Is 17" PPC LCD display a compatible replacement for 17" Intel?

iMac G5 17" 1.83GHz Intel Core2Duo has broken LCD screen.
I wish to replace using screen from iMac G5 17" 1.8GHz PPC.
Will it work?

This much I do know, the G5 was much easier to take apart than the Intel.  Even if the screens are compatible, you'll have to be very exact how you place it.   http://www.ifixit.com/ and http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ are some of the best take apart websites I've seen.  They might have the answer you are looking for.

Canoscan toolbox 5.0.1.0 is a power pc app that will not run under lion.  i cannot locate an upgrade that will run under lion.
i primarily use the app to create multi page pdf files (b/w and rarely color).  this app runs flawlessly now under 10.6.7
    upgrades available?  better alternative app?
my scanner is a canon canoscan 4400F purchased in 1998.
i also use arc soft photo studio 4 for scanning slides and some color source material, also a power pc app.

  • R400: Which LCDs/displays are compatible?

After years of good service, my think pad has a cracked LCD panel. Since the laptop is fine otherwise and I am quite content with it, I would like to replace the panel.
    The computer is a R400 7439 CT0, the display in question is a  14.1'' WXGA+ LED backlight, model LG LP141WP2 (TL)(B1), lenovo FRU 42T0498.
The problem is that this particular model seems to be hard to come by: I only found fantasy prices on ebay etc (800€!) that would be more expansive than a whole new computer, and most stores do not even offer this one.
What other options do i have? Are there compatible panels, and if so, which? I did do some research on the forums but I am still a bit befuddled about the technical details. More specifically:
    - CCFL backlight would be easy and cheap to get, but from what I read I probably need to stick with LED backlight, right?
    - Can I "downgrade" to WXGA without problems? Would that require any additional parts (cable, inverter etc)? I did find a FRU 27R2412 or FRU 42T0701 that seem to fit the (some?) 7439 CTOs..
    Thank you so much!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Just for the record:
The new panel works fine now, but I also needed a different LCD cable (93P4593) AND sub card (FRU 42W8231).
    Was still worth it though.

  • FULLY-compatible replacement for internal Sony DW-U10A?

The Superdrive in my single-processor 1.8 GHz PowerMac G5 has lost the ability to read DVDs. I've tried using different OS versions, etc. and it's clearly the drive, not the software.
I'm only interested in replacements that are fully compatible with Mac OS X and are capable of booting from a DVD (which is in fact my main motive for wanting to replace the drive). Ideally this would be another Sony DW-U10A, or a more recent Sony drive with the same form factor that Apple has also supported.
Has anyone personally replaced one of these drives, what did you get as a replacement and where did you get it, and was it a reasonably easy do-it-yourself task?
No theories, please. And no drives that are bundled with non-Apple software that will let you burn movies but won't boot from a DVD in the drive...

Sony drives are now sold under the Optiarc brand name ( co-brand with NEC ), Apple currently ships as an OEM drive the Optiarc 7170A.
Additionally Pioneer drives such as the DVR-111D ( retail box DVR-710 ), DVR-112D ( retail box DVR-1810 ) are fully supported.

  • Keyboard replacement for iMac Intel OS X 10.4.11 ? HELP!

My iMac4,1 Intel Core Duo running OS X 10.4.11.
Can't upgrade OS?, no new keyboard replacement will work...what do I do?, besides drop 3k on a new Mac. HELP ME PLEASE!

New iMac's are not $3K, they start at $1199. You have had 5+ years of use, perhaps it's time for an upgrade anyhow. BTW exactly what keyboards have you tried and have you done and SMC reset after installing the keyboard. If you don't know how please read:

  • Most compatible SSD for Macbook (intel? ocz?)

I've already tried a OCZ Agility an it didn't work.
I did a lot of googling and I still don't know which ssd is better for me.
Any Samsung (apple, Corsair, OCZ Summit) has a very grave problem of degradation over time. Besides Samsung don't release firmware updates to fix this, so those ssd are out of the question I think.
The OCZ vertex has a regular firmware updates. The current one fix degradation, returning performance rates to their original values, like you had a fresh disk.
BUT there are also a lot of users having compatibility problems on mac.
I've red about Intel x-25 160gb. It looks like could work, but I don't know for sure. Plus it's very expensive, so it's a risk. Although if it's compatible I would be ready to buy it without hessitation.
The only thing I want is a compatible ssd that doesn't lose perfeormance over time.
    Thanks!

