Is a MAC code needed?
Hi,
I have signed up to switch from TalkTalk to BT with the instalation date being the 5th May and as yet have not been asked for a MAC code. Does this mean that a MAC code isn't needed or do BT leave it to the last possible moment to ask to to get one?

Hi,
A gentleman from BT called to my home yesterday and gave me info on BT Infinity and said he could do all the work for me to change back to BT from SKy (I am within the 31days cancellation period) although I said I would like to send the letter to sky recorded delivery, which i did.
My 31 days notice would be up until the 24th March and so I am very eager to make sure eveything is in order but unfortunately I wasn't given a copy of the paperwork with references etc.
Do I need to contact Sky for a MAC code or will they email me it automatically when they receieve the letter asking for my phone and broadband service to be cancelled?

Hi there,
If I were you, I would ring Sky and ask for your MAC code. They should be able to give it to you there and then, over the phone. This was the case when I migrated in from my previous ISP (Be).

I looked in console and its saying that it may be because of Sophos Anti-Virus, i deleted and uninstalled all traces of Sophos but looked in console and this is some of the lines coming up:

I am having the same problem (switching my broadband from o2 to BT and being issued an invalid mac code) and i am getting nowhere fast. My broadband with o2 worked very well for well over a year. The wireless router was good enough to let me son play his xbox live in his room and for various mobile phones to get internet connections. Then without warning o2 did an upgrade and my router stopped working. I was sent what they called a better router - it wasn't. Kept disconnecting and there was no signal throughout the house. I complained and they sent me a second better version and again the same problems.
I then decided to move to BT who assured me there router was much better. And so the nightmare began.
o2 issued a mac code for the broadband and BT said it was invalid because there was something incomptable.
Went back to o2 and they insisted mac code was valid.
Returned to BT and again I was advised that mac code was invalid.
Back to o2 then BT then o2 then Bt then o2 then BT etc... etc..
Decided to contact Ofcom and they advised me the responsibility lay with o2 and that I should ask to speak to a manger. I did try however getting to a manger seems to be almost impossible. I was promised by o2 that they would send me another mac code and the advisor did admit they were having technical difficulties!!!

I have had what I beleive to be a similar problem with my present ISP Talk Talk, I wish to move to BT Infinity and having placed the order,was asked to request a Mac Code from TT which they duly provided.
This is where the fun begins !!
Promptly fed the Mac Code into the required online form - not recognised ! tried again and again - same result ! .
Contacted BT help and they explained that I would need to be on BT Broad Band before I could upgrade to Fibre,to which I accepted that may be the case.I then mentioned about the problematic Mac Code to which the CSrep took down the code and said he would then ring me on my mobile the following day with regard to instructions about Fibre Optics order and mac code problem. This he did but unfortunately the same problem with the mac code occurred.
So am now in the dilemma of being in between two ISPs albeit still connected to TT I would like to have been in a more positive situation with BT -

BT won't accept my MAC code
My wife wished to join BT changing from our original broadband supplier Sky.
So the story so far is having spent a whole day trying to achieve this and failed.
The reason is my MAC code is the wrong length for BT to accept.
My MAC code is four alpha numberics seven digits a slash and then four alphanumerical.
So I had an order, which a very nice man from BT suggested he had the solution and then my order was cancelled.
I spoke to sales, who passed me to a solution finder, who said they couldn't help.
I am amazed that sales can't take an order, nor apparently could anyone of the number of departments I spoke to.
My wife would still like to join BT, despite all these negative responses from BT themselves, so if anyone knows how to achieve signing up for broadband do tell. I just don't have anymore time to waste.

Hi.
I know I can get this from my provider (Tesco) but a piece of diagnostic software on my laptop says that my "MAC Address" is XX-Xy-Xy-XX-Xy-Xy, where X is a number and y is a lower case letter.
There are two other "MAC IDs" on a label on my wireless router but neither of these is the same as the above. (One is a LAN MAC ID and the other is a WLAN MAC ID).
Can I safely assume that the MAC Address mentioned in the software is the MAC number required by BT when asking for a switch to their BB?

Go to Solution.Hi, the MAC code that you quote is not the code required from your ISP, what you have given is the Media Access Control.
Wiki describes this as " MAC addresses are most often assigned by the manufacturer of a network interface card (NIC) and are stored in its hardware"
What you need is the Migratory Access Code.
There is always a lot of confusion with this.

I am trying to change my broadband from AOL to BT and need to get a MAC code from AOL to complete the transfer. The AOL account is registered in my ex-husbands name and he cannot be contacted (its a long story !) and AOL need certain information that I do not have before they will release the MAC code. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can break this stalemate ?

Go to Solution.A "tag" is placed against your line details, which prevents BT from providing service. Once AOL ceases the service, this "tag" should be removed. You can then order service from BT.
Delays can occur if this "tag" is not removed. The MAC process was introduced to try to make things run more smoothly, but it does not always work out that way.

