Is 2.1 still dropping calls for you?

It is for me. No improvement at all. Steve Jobs says this is a small issue and only a few people are experiencing it. Are you one of the few?
I have four phone and all of them drop calls. This is not some remote area, this is in flat land around southern California (Newport Beach).
I also know 10+ other people I work with that have the same problem.

I am also experiencing dropped calls but mostly when using 3G. If I am using EDGE the problem is not as severe. I live in Baltimore MD. I had posted a question here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8093328 but will repost in this thread.
If you are on a call and moving and you move from a 3G into a non-3G area will the call always drop or will the phone attempt to pick it up on edge before losing it all together? Also, can the phone maintain a connection if you switch 3G cells? I suspect that one of the reasons we are having so many dropped call problems is that the AT&T 3G service is so spotty. If iPhone could somehow switch to edge as a last resort before dropping the call we might not loose as many calls.
Is the dropped call problem an issue that requires replacement of the phone? (i.e. have people replaced their phones and found it fixed the issue?)

  • 2.1 update and still dropping calls

Just loaded the 2.1 again. Had a full signal for about 3 minutes and then went back to no signal and dropped call. As soon as i finished the call the phone flutated back to full signal. I can leave the phone in the same place and watch the signal bar go up and down like a yo yo.
Back to the drawing board for Apple i feel. Think its time to return the phone not fit for purpose and get the nokia back out of the cupboard.

The first thing I would suggest trying is to delete and re-pair the iPhone with your CRV system. (Unless of course, "...restored the system..." means you already did this?) After that, assuming the problem is not cleared, I would perform a test and take a look at the iPhone screen during an incoming call. I'm curious if the display has the CRV selected as source audio.

  • Dropping calls for the past 2 to 3 weeks

I don't know whats going on in our area, but both my wife's phone and my phone are dropping calls lately. We are using the phones in the house as we always have. We have never had these problems before.  I also have an air card with verizon that is 4G that has seen loss in bandwith.  That has an omniview antennae plugged into it which reaches the top of my house.  I have reset both phones, 1 Iphone5 and the other not a smartphone.  I refuse to purchase a network extender when the problem has just started recently. My buddy can bring his phone and aircard over my house and get full LTE!!!
We are looking at switching carriers if the service does not improve.  Our home phone even has a hum in it.  Replaced the phone and that wasn't the problem.  Also tried a different jack.
Everything use to work so nice, now it's just frustrating trying to even make a call. My cell doesn't lose service anywhere else but my house. I don't want to have to go outside and climb a tree to make a call.
    What has changed?

  • Why will Siri make phone calls for you even though your phone is locked?

I just discovered that, from my locked screen, Siri will gladly make phone calls for me...  How can I change this?

Disable Siri from the locked screen. You probably have a passcode set up. Under settings>general>passcode you should be able to turn siri off on the locked screen

  • Is finder in Mavericks still operating slowly for you?

I have several Mac computers, one a macbook pro (mid-2010) and another a 2013 iMac 27". Finder takes forever to load my files for viewing. It's obviously faster with my iMac but it is still slow overall. I just want to know if this is a problem for others after the most recent update. I couldn't find mention of it after Novemeber 2013.

Here's a test to try: turn off all networking, including WiFi and unplugging any ethernet cords to your computer. Now see if Finder doesn't dramatically speed up. If this helps, than you can make the following configuration change so that you can turn networking back on and still keep the speed.
Note: This will involve editing a configuration file in the Terminal using VI editor (or other programming editor; DO NOT USE TextEdit). If you aren't comfortable doing this, try finding a computer programming buddy to help you out.
    1. Open a terminal window
    2. Run command: sudo vi /etc/auto_master
    3. Enter your password when prompted.
    4. Find the line in the file:
    /net                    -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    5. Insert a '#' character at the start of the line to "comment out" the line.
    6. Save the file and quit (e.g. 'ZZ').
Now, with networking turned back own on your computer, see if Finder does not respond quicker. If this has not effects, undo the edit and let me know. There are a few other things to try.
    Good luck

    Please help!

