Is a Cintiq 24HD touch overkill if Illustrator/Photoshop is a hobby?

Is it overkill? I enjoy these programs very much, but I'm wondering if it's ridiculous to invest in something that large and complex (but oh so cool), or in one of the MANY Intuos pads I know little to nothing about. Any suggestions/ comments?

fannahhord,
What is wrong in overkill? Is that not what all the smartphones (and a great number of other devices, and with regular upsizing) are all about?
You should choose whichever size fits your need or desire, just make sure there is room enough for your (convenient) use of it. Larger ones call for drawing at a larger scale.
So you should try before you buy, to get a clear impression of what you are after.

  • Illustrator CC tools working strangely on Cintiq 24HD on OsX Yosemite.

Hello everyone. A couple of weeks ago I got a Cintiq 24HD to replace a previous one. I mostly use the tablets to work with PS but do some illustrator work with them too. So far I've used 3 different tablets with this same 27" iMac, a 21Ux, a 22HD (for only a day) and this 24HD one.
Ever since I switched to the 24HD, I haven't been able to use Illustrator due to a strange bug that messes up with every tool.
It seems like the tools "snap" to a point outside the area of the 24HD, to the far left of the screen, "pulling" everything I try to do towards that point, be it a selection or a figure or whatever I try.
Im attaching a picture to better illustrate this. In this picture my mouse pointer was located on the upper right corner of the long rectangle you see there. I was actually trying to pull the square tool to the right to create a perfect square, and that is what happens.
This only happens with illustrator. Photoshop works perfectly.
Anyone else having or experienced this sort of issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks a bunch, all help is most welcomed.
    George.

IIRC this issue has been brought up couple of weeks ago. Seems to be some issue with Yosemite (maybe only 10.10.2). There's not much you can do about it, but you might try and search for it in the forum.

Apparently, this is one more issue related to this Yosemite thing.

  • Does Wacom cintiq 24hd work with windows 8?

    Hello!
I want to buy the Wacom cintiq 24hd (the non-touch). I'm reading a little around the different sites, but I'm not able to see if it works with windows 8 or not. I need to know this so I can be sure I can use it with photoshop. I hope you are willing to help me out on this!
    -Karen

Wacom's own page for the Cintiq 24HD specifically states Windows 8 as one of OS's that work with it. (It's at the bottom; you have to click to expand the specs.)

  • Cintiq 24HD as third monitor

    Hello,
I am new to the forums, and would like some help.
My set up is as follows:
2010 Mac Pro 2x2.4 Quad-Core Intel Xeon - Running Lion
    12GB 1066 MHz DDR3
    2TB HD
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB Graphics
    Displays:
    27" LED Cinema Display
24" Acer HD Monitor (HDMI - Minidisplay port connector)
    Cintiq 24HD (Monitor Tablet)
    Now the problem!!
I recently purchased the Cintiq 24HD in hopes it could be used as a third monitor for my studio.  I was told it should work directly, and just to plug it into the computer next to the two minidisplay ports and it should work.  but when all three are connected, the Cintiq won't recognize.  I can only switch between the cintiq and my second monitor by unplugging the Acer HDMI connector, but i want to use all three at once and it won't let me.  Supposedly the HD5770 is powerful enough to support these three monitors / tablet.... Could anyone shed any light on the situation? Do I need to buy a seperate adapter?  Please help!!! Thanks.

The "AMD Eyefinity Validated Dongles" table doesn't show any active HDMI adapters.  I said that was problematic above.  I also said I don't know if you could get away with only using a single active adapter.  You may just have to do that experiment.
A couple of choices are the following:
DVI-D Single Link Male to HDMI® Female adapter
Passive adapter to plug you HDMI into your DVI port.
Accell B087B-006B UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Single-Link Active Adapter
This is on the Eyefinity table an is a active adapter to connect your Cintiq to your mDP.  And looking at the picture of the Accell it is a male DVI plug so I think you also need a DVI coupler (gender changer) since I assume your Cintiq has a male DVI plug.
    DVI Coupler (Female to Female)
As I said this is only considered an "experiment" since only one active adapter is being used.  At least it would answer the question about whether there's enough power with this setup.  If not then you need to figure out how to handle that DVI-to-HDMI connection with some kind of active adapter.
You should be able to see what's going on here.  It's sort of a a big "game".  You think up one set of requirments.  Do a whole lot of google searches to find out what's out there and if you can't find stuff to satisfy that set of requirements, think up some other set of alternatives, and try, try, again.
This was the technique I used and how I originally stumbled upon that DVI/SPDIF converter box.  I've since discovered that box is sold by a lot of online sources.  The only difference is each slaps a different decal on the top!
Note that given the setup I just descibed, if the single Accell B087B-006B isn't sufficient you may just have to consider that box since it will count as an active adapter for the HDMI connection.  It does for me (I use it for my TV), with my other "active" adapter being a (apple) mDP-to-VGA adapter to a 17" VGA monitor.  Other mDP is of course connected to my 27" ACD.