When I enquired about Bt Infinity,I was told that I needed a mac code from my previous supplier virgin (adsl not cable).I obtained this and passed it onto BT.The next day after going live on BT Infinty I contacted virgin to see if my mac code had been used and was told it had not and that I would have to phone back and cancel with virgin and pay a £24 disconnection fee.I then contacted BT by phone and was told that I would have to pay this anyway.Any advice on this matter would be very helpful.

Interestingly for moves from Virgin Cable to BT there is no current formal system and Ofcom gives it as an example of what they call Cease and Provide where currently the consumer must do the leg work and sort out both ends themselves.
The OP is moving from Virgin National not Virgin Cable.
There is no disconnection charge providing you are no longer in contract and whoever told you there would be is wrong.

New to code, need help please!!!
I have been designing my first website by following a string of videos I have purchased online. (Timothy Training w/ Framework Files) I am finally to the point that I am ready to 'put' these file on my business catalyst account and get them online. I have run into an issue however. I have a page called services.html and within it I have built a 'featured content slider' that links to several pages. The code was working perfectly in any browser that I previewed it in, live view, inspections, everything was fine!! Until, I 'put' the files onto my business catalyst account, now all of the sudden the code does not display correctly anymore. I have made no changes to the code what-so-ever, no changes to the style sheets, nothing. I had a tech support guy that took a 'quick look' and said that my outer div was all of the sudden in the wrong place. I dont understand how 1. it shifted when I made no changes, 2. It works perfectly fine when I view it outside of BC platform and 3. how to even begin to fix the issue. I have spent hours upon hours trying to remedy this myself and I am finally at a breaking point and quite desperate for help. I have so many hours into this site and I am quite frustrated that I made it this far only for it to fail. Please anyone that is willing to take a look I would be grateful. I am not sure if I should post the code in here or not as this is my first post in the forum. I guess I will try to copy and paste and see if that works. Any suggestions would be great help.. I have an external hardrive for MAC, I needed to save something from my work computer so I can pass it on to my MAC, it requiered me to re-format my external HD and now when I connected to my MAC I only have "read only rights". How do I fix it? I run my Itnues from this external and now my library is gone. Luckily I have it saved somewhere else, which is not a problem, but I won't be able to write to this HD for right now. I can't see an option to give those permission back.

Unless what you have to transfer is enormous, skip the external HD altogether and use a USB flash drive; you can get them with capacities to 128GB. Format the flash drive as FAT32 or ExFAT as LowLuster suggests so it can be read and written to on both PC's and your Mac. -

The new tube like Macs are non compatible with UAD Cards. Those cards a must my sessionsYou can use Activity Monitor to check if apps run as 32 or 64 bit - simply look at the "Kind" column (you may need to select it under View -> Columns) and see if the app in question is listed as "Intel" i.e. 32 bit or as "Intel (64 bit)".
While in Activity Monitor you can also check if Pro Tools is close to the 3-4 GB limit of a 32 bit app - if you aren't you will probably not benefit from more RAM.
Your MacPro (it appears to be a Early 2009 model) should have come with a small booklet showing how to install RAM and what kind of RAM that you need. Any RAM that fulfills the requirements should work but your safest choice is probably to buy from a retailer/online store that supports Macs as they will usually know what kind of RAM you need for your mac model.
Upgrading the CPUs should be possible, but I haven't seen Apple document how to do this, so you will probably have to google around a bit to find instructions and CPU part numbers.
Your choice of CPUs will also be limited by the motherboard and CPU socket so you may be limited to faster version of your current CPU chip and some slightly newer versions.
Going from your current CPU to the fastest version included in the 2009 MacPros would be going from 2.26 GHz to 2.93 GHz. This would only give a modest 30% speed boost. Using newer and highly clocked CPUs might boost this somewhat more maybe to 50% ? -

Switching over from pc to mac and need help!
Ok so I plan on getting the new imac they are revealing today, but I'm not completely sure how to transfer all my music over from the pc and how the iPhone will sync as I've heard that the mac didn't recognize the iPhone after it had already been synced with a pc. I was just going to buy an external hd for the music and other things, but I really don't want to spend $100 plus for something that is only for transfer and some backup. I was considering burning cd's as well as I only have about a 250 song library and many blank cd's. Which choice or other option would be best? As for the not recognizing problem, is there something I have to do to like "format" it for mac and a feature I need to set up on the mac? Any help is appreciated.

The iPhone will show up on both a Windows-based PC and a Mac without needing to be reformated. From the File Menu in iTunes you can choose to sync your purchased music back to the computer.
In addition the Apple Retail Stores offer a service to move your files over.
You can burn approximately 150-200 songs per CD as a Data CD in iTunes, and import from there if you would like. You can set the CD Burning preference in iTunes in Windows by going to the Edit Menu, Preferences, Advanced Tab, then the burning section. Choose the option for "Data CD"