    3 things to try:
    1. Try switch Siri OFF then after a minute switch back on.
    2. Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    3. Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data

  • IPhone 3G Dropped Calls

What was once an annoyance is now intolerable. My iPhone is all but useless as a phone. I drop calls constantly even with 5 bars and sitting in place. I've updated software, rebooted phone etc. Any thing else I can try?

What part of Europe are you in? Is 3G coverage fairly comprehensive where you are?
Do you have the 2.1 update installed? If so, and you have adequate reception and are still dropping calls excessively, I would probably try swapping out for a new iPhone.
If you don't have adequate 3G reception while on the move (i.e., driving) throughout your city/region, I'd recommend turning off 3G. With the exception of Asia, clearly 3G is still a burgeoning technology in most parts of the world.
In the language of audiophiles, it's simply not "perfect sound forever." Yet.
When Apple gives the advice to "turn off 3G" I'm sure they do so with a great deal of regret and frustration. On one hand, they obviously failed to do their due diligence as to how millions of these devices would interact with at&t's towers, out in the actual world.
On the other hand, I do believe they've produced a great product. When I'm in a 3G saturated area, the phone does everything it's supposed to.
Finally, a personal anecdote. A buddy of mine is also on at&t Wireless, and while working on the east coast a month ago, bought an AT&T Tilt. As the negative press about the iPhone 3g was piling up, I was getting merciless teasing from him about how I should've gone with a "serious device," rather than a toy.
Long story short, when he got back in town a few weeks ago, we had drinks at a bar over in Culver City. When we compared reception, we both had three bars of 3G. Last weekend, post 2.1, we got together at the same place. Of course, he still had his three bars. I had five.

  • Iphone 4 constantly dropping calls or "call failed"

I've been having nothing but trouble the past couple weeks with dropping calls or getting the "failed call" showing up when trying to make a call. It happens more times than not and i spoke with Apple today and was told that after you try all the resets and restore options it should be fine. If that doesn't work, its more than likely a SIM card issue and needs to be cleaned or replaced. I did all the restore and backup and all the other garbage they advised me to do, and still did not work. Took the SIM card out and im not sure if its supposed to sparkle in the light, but its pretty **** clean. Re-inserted it, and still dropping calls or "call failed". Next option is getting a new SIM card tomorrow and i'll update what i find out.
Previously, in July, some moron from Canada was beaking how its a service issue and he's on Rogers network, blah blah blah and he's never dropped a call and its superior to AT-T and mentioned something about how all the ppl would have no trouble if they were on the Rogers network.
Well i'm from Canada and work with 2 other ppl, surprise, from Canada who are having the same problem with the iphone 4........its not a network thing whatsoever, because ppl on Telus and Rogers are having the same problem. Im assuming he was from Toronto where the center of the universe is and he was basically just being an idiot, so for that moron, i apologize to ALL who are having issues with the iphone 4 and hopefully Apple gets their act together and solves this issue!!

Hey everyone, I think I finally got the solution for this. It appears to be a NETWORK ISSUE with the phone provider. I am a Telus subscriber and after speaking to a cool tech guy from Calgary named "Corey", he performed the following task:
He told me he had to reset 4 settings on the network for my account. A few of which were under something called "STF viewer" "PLMN" and "PRL"...
Aftewards, I had to go to my iphone: General > Reset > Reset network settings
I am now able to complete phone calls (and apparently my reception sounds better to my call recipients/callers too). The problems is not related to a "faulty device" or "something" you did... If the problem happens again, I'll call my provider and have them investigate the ticket further as it could be a bigger network issue (with GSM) but chances are it just requires a simply settings reset on the backend of your provider's data support team.
After doing the reset, all I had to do was reconfigure my wifi password. No other settings were lost. (and more importantly, I didn't have to re-restore my iphone, didn't have to go to Apple and sound like one of those "iPhone 4 vs HTC cartoon characters" and didn't have to yell like a child to anyone. Just be cool when you call your provider's tech people, these guys are good hard working people and will help you and will have a better chance at success if they empathize with you and don't feel annoyed by you (I'm in IT, I know how it is).
I was also told that if I had to call back and if they had to reinvestigate, the next steps would probably involve having my SIM card changed but based on the previous tech's experience, it would be highly unlikely. I will update you further should I encounter any further issues. Just don't be hating on the iPhone 4 as most people do coz it is a sweet device if you can understand the tech specs behind the underlying issues.
Hope this helps you guys and anyone else who got frustrated by this problem!

