Is 8.1 optimized for gaming?

A question came to my head I know that 8.1 is for business, but does it have optimizations for gaming?

Hello WolfyGames,
There are several benefit to use Windows 8.1 compared to Windows 7.
For example:
1. Windows 8.1 can increase system speed due to resource saved in Aero of Glass effect in Windows 7
2. Windows 8.1 can use touchscreens, it is good for gaming experience
3. Secure booting on UEFI systems is also included with 8.1, making it much harder for rogue malware to infect the bootloader. It helps to increase the system and gaming experience in an indirect way.
In conclusion, windows 8.1 is a good choice for you.

  • What can I do to make mac optimized for gaming?

So I have a Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. I am puting Windows 7 via Bootcamp Assistant on it soon. I am going to be gaming on it. I am not planing on upgrading the Mac itself, as I have already done so. I want to know like is there settings to put it on so games run smoother? Or apps to download? Also how can I make the display better on my monitor. I am getting monitors this monday but today I plugged it in to a 46 inch tv and noticed it looked like it was hookey up via VGA. Is there settings for that to. Thanks in advance

Depends on what games you are wanting to play. Games like battlefield and call of duty are alright on there but your frame rate will not be brilliant unless you run on minimum settings. If your looking at playing more high end graphic and performance depending games then your really better of just buying a gaming rig. There are however numerous amounts of tips and tricks that you can find on google to optimise performance on windows 7. But at the end of the day you can only do so much.

  • Configure a new 27" iMac for gaming help

My gaming computer right now is a first generation version 1.1 Mac Pro from 2006 That is more than a little long in the tooth despite having a video card upgrade to ATI 4870 in 2010 playing the beta of Elder Scrolls Online this month it chugs at just less than 30fps in to 1920x1200 it drops to under 10fps at times.
So it is time for a new computer as it is passing into the realm of no longer being able to keep up to date and due to its mother board design it is limited to osx 10.7 and under bootcamp win XP is the newest it will run
I am something of a mac diehard having bought my first Mac March of 1984 and though I no longer work on my PC (retired) I enjoy playing computer games for a few hours each day. Looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online in a few days and enjoying the improved flow of osx games seen over the last few years (but I do play games like skyrim and the fallouts under bootcamp and XP sp3.
So my  target system seems to be a new iMac 27"  at just under $3,000
    Specifications
3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
    3TB Fusion Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
    Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Accessory Kit and of course a few thunderbolt to FireWire 800 converters
while I doubt I will get the 8 years between systems that this old pro got me it should be fine for the next 3 to 5 years
A new Mac Pro no longer makes sense as I no longer do the solid modeling work that justified a pro back in 06 also the new pro uses workstation graphics cards that are not optimal for games
So run with the antique Mac Pro 1.1 at medium to high graphics ( low in crowded areas ) with most of the other graphics options turned off at best for the next year or blow the tax refund on a high optioned 27" iMac
I thought of trying to find a last version Mac Pro tower used on eBay as that would mean I could just swap over all my FireWire 800 stuff and not have buy the thunderbolt converters but I do not have a good feel as to how good the last version Mac Pro will be as a gaming computer hence my question here and I will also post this over in the Mac Pro forum if it is thought to be a good idea to go with the find a last years Mac Pro idea
    Thoughts?

Of course! And XP is no longer supported after this spring this is what I am stuck running on my no longer upgradable Mac Pro. I will of course install the windows 7 pro 64 sp1 that I run on my 2009 mac book pro under boot camp.
Either I find a good last model Mac Pro (I think September 13 is the last version) or I go with the 27" iMac outlined above. But either way it is about  a $3,000 spend, all I am seeing on the refurb list at the apple store here of late are 2012 vintage pros, so I guess if I want a last version pro it will be eBay.... That always bothers me as I have not had the best luck getting stuff there.
And that is why I am asking about the loaded iMac 27 as a gaming machine

  • G4 MDD for gaming (Tiger & some classic) single v dual questions . .

