Is a locally hosted data catalog possible?

We have a pretty robust locally hosted SharePoint solution. We are currently working on an upgrade to SharePoint 2013 with integrated 2012 SQL Server Reporting Services with Powerview/Powerpivot.  This is to create a local instance similar
to the Power BI option in the cloud.  My question is specific to Power Query in this scenario.  In the above scenario, can the Corporate Data Catalog used in Power Query be hosted locally, perhaps in the Business Data Catalog SharePoint
has?

Thanks for your reply Gil.
I have evaluated Power BI and the Data Catalog, both public and corporate. Great tools that we pretty much will replicate with the Excel Power stack and integrated SSSRS/SharePoint with the required service applications configured and turned on.  I
work at a college and so much of our data is subject to federal/state laws like FERPA and institutional security policies revolving around PII.  Even aggregating the data to the level of losing PII does not mitigate some of the legal and policy related
roadblocks of posting data in the cloud.  So, we are looking at have a Power BI like solution on-prem.  I just wanted to leverage the corporate section of the Power Query's data catalog by having it point to an on-prem source.

  • Possible reasons for BCP import failure? [Unable to open BCP host data-file]

    Hi,
I have inherited a process where a bunch of tables are being prepared locally with python and puched to a database. It fails and I don't know why, though my first thought is access rights. I have admin access to the database (and server?) using SQL server
authorisation. Here is an example BCP command being churned out by the python script:
    bcp "[TEST].[dbo].[ISP_2014_flat]" in "flat_files/ISP_2014_201504011504.csv" -U admin -P XXX! -c -t ^ -S "xxx20039999\DZUHE00999,2311"
    SQLState = S1000, NativeError = 0 Error = [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Unable to open BCP host data-file
What can I check that might be responsible for this problem?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Below are points that you can consider:
I don't think you need double quotes (") around the table and filename.
If the file is on shared folder, provide the UNC path like
\\server\folder\file.csv and even if it is in local try providing full path
Make sure the file is not opened by someone (if it exists already)
If it works from SSMS and doesn't work if run via SQL Agent then Agent account must have access to the file
You can see few examples given in BCP Utility and also you may give try using BULK INSERT too
    bcp Utility
    BULK INSERT (Transact-SQL)

  • Hosting Product Catalog and Sales Pricing on Portal

    Hi,
    1. We need to create the catalog in Portal and update the sales price from the back end ERP ECC 5.00 system.
Is it possible to create the same directly in Portal and thereafter update the sales price?
    2. I need to capture the data as an input from Portal and want to send the same to lotus notes as an email. Does EP support sending of mail to Lotus notes.

    Thanks Michael,
I agree that the Portal should not be used but in this case if the customer does not want to use SAP CRM for creation of shopping cart / Hosting of catalog, any suggestion you would recommend to make this scenario feasible and possible?
    Thanks for your quick response.

Forta I 8/Edition files work with CF SERVER 9?

I have the same problem, on my primary computer (Windows XP Pro , but the cause may be different from what 123polis123 had.
It seems that the installer installed the Enterprise Multiserver configuration instead of the built in server.
Note that I installed sucessfully on my laptop (Windows XP Home), using the same install parameters.
I chose the "Server configuration" which has a self contained server tunning a single instance with an embedded JEE server.  After running though all the installation screens, before proceeding with the actual installation, the installer reported the following:
    Installation Type:
      Server configuration
    Licensing:
      Developer Edition
    Installation Directories:
      Product: C:\ColdFusion9
      Web root: C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot

The installation proceeded without a hitch, except at the end when the browser is supposed to come up with the admin configuration page it can't find the server.  Port 8500 is open. I fiddled around awhile to see what the problem was.  I installed on the other computer which went fine - the only difference is that the .NET version is 1.1.4322.   I then re-installed, without uninstalling, on the problem computer.  When the installer got to the screen where I select the server configuration, Enterprise Multiserver configuration was selected and it was not possible to select onything else.   I uninstalled and re-installed.  Same thing happened.
The processes running included: k2admin.exe, k2index.exe, k2server.exe and CFDotNetsvc.exe.   The processes on the sucessful install included cfp.exe and cfupdate.exe.
Note that I had installed Eclipse and the CFEclipse plugin before installing CF9.

  • Simulate GSS in local host file

    Hi,
I would like to test out the GSS without publishing it on the internet DNS.
So the only way I think is to update the local host file (Win XP). What would be an equivalent entry in local host file for the below in Internet DNS
    abc.com IN NS gss.abc.com
    gss.abc.com IN A 22.11.22.11
Mapping a domain/hostname to IP is straight foward, but how can an NS record be added.
    Thanks.

Thanks. But I would like to avoid DNS effort and just manage with the local host file. So I would like to know whether it is possible to enter NS record in the local host file.
If I were to ask for hostname abc.com, the process should be
    1. Check local host file for abc.com
    2. abc.com is pointed to NS record in local host file.
    3. The Name Server has a IP mapping in the local host file.
All of the above without any DNS setup. A local host file at the moment is like
    abc.com 22.11.22.11
which I want to change to
    abc.com IN NS gss1.abc.com
    gss1.abc.com 22.11.22.10 (GSS IP)
How can I acheive 'abc.com IN NS gss1.abc.com' in local host file.

  • Quicktime Pro wants to open OS 9 in my Local Host???

I created a slide show that runs perfectly on my desktop. However, it will not play now that I loaded it on to my website. Furthermore, I notice that when I open the .mov quicktime file from my local host file in dreamweaver MX, my mac want to open up OS 9???? I imagine this may be the reason that I can't open the file from the web. Please help.

