Irs.gov problem

The IRS website, irs.gov uses Adobe Reader to access its
forms, instructions, etc. Recently, I have not be able to open the
IRS forms. Either the screen is blank or a message "The file is
damaged and cannot be repaired" is shown. The IRS website help
person recommended that I uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader,
which I have done, but which did not work.
Thanks for any help.
Eva

  • Why is the process named geod in my iOS simulator trying to access irs.gov?

I'm developing an app that has absolutely nothing to do with anything other than specific external audio-related hardware. While running my app in the iOS simulator, I got a message from my LittleSnitch (that's a firewall) that the process `geod (iOS)` is trying to access `irs.gov`. As if that wasn't enough, the next attempt was to `azadiradio.org`. I blocked both but I'm wondering: what is going on within my iOS simulator? Why would it contact the US tax authority? Does the real iOS do the same?

This is just a side effect of cloud computing. Everybody uses Amazon AWS. Little Snitch just can't represent the reverse DNS correctly.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.10 crashes on OSX 10.9.5.  Crashes about once every three times when opening a file, searching an open file... started 11 months ago, reinstalling doesn't fix problem.

For about 11 months Adobe Reader performance has gotten worse and worse.  It crashes about every third time I try to open a file, and frequently when I search for text strings using the find function.  I have re-installed the program, I have the latest installation according to Adobe.

I've saved two files on my desktop:
    f1040.pdf - downloaded from www.irs.gov - 187 KB
    afmod07.2.1g.pdf - downloaded from my intranet - 1,04MB
I've powered off my PC and restarted for each file. I've opened files with double-click on them. I've encountered the same problem, when double-clicked on files in task manager two Acrord32.exe appeared, the PC was doing anything for about 10 second, after that I've encountered no activity in task manager (numbers not vary) for other 10 seconds (like freeze) and after that other about 10 seconds of loading. So after about 30 seconds the file opens with stand-alone Acrobat Reader (11.0.10).
If I retry now (after the first slow startup "of the day") the file opens in 2-3 seconds.
    So:
    - first open of the day or rebooting PC: 30-45 seconds
    - second open of the file: 2-3 seconds
This is happening only with PDFs with forms.

I'm trying to use the PDF but I'm ever problems.

    Hi Joanne,
Please let us know what you mean by "not working."
But all IRS forms are available as PDF files, so I'm not sure why you're converting to PDF. You can get the 1099-Misc PDF from here: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Form-1099-MISC,-Miscellaneous-Income-

  • IRS Form 941 un-fillable line using Preview

There is one line item on the January 2007 version of the fill-in IRS Form 941 that I cannot select and fill-in information using Preview 3.0.8 (409): "Name (not your trade name)". With every other item on the form, I can tab or mouse into, but not this one. Is this a known bug affecting more than me? Is there a fix?

Thanks for pointing out the issue with this form. I checked it out in Reader 8 and in Acrobat 8 and it worked fine (just like you said). I also opened it in Preview and it had the same problem as you mentioned. I opened the file in Acrobat and looked at the properties of the field, and could not find a reason for it.
I did all this because I work at the IRS in the Forms area - specializing in fillable PDFs - and we take any problem with our forms seriously. You can let us know about problems with our forms by using the "Contact Us" part of the www.irs.gov website. If you leave your email, they will reply back to you.
I will pull the form apart and see if there is anything under the covers that might be causing this, but at first glance, I could not find anything.
We do not recommend using Preview when interacting with IRS forms though. You get more consistent results with Adobe Acrobat or Reader. And the form is saveable using Reader.
I will let you know what I find out.

This is where is gets confusing to me. I have about 3 versions of the Reader on the computer starting at about 6 to 8.0. I have tried to download and install 8.1.2 and I get the error message 1714 "Older version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 can not be removed. Contact your tech support."
This is a free version and has no tech support.

  • Firefox File handling in KDE problem [SOLVED]

Recently I've noticed that Firefox doesn't give me a default app to open a file anymore. I mean, if I click on a PDF file, it used to open a dialog offering me to open it with kpdf (default). Now that same dialog just offers me to browse for the application I want to open the file with, so I have to manually browse to /opt/kde/bin/kpdf each and every time ! And the same with other file types. Does anybody else experience this?
You can test it clicking on this link:
    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.
EDIT: I think this is related to this bug, since my /etc/mailcap and /etc/mime.types are empty except for java entry:
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/6801
EDIT2: No, it doesn't have anything to do with that bug. It should work without /etc/mailcap.

    Ok, I found the problem.
In order to have Firefox offering you the default application to open a certain file, you need to install libgnome !
I removed bluefish some days ago with its dependencies and since then it stopped working.
libgnome depends on gnome-mime-data, gconf, gnome-vfs and libbonobo, but none of these are enough to make Firefox work correctly. It really needs libgnome.
Not sure if it would be a good idea to put these dependencies on Firefox. Probably not. Each one should decide if it's worth or not. Maybe some info would be useful, though.