I'm setting up a computer for gaming.
OS X 10.4.11 (or 10.3 if thats better suited?)
Unreal, Icewind dale, Giants, Sacred, Shadow Bane, etc . .
All the older games 00 -04
Would it make more sense to use a 1.25 single cpu vs 867DP or 1Ghzdp?
Since tiger does not spport dual core, I'd assume most of the games don't either?
I know the 1.25 (or even a 1ghz single) runs much cooler than the dual under load.
Basically is a dual a waste without using Leopard or software that supports multi core cpu?
    Any ideas?

When you say tiger is dual processor aware, how is it and when does it benefit?
Multi threading is supported in dual processor machines, allowing for the distribution of tasks (within one or with multiple tasks), making for faster performance. Boot, OS background services and processes, multi tasking, etc., are all improved and utilize the OS X multi processor/multi threading ability.
Granted, the processes are relatively rudimentary (as compared to forthcoming OS versions), but the support is there.
A major factor is that accompanying software must also be multi processor aware to gain benefits beyond OS X functions.
also how does this matter if the game is not dual processor aware?
No (or little) benefit will be derived from multi processors with SP processor optimized software.
Some CPU intensive gaming will be improved, simply due the the multithreading ability of the OS X core services.
Some DP aware software define which tasks are broken between two processors. In the case of UT2004, the audio portion is assigned to a separate processor, to allow more computational power of the other processor to be applied to graphics.
Other software simply allows the OS services to assign threads as the system protocols dictate.
This is only possible with a multi processor aware OS.
Actually, the ability of the OS to be DP aware began in OS 9. 3rd party software, however, was slow to take advantage of the ability.
Currently, multi processing aware software has to add multi core awareness to gain full benefit of current machines like the Mac Pro.
This is one of the big areas of development in OS X 10.6.
(When I used the term dual core, I just meant dual processors as in the mdd series)
I figured that you know the difference, but many don't. Keeping the terms straight is for the benefit of clarity and for all readers.

    Hello there philp_69,
If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone hasnt been recognized in iTunes on your PC since the last couple of updates. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article which will walk you through the steps one by one.

  • Which Imac would be better for gaming?

So i've got a choice between these two models -
    £1329.60
3.1GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
TB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    8gb Ram
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1GB GDDR5
    Apple care
    27 inch model
    3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB (two 4GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M with 1GB video memory
    Apple care
    £1407.60
Basically, the decision is down to, do I want a slightly better graphics card and bigger screen, or a smaller screen and better processer?
I just want to gauge opinions, i'll be using it as my day to day computer as well, some video editing, but nothing too strenuous. How big is the difference in graphic and processing powers.
    Thanks for your help

With all due respect the question was "which iMac would be better for gaming?".  Key word here is 'better', not 'perfect', not 'ideal'; just 'better'. Unqualified answers and/or sweeping statements do very little to contribute to a discussion, let alone answer the question under consideration.

  • New Macbook Pro 2014 for Gaming / casual use

Hello there! I currently have a 2011 13" Macbook Pro with
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    16GB RAM
    500GB Harddrive
    and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
I really like to play video games but with this current setup ^ its very sluggish and I get very low FPS
I'm considering getting the  13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and with the 3.0GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
    My questions:
Will this computer be able to handle a constant 60fps in most games? (Borderlands 2, portal 2, Bioshock Infinite)
And I've heard other places that this computer also has a Nividia graphics card that it switches over to when you play anything that requires more than the Intel 4000 that it comes with.
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi there!
    No it wont.
Macbook Pro's hardware are mediocre for gaming. In your specific case, the 13" does not offer the possibility of a dedicated graphics card, only comes with Intel Iris. The 15" one does, the NVIDIA GT 750M with 2gb, yet it's weak for gaming above 40-50 fps, also dual-core processors are not very powerful these days either and you will most likely experience heating issues on intensive gaming sessions. If you like gaming Mac is not very efficient for it, unless you get a mac pro, but of course you would loose portability. The 27" iMac can be set with the GT 780m, it has 4gb but its still weak since its a mobile graphic chip as well, even the 5k iMac uses almost identical hardware setup than the regular iMac but with an AMD chip (also 4gb ram), while the 5k looks great with such hardware it is unable to handle smooth gaming on that resolution as well.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not here to trash Apple, at the office we work with around 8 to 10 macbook pros but none of them, not even high end ones are able to game smoothly, in fact, some games run better on windows via bootcamp than OS X.
    Hope it helps.

