Is a PC or Mac required?

I am considering getting an Apple TV for my mother's house.
She only has an iPad on WiFi-- no computer.
Will an Apple TV work for her?
Will she be able to use airplay from the iPad to the Apple TV withour a PC or Mac connected to the network?

You can stream direct from an iOS device, no computer needed.

I can't seem to install Mavericks to my mac and my MacBook meet all the Mac requirements...

If you are trying to see if you can track your mac but nothing comes up, be sure the mac is connected to wifi, not just using ethernet cable to a modem.

  • Intel Mac required?

Is an intel mac required to use iPhoto'08?
I understand that it is required to use iMovie'08.
    Thanks.

That's interesting. My dual 1.25 G4 does just fine with iPhoto 08. In fact, I believe it is faster. I've noticed that when I edit basic things like crops and go to the next image, it doesn't wait to apply the changes to the last image. It appears they are doing more things in the background which make my dual processor better suited than the faster G5 in your iMac.
Now, if I could only get it to work with iMovie. I guess it is time for a new computer soon. I upgraded my video card when Aperture came out only to find that it would then refuse to install because I did not have a G5.

Not unless your employer or ISP require it, but I'm not really clear on what Mac you are talking about. You are posting to the forum for OS X 10.3 (Panther) or earlier, but your profile doesn't show any Mac platforms, only an iPad.

  • MAC Requirements for iCLOUD

Among the different requirements that allow a MAC to be found in case of lost, is:
“The Mac system must have a local OS X Recovery partition.”
Can you please tell me why?
    Thank you

Your Mac does not need a recorvery partition in order to be found via "Find My Mac"? The recovery partition is just for re-installing OS X. By the way here a the Mac requirements for iCloud: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759

  • IPhone 4 Mac Requirements

Accd'g to the iPhone 4 Tech Specs page, the Mac requirement is "Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later".
This OS seems very recent to me, especially since I have 10.4.11 installed on my intel-based macbook
Any idea what will happen if I attempt to run the iPhone 4 with 10.4.11? Why does the iPhone care about the OS anyway? I thought iTunes would be the only requirement. Is it for Video editing, or something external to the main use of the iPhone? If I have to upgrade to 10.5.8, am I looking at $170 for the Mac Box? Thanks!

You can try calling the Apple Store and asking if they still have copies available. They did for quite some time after Snow Leopard was released, but they may have finally run out. If they did, you'll have to search for a private seller, on eBay or some such site, or at a dealer that carries discontinued software. Make sure you purchase a retail copy of 10.5 (black-labeled disks). The set that shipped with a Mac (grey labels) will not work and is not licensed for such use.

  • Sharing an address book over a local network - is .Mac required?

We have a smal Mac ethernet network of 4 or five macs all running OSX 10.3 or above and all with Administrator access. Each mac is used by one member of staff only. One member of staff maintains our client/supplier contacts database as an Excel worksheet on one of the macs, for mail merging with Word, marketing mail shots and other correspondence etc.
Other staff on the network need access to those up-to-date contacts on a daily basis and it is a pain accessing the Excel file all the time accross the network. I have my own pesonal .Mac membership account and I have successfully experimented with exporting the Excel file as a formatted text file (.txt) and importing the relevant fields from the file into Address Book. I intend empowering the 'contacts maintainer' to import the Excel contacts into her macs address book at periodic intervals....
Based on this scenario, my questions are as follows:
    a) Can other staff access/share her address book contacts over the network in their local copy of Address Book without a .Mac account?
    b) If she is set up with a .Mac account on her Mac...
    i) I can subscribe to her address book through my copy of Address Book as I have a .Mac account already - how will this display in my Address Book (Will it automatically creat a new Group?)
ii) Do other staff have to have individual .Mac accounts in order to subscribe to her Address Book contacts (and do they need the full .Mac Membership) – Could they not simply enter her .Mac member details in their macs System Prefs>.Mac>Account and then synchronise Contacts (and possibly iCal Calendars) as this is all they would require it for?
    c) Is there a simpler way to achieve all this at minimal cost?
    d) Is Directory Access>Contacts involved in a possible alternative solution or am I 'barking up the wrong tree'?
Would appreciate some help with this ASAP!
    DMC

    Hi Dozza,
The good news is YES, sharing an Address Book group(s) is easily done without .Mac
Since you are on an ethernet network, all you need to do is:
    1. Enable Sharing thru System Preferences from your "main" computer you wish to transfer data from/with.
    2. Drag your AB group(s) or individual cards to the desktop of your main computer - the one you have all the info in... (the cards will convert to vCards automatically.
    3. Place those groups or cards in your Drop Box folder which is: Hard Drive>Users>your "Home" folder>Public>Drop Box
    4. All networked computers will be able to access your Drop Box folder even if you do not want other info shared.
Of course .Mac is pretty darn handy too!
    Good Luck

  • What OS does a Mac Require?

