  • Question about Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I've read that:
    This course is a combination of Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals and Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units courses.
    In order to preparing for this exam, i should read the student guide, so there are 4 pdf files. One is Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals, and the other 3 are regarding to Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units (volume I, II and III). My question is, regarding to this last one (Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units), which volume should i read? I saw that volume I has 400+ pages, and the IIIrd ~80.
    Which document should i read? What's the difference between them?
    Thanks!

    Passing the exam and becoming certified are not a matter of simply reading a book or taking a training class. While books and classroom materials as well as in-class training are all important steps in preparing for an exam, experience and research are just as important. I cannot tell you that there are 53 questions on the exam and every single question maps directly back to page 13, paragraph 3 in XX book. However, If you have the classroom material, and you have the list of exam topics, you should be able to find most of the information you need. In some cases, if you are not completely familiar with a specific topic, or you don't feel like the information in the book gives you all the information you need, you may need to do a little additional research. This is all part of preparing for an exam. This process is what makes you successful as a certified professional.
    Your focus seems to be solely on the course materials that you have and what volumes and chapters you should read. I'm trying to give you a different perspective - preparing for an exam is not necessarily about taking one course or reading one book and being ready. You need to review the exam topics and be sure that you are familiar with each topic.

  • Setting v$session.program with javax.sql.DataSource unsing JNDI

    I am trying to set v$session's program column while connecting to database.
    It works like charm when i use :
    java.util.Properties params = new java.util.Properties();
    params.put("v$session.program", "MyApp");
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:user/[email protected]:1521:myDB",params);
    It just doesn't SET anything when i use, JNDI :
    java.util.Properties params = new java.util.Properties();
    params.put("v$session.program", "MyApp");
    Context ctx = new InitialContext(params);
    DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup(datasourceName);
    conn = ds.getConnection(userName,password);
    Just couldn't figure out why its not setting in the 2nd Case. Any ideas ??

  • How to cofigure Oracle Warehouse Builder with MS SQL Server to store metadata information?

    I am getting error stating that 'API5022: cannot connect to the specified account. Verify connection information.',  when i try to configure MS SQL Server to repository assistance.

    Juergen,
    The SQL Server stored procedure implementation is somewhat different from the Oracle one. As you might have noted in Oracle all results (including ResultSets) can only be returned as output parameters from the stored procedure. With SQL Server you can just do a SELECT inside the procedure and you will see a ResultSet in Java (somewhat of an asynchronous call). There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.
    One of the SQL Server "disadvantages" is the problem you are experiencing: error messages are also generated as they occur and sent to the client (JDBC driver), which transforms them into SQLExceptions. Another SQL Server disadvantage is the fact that output parameters are only available after the driver has parsed and cached or discarded all results.
    With Oracle, on the other hand, you can only obtain ResultSets from stored procedures through cursors. This has two disadvantages: first there's an overhead on the server side to maintain the cursor snd seconf you need non-standard JDBC code to obtain the ResultSet.
    So the short answer to your question would be that there isn't (as far as I know) any way to avoid the SQLException. However, you can skip it and either get the linked SQLExceptions or call getMoreResults() until you get your custom error message.

  • Simple way to connect Oracle 11g XE with MS SQL Server 2000

    Is there a simple way to access SQL server database/ Tables within from Oracle 11g XE (Windows-32bit) on same machine. I am a novice so kindly keep it simple. Thanks

    To connect to a SQL Server you need to use an Oracle product called Database gateway for ODBC which uses a 3rd party ODBC driver to connect to the SQL Server.
    The easiest set up is to install DG4ODBC release 11.2 on the SQL Server. How to configure the Database Gateway for ODBC is described in note:
    How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install          [Document 466225.1]
    when you install DG4ODBC on a 32bit Windows operating system and the instructions for a 64bit Widnows operating system can be found in this note:
    How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on 64bit Windows Operating Systems to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install          [Document 1266572.1]
    The database gateway for ODBC is available for free from here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
    Please make sure you select the 32bit or 64bit Windows operating system depending on the platform where you've installed the SQL Server and on which you now install the gateway and download the <win32/64>_11gR2_gateways.zip CD.
    Once downloaded, unzip it and install it using the Oracle Universal installer. Make sure you select the product Database Gateway for ODBC (there's also a dedicated SQL server gateway called Database Gateway for MS SQL Server - this gateway is NOT for free and it requires a separate license).

