Is $1299 entry level 21.5 inch 2013 iMac good enough for a novice to learn Logic Pro?

I am wondering if the standard entry level iMac is good enough to learn Logic Pro. From what I have researched the top of the line 2012 Mac mini is more power full than the entry level 2013 iMac and I would end up paying more for the iMac. But I am also thinking about how the new 2013 iMac has the new haswell processor which is supposedly better than the ivy bridge on the 2012 Mac mini (I do not really know about any of this I am just going off of what I have been researching) so the 2012 Mac mini may be more powerful than the 2013 entry level iMac technically but maybe the iMac will run more efficiently because from what I hear it does not get as hot and uses less power or something. Also, should I wait for the Mac mini to come out with a refresh with the has well processor or will I be fine with the current 2012 Mac mini with the ivy bridge processor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. P.S. Does anyone know exactly just how much better if at all the haswell is than the ivy bridge because if it is not that big of an improvement I would just get the current top of the line 2012 Mac mini, as I really would like to get started on learning Logic Pro.

The latest top of the line Mac Mini is much more powerful than the latest bottom of the line iMac..
It is much easier to add your own memory to a Mac Mini than an iMac... and much cheaper!
More memory = better performance
Mac Mini 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 + 4GB RAM = $799
Add 16 GB RAM from Amazon for $160
Total = $959

The MBA is so small and thin many people can't help thinking it is like a Windows netbook - an underpowered toy. It isn't. There's nothing I do on my top end iMac that I can't - and don't - do on my MBA. Of course the iMac has a faster processor, bus speed, and a discrete video card so it is much faster than my MBA. Then again, my computers spend more time waiting for me to do something than I wait for them - and this includes using Photoshop and compiling code.
If I were writing large programs - something like Word for example - I'd want a very fast processor to speed up the compile/debug/compile cycle. But for iOS development your codebase will be much smaller. Frankly I can't see that much difference between a 13" MBA and a 13" MBP for development purposes. Now a top of the line 15" MBP is a different matter with its much faster CPU and separate video card.

  • Would the entry level macbook pro 13" MD101 be good enough for working in After Effects

    Hi guys,
Im looking to purchase the entry level Macbook pro MD 101 for personal uses. I do quite a bit of video rendering and animation - basic stuff in after effects and sometimes Final Cut Pro.
So I was wondering, with the specs the current 13" pro has (2.5GHz i5) would that be enough for me to run after effects and get the job done without me having to throw my macbook on the ground from frustration?
I am currently using the OLD 15" Macbook Pro - late 2008 model (Silver design 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB DDR2 SDRAM) and its working alright for both FCP and AE.
Would this 13" Pro give slightly better performance? Or round about the same?
    Thanks in advance!

Yep, cannot upgrade the 13" graphics.
The graphics card doesn't help with final rendering, it does help while working on the project, i.e. preview compositions before rendering.
The 15" is still a better purchase for final rendering as well, the quadcore processor will certainly be much faster. However, if your only concern is with rendering, the 13" is still ok.
The graphics card can help with rendering if used with nvidia cuda

  • Would the retina 15 inch be a good laptop for 3D animation and design?

Being a student, a laptop is the best for me being as I'm never at my apartment to use a desktop.  It would be maxed out with ram. I want a laptop that can run 3DS Max and Photoshop at the same time and not feel sluggish. If its not possible with this machine please let me know and any advice on what to get is much appriciated.

If your prime purpose is a computer for "new game development programs and graphic rendering programs ...", a notebook, be it an Apple or a Windows machine, should not be considered.  A high performance desktop for the same amount of money will outperform any notebook.
I do not play games, but logic leads me to believe that you should equip yourself with hardware that is similar to what the high end game aficionados use.  Only that way you can develop game applications and determine if they will meet the users needs.
A notebook/laptop by its very nature compromises performance for size and portability.  If there are other reasons that you find compelling to buy an Apple that's fine.  I have bought two MBPs and my next notebook will also be a MBP.  I endorse Apple MBPs and appreciate thier virtues, but I also recognize their shortcomings.
    Ciao.

