Is a license required for Oracle 11g installed on private developer box?

Hello,
I wish to install Oracle 11g on my personal computer to test some software that hits a database. Will I be able to install/run 11g on my machine for this use, or will it (eventually) prompt me for a license key? If I need a license, is there a free developer license available? I can't seem to find any info on this.
How is the licensing structured around the 11g "XE" BETA (express edition)? Is there a licensing difference between XE and non-XE?
And finally, is there a good summary of what features are missing from the XE edition? I tried installing 10g XE, and for example, the "DEFAULT TABLESPACE xxx" SQL command was not recognized. I need this 'feature' (as well as others). I'm assuming I'm going to need to install the full 11g release, but I hope there is no license required.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

In general, no, you don't need a separate client license. The database is generally licensed to support a number of named users and/or all the users that a certain hardware configuration can support. Assuming the person using the Oracle client is connecting to a properly licensed database (and that they are one of the named users if that is the licensing regime), you shouldn't need a separate license.
There may be slightly different rules if we're talking about developers connecting to the database because of the "Oracle Programmer" set of licenses that appears on pricing sheets that I've never fully understood.

Hi,
I have 64 bit linux and Oracle 11g installed but one of my applications is using 32-bit libraries.
So i am thinking of copying the lib32 folder in ORACLE_HOME and paste the path in LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Will it work or not????
If YES, i need the lib32 folder for Oracle 11g R2 on Linux 32 bit. Can someone please tell me from where can i download it?

We required this tool for development purpose like "application connectivity with Oracle DB". Please let us know is this freeware or any license required for using this tool, If required what is the cost of that license.

A few things:
1) The latest version is 11.2.0.1.2. This will work with database versions back to 9.2. You do not have to select a ODT or ODP.NET version that matches your database version.
2) All of the .NET products are free and can be used by you in your application.
3) You automatically get technical support for the .NET products if you have support for Oracle Database.

WEBI CPU License Required for BOE Premium Install

We are being told that our BOE Premium Install requires a WEB Intelligence CPU license for View on Demand documents in addition to our BOE Premium CPU license. This is news to us. We have been told for 5 years that our BOE Premium CPU license was inclusive of WEB Intelligence Document View on Demand consumption. Has anyone else ran into this issue? Is this a recent change in licensing by SAP?

Yes, the premium license covers Crystal - you don't have to do anything special to "turn it on".
In order to create Crystal Reports for use in BOE, you must purchase a Crystal Reports license for each person who will be designing reports. There is no web interface for designing reports in Crystal, it is a desktop application.
Reports written in Crystal can be published to BOE (Crystal XI will publish to r2 and 3.x, Crystal 2008 will only publish to 3.x from within the software, but there are ways around that) or run from either a desktop or web application - the application has to have a Crystal Viewer component. There are several viewer apps available for viewing reports outside of BOE, or you can write your own (a version Crystal comes with Visual Studio.)

How many large install licenses required for a 5.x deployment?

I have been trying to determine the correct license requirement for a 5.x install. There will be 1 primary server and six secondary servers. It is very clear that I need the base license for each ACS instance, but the documentation notes that for greater than 500 devices (IPs) that a large install license is needed for each ACS deployment. Does this mean that each ACS appliance instance will require a unique Large Install license or I only need one license (presumably installed on primary) and that will cover the IP requirements for all my secondaries?

On a single license is required for a deployment.
The large install license is installed on the primary and gets replicated to all the secondaries in the deployment that are connected to that primary

Searching for a Reporting Tool for Oracle 11g

Hello,
I have created several OLAP-Cubes with the Analytic Workspace 11.1.0.7.0B on the Oracle Database 11g. Now I need a Tool for Creating some Reporting. I have Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-In Version 10.1.2.3 for Microsoft Excel. I have installed it and I have a Connection to the Database. But on the Query-Assistent, I can't see my Measures and Dimensions. I guess it is because of the Version.
My Questions are:
- Is there any BI Spreadsheet in Version 11?
- Is there any other Reporting-Possibility with another Tool for Oracle 11g? I couldn't find anything yet.
I am very happy, if there is anyone who can answer my questions.

I have no knowledge of BI publisher but if you install OBIEE then you will have option to install BI publisher also. You can download OBIEE from here.

I am using APEX 3.2.1 on Oracle 11.g (under windows XP)
I want to test PDF printing (in advanced turorial) with standard config ( APACHE FOP no Oracle BI publisher).

My question : is the last Version (10.1.3.5.0 : Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (OC4J) (build #090727, 91 MB) - J2EE 1.4 compatible with EJB 3.0 / JPA 1.0 support ) also VALID for Oracle 11g ?

This appears to be different behaviour than previous versions (>= version 3.3) and not what is described in the documentation.

There was a regression introduced in 3.5.1 where the Main-class attribute of the Coherence.jar was changed to a different main class leading to this effect.
The workaround is to specify the main class as part of the command line.
Assuming your current directory is the coherence home directory:
Start a cache server:
java -cp lib/coherence.jar com.tangosol.net.DefaultCacheServer Start the command line:
java -cp lib/coherence.jar com.tangosol.coherence.component.application.Console And the above is basically what the coherence.sh/.cmd and cache-server.sh/.cmd scripts do.

Is license required for Sql Loader?

I find that Sql Loader could save much time for me in bulk inserting.
But I'm not sure whether license is required for using it in business software developing.
Or is there any API that can provide similar functionality of Sql Loader?

The sqlldr utility, expdp and impdp, and sqlplus come with the rdbms license. Earlier client software had the option of installing sqlldr, exp, and imp onto the client machine for use against a remote database. Being that expdp and impdp only run on the database server now these two utilities are probably not included but sqlldr may still be available as part of the client.

DB connection issue for Oracle 11g with jdk1.3

Hi Experts,
I have jdk1.3 installed. I need to connect to Oracle 11g, but there is no driver class for Oracle 11g with jdk1.3. I have Classes12.jar for Oracle 9i with jdk1.3. When I try to connect to Oracle 11g with jdk1.3 using Classes12.jar, I get the below error

"connection refused" is quite a clear error message;
- either you configure a wrong host name or port number
- the database isn't even running
- a firewall is blocking you
In any case no connection can be made to the database, which is hardly a programming or driver problem. You'll have to figure out for whatever external reason you cannot create a connection to the database. Good luck.