You won't get an SSD currently that doesn't lose performance over time when ran on OSX to my knowledge. Currently OSX doesn't support TRIM.
There are however SSDs that seem to suffer from less write fatigue than others. You can read about my experiences here:
    http://www.markc.me.uk/MarkC/Blog/Entries/2009/9/2Crucial_M225_128GbSSD.html
I've stuck with the Crucial M225 and it's still showing excellent performance very comparable to a fresh disk.
You can return an SSD to 'fresh' performance by using the on-board write erase but you'll need to run that on a PC as it's not possible, as far as I know, to do it on a Mac. Other bits you may find useful:
My original article on using a Corsair unit: http://www.markc.me.uk/MarkC/Blog/Entries/2009/8/4SSD_in_a_MacbookPro.html

    Erasing an SSD
    http://www.markc.me.uk/MarkC/Blog/Entries/2009/8/13Erasing_anSSD.html
For what it's worth so far I've had the Crucial listed, a Corsair, Intel and an OCZ something or other all working in my MBP.
When you say they don't work what do you mean? You can't actually use the drives or other issues?

  • White screen after replacing LCD display myself. Help needed!

I tried replacing the cracked LCD display, the fuctions on the iPod is still working but after replacing the LCD display it turns out to be white. I search the internet for solution but can't find any instead the possible problem. I found forums stating it could be the 'GPU chip' is fried on the logic board. I tried the cracked LCD on another iPod Touch 2nd Gen and found out that you could still see the outline of the lockscreen and time but when I tried on the original iPod Touch 2nd Gen it's just white, the same goes for the new LCD display. It's there any possible way to replace just that part without resetting the iPod Touch to its factory settings and how much would it cost?

  • Replacement LCD Displays

Hi, Folks--I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I'm asking something that has been asked recently.
I have a 23" Cinema Display (the older one, model # M8536) that needs a new LCD display unit (the old screen is cracked). Is there any place where an end user can purchase these replacement screens for self-installation? I have Googled this topic everyway I can think of and can only find big LCD manufacturers that sell to the corporate world. One exception was applepalace.com which had the units available for about $1,800--a ridiculous price for a display that has not even been sold by Apple for a couple of years now.
I've also scoured ebay, but the integrity of these used displays is always suspect.
Any help for this do-it-yourselfer would be appreciated. Thanks!!

The reason why yyou can use your MacBook on tv is that your hardware is totally fine. But your MacBook display isnt. i dont think you can solve this problem. This macbook needs an operation of an expert. He is going to replace the old display with newer. This accident can cost a lot of dollars so next time be careful with your MacBook! Best of luck to you!

  • Can anyone tell what is the number to replace a damage LCD display in my iPad 2?

In a recent incident the lcd display in my iPad 2 became damage, I would like to replace it. Can anyone tell me the replacement number for this part? so I can order it in the internet

Apple does not sell parts to the public and does not provider parts numbers. You will have to use the internet to find either a used or OEM replacement. Start with http://www.ifixit.com.

Lcd Needs to Be replaced on macbook air 13 mid 2012 model a1466. Is an screen from MBA 13 mid 2011 model a1369 also compatible?

Well that's only a possibility, not likely. I'll stick with Mac as much as I can, which I imagine will mostly be ok. If I have to, I'll use their computers in class and do PC homework assignments from home on my more powerful iMac. The only thing I really thought about before buying it was its portability and the fact that I won't be using it for actual programming jobs after school. This is merely to get me through school.

  • Restart screen and no volume after LCD display replacement

    Hello All,
I recently replaced a broken LCD display on my Powerbook G4. It starts up fine and I can even use my laptop for certain things. However, I get no sound and when I try and play songs off of itunes, quicktime files or any program that requires video or sound I get the "you need to restart your computer" screen. Any help or advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    Jay

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you replace the screen yourself, you may have missed some cable connections.
If the clock battery is over 4 years old, I'd get it replaced.
If the clock battery is under 4 years old, check these articles:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832

If you had someone else replace the screen, ask them to fix the damage they did which left you without audio and is causing kernel panics.
My FAQ* here explains what can cause kernel panics:

Which is your "You need to restart your computer" screen.

  • Replacement LCD display for AIO

HP Omni 120-1034 fell forward on the desk, and the LCD display is cracked. The pc is out of warranty so I want to replace the screen but need to find the part number  and a source for the part itself. Any suggestions welcome, I'm findin the HP support site less than helpful so am turning to the forum. Thanks so much.

Maybe have your screen replaced by Lenovo Support. Replacing a tablet LCD can be tricky maybe.

  • Replacement of powerbook LCD display

I am using an "old" powerbook G4 which has completely satisfy me until it unfortunately fell from my desk. Now my LCD display seems to be dying slowly, with a lot of mutlicolor lines on almost a third of the screen and an entire dead pixel's zone at the bottom right corner of my display. Plus a black spot, pretty like a solar eruption.. It could be artistic if it was not ruining my display. So I have got simply 3 basic questions:
    - Can I fix these damages?
    - If not, where can I get a new display (near Geneva, Switzerland) and is it worthwhile to pay for it replacement?
    - How much will it approximately cost me?
    Many thanks for your suggestions

Yeah, that sounds like the wires through your display hinge might be getting pinched. I'd take it to the Genius Bar.
