Is 15 hours + (still counting) normal for initial setup?

After setting up itunes and connecting ipod. The itunes updated the ipod then a do not disconnect message on the ipod screen popped up with a circle with an slash through it. This message has been flashing on the ipod for the past 15 hours. Is this normal? Should I disconnect and start again? What do I need to do to finish setup?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the process of installing, registering the iPod, and letting iTuens load up is complete, then see the following.
When connect your iPod to your computer, it is normal for it to say "Do Not Disconnect" (if “enable disk use” is check marked in iTunes, or if you are on “manual” in iTunes). To safely disconnect your iPod, you'll need to first eject your iPod from your computer (just pulling out the cord may clear all the music from your iPod).
There are a few methods.
Ejecting your iPod through iTunes
Ejecting your iPod via iTunes depends on what setting your iPod is on for.
Connect your iPod. Go into Edit> preferences> iPod. See what setting your iPod is on; "automatic" or "manual".
Automatic
If you aren't restoring, or updating your iPod, iTunes should automatically eject your iPod from iTunes. If it doesn't, then right-click the name of your iPod in iTunes, and make sure that the "enable for disk use" is un-checked.
Manual
If you need to eject your iPod from iTunes if the setting is "manual", click the little arrow that's next to the name of your iPod in the left source list in iTunes.
Ejecting your iPod through the "Safely Remove Hardware" program
Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen, and there's the system tray icons there. If the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is there, click on it, select your iPod, and click "stop".
Ejecting your iPod through "My Computer"
Go to "My Computer".
Find your iPod's listing there (it's typically "E:" or "F:").
Right-click it, click on "eject".
Ejecting your iPod if it isn’t being recognized anywhere
If your iPod isn’t appearing or being recognized by either of these programs on Windows, then do the following to safely disconnect your iPod:
Close iPod Updater/iTunes programs.
Shut down your computer.
Unplug your iPod.

Is over 400 hours (and counting) normal for iTunes to authenticate an iBook before uploading to iBooks store? Does the size of the document make a difference?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

OK, by coincidence this  happened to me just  yesterday as I was updating  a book, I   was doing other things and  noticed after about an  hour  it was still  showing loading lines.
Its locked up somewhwere and  I just closed/ force close if needed.. and started the delivery process again.
This time it  took 20 minutes or so which was what I expected.
If it  happens a second time, try starting the  Publish from within iBA, but  first  check the  xxxxxxx.itmsp number and  check if it issues a new xxxxx.itmsp, if it does.. delete the old one to avoid confusion.

  • Erased iphone need static ip for initial setup

i was having problems with my 4S so I erased it. During the initial setup I attempted to connect to wifi at my work but it wont connect.  I need the wifi so I can restore from the icloud.  We have static ips here and I dont have an option to set it.
    Any thoughts?

    At last:
Connect your NB to the network by wire (ethernet), share the internet connection on wifi adaptor and set a own wifi. You will get a DHCP IP from your notebook then.

  • Best option for initial setup of HD's on Xserve (possible RAID)

I'm just about to set up a new network in a new office and have an Xserve with 3 HD's 2x700GB and 1x500GB drive.
Now i have a fair bit of experience with the server itself, however i have zero experience with RAID.
I would like to start automatic backups of the OS (which i do already in a round about way). And have several share points for users network homes and data.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to setup the HD's themselves, should i RAID? what would be the best option? etc etc etc.
All suggestions are very welcome and appreciated.
    Thanks

No one can answer your question - at least not without more information.
When deciding disk layout you need to factor things like how much usable disk space you need - in this case for users' data. Are the users home directories on the server, or do they just upload files to the server for storage/backup?
What's the intensity of the data? Is reliability or performance more important? Would you pull your hair out if you lost a single file? a day's work? a week's work?
How much downtime could you tolerate if the server crashed?
These questions (and probably more) are important because it helps focus on the needs. For example, if the integrity of the data is more important than uptime you could mirror the two 700 GB drives for the user data and install the OS on the single 1TB drive. Of course this leaves you (slightly) vulnerable to a problem on the OS disk and you could be offline for hours if that disk failed. However, your user data would be mirrored and likely protected from disk failure.
On the other hand, if the uptime of the server is more important, you might opt to install the OS on the 700GB mirror, using the 1TB for user data, relying on backups to restore this disk if it fails.
Or, you might decide to put everything (OS and data) on the 700GB mirror, using the 1TB as the backup destination.
On the other hand you might determine that you need 1TB of user storage space, in which case you either need to use the 1TB for user data, or you need to stripe the two 700GB drives into a 1.4TB array, but then that array has no redundancy and the loss of a single disk will result in the loss of all data.
So, as I said, there is no one single answer to your question. You'll need to balance storage capacity and redundancy to find the best match for you.