That must be a monster of a file!
Three times the data rate of a DVD and a size that wouldn't fit on my current monitor.
I don't see a video codec mentioned but I suspect maybe your used the Animation codec.
How many MB's is the file? How did you get it uploaded to your server?
Without knowing what video codec was used I'm just guessing. The only reason OS 9 would get involved is if you somehow used a very old (OS 9 only) video codec.

  • Local hosted exchange (2013) to Full Online Office 365 for School District : Pointers for migration appreciated!

    Good afternoon all,
The school district I manage is currently using locally hosted exchange server(s) for mail.  (Server 2012 box that has Exchange 2013, and an older Server 2008 box that has Exchange 2010)
We are wanting to make the migration to full online Office 365.  We're talking about 450-500 mailboxes maximum.
In order to do this as seamlessly as possible, I need some help.
Any of you pros that have any gotchas/recommendations/best practices or walk-thrus for this i'm all ears.
Thanks so much, i really appreciate any help that can be given on this.

Vasil, thank you very much for this...it really helps a lot. One question for you, and i hope i'm understanding this correctly. In our school district, we have 2000+ students, and 350~ faculty. We will still be locally managing our users (who will
be tied to email addresses that will then be hosted in office 365) through local active directory. Will this be a problem? The only reason I ask this is because of reading this: Do you want to manage user accounts in your on-premises organization? No (listed
for cutover) We will keep our user account management (if that's what this is talking about) local on the DCs that are on our domain through ADUC. Is this what it's talking about, or is it talking about managing their email addresses? Maybe i'm making this
more difficult than it is... thanks for all the help!

  • WRT160n local hosts in DNS

I'm wondering if it's possible to have local hosts added to the DNS.  As in, when a host connects and gets an IP assigned using DHCP, it advertises its hostname to the router.  It would be nice if that same hostname resolved to an IP, since the router is a DNS server.
For example, if I connect to computers named "sleepy" and "dopey" to the router, it would be nice if I could visit http://sleepy from dopey.
For a while, I had DD-WRT installed, and it had this feature (as have a number of other routers I've used), but it looks like the factory firmware doesn't support it.  Am I missing something?
(I removed DD-WRT because, while it had some nice features, it crashed fairly often on large Wireless-N transfers.)

The Router offers a Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) feature. DDNS lets you assign a fixed host and domain name to a dynamic Internet IP address. It is useful when you are hosting your own website, FTP server, or other server behind the Router.

  • Wordpress on local host?

I have a simple (only 2 posts and no pages) test WP blog installed on a remote web host. I'm trying to work on a copy of it off-line on my localhost. I started by adding a new wordpress to my local host, then copied the wp-include folder from remote host to the new localhost wordpress. Export/Import databse. Start and install WP and follow steps to create config.php file.
All works as should. Blog appears on localhost with the 2 posts and the theme appearance and etc just as it does on remote host.
Problem - When, in the WP dashboard Posts section,  I click on "view" post I get page not found error 404. I have been advised that I need to go to Settings>Permalinks and then click save. As soon as I select Settings>Permalinks a .htaccess file is added to the WP on localhost, the dashboard display becomes not correct and if I click save I get server error 500 message. From that point on I cannot access the blog on localhost at all. If I delete the .htaccess file I get back to where everything works except as described at the top of this post.
So I believe I need to configure the .htaccess file and/or possibly some other configuration settings I need to change. I just can't figure out what I need to do to get this working correctly. A link to the .htaccess files is below. One file from original remote host the other created by WP when I go to Settings>Permalinks
    http://www.openrangeimaging.com/Test/htacess.jpg
someone suggested to me that I just work on my localhost without the .htaccess file but that doesn't seem right to me and I want to get this sorted out and working 100% correctly.
I know this is not realy a DW question. I have posted on the WP forum but not received any replies. I have gotten al lot of gret help and advice here so I am posting this in hopes someone can help me with this. Any advice on how I might get this resolved will be very much appreciated

    Disable permalinks when working locally.

I have also read that patching SMC has caused problems for some people so I don't really want to try that until I get some feedback.

    Hi Mike,
Tried your suggestion to rename the .dat and let SMC recreate it but I can't get the SMC database service to launch. So it looks like I am having trouble with the database. Any suggestions?
To back up, you nailed it with the loss of power - we lost both power supplies on a Sunday night with no warning and nothing in /var/adm/messages (since we send them to a loghost.) It was determined that chips within each power supply in the T5140 failed. So we replaced both power supplies and fired the server up. That is when we started getting the trap errors and only those two errors on clsol8.
I did check http://sun.com/msg/SMF-8000-KS but am not sure how that helps.
    What I tried:
    On clsol8 as root:
    # cd /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin
    # ls
    {db-memconfig.sh   es-details        es-imagetool      es-setup
    db-start          es-device         es-inst           es-start

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Cannot ping local traffic and local hosts cannot get out

I have, what I believe to be, a simple issue - I must be missing something.
Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA's. VPN is up, and remote hosts can ping the inside int of ASA (10.51.253.209).
There is a PC (10.51.253.210) plugged into e0/1.
I know the PC is configured correctly with Windows firewall tuned off.
The PC cannot get to the ouside world, and the ASA cannot ping 10.51.253.210.
I have seen this before, and I deleted VLAN 1, recreated it, and I could ping the local host without issue.
Basically, the VPN is up and running but PC 10.51.253.210 cannot get out.
Any ideas? Sanitized Config is below. Thanks !

    Hi Martin,
Which way you are trying. Sending traffic via site to site is not working or traffic which you generate to outside world is not working?
But you say ASA connected interface to PC itself is not pinging that is strange. But try setting up the specific rules for the outgoing connection and check. Instead of not having any ACL.
If it is outside world the you may need to check on the NAT rules which is not correct.
If it is site to site then you may need to check few other things.
Please do rate for the helpful posts.