    Hey folks,
Is there any way to determine which OS a machine REQUIRES in order to run. I know, often what ships with the unit isn't what is required. Since I like to keep all my machines on a standard install, I often find myself installing a slightly older OS on machines that ship with newer. Many of my users aren't ready for 10.5 either and it would be nice to know if their newer machines COULD run 10.4.11.
Is there any hardware or utility that would tell me this information?

In general Tiger will run on any Mac prior to November 2007, and perhaps a few newer ones, but not the very latest versions with a Gesture Touchpad and other new features. The drivers are simply not there.
The Macs that were shipped last year with Tiger and a Leopard update DVD, naturally will run Tiger, but any machine that actually shipped with Leopard preinstalled is questionable about "downgrading" as you will see from browsing posts in the board.
If you get a machine with Leopard preinstalled, I suggest letting those who are ready for a new experience use those.
In truth, while Leopard has many new features, etc., it is not much different from the user viewpoint as Tiger was. Some things are a bit different, some things like Sherlock and Classic support are gone, but overall, unless you actually start looking for the new 300 features, it's still just a Mac.
I actually think Leopard is easier to use than Tiger.

  • Do mac require antivirus

Please let me know if the macbbok air (or any apple product) requires antivirus ?

    Hi
No you shouldn't have to install any virus protection on apple products but it all comes down to personal choice there are anti virus software out there for mac but most people leave it to the general OSX to protect them see here for more info:

  • Mac required for upload to appstore?

Is a Mac ultimately required to upload an app to the iOs appstore?
App built, all hoops in iOs provisioning and iTunes Connect passed through  but one:   Uploading the binary!

If all your certificates and provisioning profiles are in order its a really fast process, basically as fast as you can upload, although there is one crazy step you have to go through and thats changing your .ipa file name to a .zip then extracting that inside that extracted folder find the .app file (might be .ipa) and then zip that to upload. Just zipping your finished .ipa will not work even if everything is right. This wasted a good few hours of my life before I found this out.

  • Text animation works on a Mac, requires refresh to start on a PC

Okay, I've worked up a dynamic animation which will
eventually be loading stuff dynamically from a server:
Unfortunately, the text only animates automatically on a Mac
(in either Safari or Opera), after a reload (on a Mac or PC in
Firefox) or intermittently after a compleat reload (on a PC running
IE <v8) --- it works in IE v8 on a PC.
I'd thought the animation code was pretty straightforward and
can't see it being the problem since it works everywhere
    eventually.
Is there some secret to ensuring that all of the animation
    begins?

I e-mailed the link to my wifes pc(
Thinkpad w/latest version of XP) by copy and pasteing
it into an e-mail. Once the mail is retreived a click
on the link gets me a generic error message (page
    cannot be found).
Can I trust this to work on any computer since my
    business depends on it.
Most likely the problem is that your link got messed up in the email at the pc end. It is quite common for garbage pc mail programs to split the url and add a return or space somewhere, so that clicking on it or copy/pasting it gives an error. Sometimes this can be avoided by putting brackets around the url (<....>) in the email you send. Also it helps to just use the shortest possible url, which after the 1.0.1 update is http://web.mac.com/username I think

  • During initial setup of mac pro, used pc to mac transfer, after transfer mac requires new password to enter account but will not accpt password

During the initial setup of mac book pro, I did the pc to mac transfer. After transfer was complete, mac had two user accounts aspen pc machine? and dell. Upon trying to access either, the mac says I have to enter new password to enter. It will not accept new password. What do I do?

Well....I bit the bullet and called Apple tech support this morning and agreed to pay my $49 for the tech support. I ended up talking to a Boot Camp specialist. In the end his position was that "they didn't support Windows" and my particular problem was a "Windows problem". I countered with the fact that they advertise that one of their selling points was that Windows could run on an Intel Mac and that I ought to at least be able to install Windows. They said that most people were able to install Windows with no problems. I agreed, but told them that, after searching the Internet, I had read numerous posts from folks that had the same problem and that Apple really should address it. They were very polite and even agreed not to charge me the $49, but their final position was that it was a "Windows problem."
I guess that at this point I'll try to return the Windows disk to Amazon and see if they'll give me a replacement.

