Is 10GB of storage in MBP possible?

Hello
I have a 2012 MBP (non-retina) with 4GB of ram so my question is if it is possible to just buy 1 8GB? (i would keep one 2GB and add one 8GB)

64 bit processors need their RAM modules in matching amounts.
Get two 8GB and you'll have 16GB total or two 4GB for 8GB.
Since they are sold in kits, this is how you get them anyway.
don't toss the old RAM, you may need it if the new RAM has issues or you take the machine in to Apple for repair and the RAM doesn't come back if they switch the machine.

You can't buy additional storage for your iPhone.
You must've purchased additional storage for iCloud.
iCloud storage does not increase the internal storage capacity of your iPhone.
If you want to free up some internal storage on your phone, you will have to remove apps, music, books or movies to make room.

  • Storage migration not possible after removing shared vhdx

I have two VM:s in VMM that I use for tests. Just completed a test of shared storage and removed the shared disks from WSFC in the cluster and then after shutting down the nodes I removed the disks from the VM:s using powershell. Now when I try to storage
migrate the VM:s (that no longer have any shared storage, HasSharedStorage = false) it says "The specified path is not a valid folder path on <host>". VMM 2012 R2 UR5. Other VM's migrate fine - just the two that had shared storage that
    doesn't

That's true in general and maybe that's the problem here. It's not like there is a load of information about how to manage VMs with shared disks. For removing the shared disks I shut down the VM:s and used Hyper-V manager to remove the disks. I then refreshed
the VM: in VMM and it picked up the change without complaining.
In complete lack of procedures of how to do this, and other important stuff as how you perform configuration changes in VMM on VM:s with shared disks I think all that can be said is that there are no procedures. If you google how to reconfigure such a VM
in VMM you'll find that ONE way is to perform a change in VMM, choose the Script button and then remove all the options except the supported ones from the script and the run it in the VMM console. This is what I usually do.
Maybe if I hadn't had this problem if I used Remove-SCVirtualHardDisk instead. I'm far from sure but it's a possibility
This is just a test setup so I'm not going to spend time on researching it. However it's a good example of how immature shared VHDx is and for anyone considering it I can only recommend them to seek other options if at all possible. We have several virtual
clusters using shared VHDx and it's not pretty. It violates most of the stuff that is great with virtualization and ties the fabric to the resources. Not beeing able to storage migrate a disk is just not practically acceptable.
This is a bug of some sorts - be it functionality or lacking documentation

  • Back up storage on MBP 15" mountain Lion

    Hi there,
    Question regarding back up storage.
I back up my MBP to an external drive with time machine.....but looking at the System Information>storage it shows there is 208 Gigs of storage.
Is this redundant? Or required for back-ups locally?
    Cheers,
    Jay

I believe TM creates local snapshots, which is what you're seeing.

  • Looking for safe way free up flash storage on MBP 15 inch retina display?

My MacBook Pro 15 inch with retina display is  mid 2012.
    2.6 GH Intel core i7.
    Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Running OS X 10.9.
    500 GB Flash Storage
    Use iCloud.
    Problem:
9.3 GB free out of 499 GB.
Does anyone know of a safe,  somewhat uncomplicated way to free some of this flash storage?
    Thank you very much.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • I have 10gb free storage, but when I open FCP it goes to zero

I have a MacBook Air with 120gb storage, of which 10 is free. But when I open Final Cut Pro it all disappears and I'm left with zero space making the program slow and unuseable! I don't know why this is happening.

Quite a few reports of SSDs losing free space with FCPX.
To use the software with that small a capacity, you need to use a fast external drive for your events and projects.

  • Removing/reinstalling RAM on Retina MBPs - possible?

