Is A 2007 (August) Mac Book Pro Run Well Under Yosemite?

I thought the question clear.
My MBP is happily running with Maverick now however are there known issues, like slowing down or incompatibility of hardware with that device and this O/S?
Of course I will do a back up prior IF I do go forward, but has anyone heard of 'stuff & stuff' ?
TIA,
=Len

How much RAM do you have? 4GB is about the minimum required for smooth operation and more is better.
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

  • Mac Book Pro running slow since Yosemite

Well sine installing Yosemite, my Mac is slow. I am not impressed with the new look and feel. All the minor changes seems to make my life and Mac more difficult. I have checked my storage space and I have lots of memory to be running Yosemite. I have checked the user group settings to ensure there are no programs running at start up, which use to be instant now takes a few minutes when turning on and I have to sign into my Mac. If I knew it was going to be like this I would have just installed Windows with the hassle.
I would like Maverick back..... or any better suggestions as I am LOVE my Macbook pro with retina display and want it back to working in prime condition prior to the Yosemite.
Here as some of the issues:
Turn on time 1-2 minutes plus I have to sign in
    Safari s...l.....o.....w
Most programs are slow or shut down randomly such as pages and keynote
Synching with iPad and iPhone not always quick even know everything is cloud based (i.e.. took a picture the other day on iPhone, show on iPad still not on my laptop)
Just hate the look - but I guess I can live with that... or if someone knows how to make the tool bar clear again that would be great, not happy with the white.
These are just the surface of my issues, but the speed is the main item for all programs right now.

Download and run EtreCheck http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck and post its result here. Hopefully it'll shad some light on your issue.

  • Unable to install Flash Player 16.0.0.305 on Mac Book Pro running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2

Trying to update Flash Player and will not install. This is what I have done:
I downloaded the update and it failed to install.
Ran the uninstaller and and ran a clean install. Downloaded and got to 75% and got a general failure.
Went to the troubleshooting page and did the following:
    Verified no flash installed
Not being asked to close browser because I closed it before starting the installer
Verified Flash player is enabled in Safari
Installer started so that isn’t the problem
Performed uninstall and clean install again
Tried the NPAPI link for Mac
    I also tried the following:
    Uninstall
    Download Installer
    Shut down computer
    Restarted computer
Started installer failed at 75% again

    Hi karis20774009,
To accurately identify the issue, and help us improve the online installer experience, we would really appreciate it if you could do the following for us:
Perform a speed test on your internet connection.  There are a myriad of sites that do this, for example, www.speedtest.net,www.speakeasy.net/speedtest, www.dslreports.com/speedtest, and your internet provider may also have a page in their support/help section to do a speedtest.
    Goto Location --> ~/Librarly/Logs/Adobe_ADMLogs
Upload the two log files (Adobe_ADM.log and Adobe_GDE.log) using the instructions posted here https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1408375
Reply back to this thread with the results of the download speed test and the URL to the uploaded log files.
In the mean time, the offline installer is posted at Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac page in the 'Still having problems' section should work for you.
    Thank you in advance.

Using multiple desktops with a 4 finger swipe on a Mac Book Pro running Lion- is there a way that I can allow Safari open on several but not all??  Looks like I can set it for one but not others.  All, one, or nothing

    Hey Eric,
Thanks for taking the time. Unfortunately no that does not solve it. Same as swipe it will get me there and it will show separate programs spaced out. The issue I am having is that all my open word files are bunched up in a pile on top of each other. I can see the edges of each one but I want them to be separated from each other enough that I can visually identify what file is what.
Again, thanks for trying, it is appreciated.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

The 2009's didn't support sound on HDMI. That came in 2010. Are you sure it ever worked?

Now when I access my bank website, I can get past the login to my account page but the data is permanently unavailable. The bank says no one else has this problem. Everything is up to date as far as software is concerned. . .I just update anything that comes up. I have not had this problem with this computer anywhere else and I am not having a problem with any other website. I have the problem with both Safari and Google Chrome.

