Is a loose headphone jack normal?

I just got a nano 3G for my birthday, but the headphone jack seems loose. The headphones seem to wiggle in the jack and easily fall out. If I'm running, it sometimes stops mid-song because of the jiggle. Is this a result of the design (jack being on a curved surface), or should I exchange it for a new one? It does this with all the headphones I've tried, and I want to know if anyone else has encountered this issue or if mine is defective......

I took the nano back to the store tonight, and the counter tech guy couldn't click it in properly either. It just wiggled in the jack, and he claimed that he'd never seen this problem before. They exchanged it for an identical new one, and now Katie is a happy girl! Thanks!

  • Headphone jack: normal headphones dont fit

I tried to plug headphones in to my computer the other day, but ran into a problem: the headphone jack on the computer is too small for standard headphines! I dont understand this at all... I thought there was only one size of headphone jack. I tried two pair of headphones, both normal ones that fit into Iphones and everything else I have ever used them on. Are there special headphones for HP? When I googled this problem, I couldnt find anything.

    Hi @Cath676 .
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 11 x360 PC and issues with the Headphone or earbud not fitting. Your notebook supports a device cable that has a 4-conductor
    connector that supports audio-out.
Your manual  page 12 shows the head-phone jack located in the middle of your volume control and usb port on the left side of the Notebook.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Nokia X6 loose headphone jack

I just bought a Nokia X6 the other day off dell, and so far im liking the phone. My only concern is that the headphone jack seems to be a little loose, as none of my headphones ive tried stay put very well. The slightest tug seems to pull the headphones out and are especially annoying when im listening to music. I was wondering if this is a common defect or not, and if there is anyway to fix it?

I too suffer from the same issue....
i have had the phone replaced.... 2 times in 2 weeks and still its the same...
i get the usual support questions from my mobile provider, one guy sent me new headphones which means he clearly didnt understand.
    the issue...
the 'block' on top of the phone that houses the charger and 3.5mm H/phone jack is extremely loose when they're connected... its not the jack itself, its the 'block' thats moving.
if you gently squeeze the phone with your thumb and index finger covering the ear piece the 'block' barely moves.
leads me to the conclusion that 1 of 2 things is happening.. either the design is flawed or the manufacturing of the phone was rushed or poorly quality checked.
nokia i leave this with you to investigate.
i'm heading to the shop now to get my 3rd one.

  • Loose headphone jack?

My MacBook Pro (Nov 2006)'s headphone jack works, but it is hardly usable: it only seems to notice the headphones when the connector is in at particular angles. Of course, that also means that the slightest disturbance -- exceedingly easy to create when you have the computer on your lap -- will cause them to become unseated, and I'll have to wiggle it around a bit to find the right spot again. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Hi there,
If the earphone jack has a wiggle and is loose where sound becomes intermittent, it can only mean a bad solder. Since the jack is soldered directly to the motherboard and if you still have a warranty, then it would be wise to send the laptop in for a repair - doing such a repair yourself may indeed invalidate the warranty on the machine.
Regarding the hdd and information stored on your laptop. You should make a backup of all information, remove the personal information from the HDD before sending in the laptop (if this is the course of action you decide to take). Lenovo will not accept a different configuration from that which was originally included in the machine, therefore, it is ill-advised to send a laptop in for repair with different components (aftermarket installations) - again, Lenovo reserves the right to refuse repair service based on this specific point.
If I may offer a suggestion. I would strongly suggest you get yourself a comparable-size 2.5" HDD and an external USB enclosure solely for the purpose of making/storing backups instead of playing around with CD/DVD media (much of these are unreliable for long-term storage). External USB enclosures (which are relatively inexpensive these days) are very portable, thus you may even take those along with you in your travels without worry of added weight - you'll only be gratified for the convenience of extra storage at a very reasonable price. Vantec and Ultra make very good laptop HDD enclosures, both available at any good box store or online (perhaps less expensive).
    Hope this helps

  • Headphone Jack Loose

I have had three macbook pros 13'. My most recent one has a sort of loose headphone jack. I was wondering if its normal? It take minimal pressure for it to engage inside the headphone socket. And comes our without much effort.
While in the other notebooks I owned, they were really tightly secured. And it would take a considerable amount of pull/push to en/disengage the headphones. as compared to my current laptop.
Just wanted to know how your headphones jacks are.

Owning a MBPro 13" myself: It just requires the amount of force to plug/unplug the headphone like on my iPods/iPhone. - feels just o.k.

