thanks for the patient answers but, I didnt understand ur below statement(Bolded below) as Do you mean that I don't need DCOM permissions as I have SQL Server 2005 as DBengine for my Essbase 11.1.1.2 installation??(To remind you, (I'm not going for FDM/HFM products)

3)I already installed Essbase, HFR, Workspace, Smartview, Esbase Studio, Provider Services in the Win2003 server box.
If I want to access the workspace(& HFR, if possible), from another machine with URL, how do I access it?

Hi,
You could look at using LCM, you will need to export supporting details to understand the format of the XML.
You can also use ODI with LCM, I wrote a blog about using LCM with ODI which should give you some ideas, have a read here

Forcing use of Supporting Detail in Hyperion Planning data form

Hi everyone.
We're using Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.2 and for one particular data form, I'd like force users to HAVE TO use Supporting Detail on specific cells. I think there might be a way to do this using custom JavaScript functions and modifying the form code but I am wondering if there is a way to do this without code on the form. Any suggestions?

You should be able to export a file from LCM in an automated fashion.
My theoretical process involves four XML files (you could name these anything - these are just my names):
1) Export_Migration_Definition.xml (This XML file tells the Utility.bat what to export into files 3 & 4 below - Comments and Supporting Detail.)
2) Import_Migration_Definition.xml (This XML file tells the Utility.bat what to import into your Planning app - again Comments and Supporting Detail.)
3) Cell Texts.xml (This is the file that LCM creates with cell text. We'll need to change the version name in this file.)
4) Supporting Detail.xml (This is the file that LCM creates with supporting detail. We'll need to change the version name in this file.)
So where did I get files 1 & 2? If you go into LCM, and setup a manual migration, at the end, you'll see a button to "Save Migration Definition". Planning will create these two files for you. You'll need to go through the motions as if you were going to execute an export, and an import. Except you won't go all the way. At the end of the process, instead of pressing "Execute Migration", you'll press "Save Migration Definition" instead.
Once you've got the Export_Migration_Definition.xml and Import_Migration_Definition.xml, you can automate the export and import. At this point you'll be exporting and importing the same comments and supporting detail, just to make sure it works. Then you need to insert a step in your batch process that does a find/replace on the Version name. You'll be doing the find and replace on files 3 & 4 above. I used Google to find several examples of Find/Replace as part of a batch process.
Please let me know if you see any holes in this. I really don't think you need to interact directly with the repository for either the export or the import. In reality, you don't want to import directly into the SQL repository anyway, because you would typically need to recycle Planning for your changes to take effect.

Hyperion Planning migration from 32-bit to 64-bit windows OS

Hi All,
Planning is installed on 32-bit VM servers with windows 2003 Standard Edition in our environment and we are having memory issues when running in full load
Trying to understand whether we can move to move to 64-bit where it can help for increase in memory as required beyond 4 GB
Current version of Hyperion is 11.1.1.2 for some of the components(HFM,FDM,Planning,Essbase etc) and 11.1.1.3 for some components (HSS, workspace, FR,etc)
a) Do we need to re install the Hyperion software after the OS is upgraded with 64-bit?
b) Does the 32-bit applications created will support on 64-bit installations
c) Do we have separate softwares for all OEPM components when it comes to 32-bit or 64-bit and not sure whether that difference is present for all components
or only specific components
It would be of great help if anybody can post some ideas who have come across this situation

You are best having a look at the support matrix to see which products are 32/64bit and on which OS.
If you are looking to run 64bit planning on a windows OS then you are probably looking at 11.1.2
You need to install the software after the OS has been upgraded.
If you are talking about hyperion applications created on a 32bit platform then yes they will work on a 64bit platform.
Depends on the version to whether there are separate 32bit/64bit install files.
To be honest this is quite a detailed subject and I only give a quick overview on here, I recommend you getting in a consultant to discuss your options.

I think the installation of planning on Vista is difficult. As some of the files doesn't support even i am tired of doing that.
But tell me one thing have you installed all other products , I mean Essbase, (server, client) , AAS and Shared services.
Are they working good .
I have formatted my system to XP and installed everything , but the problem is when i install planning it prompts me that IIS 5 should be greater other wise EPM will not install...
there are lot of things with planning 1) i can't datasource as it is not highlighting when we configure with Shared services
2) It does not create product instance .
If any one can fix this thing by giving me a suggestions.