  • Dreamweaver file dialogue problems

    Hi,
I am running Dreamweaver 8 (for about a day or so) and have
been using Dreamweaver for a few years now. The files dialogue box
was fine but has now lost all the options like check in file and
whether you want to look at a local sit or remote site these were
there earlier today and I can’t find how to get them back..
Also when I click manage sites and edit I get nothing like the site
definitions dialogue just the FTP set up, my preferences for
Dreamweaver 8 also don’t look the same as they did in the
    help.
Has anyone else had these problems? I have done a full update
    as well…
    Thanks any help much appreciated…

In the problems and solutions center I did enter

  • IRS File Damaged

After downloading http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p527.pdf I got the reeor message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." When I reported the error to the IRS I was referred to a page that contained "All of our files are verified prior to posting on IRS.gov. If you have difficulty downloading or printing a PDF file, it may be due to software settings, configuration problems, or other issues." A statement I interpret as "GTH it's not our problem." I have had no problem with a wide variety of other IRS documents and an even wider variety of documents from other sources. My operating system is Windows XP Home, Ver 5.1.2600  SP 3. My Acrobat Reader is AcroRd32.exe Ver: 10.1.1.33. Any suggestions?

Re 1st reply George Johnson: That is a reason to not entirely blame the IRS, but I wonder how my system could have a flaw that only shows up with one out of quite a few files.

  • PDF saving in Preview with IRS forms ruins PDF

I am trying to save my tax form after filling it out in preview and when you "save as" the entire pdf shifts to the top right margin cutting off the edge. It prints correct and if you print - save as pdf it is also correct. However, print -save as pdf destroys the editable fields.

Phew, I'm glad to find out that it isn't my Preview. I am trying to do the exact thing, and got the same issue. But I'm glad to hear that it prints correctly at least, although I haven't tried it myself. It's VERY annoying why the pdf shifts like that.
Regarding why the editable fields are destroyed, I'm almost certain that it's just how Preview is. I'm quote-ing the help from Preview Help. Topic is "Filling out PDF forms."
"... However, after you save the document, you can no longer edit any of its fields. Before filling out a form, you may want to create a copy of it, so you can go back to the original. And before saving the form, be sure it's filled out completely and correctly. ..."

  • 1099MISC output file for IRS

    Hi:
I need quick clarification on 1099MISC output file (DMEE format tree: IDWTFILE_US_1099). In the T record, it has SAP contact information as vendor at the end the record.
I wanted to check if we need to change the DMEE file (Format Tree: IDWTFILE_US_1099) to remove SAP address and contact information from T record OR we upload to IRS with SAP information on it? In the file format, these fields are defined as constant.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.
    Rahul

You should upload the files to the IRS with the SAP information in the T record.  The vendor information in the T record is the vendor that provided the software used to generate the file - which would be SAP.  This information is required by the IRS.
    See also IRS Publication 1220:  Specifications for Filing Forms 1097-BTC, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, 8935, and W-2G Electronically (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1220.pdf).

  • Making an editable copy of IRS Instruction worksheets

I want to make a PDF file out of a single page worksheet from IRS Instructions on Form 4562 and then turn that PDF file into an Excel or Word document from which I can add or remove text.  Is that possible?

    Hi, goof50.
    Thanks for the question.
I found this PDF as the Form 4562 Instructions <<http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i4562.pdf>>. I assume what you're trying to do is create an editable Word or Excel version of Pages 20, 21 or 22? Can you confirm?
CreatePDF and ExportPDF will allow you to convert a PDF into an editable Word or Excel file. Currently it converts the entire PDF - you can't specify a single page or page range. That's a good idea which someone could add to our Ideas list <<http://forums.adobe.com/community/createpdf?view=idea#>>
    Thanks.

  • Viewing Schedules on IRS Application for 501(c) 3 status

    Hi,
I am filling out the IRS application to apply for 501 (c) 3 status.  When I check some YES boxes I am also asked to click on a button next to the check mark that is supposed to open a Schedule to complete with more detailed information.  However, the Schedule does not come on the screen... Instead, a message opens telling me I have an older version of Adobe.  Despite downloading the latest version (XI) I'm still unable to get any of the Schedules (there're different one like "E'', "H", etc.) to come on the screen!  Help!

    Hi, Pat:
Thanks for replying.  My operating system type is is a 32-bit OS.  I have Windows 7 Professional.  My Adobe version is XI (11.0.07).  The Adobe Reader is XI.

    Pat,
go ahead and scroll down to Part V.  Section 5c. where it says "NOTE".  At the end of that line click on the 'SCHEDULE C" buttton.  It takes you to a window message that says.....
    Please wait...
If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF
viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows®, Mac, or Linux® by
    visiting http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_download.

The message comes up everytime I click another button to access yet another SCHEDULE (as I move down the application).  But no schedule comes up.  Only the message above.  I may be using the wrong READER ?  But I understand it is the latest version ???   Anyway,
thanks for your help in advance, Pat.  I appreciate your interest.

  • Safari and IRS secure website

Have been using Safari 3.0.4 (523.12.2) for sometime on several macs to obtain federal id numbers from the following site: https://sa.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/legal-structure.jsp
This morning this would work on my PowerbookG4 but not on the Intel iMacs. It said it could not establish a secure connection. I have read a post concerning keychain and X509 anchors but do find that file listed in the keychain.app or in the library>keychains. We were able to install firefox and get this to work but I have having to keep remembering to run a different browser. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
    Thank you. Kathleen H.

The IRS site seems to have some strange certificate issues with Safari, possibly because their addresses aren't set up correctly.
Try their host servers directly: https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/legal-structure.jsp or https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/modiein/individual/legal-structure.jsp