  • Why Photoshop Crashes with Cintiq 24HD  ???

    Hi there
I've recently bought a Cintiq 24 HD screen tablet to work on digital art, but after getting it installed, when opening any Photoshop version, it crashes inmediately.
I'm using Windows 7 updated properly, and also tried several Cintiq 24HD drivers.
The versions that crash are CS5 , CS5.1 and CS6. The rest of adobe programs work just fine, but Photoshop shows a "Photoshop had an error and must be closed" message as soon as it boots.I cannot even see the interface.
Also, don't know if it serves as reference, but the video player VLC started crashing exactly in the same way as Photoshop, after installing the Cintiq.
Strange that one of the best devices is crashing with one of the programs that are actually intended for.
Hope someone can help or at least give some information if they had the same issue.
    Thanks !!!

Don't mean to pass the buck but this would be a Cintiq driver problem.  E-mail Wacom with as much info as you can, like you have above.  They will have to go into the driver and make some tweeks.  PS users are a valued client so they should be responsive.

  • Cintiq 22HD Touch - is the touch feature working with PS CC?

    Hello,
Is the touch feature (zoom/scroll/rotate) working for a Cintiq HD22 Touch in PS CC under Windows 7? I can't make it work..and via google I found VERY contradicting informations.
And by the way...if I want to crop a painting, is there no way to do this per drag and drop like in Manga Studio, for example? I only found a mask to enter new dimensions (cm/pixel) instead of a function to drag a new frame about the part of the picture I want to keep.

Sorry for bothering, but is there really no one able to help, Adobe staff perhaps?
In this forum there are only threads that offer trouble shooting steps, some of them containing totally wrong information. But I didn't found a solution or definite answer.
Honestly, it's a shame that this (high end) piece of hardware is not properly supported by PS...but a lot of (cheaper and also good) software it is working smoothly and without any issues.... :/

  • How to open your Photoshop Touch project file in Photoshop

How to open your Photoshop Touch project file in Photoshop
When your files are stored in the Creative Cloud, you can access them on your mobile device using Adobe Photoshop Touch, or on your desktop computer using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop Touch can open files in the following formats: PSD*, PSDX, PNG, JPG, and GIF. And, with a free plug-in for Photoshop CS5, CS5.1, and CS6 you can open the PSDX files created by Photoshop Touch in Photoshop.
[Note: PSD files can only be opened via the Adobe Creative Cloud. The file is converted,  layers are flattened to a single layer, and  other info that is only supported in Photoshop is removed.]
Download the plug-in (if you have CS6, skip this section)
    1. If you have CS5 and CS5.1, you are required to download a plug-in to be able to open your PSDX files in Photoshop. If you have CS6, you are not required to download the plug-in (it is native within the version). In a browser on your desktop computer, navigate to the Creative Cloud Homepage ( https://creative.adobe.com ). Sign-in to Creative Cloud using your Adobe ID, then navigate to the Creative Cloud Apps & Services page (https://creative.adobe.com/apps).
    2. Click download under “Touch App Plug-ins” to start the download and install process. Included with the installer is a plug-in for Illustrator CS6, which enables opening of Ideas files (.idea) in Illustrator, and a plug-in for Photoshop CS5 and 5.1, which enables opening of Photoshop Touch files (.psdx) in Photoshop.
    3. You will be asked (if you haven't already) to install the Adobe Application Manager. Follow the steps to install the manager, and the Touch App Plugin should begin the download and installation process. If it does not, click install next to the “Touch App Plugins” icon in the Adobe Application Manager to start the process.
    4. You're all set to start opening your PS Touch files in Photoshop CS6.
To save a Photoshop Touch file for upload to the cloud.
    1. Launch Photoshop Touch and ensure that you are in the organizer view. (Tap Done in the upper-left corner of the screen to move from edit view to the organizer view.)
    2. Tap to display the share menu.
    3. Select the file(s) to upload
    4. Select the file format to upload to the cloud. Then tap OK.
    5. Once you save the file format, you have a choice to e-mail the file as a attachment, or save a copy. By pressing cancel, it still can be uploaded to the cloud.
Uploading PS Touch files to the cloud.
    1. Tap the settings button in the top right corner.  Then tap My Account.
    2. Tap Sign in. Sign in with your Adobe ID. To obtain an Adobe ID, go to : https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html. Once you are signed in, the total storage available in your Creative Cloud is displayed.
Sync your Photoshop Touch files to the Creative Cloud.
    1. Tap the Creative Cloud icon. Make sure the Sync files toggle is switched to the on position.
    2. When Creative Cloud sync is turned on, you can see your files being synced to your Creative Cloud account.
Open a Photoshop Touch file in Photoshop
    1. On your desktop computer, launch a browser and navigate to the Creative Cloud website. When you are signed in, navigate to your Photoshop Touch file. Click to select the file.
    2. Tap the download button in the top right corner.
    3. When the download dialog button pops up, select PSD. Once the file has been downloaded, you can open in Photoshop (CS5, CS5.1, CS6) on your desktop.
    4. When the file is opened in Photoshop, it displays its layers (Note: that if the file is dragged and dropped, and NOT downloaded, it will not display the layers).

