Is a high definition DVD burner available for Mac's?

I have a HD camcorder (Canon XHA1) and am using Final Cut express HD. I have been very disappointed in the results I have obtained when burning my Final Cut projects to a standard DVD.(After finishing my FCE project, I use IDVD to produce a disc image, then burn to a standard 4.7 GB Sony or Verbatim DVD-R) Many of my clients now have blu ray players and high def TV's and want their videos in high definition. Is a high definition burner available for a mac pro so that I can burn high definition discs?

Thanks Tom for the link. However, I noticed when reading through the info about this blu-ray drive that it made no mention of being compatible with Final Cut Express HD or IDVD which is what I am currently using. I had considered upgrading to Final Cut Studio but it sounds like this drive is only compatible when used with Adobe Premiere Pro and Encore CS4. I am no techie, so pardon my ignorance about all this. Is Toast a "replacement" for IDVD? Could I use FCExpress (or FC studio if I upgrade) then burn the DVD using toast? Does Toast have menu templates like IDVD?
If anyone has any experience using this blu-ray drive on their Mac with Final Cut and IDVD or Toast I would appreciate some input on what the exact workflow is and if the whole process has been a positive experience.
Thanks so much for your help!

  • HT1645 Hello, does anyone know of good DVD burning software for Mac?  I've got two 8 min 25 sec mov files to put on a DVD with title and a menu for the two.  I've tried it with iDVD five times, each time waiting over an hour and then getting an error mess

I have a short film I produced and I need to burn off copies however I am having no end of trouble with finding a simple DVD burning programme.
I tried a few but no luck.  I am trying with mov files and I can't see where the cog is happening.  If anyone has any good and relatively inexpensive solutions, please let me know!
    Thanks so much!
    Cheers

    Welcome to the forums.
If you'd like to continue trying with iDVD, one of Apple's resources shows HT 1645 to be an encoding error (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1645), so I would suggest starting a new iDVD project and set the iDVD Preferences to make sure they match to your project.  In particular, you should be using the Pro encoding setting or Best Performance for projects with a total length under an hour (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5417).
Roxio Toast is an excellent burning tool and part of my work flow after I've used iDVD to create a disk image.  Toast will not have the nice iDVD menus, but can do many other tasks besides DVD creation.  (Disk images can help in the DVD creation process -- here's one of many discussions:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/15469221#15469221)

  • Is there an External Superdrive dvd burner available for an iBook G4?

I'd like to make DVDs of a presentation, but my iBook doesn't have a SuperDrive.
Should I use the iMovie or iDVD application to create the presentation?
Do peripheral external DVD burners or SuperDrives exist?
Or is there another way of making DVD copies...(Like ordering iBook picture albums from iPhoto?)
    Thanks!!

You can simply google for that; I'm sure there'll be plenty - just make sure it specifically states that it is compatible with Mac and the OS version you are running. I've had a LaCie for a number of years; it is self powered with FW port (they no longer make this one unfortunately); here is their non-Bluray option they have now:

(Personally, I prefer self powered instead of bus powered). They also sell Bluray burners.

  • Best DVD burner software for mac

I have made some simple movies I want to burn to DVD with menu options.  What is the best (at a reasonable cost) burner softwar to puchase. Have done some research and read the reviews but still confussed.

Handbrake to copy to avi or mp4(I use it for watching my DVD's on the go, so my battery lasts for a longer time)
I think MP4 is better quallity.
To copy a DVD: simply use Toast (maybe withe popcorn, but I don't use it).

  • HD DVD or High Definition DVD

I would like to no what is the deferince betwin HD DVD and HD-DVD ?
Apple Denmark technical support have told my that HD DVD stands for High Definition DVD or not the medie HD DVD.
    Almfeldt

Actually HD DVD stands for "High Density DVD." It refers to the increased capacity of the HD DVD.
This is kind of amusing thread on that issue and I think Mr. Kelly Freebairn and myself both agree we should just have toematetoe soup

On the HD DVD you can have a project in "HD DVD format" which supports video up to 1080x1920 in size.

  • DVD burner upgrade for pre 09 MAC Pro?

We have a MAC Pro that we bought in 09. We are a communications/marketing company and I burn a lot of DVD's for commercials and such. The problem is, it takes at least 90 min to burn one full DVD. Can someone recommend a faster burner that we can use? Tech specs say the burner is 18x write. We use DVD -R
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP506   <-- tech specs.
I don't know what version of the OS it is. I can find out if it helps.
    I appreciate any help!

If that is your tech specs, you Mac uses a SATA DVD burner.
Best Mac OS X support would be one that shipped in a Mac Pro.
Good tech support would come from a Mac-centric company like OWC. their offerings are here:

"Lightscribe" is a feature for machine-drawing on the label-side of special discs to create a human-readable label. I see it as needless complexity, and a distraction from the main functions required.

  • What is the latest update available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 that will allow me to get the latest update for iTunes.  I really need to update my iPhone and CAN'T!!  GRRRR!!!

What is the latest update available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 that will allow me to get the latest update for iTunes.  I really need to update my iPhone and CAN'T!!  GRRRR!!!

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • What updates are available for Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)?

What updates are available for Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L30)?

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard system requirements
    Purchased Installer disc here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
Installing and updating OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to OS X 10.6.8 gives your Mac access to the Mac App Store where you can decide which version of OS X to upgrade to, again, if you desire.
    OS X Lion system requirements
    Purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended)
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
To install OS X  10.8 Mountain Lion or OS X 10.10 Yosemite.you need one of these Macs:
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space.
Your year and model Mac can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM, max..
I strongly suggest you install the max. RAM your Mac can take.
Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC is the only source for the  6 GB RAM kit.
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
    http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest versions of OS X by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password and using the appropriate download codes need
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing your desired versions of OS X  from the Mac App Store.

  • Is ACR 7.1 available for Mac OS 10

    I have ACR 6.4.1

"ACR" being what, exactly? If you mean Adobe Camera Raw, 6.7 seems to be the most recent version available for Mac unless a later version is bundled with CS6, though this is a question best directed to Adobe for confirmation.
    Regards.

We (my company) just upgraded to CS5, and I noticed it came with Pro 9. Is Acrobat X Pro available for Mac? I tried to download a Trial version and it directs me to a Windows download. I can not  find a Mac download.
    Any Ideas?

It is available for Mac yes but at this point, it hasn't been included in the suite. Normally the new Acrobat is included with a .5 release of the suite.
Unfortunately, they don't have trials for Mac either.

IS Photoshop available for Mac?  I am told I must have it to submit a book to Amazon's Create Space. Is Photoshop included in Office?

Photoshop is by Adobe, and is quite expensive.
You open and work with Photoshop files with Photoshop Elements, which is under $100.
    Also made by Adobe.
Do you're research on both over at the Adobe site.
