Is 32gb ipad retina enough for me?

I have a 1st generation 16 gb ipad I'm trying to sell before I buy my new one. I'm constantly running out of space so I know I need more than 16gb on my new one but I don't want to over pay for extra space I don't need. I like to watch movies and tv shows on my ipad when I travel. I keep 0 music or photos on my ipad. I only have movies and games. Is 32gb enough or should I go for 64gb?

  • Is a MacBook Pro 15 retina enough for film music ?

    Hi everybody.
I'm a performer live musician and composer woking also with advertising music, film and TV music for the 60 percent of my business.
'Cause 6 months per year touring, i'm used to use portable Mac.
Until now i worked with my MBpro 2007 bumped with SSD raid configuration ( one ssd replaced the main 7200 rpm original drive, and a second SSD is installed in the optical DVD slot,  and 6 gig of RAM with the 10.6.8 OSX and Logic 9.1,8. When i'm at home, i use it plugged to an apple cinema display 30"-
I run super rock solid and flawlessy lot of VST and heavy orchestral libraries here, being a 15 years Mac and Logic user i know how to save resources and use things at the best with freeze, workarounds eccetera BUT now it's time to upgrade seriously to have less limit to my music ideas and speed up the work, especially with orchestral oriented stuff.
I'm open to every solution, also the nMac pro 'cause is very portable but i think the minimum configuration that have sense is at least 8 cores but at that price?!?
So that's why i'm oriented on a macbook pro retina 15" in super top configuration ( 16 gig RAM, 1 tb superfast SSD, 2.7 processor, double video with 2 gb RAM in europe kind of 3300 Euro) and maybe use as a slave the current mbook pro. I would be more ok if the mbpro could have more RAM, but is'nt more than 16.
The question is: have anyone experienced in film tv music tell me if the mbook pro 15 retina is enough to do tv music? I know is a generic question but to have an idea, i don't do VERY HEAVY orchestral stuff but i'd like to run flawlessy in a template like, per example: 3 multis of simphobya, 5 albion instruments, 2 LASS instances, 6 audio tracks and a bunch of audio/outboard plug ins to mix everything?
OR must i to take a 8 or 12 core nMac Pro and maybe take a mbpro 13 retina to work at the fly when i'm on tour for example?
i don't consider the old 12 cores Mac Pro, and i really would,  'cause i don't want to upgrade in something not having a thunderbolt, assuming i'll use tha new machine for about 6 years.
Thanks a lot, hope someone can help to make my decision.

    Go to Geekbench
    http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
and check out the relative values for the system you're currently using versus the one you're going to buy. My guess is a fullly spec'd MBP Retina will do the job, but you're undoubtedly better qualified than anyone on here to tell what kind of a machine you need.

  • Is a 16gb ipad large enough for general use

I am buying the new ipad and wondering if there is a substantial advantage to the 32gb over the 16gb

I would actually buy as much storage space as you can afford. I started with 16gb and ended up with 64gb. While I'm not presently using it all. It is nice to know it's there and I don't have to worry about deleting things to make space. Keep in mind video and magazines take a great deal of space so if you plan on downloading and storing movies or magazines, I have Vanity Fair, that gobbles up storage. If you have a large music library on iTunes, it is nice to have it resident on the device as you may want to access it when you don't have wifi or cellular connection rendering the cloud inaccessible. The same is true with photos and depending on the size of the photos themselves and how many you have, they can add up. Apps, books and documents don't really take that much space.
I have found that this has worked well for me and I've used about half my storage on the pad. My iPhone is 32gb and I store much less on it, no movies or magazines and that works fine.
    Hope this helps!

You could reboot your device by pressing the home button + power button at the same time for about 10 sec. until it shuts down and restarts again.

Will I need to purchase iWork for my iPad if I purchase an iPhone 5s? Everybody knows the iPhone 5s with IOS7 gives iWork for free. I assume that if I buy an iPhone 5s (or 5c) then iWork would be listed as a "purchased" app in my itunes store under my account. My iPad retina is in the same account... or are keynote, pages, and numbers completely seperate between ipad and iphone? I know they would be a seperate purchase for my Powerbook. Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi,
I was able to load the Productivity Suite / Free !!  on both my iPad mini and my iPhone 5s with no problems and at no cost.

