Is a 11g cluster (11.1.0.7 ) can be use with 10g RDBMS (10.2.0.4)?

Hi,
We would like to upgrade to version 11g our 10g cluster (servers).
We would like to keep the rdbms to 10.2.0.4 for a couple of weeks, the time to be shure all the application do not have impact with the new RDBMS version (optimisation and performance).
In one single word, is it possible and secure to upgrade our cluster in 2 step?
1e step upgrade the cluster
2e step upgrade the rdbms (few weeks later)
I know i should upgade de two componants but is it possible and what can be the impact ?
I forgot to say the cluster is a 64-bit version

    That is what REUSE does when adding a datafile.
    When datafiles from an old instance are available, they can be added to the instance by recreating the controlfile(s), either a) adjust the CONTROL_FILES parameter to point at new filename(s), or b) just move (or remove) all the instance controlfiles, shutdown immediate; startup nomount, do the CREATE CONTROLFILE ... ; DDL, alter database open resetlotgs; and recreate the tempfile(s).
    See the post How to and when to recreate control files. for a nice how-to.
    Basically the create controlfile steps bring the old instance back to life (aka reincarnate). The important bit can be had by doing an alter database backup controlfile to trace; as mentioned in one of the comments, trace file with the DDL is created in the instance trace folder with the create controlfile... and other bits of info.
    One caveat, if the instance was open datafile recovery is required before opening the database, and will require the archivelog files to redo committed transactions and rollback uncommitted transactions. If the instance was not in archivelog mode, the old redo logfiles *might* have enough info for the recovery. Or they may not- that is a risk of noarchivelog mode.

  • Can I use oracle client 10g express to work on oracle 11g database

    I have installed an oracle DB 11g, I also installed oracle client 10g express edition to create users and tables. I noticed that the users I created can't connect to db with error message "Error java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" and tables I created can't access from my program. I get error message "Error java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist". I start to suspect that client 10g express edition can't use with oracle 11g. Please help.
    any suggestion is appreciated.

    since we pass to 64-bit window 2003 our cluster (32-bit before). The disk manager service under window stop after 3 to 4 days. At this moment, Oracle stop (ASM do not have any more disk to access).
    Some time the server reboot with out reason.
    Did someone had this problem with 11g cluster under window 2003 64-bit.

    We have installed the Webcenter site 11g Cluster install on Weblogic server successfully. We have faced any issues while installation. After successful installtion , When we login to sample sites( going here & then) and click on the LOGOUT button on the page , its not logging out , again it is landing with same page where we clicked LOGOUT button.
    We shutdown one cluster server (NODE1) , and NODE2 was up and running , now logout issue is not persisting and same NODE2 was down and NODE1 was up , now also no issue. BUT , if we start accessing sites from LBR url , this logout issue facing. There is no Error in sites..log & cas.log.
    :-( we have created the ORacle SR , but still we have not received any soln.
    Please help us , what could be the issue here.

    It's possible this is due to the cas url not being set correctly. In SSOConfig.xml you have two places to set this
    casUrl - needs to be set to the external address for cas, this link will be included in pages visible to the end user (eg via webserver or loadbalancer).
    casInternalUrl - needs to be set to an internal address for cas, Sites/CS will call this directly (should not go through webserver/loadbalancer)
    If these are correct, then try to rule out whether the webserver/loadbalancer is an issue
    - is it session sticky?
    - if you set casUrl / casInternalUrl to point direct to cas can you login/logout direct to CS without the loadbalancer?

    I am using Oracle 11g (11.2.0.2) cluster and on which 10g database(10.2.0.2) database and listener is registered.
    I have a problem in using srvctl (10g) to check the listener status.It's throwing error but i am able to start and stop listsner service using srvctl:

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 with RAC 11g cluster install fails on root.sh ioctl

    I have 2 HP Servers I'm trying to install a cluster to.
    I've tried Oracle Linux 6.2 and 6.3 with the same error on both nodes when running the root.sh script.
    I have tried the permissions, run-levels, etc that I have found in the forum and nothing has worked except the deconfigure works great. /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force
    root.sh Errors:
    Adding daemon to inittab
    CRS-4124: Oracle High Availability Services startup failed.
    CRS-4000: Command Start failed, or completed with errors.
    ohasd failed to start: Inappropriate ioctl for device
    ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
    I can't see whats wrong, I did use ASM to configure iSCSI disks from a storage device which appeared to work correctly:
    # oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    VOL5
    # ls /dev/oracleasm/disks/
    VOL1 VOL2 VOL3 VOL5
    When I created the disks with ASM I used multipath successfuly:
    # oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/mapper/23535333762373932
    The other node can see the disks just fine with oracleasm listdisks
    I chose 3 disks for the OCR - VOL1-3
    There was one forum work around to edit the $GRID_HOME/crs/install/s_crsconfig_lib.pm which I did no Oracle Linux 6.3 to no avail. I also tried using NFS mounted volumes for the OCR drives but got the same error.
    Using the install: linux.x64_11gR2_grid

    oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.
    upon review of this document, even though it was for 10g, it still appears to be relevant

    and
    udev utility can be used for disk mounting consistency between the nodes. It is the preferred tool. Note:371814.1 explains how to use the udev option.

    Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
    Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

  • HOWTO: Create 2-node Solaris Cluster 4.1/Solaris 11.1(x64) using VirtualBox

    I did this on VirtualBox 4.1 on Windows 7 and VirtualBox 4.2 on Linux.X64. Basic pre-requisites are : 40GB disk space, 8GB RAM, 64-bit guest capable VirtualBox.
    Please read all the descriptive messages/prompts shown by 'scinstall' and 'clsetup' before answering.
    0) Download from OTN
    - Solaris 11.1 Live Media for x86(~966 MB)
    - Complete Solaris 11.1 IPS Repository Image (total 7GB)
    - Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.1 IPS Repository image (~73MB)
    1) Run VirtualBox Console, create VM1 : 3GB RAM, 30GB HDD
    2) The new VM1 has 1 NIC, add 2 more NICs (total 3). Setting the NIC to any type should be okay, 'VirtualBox Host Only Adapter' worked fine for me.
    3) Start VM1, point the "Select start-up disk" to the Solaris 11.1 Live Media ISO.
    4) Select "Oracle Solaris 11.1" in the GRUB menu. Select Keyboard layout and Language.
    VM1 will boot and the Solaris 11.1 Live Desktop screen will appear.
    5) Click <Install Oracle Solaris> from the desktop, supply necessary inputs.
    Default Disk Discovery (iSCSI not needed) and Disk Selection are fine.
    Disable the "Support Registration" connection info
    6) The alternate user created during the install has root privileges (sudo). Set appropriate VM1 name
    7) When the VM has to be rebooted after the installation is complete, make sure the Solaris 11.1 Live ISO is ejected or else the VM will again boot from the Live CD.
    8) Repeat steps 1-6, create VM2 and install Solaris.
    9) FTP(secure) the Solaris 11.1 Repository IPS and Solaris Cluster 4.1 IPS onto both the VMs e.g under /home/user1/
    10) We need to setup both the packages: Solaris 11.1 Repository and Solaris Cluster 4.1
    11) All commands now to be run as root
    12) By default the 'solaris' repository is of type online (pkg.oracle.com), that needs to be updated to the local ISO we downloaded :-

    configured. The other 2 are for the cluster interconnect and will be automatically configured by scinstall. Execute the following commands :-

    Select "Yes" for "Is it okay to accept the default network address"
    Select "Yes" for "Is it okay to accept the default network netmask"Now the IP addresses 172.16.0.0 will be plumbed in the 2 private interfaces
    Select "yes" for "Do you want to turn off global fencing"
    (These are SATA serial disks, so no fencing)
    Enter "Yes" for "Do you want to disable automatic quorum device selection"
    (we will add quorum disks later)
    Enter "Yes" for "Proceed with cluster creation"
    Select "No" for "Interrupt cluster creation for cluster check errors"
    The second node will be configured and 2nd node rebooted
    The first node will be configured and rebootedAfter both nodes have rebooted, verify the cluster has been created and both nodes joined.
    On both nodes :-

    At this point there are no quorum disks, so 1 of the node's will be designated quorum vote. That node VM has to be up for the other node to come up and cluster to be formed.

    Now the cluster is in 'Installation Mode' and we need to add a quorum disk.
    Shutdown both the nodes as we will be adding shared disks to both of them

    The disks are attached to SATA ports 1 & 2 of each VM. On my VirtualBox on Linux, the controller type is "SATA", whereas on Windows it is "SATA Controller".
    The "--mtype shareable' parameter is important

    Mark both disks as shared :-

    By default, global fencing is enabled for these disks. We need to turn it off for all disks as these are SATA disks :-

    30) Run 'clquorum status' to confirm both nodes and the quorum disk have 1 vote each
    31) Run other cluster commands to explore!
    I will cover Data services and shared file system in another post. Basically the other shared disk
    can be used to create a UFS filesystem and mount it on all nodes.

  • Using USB NI-6008 on LV7.1 the results data has to be in Excel. It looks as cluster data format that i can not insert into excel VI

    I am Using USB 6008 with LV 7.1. The application is voltage logger and i would like to use excel and upload the data . The Columns will be the channels and the rows will be the data.
    The data comes from the DAQmx vi not like a simple string or an number it is kind of cluster data
    which contains strings and numbers and more for each measurement.
    I tryed to work with spraedshit and it goes ok but it is not conveniant to convert later to excel.
    Do you have a solution for that please?
    (How to extract the data from the cluster type format that is used with USB6008).

    I hope all is well. If you are trying to write data to a text file along with the header information, you could do the following:
    1. Open a reference to a file and write the header information right away.
    2. Do your continuous acquisition (in a loop) using the 6008 and write the data to a file everytime.
    3. With the proper formatting, your colums will represent channels and your rows data.

    Can we use multiple "pivot_for_clauses" in 11g SQL PIVOT. Below SQL is an example of what I am trying to do - In this case instead of using JOIN, can I have three pivot_for_clauses in the same sql?

  • How can I use the DBAdapter with SequencingPollingStrategy in OSB Cluster?

    Hi!
    I have a OSB cluster. I need to read a view with the DBAdapter. I use SequencingPollingStrategy to implement the adapter.
    Then I import it into OSB and make it work and the service works normally in the single node.
    But if I import it into OSB cluster, the service always read the duplication records from the view.(the Distrbute polling is not worked in SequencingPollingStrategy )
    So how can I use the DBAdapter with SequencingPollingStrategy in OSB Cluster?

    Nope. Version 5 is a fashion accessory: it looks like software, but it doesn;t actually do anything. Sort of like a sports car with a lawn-mower engine. Looks snzzy. Doesn't really work.     We've just migrated to Oracle 11g and we noticed that some of our view are very slow (it takes seconds in 10g and takes 30 minutes in 11g), and the tables are using the local table.
    Do any of you face the same issue?

    Build the Indexes and it is still slow. I am querying from a view from another database, which is in 10g instances.