    i think based on your original posting what you need on your groupings are the columns MENU, PNL, ACCESS and exclude PLST.
      SELECT DISTINCT P.PLST, P.MENU, I.PNL, P.ACCESS
        FROM AUTHITEM P, I.MENUITEM
       WHERE P.MENU = I.MENU
         AND P.PNL  = I.PNL
         AND P.MENU IN ('MSN, CPP')
         AND P.ACESS >= 8
         AND EXISTS (SELECT 'x'
                       FROM AUTHITEM K, J.MENUITEM
                      WHERE K.MENU = J.MENU
                        AND K.PNL  = J.PNL
                        AND P.MENU = K.MENU
                        AND I.PNL  = J.PNL
                        AND P.PLST !=K.PLST
                     HAVING COUNT(*) = 2
                     GROUP BY PMENU, I.PNL, P.ACCESS)note: untested

  • Stack Overflow Error for JNI program with Jdk1.3

    I wrote a JNI wrapper for a third party sofware (written in C) to use some exported functions provided. My program runs fine when using Sun JDK1.2.2, but I got the following error when using Jdk1.3 to run the program (It's a runtime error, only the version of runtime virtual machine matters.)
    # An EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW exception has been detected in native code outside
    the VM.
    # Program counter=0x9073337
    A stack overflow was encountered at address 0x09073337.
    I tried IBM jdk 1.2.2, it gave me a similar error complaining about the stack overflow error.
    The vendor of the third party software denies any wrong doing in their code and I don't have their source code. A test client (simulate the Java client) I wrote in C works perfectly fine and as I mentioned earlier the same java progarm runs OK with jdk 1.2.2, without any change to my system stack size. Does any body know what this is about and the solution for this?
    Thanks!
    My email: [email protected]

    I had the same exception occur in my JNI code and I have some advice on things to look for.
    Symptoms: The C++ code runs fine when called in an native executable but when it is wrapped by a JNI call inside a DLL you get the following exception:
    An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
    Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW occurred at PC=0x100d72e5
    Function name=_chkstk
    The address will be different of course.
    In my tests I isolated the problem to an allocation of a char array like so at the top of one of my wrapped C++ methods:
    char buf[650000];
    As you see this code is requesting 650000 bytes of stack memory. When run in a native executable there was no problem but when I ran it wrapped in the JNI call it blew up.
    Conclusion: There is a much smaller stack space when using JNI OR the added overhead of my JNI wrapper exhausted the available stack space OR this is a stack space issue related to DLLs.
    Hope this helps. Anyone with insight on this please put in your 2 cents.

    thanksOracle Forms is best used against an Oracle database... so why on Earth would you want to use it against SQL Server?
    Aside from that, Oracle Forms is old technology... you'd be better using Oracle Application Express (Apex) for producing web based apps.
    If you must do things against an SQL Server database, you would need to set up heterogenous services connectivity (HS) and treat the SQL Server database as an external database.

  • Why do I get a class conflict between the Prepare SQL.vi and the Get Column Name.vi with the SQL Toolkit compatibility vis from the Database Connectivity Toolkit?

    I have done extensive programming with the SQL Toolkit with LabVIEW versions through 6.1. My customer now wants to upgrade to Windows 7, so I am trying to upgrade to LabVIEW 2009 (my latest purchased version) using the Database Connectivity Toolkit, and the SQL Toolkit Compatibility vis. Everything seemed to be going okay with the higher level SQL operations, but I ran into trouble with the Get Column Name.vi.
    The pictures below show the problem. The original SQL Toolkit connected the Prepare SQL.vi with the Get Column Name.vi with a cluster of two references, one for connection, and one for sql. The new compatibility vis have a class conflict in the wire because the Prepare SQL.vi contains a cluster with connection, and command references, but the Get Column Name.vi expects a cluster with connection and recordset references.
    How do I resolve this conflict?
    Thank You.
    Dan

    I've never worked with the old version of the toolkit, so I don't know how it did things, but looking inside the SQL prep VI, it only generates a command, and the the column name VI wants a recordset. I'm not super familiar with all the internals of ADO, but my understanding is that is standard - you only have the columns after you execute the command and get the recordset back. What you can apparently do here is insert the Execute Prepared SQL VI in the middle and that will return what you need.
    I'm not sure why it worked before. Maybe the execute was hidden inside the prep VI or maybe you can get the column names out of the command object before execution. In general, I would recommend considering switching to the newer VIs.