  • Immediately dropped calls

Yesterday, whenever I made a call, the call would be dropped (with "call failed" on the screen) within 3 seconds. Very irritating.
I found that if I turned the phone off, then back on again the problem went away.
Do the Apple folks trawl this forum looking for ways to improve the iPhone?

I've had this same problem with dropped calls. I live in the Seattle area however. It really got much worse after the 2.1 update. I would get at least 4-5 dropped calls a day.
While it is true that that turning off 3G and switching over to EDGE will get rid of the dropped calls, this is really a temporary solution. I mean, it is the 3G iPhone after all so no sense in using it on "crippled" settings.
Here is the chronology of what I did and the solution I've come to. I think I have found something that works but it is a little early still (so far NO dropped calls and no calls going straight to VM for 3-4 days)
I first rebooted my iPhone...still dropped calls.
I then reset my network settings....still dropped calls.
Then I switched out SIM cards....still dropped calls.
Then I did a RESTORE but NOT from backup. I knew this would be a little painful but I was willing to try anything. Now just know, if you don't sync your iPhone with Outlook or MobileMe or something, you will lose all your contacts and appointments. I would recommend actually doing a quick sync before you do a full restore in case you wanna transfer any new info from the iPhone back to your computer including Apps and iTunes purchases. Just know that regardless, you apps will all reset to there initial settings. This is kinda a pain (you'll lose game saves, apps preferences, etc...)
The restore process will take me about 20-30 minutes to reinstall the software and everything (not sure but I've been told could take up to 45 minutes)...just be patient (do it before you go take a shower or times when you don't think you'll need your phone). Afterwards, you may notice your iTunes content by default does not transfer over but your apps should. You'll have to go into the iPhones settings on iTunes and check off what you want to sync over.
So far so good....No dropped calls. I suspect somewhere along the line...the firmware or OS became unstable or corrupted but doing a full restore fixed it. I am not sure a restore from backup works and you could certainly try that first but it sounds like it does not work.
    Good luck.

  • NUMEROUS DROPPED CALLS!!!!!!!!!!!

You will note my frustration in this email. I apologize in advance.
I have been experiencing NUMEROUS dropped calls per day, with the problem beginning a couple of months ago, and getting progressively worse. I'm in the metro Detroit area. Has ANYONE else been experiencing this, either in Detroit or nationwide?
Lately, I consider myself LUCKY if I experience a 10 minute phone call with no dropped calls. On some of my worse calls, the thing drops out 5-10 times and I need to keep calling the person back. Sometimes the call doesn't drop, but a situation occurs where I can't hear anything and the other side hears a garbled sound.
I have a STRONG 3G signal. It is NOT a signal strength issue. I have an iPhone 3GS. WHAT'S THE DEAL APPLE/AT&T???
Finally -- I notice that my phone gets bogged down with syslogd from time to time. Could this be a software issue where a runaway process takes the processing power away from the phone call process?
    - Eric

Same problem here, and on three brand new iPhone 3GS's.
One I travel with, dropped calls all over the country. One my daughter uses in a large city, all calls drop within 10 minutes, most usually much faster than that. One my other daughter uses in a smaller town, dropped calls also often there.
After much searching I come up with a number of 30 percent seems to be the official number that apple/att consider acceptable for a dropped call rate. Since dropped calls "never" seem to happen to the multi-thousand posts apple coolaid drinkers on this board, I imagine your and my dropped call rate is much higher than the 30 percent.
The only thing I have found that helps somewhat is turning off the 3G feature in settings. When you have a suitable 2G signal, the call is more stable. My one daughter cannot do this because her phone reception is full of static without 3G, so it's either static or dropped calls for her. One would think apple/att would have a solution after two years for this dropped calls problem. The other obvious solution is to return the phone and try another carrier/phone.
FYI - Expect this thread to be deleted after a few days. That seems to happen to dropped calls threads on here. I just commented on one last week, and it was deleted already. Perhaps before the apple coolaid drinkers start bashing me they can suggest a few solutions, if they have any, to the dropped call issue this time.