  • Is it possible to install Lightroom 2.0 onto a Mac Book Pro running 10.8.5?

I have a disc for LR 2.0 and I am trying to install it onto my Mac Book Pro running 10.8.5.   I have tried three times and the installation has failed with a message saying contact the manufacturer.
I have managed to install Lightroom 1.0 from disc and it opens but will not allow me to create a new catalogue.
Is this just a compatibility fail?

Try installing 2.7 from here: Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh   Historically, installing a download has often worked better than installing from CD.

  • How do i download 10.9 or 10.8 if i have a 2008 mac book pro running os x 10.5.8

    how do i download 10.9 or 10.8 if i have a 2008 mac book pro running 10.5.8

I might also add your signature is not in congruence with your post.  Do you have 10.8.5, or 10.5.8.  10.8.5 is a free update to 10.9.   10.5.8, you must buy 10.6, download the free 10.6.8 combo to get to 10.8 or 10.9 via the App Store.
The sequence of the numbers matters greatly.
    Per my prior post
    10.5.8 < 10.6< 10.6.8 < 10.7 < 10.8 < 10.8.5 < 10.9
People just wanting 10.7 from 10.5.8 can purchase either 10.6 on CD, download 10.6.6 combo, and use the App Store to upgrade to 10.7.   They can also purchase the 10.7 USB Flash drive if it can be found, and install it on an external drive, and import the data over once they are ready to run 10.7.
The key is knowing your software and driver compatibility.

Hi, I have a mac book pro running mavericks and recently tried to connect to a 3rd gen apple tv but the airplay icon is not showing up in the top bar. I then tried my girlfriends laptop running mountain lion and it showed up straight away. Any suggestions?

How old is the MacBook Pro?  AirPlay is only supported on 2011 and newer models, due to the requirements it has in hardware for graphics acceleration.

  • Hello. My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files. Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????? I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9

My safari (and i keep it updated) cannot open PDF files.Should i install Adobe Reader and which version????/ I have Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9
    Please help me!!!!

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • I have a mac book pro running Lion 10.7.4 and every time I use Google Earth The computer crashes by lowering a black curtain and then asking me to hold the power button down until it closes and press the power button again to restart it. Can I fix this?

I have a mac book pro running Lion 10.7.4 and every time I use Google Earth The computer crashes by lowering a black curtain and then asking me to hold the power button down until it closes and press the power button again to restart it. Can I fix this? It bugs me when I'm looking at real estate.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

  • One of the users on my Mac book pro, running Mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on

One of the users on my Mac book pro running mountain lion finds that no changes made in last session are there next time they log on.
For instance, the Macintosh HD icon, is always moved so that it is almost off the screen to top left hand side of the desktop.
None of my changes to the sidebar in the finder are there.
My changes to the dock have reverted.
Despite unticking the box when logging out, even though i have quit all applications, iphoto and safari are always re-opened.
iphoto always says the library needs to be upgraded... even though i did that the last time.
I have tried deleting ALL the files in the "Saved application state" folder in the library folder, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
This is on a second admin user account.
The main user account seems to be fine.
This account used to be in the filevault on Lion, but is not now in Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

The same tragic thing happened to me, not even a full two days after I bought it. I immediately powered it off, wiped it as best I could, and put it in front of a fan. I tried valiantly to get the back off, but couldn't remove all the screws. I was basically inconsolable until I realized that no matter what, my credit card insurance would cover it, since it had been less than 90 days. Fast forward 48 hours, and it seemed to run just fine. Some of the keys and the track pad were sticky, and I figured since it was covered, I might as well get it fixed. My only concern at this point was had I voided the Apple Care. I brought it in, told them what happened, said what I needed to satisfy the credit card, and they said, "We'll just swap it out for you, no problem." I was thrilled, and the Genius said they appreciated my honesty, and it was easier for all parties to just do it this way. And my Apple Care was transferred to the new machine. This was my first Mac and, needless to say, I am now an Apple devotee.

  • Mac book pro running slow and getting pop ups

mac book pro running slow and getting pop ups

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
