Is 500mb of swap used normal when there is still free memory?

The number of applications actually doesn't matter one bit. It's the type of applications and what kind of RAM they need. I have read some Mac engineers say that some applications need to preallocate RAM because of what they do, although OS X provides for ways to do that which will allow that RAM to be released to other applications if needed.
I could open 12 consumer apps and not see much change in swap file usage. But I could reboot and open just Photoshop and have it make a panorama or HDR of several DSLR images, or fire up a single 3D, motion graphics, or scientific program, and RAM/swap file requirements could instantly outpace anything general office apps could ever need.
Since you're new to OS X, you might want to become familiar with the UNIX memory management model that OS X uses. In other words, RAM management in OS X may be unlike what you were used to before, but its UNIX-based model is normally very efficient, especially with the new Mavericks RAM compression.
Also, based on what I've seen (using graphics apps), only 500MB swap wouldn't even get my attention...

Our Java application's memory usage keep growing. Further analysis of the heap memory using JProbe shows that the allocated heap memory goes up even when there is enough free memory available in the heap.
When the process started, allocated heap memory was around 50MB and the memory used was around 8MB. After few hours, the inuse memory remains at 8MB (slight increase in KBs), but the allocated memory went upto 70MB.
We are using JVM 1.5_10. What could be the reason for heap allocation going up even when there is enough free memory available in heap?

Database version:11.2.0.1.0
Our database Instance Using Swap Space even When There is Plenty of Free RAM.
We have 80GB of physical RAM, 32GB is set to oracle SGA_MAX_SIZE
memory parameters:
memory_max_target big integer 32G
memory_target big integer 32G
sga_max_size big integer 32G
sga_target big integer 32G
but still oracle is taking memory from swap even though we have enough physical memory.

We have one more box where same setup was configured in solaris platform but there the above memory parameters are not disabled but it is not using swap space it takes memry only from physical RAM
Can any one throw some lights on this issue. It wopuld be great if I come to know where the exact problem

I didn't say I am not using 11gr2 memory parameters I am using all the automatic memory parameters but the thinks is as per the metalink note I tried by disabling the automatic memory parameters. but that didn't help me in preventing unnecessary swap usage. So I reverted. now it is using automatic memory parameters.
so What is the solution for this?

Observation: SAP uses swap space even when OS has available unused memory

It is my understanding that any memory not used by the Linux OS itself or the SAP application is available for Linux to use for I/O buffers and file caching. When the SAP application requires more memory I would expect Linux to take memory away from itself (release I/O buffer and/or file caching memory).
We have observed that SAP uses swap space even when there is memory available. Is there some feature in SAP kernel or some ABAP construct that causes SAP to prefer swap space over available memory? Or maybe there is a Linux kernel setting that influences SAP's use of swapping.

You did not mention which distribution you have. Under SLES there is is a parameter called SWAPPINESS, which controls the buffering/swapping.
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
If you don't already know, you can see the memory usage with the free command.

As far as i know, in this example 3274 is memory used by SAP and other processes and 4712 is cache. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Edit: a low swappines, for example 10 means to reduce cache first, a high swappiness (example 100) means page out processes first

Delete the payment details from a BPmaster data when there is still an deal

what happens when i delete the payment details from a BP master data (counter party role in payment details tab ) when there is still an outstanding deal for this BP?
Will this be reflected in the saved deal, so will the deal go into error after the payment details have been removed?
I test this scenario in my dev system with following steps
1. I create a deal with t code FTR_CREATE
2. Delete all payment details from BP Master (counter party role in payment details tab )
3. i settle deal t code FTR_EDIT
4. I run TBB1 to create a payment request
5. then i run F111 and all required details and also payment request system is create payment without any error
all the able steps i did with out any error ... i think system should through error while running F111 t code because in BP master all data is deleted .
so i want to know whether system will through error mesg when we delete payment details from BP MASTER

The payment details are only a standing instruction which is captured by various create programs for respective financial transaction. Further, it is derived only once at the time of creation each time.
Deleting payment details will not give you any error message for already created transactions, for new transactions, you may have to put it manually at the time of creation else will throw an error message with TBB1.

I think you can try with Status Profile in BS02 define and assign for item category TANN.
In status profile you can block the delivery and also billing unless some changes the object status as released.

Does the adapter use power when there's no phone connected?

I was wondering: Does the Apple poweradapter consume electricity, when there's no iPhone (or iPad etc.) connected to it?
I leave my adapters and cables in a poweroutlet all the time, which I can turn off but I was just curious about this. I read different things all over the internet, so I thought it would be best to ask my question here.
I have the original Apple 10W adapters, with the lightning usb cable, iPhone 5 and iPad 4. I live in The Netherlands by the way, if that makes any difference.

StefanWall adapters do use a very small amount ... but it is miniscule, and not worth considering. Though I suppose there would be an unacceptable loss in 'green' eyes if there were 10,000 of them connected.

Inactive memory is growing until there is no free memory
Recently something happened and inactive memory commence growing from time to time. Even if I do nothing and have no application running. File cache eats all free memory (24Gb) in a couple of minutes and then OS is getting too slow.
sudo purge helps, sometimes after purging cache stops growing and sometimes I have to purge a few times.
Two month ago there was no such a behavior, I have no idea what's happened to the OS.

The message shouldn't have anything to do with iCloud storage. You need the free space on the iPad itself, not in iCloud. You have to free up space on the iPad by deleting content. You can delete any movies, videos, apps, or whatever you want to delete in Settings>General>Usage>Storage.

You can't call the super class constructor directly if you are trying to construct the sub-class. When you call it directly it will construct an instance of the super class but that instance will NOT be an integral part of the 'MultiListener' sub class you are trying to create.
So since 'MultiListener' extends JPanel if you call the JPanel constructor directly (not using super) your code constructing a new instance of JPanel but that instance will not be an ancestor of your class that extends JPanel. In fact that constructor call will not execute until AFTER the default call to 'super' that will be made without you even knowing it.
A 'super' call is ALWAYS made to the super class even if your code doesn't have an explicit call. If your code did not include the line:
super(new GridBagLayout()); Java would automatically call the public default super class constructor just as if you had written:
super();If the sub class cannot access a constructor in the super class (e.g. the super class constructor is 'private') your code won't compile. -

The formatting of emails on my iphone 5 don't display properly yet they are correct when viewed via my laptop. Using a gmail account on my iphone/laptop. On my iphone the sentences break in unusual spots and continue on the next line. Why is this and how can I fix this issue?
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Also consider deleting and reinstalling the Mail Account in question. -
Showing there's used space when there isn't
I have a 30 GB video iPod and it is showing there is over 7 GB worth of space used. I totally removed everything from my iPod so there shouldn't be anything on there. In iTunes there are no songs, no videos...NOTHING...yet it's showing that 7.86 GB are being used. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, reset my iPod, everything and I just don't get it. Please help =(