    --break--
So we are entirely new to Apple products. I'm an IT guy, but have always been a windows user.
So the Ipad with Retina Display is to be mine (and will use it at work for notes, organization, etc)
The MINI is for the wife.
But, are we allowed and can we.. buy an app and share that app between both devices? IE. Can I buy a copy of Angry Birds for the House and both Ipad's use that single purchase? and if so, can we still run the Ipads seperate other than to share the apps purchased. IE my facebook and email set up on mine and hers on her ipad mini?
When I finally find a note taking app I like, can I share it on her ipad, without her having all my work files, etc?
Thanks for helping out the apple noob. Hoping for a great experience, and anticipate droping $100 in apps the first day.. just don't want to do that twice. If this is against the usage policy, thats unfortunate but good to know. (I mean we can share stuff on PC as long as its in the same household)
thanks again (explanations or links are fine)

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

  • IOS: Thoughts on scaling down Retina content for iPad 2?

I don't have a non-Retina device to test on (yet. Still early in development on my universal first app), so I was wondering if anyone else is considering scaling Retina content down 50% for non-Retina devices? (iPod Touch 3rd Gen, iPhone 3GS & iPad 2) This method would sure be nicer than having to package a bunch of extra images!
Testing for appearance in Flash CS 5.5, this scaling method seems to work fine, with the exception of small text; (button labels) doesn't look that great. Anybody have some insight or experience with scaling text on these screens? Will it look better on the actual device or should I import native resolution non-Retina elements for the smaller text?
Thanks for helping an iOS noob!

Update since I played with this some more today...
I decided to create new tab/nav bar with buttons at standard (non-Retina display) resolution and call that in for non-Retina devices, while scaling down my app pages 50%. (Larger text seems to look fine when scaled down) I dropped the font on my button labels from Helvetica Neue "medium" to "regular" as well as checking "use device fonts." Both actions seemed to bring a marked improvement on legibility for the small font size (11). Hopefully this will all check out when I get to test it on a real non-Retina device, but I do hear Apple's hardware does a pretty good job at scaling.
    Hope this helps someone...

  • Recipe for iPAD retina display

    Hi,
Does anyone have a 'recipe' for processing photos for the ipad retina display.
I'm a bit confused as to trying to print to jpeg (with what settings?) or export.
I've tried a bit, but not been really happy with the results.
    What do you do?
    hans

You could also have a read of Jeffrey Friedl's Lightroom-to-iPad workflow: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/ipad-howto2
This is effectively a Publish Service which can publish via FTP directly to a client app on the iPhone, thus bypassing iTunes and the iPad Photos app completely. I converted to this a few months back. Well worth a read.
PS I use exactly the same settings as Rikk, although I first crop all the images (VCs) to 4x3 if possible to ensure they are viewed full screen on the iPad.

  • Will 13 in Macbook Pro with Retina 2.6 ghz be good enough for engineering student

I'm purchasing a new macbook and not really sure which one to get. I have been thinking about getting the 13 in 2.6 ghz Macbook Pro with Retina, but will that be good enough for engineering programs such as AutoCad?

I agree that it would be slow, but the biggest limitation is RAM. 4GB simply won't,  er, cut it.
A similar mac with at least 8GB, and a fast external drive, would work, even if not very speedy.
It really comes up to time, as babylonslim said.
If you need to cut very quickly, you need a machine like he described. On the other hand, I have no doubt that my very own, very old 2010 17" MBP could do the job - it has 8GB, and I use an external drive connected through e-SATA. The GPU is not nearly as fast as present day ones, and it only has a  dual core i7 GPU. It would take longer, but it would work.

on my iPad (Retina Display) in Google why would a site come up that I have not any knowledge of?  Not one that I have EVER looked for?

As far as I could see - only once.  All morning I have had trouble with connecting to my WiFi.  I blame AppleSupport who were trying to help me with a totally different problem and they asked me to "Reset" my iPad - and I lost my Wifi connection and had a huge amount of trouble getting back on.  Now every time I boot up the iPad and try to get on-line it asks for my Password for WiF!  Not happy.
