that the principal officer must have a valid US issued taxpayer identification number.
Not so. I'm in Australia, I'm registered with Apple with an EIN, and everything is just fine. The royalty payments are arriving on schedule.
Given that I happen to be the pricipal officer and live in Australia I don't have a valid taxpaer identification number and as a consequence I am obliged to apply for an ITIN a process on my understanding that is applicable to all aliens.
I don't know where you got this info from, but I don't believe it is correct. As a publisher, I registered with Apple under my company name, and I got an EIN for my company in ten minutes over the phone, no problem.

    came through

    Hi, Brad.
Sorry for the issues that you're having. ExportPDF will export the content of the PDF - the text, images and layout. However, if you PDF was a fillable form, ExportPDF cannot export the form data.
Let me know if this didn't answer your question, or if you have additional questions or issues.