  • Best Practices for Initial Setup

Hi, I'm going to be helping a friend setup his new Time Capsule and Airport Express for his home network. I've been following some of the threads here about the nightmare problems some people are having with speed, connectivity, reliability, etc.
So I was thinking it might be helpful to have a list of steps to take among setting up that might avoid some pitfalls. Feel free to add stuff not mentioned.
    1) Should firmware be updated first? What is current version?
    2) Would doing a '7-Pass Erase' on the TC first potentially avoid some issues (seems like this has helped some folks)?
    3) If you plan on storing other data on the TC yourself (not a TM backup), do you need to partition the drive first? What is the best method for this? Would this have any potential on slowing TM backups?
    4) What is best method for determining best channel to set TC to? (ie, are there ways to test?)
    5) Should you perform initial TM backups from each computer over ethernet before attempting wireless?
    6) What tools are there to accurately check your wifi and/or file transfer performance? Are there listed standards that a good working TC 'should' be to compare against.
THANKS in advance. I'm trying to help them avoid some of the pitfalls people have encountered. Hopefully this can help others as well.

    1) I would update first Airport Utility is 5.3.2 and firmware 7.3.2
    2) not needed is over kill
    3) partition is a waste of valuable space, Airport Utility is not going to do that; you'll need to pull the drive and do it then you'll run into unusual problem over the long term.
    4) jump by at least 6

  • 58L9300U Initial Setup Failure

    Hello,
I recently purchased a 58L9300 series TV and from the first installation of the quick setup screen I began to experience freeze issues with the TV.  I was able to make it to the network tab on Quick Setup but after that point the TV became unresponsive.  Howver after repeated attemts to power on and off the TV it still reverts back to that frozen frame in the network tab.
Initial observations include before the system tries to perform the steup percentage screen I can use the remote to change inputs, turn the TV on off etc.  So it seems this may be caused by a firmware of software issue residing in the TV.  Right now I cannot use my new TV because of this issue and would appreciate feedback on correcting the issue.
    Jason

I foudn that if I unplugged the TV from the power strip, then waited like 2 min (for TV to lose power completely) at least, then plugged it back in and powered it on.  It at least has a chance to boot all the way each time (for me at least). When I unplug my TV I have noticed that there are 8 'clicks' that sound kinda like a windshield wiper.
If you can get it to boot and load the OS, then you should be able to run the reset command (in options).  This should re-run the setup wizard.
BTW I did find that it is normal for the setup wizard to run until it completes at least once.  If you are stuck in the network settings, you may have to enter settings to get past that.. (or try skipping maybe).  I did skip the IR blaster setup at the end of setup with no issues.

  • Mac Mini + Bluetooth Keyboard initial setup

    On this page :-
    http://www.apple.com/uk/keyboard/
It states that an "Existing keyboard and mouse for initial setup" are required.
If I buy a new Mac Mini with apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse, will it all just work or do I need usb devices to set things up?

You just need a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. First it will ask you to pair the mouse with the mac mini if it doesn't automatically pair it. Just turn off the mouse by sliding the cover down and back up...then you'll finish the install of OS X, and then it will ask you to turn on your BT keyboard, and you'll just need to press the power button on the right hand side and push until it blinks and then type in a code that will appear on the screen. It's all quite simple as soon as you try to do it. The directions on-screen are quite self-explanatory.

  • I made a reset on mu iphone 3g and its been three hours, still it isnt finished. is this normal?

is my phone still ok? i thought that it only took one hour to do a reset, its already more than three hours and its still not done. is this fine?

Hi, it all depends on how much data you had stored in your iphone, however since its the 3G version this could be considered normal for this type of device as it deletes every single bit of data as it doesn't use an encrpytion chip. If the phone takes more than five hours then I would start to worry and ask apple technical support.

My 2 hour battery is starting to only charge to 1 hr 45 and sometimes less. It's like I have to keep it constantly hooked to the power chord. Are 4 hour batteries still in production?

Apple is still producing batteries for your MBP, yes. The "higher capacity" (though certainly not double!) batteries from FastMac are also still available.