Hey guys. I'm probably in a relatively unique situation here. Purchased 2.3GHz rMBP when it first came out, and got the 16GB RAM upgrade. Fast-forward a few months, and it slipped out of its case while I was walking down the street and the screen shattered and case was severely damaged. I then purchased a 2.4GHz 2013 rMBP with 8GB of RAM. The damaged rMBP is still functioning fine - I/O still works and the SSD is working fine, too, so I managed to migrate across using a Thunderbolt cable.
I'll be removing the SSD shortly and putting it into an OWC enclosure so I have a fast portable external drive.
My question is whether or not it's possible to remove the 16GB of RAM in the damaged rMBP (remember, only the screen was damaged here) and install it into the new rMBP in place of the current 8GB.
Haven't managed to find any definitive info. I know Apple has said it's non-upgradeable, but my understanding is that that is primarily because the RAM (just like the SSD) is proprietary. Given I have spare RAM sitting in the damaged rMBP, I imagine it's probably not that difficult to remove and reinstall in the new rMBP?
    Any input welcome. Cheers.

Nope. The latest models have on-board RAM. No memory slots. The RAM really is not upgradeable and has nothing to do with it being proprietary.

  • Wireless Backup / data storage - Is this possible ?

    Folks
I'm using a Netgear DG834GT wireless router/modem to access broadband internet here in the UK with my Powerbook.
If I buy a Network harddrive and plug this into the Netgear router will I be able to access the harddrive 'wirelessly' ?
Anyone got any experience of this ?

Yes, it is possible. I have a Buffalo LinkStation 250 G/B NAS connected to a LinkSys 8 port 10/100 Hub that also connects to my Airport Base and also to my Windows 2K (ugh) workstation.
I can access this NAS both from my PB and PC. I must admit however, it is dreadfully slow trying to backup anything via wireless.
When I want to do serious backups, I run an ethernet cable from my PB to the LinkSys hub so that I can backup at ethernet speed.

  • HT4847 if i already have paid for 10gb of storage how do i pay just the difference to upgrade?

I need more storage but dont want to pay 40 a year when i aleady paid 20. How do i upgrade without paying twice

The disc you used would have been the install disc that came with your Mac. These can only be used on that as they are made for that specific model.
Make sure your machine meets requirements
Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    At least 2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later (Mac OS X 10.6.8 is recommended)
7 GB of free hard drive space is recommended
Once you've purchased it would be a good idea to create a bootable DVD or USB

  • Short-term storage of MBP on its side

    Hi,
I have a late 2007 model MacBook Pro 15" that I am considering leaving in my locker at school overnight on a regular basis. To do this, I must store the computer (in a protective case) on its side, otherwise it will not fit. Does that harm it in any way? Would it make a difference whether the computer was shut down or in sleep mode?
    Thanks for any advice!
    -Harry

    Absolutly not!
Treat the MBP as a pizza and always keep it parallel to the ground.! Even tipping it a few degrees, less than a 1/4 inch, can cause most of the problems you read about here! I have leveled all me desks as I found a few off them were just off enough to cause serious issues! Mac sells levels for just this purpose.
    Just kidding! Sorry couldn't resist!
There should be NO problem storing the MBP in any position. Myself I turn off the MBP when traveling but will leave it on with certain apps. active to save juice if I think I'll need them.
Now I don't know about running it in different positions. Some folks I know use it as a HD and plug keyboard and display and close the MBP. For some reason I think I'd try to stick to the pizza scenario and keep it level in this case but I've not heard anything about this.
Sorry again for the joke.... I guess I'm not that sorry or I wouldn't post it huh?

  • HDD with Mac OS X from old to the new MBP - possible?

    Hi,
recently I found that the power of my MBP (Mb134) is not enough - I'm running a virtual machine and often used to compile a big project.
So I put my eye on the new MBP line. It has faster RAM and allows 8Gb (yeah, even 15" can do this, its just "unsupported").
The only question left: Can I take my 320Gb HDD from my current laptop and install it to my new one with no problems?
Or can I then simply boot from my old HDD using an external USB case?
    Cheers,
    Alex

The Mac OS X version on the old computer's hard drive can't start up the new MacBook Pro; a new copy of the OS will need to be installed from the new computer's original disks before it can be used as the startup disk.