  • I need to download a version of Firefox that is optimized for Yahoo! but I cannot use Firefox 4 for Yahoo! because it doesn't support Norton 360 as of yet. Any suggestions?

If you do have any suggestions, where can I find it? The only place I know of is the http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html web site and you can only get version 3.6.16 there and it's NOT optimized for Yahoo!. Please help!
Yahoo! keeps sending me the following message in a box on my screen along with the links to Firefox 4 and IE : Attention: Please upgrade to the latest Yahoo! optimized browser to ensure the best Yahoo! experience. But, as I stated in the question above, I cannot use Firefox 4 yet because it does NOT support Norton 360. Plus, I don't trust IE8 to use Facebook!
Thanks for any help you can give me! Your very prompt attention to this question is greatly appreciated as I am sort of at a standstill before moving on with my work.

I have a 16GB 3GS phone since about20 months now. For the last few days, my phone is constantly giving me message that the accessory attached to my phone is not optimized for this iphone. You may experience noise or poor communication, while there is no acessory attached to it. I always used standard headphones and charging cable. Now when i recall, it started at one of the sync sessions with my itunes. I have turned my phone off and aon again and again but the message keeps coming every one or two minutes.I have also started loosing voicce on different applications like youtube etc. Also the ringer volume up and down key does not show me the small boxes increasing or decreasing on screen. The phone is playing crazy. Can someone help please
    Thanks
    Zia

It helped earlier but it has come back again. I don't know what to do. I tried what you said earlier but this time even this is not working either. And quite intrestingly my phone won't turn off. I turn it off, it goes off and then restarts on its own and then keep giving the same message again and again.
Could it be a charging cable, is there any chance that the cable which was working fine one day could turn to be "incompatible" with iphone the other day????????
    Please help

  • Just started getting intermittent error on my 3G:This accessory is not optimized for iPhone..." but nothing is connected or plugged in to it or anything?

Was just checking my iPhone and when I pressed the home button to wake it up the message "no sim installed" was on the screen,  obviously it was so I restarted the phone, that cleared it but then I started intermittently getting a popup message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone...(don't remember the rest), did a hard reset and still happening once in a while, there isn't anything plugged into or connected to my phone at all though, would appreciate any help or advice please

The most common reason for message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone" with nothing plugged in, is dust, debris etc. in the iPhone dock port. Clean the dock port with a clean dry toothbrush. If the message returns again, clean the dock port again very carefully using some isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib.

  • I want to instal windows 7 using bootcamp on my mac book pro and how large do i have to make the partition if i want to use it for gaming?

"At least 16 GB of free space on the disk onto which you’re installing for 32-bit, or 20 GB for 64-bit (for Microsoft Windows and Windows-based applications)."
That's what Apple proposes in here Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows
Personally I would double these amounts and add to that the diskspace needed for your Windows games.

  • IMac for Gaming using Win XP Pro

Early 2006 I purchased an iMac 2.0 w/ 2G RAM using x1600 ATI card w/ beta boot camp using XP Pro for gaming purposes.
Now I want to expand my horizons a bit to a new iMac with the same idea as above.
My gaming includes Battlefield 2, COD4, and soon Crysis. So here is the system I want:
iMac 3.06 w/ nvidia 8800 GS which I read is NOT the 8800 but some other nvidia card. I want to expand to 4G RAM, BUT replacing all the RAM with either Crucial or Kingston for Dual Channel. Will XP Pro be stable w/ 4G dual channel? Will this system utilize DX 10. w/ the nvidia card on this Mac? If I get Crysis, I want to be able to set everything on HIGH. Are there any Driver problems that I should be aware of?

:I went to Mozilla's website and downloaded the Firefox Optimized for Yahoo, following the directions. The download installed easily, but when it opened my Yahoo web page (I already had an account with them), the Java Script error message "Uninstall set!" immediately began alerts, and kept repeating the alert about every 15 seconds. I got the same result even after uninstalling Firefox and downloading a fresh installation. I am only getting this alert via Firefox; I do not get it when using my Yahoo page with Google. Thanks.