  • Dropped calls after call waiting tone

I have been getting intermittent dropped calls for the past month when receiving incoming call waiting tones. I reported it to comcast call center. They said they performed a remote test but I never saw any resetting of the modem take place. The agent said it must be the modem. I told her that the modem (DPC3141 - Triple Play) was 3 months old and the levels were almost perfect at the modem. The agent said she would send a tech to replace the modem. I felt that it was a canned response because she really didn't know what was wrong. I later cancelled the dispatch because I didn't feel it was a modem issue. Any one out there experience same symptoms? I live in Boynton Beach, Fl.

  • Nokia Lumia 710 Dropping Calls

My lumia 710 seems to randomly drop calls for no particular reason, even when I have full bars on my signal, I did read someware on the Internet that its happened to others with the Lumia 710 and there
is a fix being worked on for this problem.
Just wondering if any of you guys have any info on this problem being software related or could it
    be a hardware problem?

I've had the 710 for about 3 weeks now and found the signal to be poor compared to my N8 and the 5230.
I live in an area which isn' great for signal.
LG and HTC phones can't even pick up a 3G signal. The Blackberry I had about 2 years ago could get 3G intermittently.
This is why i returned to Nokia - purely for the signal. I first had the 5230 which had a full 3G and 2G signal, then the N8 which was almost as good, but the 710's signal is very poor by comparison - typically between 1 to 3 bars on 3G, sometimes switching to 2G giving about half to 3/4 signal. The problem this is causing is short drop-outs (can't hear the caller for about a second) about every 30 seconds so I'm constantly having to ask people to repeat themselves. I run my own business and this is what the phone is mostly used for - I feel it's very unprofessional to keep saying 'what' or 'could you repeat that' several times per call (it's also annoying).
Could anyone tell me if the 800 has a better signal because I don't mind buying one and selling the 710 if that's the case.
If that's not the case then I'll have to either go back to the N8 or get a SE (SE are the only phones I found that seem to get close to Nokia N8/5230 signal). I don't like Sony and I don't like android but I can'tput up with this poor signal on the 710.

I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service that didn't work. Verizon advised us that would upgrade both of our phones (to see if that solved the problem). Ok...this is where Verizon has forgotten customer service rules. He order 2 phone...one for himself, one for me. 1st the wrong address on the package..Fedex couldn't deliver...2nd...missing condo number Fedex couldn't deliver again...(2nd call to Verizon)...3rd package was finally deliver with 1 phone...missing my phone. Contacted verizon rep...reorder my phone again..but sorry we cannot give the same price as quoted on 21April...even though...its our mistake...Ok...Ok..what a surprise..but we can do this...after 65 minutes...found a price that was a little bit more...fine...just order the phone....I reordered phone on 28April...on the April 29...no email..so I can Verizon for the 4times in a few days..sorry your order was delay due to our Fraud dept. OK...talked to fraud dept...ok..account is good..will release phone and ship. OK...Next day, no email with deliver confimation. Contact Verizon 5 times now...sorry..your order was cancelled...YES...cancelled again...2nd time now...but we can reorder...OK...sorry but we cannot honor that price that was quoted..really...agent messed up...again...but we can do this for you....I don't understand...your mistake...ALL the times...
Strange ...how my order gets cancelled twice by Verizon's mistake....yet you cannot honor prices that your agents quoted!!!
I didn't reorder the phone....I cannot in good faith same with a company that does not stand behind their own mistakes...and worse...they make the poor customer pay for it...
I will not be renewing my contact...its time to Cricket Wirless...which my sister-in-law loves for half the cost....

I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
1.) Network Extender (may cause issues for others in a condo or apartment style setting)
2.) A Google Voice Number (Free with a Gmail email address), downloading Google Hangouts Dialer and forwarding your calls to the GVN so that you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.

In iOS 7 you can still make calls from the locked screen. Just swipe the missed call numbers to the right. Is this a bug?

How is it a security breach? You're free to turn off lock screen notifications for the phone app so that no one can do that.... even if they can, they can only call the number that called you... nothing else. (well, except for 900 or whatever the emergency services number is where you are, but that's required by law).