Lightroom 5.3 should be able to open D600 RAW photos.
The problem is most likely that you used some version of Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer. This interferes with Lightroom's ability to read the files. If the files are still on your camera card, use Lightroom to directly access them from the camera card. If they are not on your camera card, you can still fix the files, see http://forums.adobe.com/message/6181267#6181267

  • Send to Illustrator/Photoshop is not working

I've got the latest versions of the CC2014 apps installed. I'm signed in and CC App is running on my Mac taskbar, and I checked in Illustrator and Photoshop and it shows me signed in to my account. I'm signed in to my CC account in Draw and Line on my iPad, bit when I tap "Send to Illustrator" or "Send to Photoshop", I get the progress icon, then a message saying "Sent", but it never shows up on the desktop app. I've tried it with the apps running and closed. I've removed previous versions (CS6 and CC), but no luck. I've tried making sure both iPad and MacBook Pro are on the same WiFi network. No luck so far. Any ideas?

    Hi Peter,
The Send to Illustrator/Photoshop operation sends the file to all of the machines linked to the same account you sent the file from in the Mobile apps. The first time after you restart the Creative Cloud app, the Send to... operation can take longer to receive these notifications to launch the desktop app and open the file, specially with older releases of the Creative Cloud app. Can you confirm your version for the Creative Cloud app? The latest version is 1.8.0.447. You can find this information in:
    Settings\Preferences\General Tab\Account
Also, updated versions for Adobe Illustrator is 18.1.0 and Adobe Photoshop is 20140926.r.236
    Hope this helps,
    Jose

  • Can't print from CS4 (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)

    Here is the issue...
When I try to print from any of the CS4 programs (illustrator, photoshop, or acrobat) most times I get the
spinning color wheel and eventually the application quits.  Sometimes I do get to the print dialog box but that's as far as
I get.  The color wheel will start spinnng again.
Both CS4 and CS2 are installed on my computer.  It is a Mac mini.
However, when I log on under a different profile (administrator) it prints fine.
I had an issue with CS2 and had to create a new profile.  Then I got CS4, still using the newly created profile.
    Thoughts?

We followed your instructions, deleting the Settings folder and then
    removing
the main printer (Konika Minolta Bizhb 450 (Fiery X3eTY)).  We then
    put the
    printer's IP address back in.
After this, we test printed a file in Illustrator to a Dell (which we
    did not
    uninstall).  It printed without issue.
After reinstalling a driver from Minolta's site (Fiery X3eTY 35C-KM
    PS v2.0
eu), all of the presets (including the user login information) were
    back.  We
then attempted to print from Illustrator.  The print dialog box
    popped up
without any problems.  When we selected "Printer," the color wheel began
spinning.  After a few minutes, the Force Quit option said that
    Illustrator
    was not responding.
This is what we are running on specifically:
    Mac mini
    Mac OS X 10.4.11
Process 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo
    Memory 1.25 GB 667 Mz DDR2 SDRAM
The memory info reads as follows
Memory Slot         Size    Type            Speed       Status
    Bank 0/DIMM0        1 GB    DDR2 SDRAM      667 MHz     OK
    Bank 1/DIMM1        256 MB  DDR2 SDRAM      667 MHZ     OK

  • Not able to edit assets in Illustrator/Photoshop and save over existing assets in Edge animation

Not able to edit assets in Illustrator/Photoshop and save over existing assets in Edge animation to update image changes. Has Adobe changed this capability with new releases? Does this mean to update an asset on the Edge animation timeline, you have to copy and paste all the animations of that old asset over to the new imported asset?

    Hi, CamShazam-
You should be able to save over existing assets in the images/ folder, then close and reopen the file.  The other option is to save your assets and then use the swap image option in the properties panel.  Is this what you're talking about?  Thanks,
    -Elaine

  • How to enable touch screen stylus in photoshop: Dell Inspiron 13: windows 8?

How to enable touch screen stylus in photoshop: Dell Inspiron 13: windows 8?

You don't need to enable anything. For it to work you need a touch screen display and a pressure sensitive pen. Not a capacitive pen like those used on a iPad.
A capacitive pen will work with the interface but not the brush tool.