  • Can't print- 27" 2013 iMac-my epson stylus 3800 pro will not print-i updated driver n added printer in syst prefs-When i print the printer queue opens and shows the job as "stopped"-Supply level "information is not available"-maybe part of problem...thx

I can't print from my  27" late 2013 iMac.  I am using an epson stylus 3800 pro.  I updated driver and added printer in system preferences. When i print the printer queue opens and shows the job as "stopped".  Supply level shows  "information is not available which maybe part of problem...thank you

The first thing you could try is a reset of the printing system. Please note that this action will remove all printers and scanners from the Printers & Scanners preference pane.
With the reset complete, unplug the Epson USB cable from the Mac for a minute and then reconnect it. This action should result in the printer being added again to the Mac automatically. If this does happen, then see if you can print again.
If the printer is not added again automatically, open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add the Epson. Once this is done, then see if you can print again.

  • Is the MacBook Pro 13 inch good enough?

Is the non retina  MacBook Pro 13 core i5 with 4g of ram good enough for nonprofessional  video editing  making apps surfing the web watching videos ? Or can I get a MacBook Air 13 inch ? is these two good  enough for what I want ? And what is the difference between them and the MacBook Pro 13 inch core i7 with 8g of ram ? Is it a big difference between them ? Which one of these three you advice me to go with ?

That will work fine. I would eventually stick 8G of RAM in it though. I have 8G in mine and have run low and started paging out already. Safari and Flash are big RAM hogs.

  • Field due date coming compulsory at entry level

    Hi,
I have created the employee as vendor. When I am using a special gl indicator z with posting key 39 the field u201Cdue dateu201D becomes compulsory entry. When I am using the other key the same field is not compulsory. The settings for the above is as follows-
    1.     Special indicator reconciliation account- The filed status for this account in FS00 is having the u201Cdue dateu201D is optional entry.
    2.     Posting Key Field Status u2013 Here the field u201Cdue dateu201D is optional entry.
Thus in both the settings, account field status and the posting key field status , the due date is optional but it is coming compulsory at entry level. How can I make this field optional at entry level.
Please help to resolve the issue.

I am on my 2nd new (late 2013) Mac Pro. The first one had problems in booting up reliably when 2 monitors were used. I took it to AppleStore and a specialist verified that as well. He reocmmended that I send it back. So I did.
Today is the 8th day of my 2nd Mac Pro. It had problems connecting to wireless keyboard when I first got it. The wireless mouse connected okay and it was just the wireless keyboard that had problems. I contacted AppleCare and spent hours with them and finally got it to work. Since then, there was one time that the wireless connection was dropped for a short time and came back. Other than that, it has been good for the last 7 days.
These two Mac Pro machines are the base model, quad-core and 12GB of RAM.
My experience with Apple products is that they usually have problems when I first get them. Then it takes some work to make them reliable. In addition to these two Mac Pros, I had 4 new Mac laptops in the last 12 months (1 MBP and 3 MBAs). They all had problems when I got them. I had to return 2 of these laptops as well.
I am sure that my experience is not the norm. Apple products are supposed to work and work reliably. But all the 6 Apple computers I got in the last 12 months had problems. I am a software engineer with 20 years of industry experience in networking/software areas. I cannot explain my experience at all.

  • Can an entry level MacBook Air run Mainstage 3?

I'm looking to get an 11 inch MacBook Air (i5, 4gb ram, 128gb ssd). My budget is less than $1,000. The less the better. I don't run any fancy plugins...I just use the patches that come with MainStage.
Does anyone else use an entry level MacBook Air to run Mainstage 3? How are your results? I know in theory I should get 8gb ram and i7, but I'm more interested in someone who has actually tried it. Thank you!

i've been running MainStage 3.0.4 on a late 2010 macbook air 13" core2 duo with 2GB ram with no problem UNTIL i made the poor decision to "upgrade" from mavericks to yosemite.  now it is a train wreck.
i use(d) it only for processing guitar.  typically i would use a stereo reverb, a stereo delay, an amp model, an output level boost, and a gain boost for a typical patch.  my macbook air always handled this easily.  with an I5 and 4GB you should be in good shape.
i shouldn't complain.  nobody ever said MainStage was compatible with yosemite.  after the fact i saw on roaringapps.com that they are not listed as compatible.