Hyperion Planning Classic vs. BPMA 9.3

Hi,
We are on Hyperion Planning 9.3 (including all latest patches). We are in the process of building a new Planning application. Currently we donot have an ETL tool and it doesnt seem we will get one for the next few months until our new Planning application is deployed into production. So in a nutshell we wont have an ETL to solve the below problem.
I have used Planning Classic along with an ETL tool to build my meta-data in past implementations, and havent had a chance to use BPMA. Lately I have started getting aquinted with BPMA and understand some of its advantages. However, I still have a few specific questions;
1. I know Planning Classic allows manual creation of members, does BPMA allow the same? Or does BPMA have to have flat file or interface table to create or add members? Our business users would be manually creating some members, or for instance change the start or end month of a 'Scenario'. So, does BPMA allow manual editing and pushing of meta-data?
2. If an application is created via BPMA, they would have to interface via BPMA and not Planning Classic anymore. Is that true?
3. I understand it is possible to convert a Planning Classic application into BPMA but "NOT" vice versa. Is this true?
4. Finally, a more difficult question, a more specific question which kinda of dictates the choice for us.
My client would like individual departments do their respective budgeting (noting unusual there). However, most of these departments budget per 'Project' and more specifically like to budget based on 'Project Name' (which are unique and not generic) as opposed to 'Project Numbers' (there isnt a Project number standardization as such yet). The challenge is getting the 'Project Names' into Hyperion Planning (sadly it doesnt exist in ERP/GL yet because these are new projects).
So, though the Finance Team ultimately approves each department's budget, they would like each department be able to create their respective 'Project Names' in Hyperion Planning. And Planning capabilities like supporting detail, etc wouldnt work as they would like variance based on 'Project Names' and be able to slice-n-dice based on 'Project Names'.
Now if we had an ETL tool the above would have been simple, I would have just created an automation to say pick-up a file with 'Project Names' from a pre-determined folder location. However, because we donot have an ETL, I was wondering if BPMA could do the same, i.e., automatically pick-up a file from a folder and create members and refresh Hyperion Planning? Could the 'Batch Processing' in BPMA handle this?

First of all I wouldn't recommend using EPMA until version 11, 9.3.1 was riddled with issues.
To try and answer some of your questions
1. You can manually maintain members in EPMA if you choose to do so, you need to push it down to planning/essbase if you do make changes.
2. If the planning app is in EPMA mode then you can't edit/add/delete member information through the classic route, you can view. You still can design forms, task lists etc through planning web.
3. It is possible but no you are not meant to.
Sounds like you could do with ODI it would make your life easier, are you sure you are not licensed to use it, you may be entitled to use it.

Edeliver is where you go to download any of Oracle products. They are not trial versions. They are full versions. The license that you must agree to inorder to download them are for development and self-educational purposes only.

From there you pick your language, identify yourself, and agree to the license agreement. Then, you select the product pack and OS of host system. Then, select the product you want to download. The products are splitup by component or modules. You must download everything you need. Foundation, Essbase, Planning, and Reporting and Analysis if you are going to do any reports.
Product pack - Choose Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System
OS - I use a 64bit OS, but choose the right one that you will be installing on.
Then choose,
Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (*11.1.2.0.0*) Media Pack for the OS you choose
Once you have downloaded the required packs, unzip them all into one folder. Merge the folders together and copy and replace all files. Put a check mark in the box that asks to perform this for other conflicts.
Once you have all packs unzipped, run InstallTool.cmd

Custom grid spread in Hyperion Planning v 11.1.2.3

In Hyperion Planning version 11.1.2.0 one could add custom grid spread methods to be used in planning forms.
To add methods one had to add entries to the HSP_SPREAD_PATTERN table
On migrating to version 11.1.2.3 the values still exist in the above table, but are not availabke in the front end planning form
We are running planning in the new ADF interface mode
Is there some trick to make custom grid spread work in ADF mode in version 11.1.2.3?

Bug 16851347 - LABEL FOR CUSTOM GRID SPREAD DOES NOT SHOW IN ADF INTERFACE, for this issue already and our development team is working on the same to fix it."

Data Integration from E-Biz Suite to Hyperion Planning

Hi Experts,
I am using EPM 11.1.1.1.0.
I have a requirement of integrating data from Oracle Gl to Hyperion.
I am going to use ODI for achieving the same but i observed a fact in GL around which i need some help.
Oracle GL maintains a relation between the entities and acconuts, (e.g a particular entity budgets against some specific accounts) ,however i do not see how in Hyperion I can replicate the same between the Entity and Accounts dimensions.
Can somebody please put some light on this...?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you're talking about cross-validation rules. There are two issues this lack of functionality presents in Hyperion Planning:
1) You want forms to be dynamic so that users only see the Entity/Account combinations that are relevant.
2) You want security to prevent users from sending data to invalid Entity/Account combinations.
Hyperion Planning doesn't support this requirement well, although there are some workarounds to "simulate" cross-dimensional security.

2)Existing DB is No archive mode,
3)OS windows server 2003 Enterprise sp 2(32 bit)

How big is the database ? How much downtime can you afford ? One option is to install 10.2.0.1 on the target, apply the 10.2.0.4 patch, create an empty instance on target, then export the database from the source and import into target.
Pl be aware that 10.2.0.1 thru 10.2.0.4 are on sustaining support and 10.2.0.5 is on extended support (if you have paid the extended support fees). Why not upgrade to 11gR2 ?