  • Loose headphone soc

I've had to return my Zen Micro twice because of a loose headphone jack. Has anyone else experienced this problem? please reply here:

I had my Zen Micro for 6 days and on the 2nd day, I started experiencing the headphone problem. I just had it on my desk for the first few days and the the wire was never tugged on and i never handled it roughly.
It's just too annoying to have the sound cut out whenever the headphone wire moves just the slightest bit. I'm going to return it because it seems that there are too many problems with the headphone jack and if I exchange it for another one, I'm sure that I will experience the same problem some time down the road whether it be day or 6 months from now. I really love the Micro but it's just this one irritating thing that keeps me from holding on to it. I'll buy another one once (if) Creative fixes this problem.
I'm pleading to Creative to acknowledge that there is a headphone problem and fix it. Just look at the number of posts in this and other forums! We're not a bunch of Ipod supporters that want to see the Zen Micro fail but we're legitimate customers that want to see Creative succeed!

  • Headphone jack wont work normally

There is something wrong with my headphone jack. the sound skips in and out in even increments when im using headphones but through the normal speakers sound is fine. theres nothing wrong with my headphones. does anybody know what is wrong with it?

It may be dirty ...try blowing into the jack or better yet use a form of compressed air for electronic equipment. You could also try wetting the tip of your headphone jack with WD-40 (or a similar electronic contact cleaner) then wiggling that around to see if things clear up.

  • Loose Connection Headphone Jack MacBook

I was having difficulty with 3 pairs of headphones that I own. Upon insertion into the MacBook aluminum headphone jack, I would only get a very loose connection. A slight wiggle would disconnect headphone sound and revert to internal speakers.
I went to the Apple store today in Toronto, and tested a few of their units on display. Same thing I even tested using the headphones sold at the store (BOSE noise canceling - $249.00). Same problem. Just pulling out ever so slightly, ruined the connection...
Anyone else had this problem?? I'm totally surprised there's not more about this out there...

I reported the problem within two weeks of receiving the first macbook and then within a week of receiving the second - apple has a period of "remorse" whereby if you decide you are not happy with your purchase you can return it less a restocking fee - in my case, since it was a clear failing of the machine, they waived the restocking fee and gave me a full refund
I should add that I bought mine from the online apple store - the support and sales staff were very helpful - the video that I put online made it crystal clear what the problem was
before deciding whether to take a third macbook or the full refund I asked them to check with the technical department whether this was a known issue (it wasn't) and I also made a trip to a local reseller to see if I'd just had bad luck or it was a widespread problem (all the unibody macbooks and macbook pros exhibited the same behaviour)
I had been waiting to upgrade to a smaller form macbook that I had long hoped for. The release of the unibody macbook seemed initially to be the answer to these hopes - albeit with no firewire and a poorer quality screen than I expected. I decided I could live with these shortcomings but the macbook as it stands is unusable for me due to this headphone socket issue. Rather than wait for a fix to this unrecognised issue I decided to buy a previous revision macbook pro. Better a last revision mac product than a first revision - pity because otherwise the new macbook was great.

  • Headphone jack parts loose/broken

Over the past few weeks I've noticed that the inside part of my iMac's headphone jack has started to become loose, causing my headphones to not be able to be plugged up correctly without having to put a large amount of pressure on it over and over again, which may just be making the problem worse in the long run. I decided to ask here before taking it in for help so anything will be appreciated.

what did your local genius bar say when you telephoned them?

  • Headphone jack very loose

I received an iPod nano 3G for Christmas this year and the first thing I noticed about the little guy is that the headphone jack was so loose that the headphones would fall out anytime I moved the iPod. I returned the iPod and exchanged it for another and this new one is a little better but not a really tight fit. I recently tried a different pair of headphones because the Apple-included headphones don't really stay in my ears and the new headphones now have the same problem with my new iPod. So right now I'm on my second iPod and I can't understand why the headphone jack is so loose. Has anyone else had this problem?

Nevermind the headphone jack being loose. Apparently I hadn't pushed the headphone plug far enough into the jack to fully seat it. I hate it when I realize I've been a dork. Chalk this one up to being an iPod noob.

  • Headphone Jack Appears to Be Loose

It appears that my headphone jack is loose and this is causing me to hear static through my headphones whenever I play music. Should I call Apple and get this fixed? Am I still under warranty? I bought my iPod on 12/29/06. I actually still have the receipt to prove it. What should I do?

your warranty is good for a year, so you are fine. I would call Apple.

  • Gen7 nano headphone jack is loose, moving headphone plug stops music

When I move the headphone plug that is fully seated in the headphone jack on the nano it will stop playing the music like I pulled out the headphone plug. I have tried three  different apple headphones and can replicate the issue by moving the plug.  Using the same headphones in an older iPod will work fine when moving the plug.  I believe there is an issue inside the nano and would like to be able to send this in, would this be possible?

Yes. But before you do get a flashlight and see if there is dirt/debris/obstruction in the jack and clear it if necessary.

  • Headphone jack makes the wire loose, looses one ear's so

This is actually my second micro, but the headphone jack tends to push the prong out a little any time it turns a little. This causes the sound in one ear to cut out. It's easy enough to push back in, but I'm worried that this is going to get worse... after the warrantee runs out. Is this a common issue, or is this one defecti've?

i have the exact same problem- read my post on ''had it with creative''