  • FONTS - Works fine in a MAC, requires "substitution" on PC

    Dear Folks:
I make stuff in Photoshop CS on Mac. I open it on a PC afterwards and the fonts I've chosen are "substituted" with others by the Windows version of the same software.
How can I get this under control? How can I tell which fonts are happy in both platforms?
    Can Font Book help?
    Thanks
    Raoul

    Hi, Raoul.
There's info missing from your question, such as the version of Photoshop you are using on each computer, if your sending .PSD files to the PC, etc. However, assuming you're sending the .PSDs, I suspect the font substitution is occurring because you're using fonts on the Mac that are unavailable on the PC in question. You'd need to either use fonts that are common to both computers, or assure both computers have the identical fonts installed.
Where Font Book can help is that it will tell you what fonts are installed on the Mac in the default font locations employed by Mac OS X: see "Mac OS X: Font Locations and Their Purposes." However, Adobe products also include fonts that they install in their own font-related folders, outside of the default font locations managed by Font Book.
If the above does not help, I suggest you try yuor questions on the Adobe Photoshop Mac Forum, where Photoshop questions are answered.
    Good luck!

  • Mac requirements for Photoshop/Illustrator

This probably gets asked Ad Nauseum, but we're PC users who now need a new computer and have decided to go to a Mac, with the principle purpose of working with Web Premium CS5, in particular Photoshop and Illustrator.
We want something robust enough to work with these programs at a better than minimum performance level, especially with 3D rendering involved.
So my question is if the following specs for the New iMac at $1699 CAD will be sufficient. My concern might be the 512MB for the Graphics controller ... and how much better is 3.1 Ghz for the Processor ?
    27-inch: 2.7GHz
    2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
    2560 x 1440 resolution
    4GB (two 2GB) memory
    1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB
    Thanks!

3.1 is what, 10% faster than 2.7?  It's pretty much that straight up when looking at the same processor, isn't it?
Illustrator, up to CS5 anyway, could care less about your graphics card.  CS6 is rumored to be 64 bit and as such might also have been written to take advantage of modern things like graphics cards.
RAM - Up to CS5, about 2gb was all Illustrator could use itself so beyond that, you're only helping multitasking, (which is important to a degree).  Pshop will take whatever you give it.  Not sure about inDesign and the others.  I think ID uses more, but I'm not sure.  CS6 though, if it is 64bit, will use all you give it (which will be awesome)
Blah, blah, realworld:  I work at home now, on my 23" iMac 3.06 with 6gigs of ram, and it is perfectly fine 90% of the time.  The other 10%, when I'm working with bigger files in Illus., (like packaging for a pair of stilts the other day) it can get a little slow, but I don't think it's much slower than the monster Mac Pro I had when I was working in the office.  My feeling is that with CS6 that might make a bigger difference, but CS5 and below are crippled more by the software than any hardware you can throw at them these days.

  • Rocket Dual eSATA 6Gb/s For Mac ~ Requires Reboot to Recognize Drives

I bought this card when ordering my Mac Pro from Apple last year based on the recommendations of the sales staff on the phone.
I have had a huge disappointment at discovering the drives only show up in the finder if I reboot the computer.  No hot swappable, it would appear, a very huge negative for me, and it doesn't make me happy, I feel a little cheated or defrauded by the recommendation based on what one would expect.
I do video editing and I've got a ton of apps open at once, shutting down all of my projects to access a multiple number of drives is a huge pain inconvenience and annoyance.
I called Apple initially upon discovery of this newly installed card not recognizing drives unless I reboot, and they told me to contact the card manufacturer: Highpoint.  Highpoint doesn't have a good website help setup that I can discern, and I'm looking for a solution to this problem if one has been developed, be it a software update, a driver, or something else.
Is there a software update, fix, or workaround?

This is generally not apple's problem.  The problem(s) are with the eSata drivers for that card or the external eSata enclosure's electronics or both.  I had a similar problem (couldn't remount until reboot if dismounted) using a NewerTech MAXPower PCIe 2-port eSATA card with my OWC enclosure.  I exchanged the card for a Sonnet Technology Tempo E2P and it worked with my enclosure.