  • Macbook pro 15-inch 2011 vs. MacBook Air 13-inch 2013

Hello. I currently own a MacBook Pro 15-inch, early 2011 model. It has 8 GB of RAM, a quad-core, 2.3 GHz i7 processor, hi-res, anti-glare display, an AMD 6750m and Intel HD 3000. I bought it off of an Apple product store on Ebay about 3 and a half months ago. It was 1,350$. It was in perfect condition when I bought it, and it still is. I'm really into producing music, and I use Reason 6.5. I also do some other small things on my laptop, like word-processing, web-browsing and I bring it to school everyday. I was wandering if I should sell this laptop on Ebay, and buy a brand-new Macbook Air, 13-inch, 2013 model. The laptop is a little thick and heavy, and its battery-life is nothing compared to the MacBook Air. I really value battery-life I would probably upgrade the RAM to 8 gigs, and maybe upgrade the processor to 1.7 GHz, maybe upgrade the SSD to 256, but I might not. I was wandering if this would be a good idea. How much would I be able to sell this laptop for on Ebay? Is the MacBook Air weaker or stronger than the laptop I am using now? Screen real estate is something that matters a lot when using a music program, which is why I initially went for this laptop. Now, since the MacBook Air is smaller, I know that it displays just as much as this laptop does, so I don't think that the screen size would be that big of a problem. I am thinking about saving up for a 27-inch iMac, which would then be my primary machine, but if I were able to buy one, it wouldn't be for awhile. Anyways, Thanks to anybody who can help me!

    Nice to see you again.
The macbook Air is 'stronger' than the Pro only in terms of containing MUCH fewer parts, far less to fault, easier to repair
both have unibody aluminum alloy frames.

Its stronger in alloy form factor, slim design with only ONE moving part, no HD to crash from mechanical failure of impact etc.
Ive got an Imac and current Air, and owned several Air, the air is the hands down choice for myself and I wouldnt part with it for any amount of money.  Also own a couple macbook Pro, new and older one i rebuilt.
Here is an excellent video comparison between the 11” I5 vs. I7 2013 Macbook Air.

    Macbook Air:
Only one moving part, ultrafast boot time SSD, the full power of laptop with the weight of an Ipad (close).
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5. HOWEVER NOW the new Pro have 802ac wifi
Recommend buying the Air with 8gig Ram.
Pack around a regular laptop around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Only one moving part, the fan. No moving HD heads to crash or moving platters.  Runs a LOT cooler than anything else out there (which = durability).  Heater is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Also the AIR has far fewer parts to fail inside than a standard laptop.  Really only a few replacement parts
The speakers on the Air, contrary to what most people would assume, are much louder than on the macbook Pro.
The Air in general is faster due to the SSD, also if you have a 802ac Router (i.e. Airport Extreme) then the Air over wifi is a LOT faster.
If youre going to be dragging a notebook around campus all the time, the Air makes things a lot more lovely.
The FINAL consideration of course is your application USE, and needs regarding same (see specs and video above)
The new Air, NOW with Mavericks is just 'king of the hill'. Nothing touches it

  • Where to find entry level sap jobs with a Terp10 Certification

Hello I am a soon to be college graduate graduating this December.
My question is with a Terp10 certification and no work experience what can I expect from the job market. Are there companies that hire college graduates with no SAP work experience? Are there any resources that help graduates find entry level SAP jobs.

    Hi ,
Welcome to the World of SAP !
As a fresher there are lot of options to start the career in SAP domain . As a fresher doing a certification *** training with out any prior experience , the opportunities for getting a job will be very less. SAP is a Enterprise business software which has the Technical ( ABAP,BASIS .......) Functional (SD,PP,MM,FI,...) Techno Functional modules . Choose a very option to get started . Getting a right career is not a tough job for you , search in web , read about sap , lot of online information ,forums available . choosing a career is a brainstorming work , my suggestion drop the idea of doing certification , as you are a fresher and very difficult to get a job without any experience . Please check the links to get start . good luck

If you are going to use Mac OS X and its associated applications, and a BootCamp partition with Windows 8, and MS Office and all of the work created there, you will more than likely run out of space on a 128 GB SSD pretty quickly...especially if you put any music, photos or videos on it.  Those things take a lot of space so you will have to be very, very careful about what you want to put on a 128 GB storage space.  You would be better off going for 512 GB with what you plan on doing with it.
