Is a sudden blue screen log out connected to audio volume control?

I use three computers all with the appropriately updated Mac OS (10.4.5). In all three, I am experiencing the same curious problem. Now and again, the screen goes blue and then we are into the log in routine. All applications have to be restarted. I have noticed that adjusting sound by making use of the keyboard sound control appears to lead to this event happening (after several seconds delay). There is an additional common feature to all of this: I have replaced the hard disk in all three. In this Powerbook 12", I installed a 250 GB disk, in a 20" G5 iMac at work, I replaced a 150GB disk with a 500 GB and then used the replaced 150 GB disk to replace an 80 GB disk in an 18" iMac at home with a 1.6 GHz processor.

Two things: First, 10.4.5 is not the most updated version of Tiger; it has been up to 10.4.11 for some time now. You should run your software update.
Second, this forum is for problems running OS 10.5 Leopard, not 10.4 Tiger. You might have a better chance at a good response in the Tiger forums here:

  • Windows Blue screen when I connect iPhone to my PC.

    I've narrowed down the cause of the Windows blue screen when I connect the iPhone to via USB. If there are photos in Camera Roll I get the blue screen. When there are no pictures -- no blue screen. I can reproduce this every time now. I can live with this for now but want to be able to report it so it can get fixed.
    Does anyone else have this same problem or something I can do to resolve myself?

    Hello to everyone who is posting here and still encountering a blue screen.
    Posted below are a couple articles that speak about this. Some which may or may not apply to your current blue screen.

    Symptoms
    An error message may appear on a blue screen when syncing a Microsoft Windows-compatible computer (XP or Vista) and an iPhone or iPod touch with saved photos (taken with the iPhone camera or saved from Safari or Mail). This issue can also occur due to a USB driver conflict with another device connected to the computer.

  • Blue screen error when connecting an ethernet cable

    I have a Compaq Presario 5300US desktop that I'm trying to upgrade.  It has 512mb (max) of memory and a newer video card than the factory one.  I installed Vista Home Basic on it with no problems.  I also installed a pci ethernet card along with the Vista drivers that came with it.  I checked tha card's properties in "device manager" and it said "This device is working properly".  I haven't plugged in an ethernet cable to the card at this point.  Everything is working OK, but as soon as I try to connect the card to my router, I get a blue screen with this message:
    Hardware Malfunction
    NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
    *** The system has halted***
    I don't get any memory errors as long as I don't try to use the ethernet card.

    Hello @larrycarol99,
    I understand that after upgrading your computer when you plug in an ethernet cord you get a hardware malfunction error. I am providing you with a Microsoft Support document: Hardware Malfunction Results in System Error Message that explains what causes that error and provides steps on fixing it. I am also including a link to the Compaq Presario 5300US Desktop PC Drivers page, which unfortunately does not have any drivers for your computer running Windows Vista.
    I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • A205-S5866, "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL/Blue Screen event", when connected to Ethernet,

    I will apologize in advance if I'm in the wrong place or if this is too elemental, I tried searching a bit before posting.  But here goes...
    I started getting the "DRIVER.IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" message/Blue Screen problem event yesterday.  There are a few things that over the course of the last 24 hrs that started to appear as potential triggers/accomplices. (maybe I was/am reaching, I don't know)
    *It only has happened when my laptop was connected to an Ethernet wire/chord.  This was the 1st time I had used it, previously I had
    always used wifi. (without any problems)
    *It seemed to crash/shut down around when I would sign in or out of yahoo messenger or my "myyahoo" page
    Extra points of relevant info... 2 things that I did hours before the 1st occurrence:
    1) I did a windows update (the automatic kind, that you get notices prompting you about);
    2) I had internet service set up in my apartment & the company's tech did the installation. (also, I am from the U.S. and bought my laptop at home before I left, but I am now in Seoul, S. Korea, just in case that is relevant somehow)
    What I have done (after this started to happen) so far, is 1) used the internet via wifi without problem, 2) performed a system restore to before the automatic update, 3) tried again with the Ethernet & encountered the same problem.
    Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Jerry & CristopherC, again, thanks for your replies.  Not sure if you realize how much the "technologically challenged" like myself appreciate the help!
    OK...
    ChristopherC you understood correctly, I have been able to access the net (& stay on for long periods of time) without any problems.  But when connected by the ethernet/modem I get those messages, etc.
    *I am trying as hard as I can to avoid the "clean wipe" of my cpu because as I mentioned, I am in Korea & I have a "slingbox" type thing that I am accessing back home to get American cable, and if I perform that, then the network connection I established will be lost.
    Jerry - You nailed the "stop #/BCCcode" it was D1.  The time I had the Microsoft "auto search" for a solution, it came back with this info.: BCCode d1, BCP1 00000004, BCP2 00000002, BCP3 00000001, BCP4 8BDD5DD9, OS Version  6_0_6001, Service Pack 1_0, Product 768_1
    BUT... I copied down the just the message info. (without the autosearch) 2 of the other times, and it gave:
    -Stop:  0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x82BF3DD9, 0xA6DE3204, 0x00000000)
    -Stop:  0x000000D1 (0xCBE46973, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8289DB4E)
     Also, I made an attempt once at the "Safe Mode Diagnostic", and got this other info... Prob Event Name: Blue Screen, Locale ID: 1033, OS Version (which seems slightly different than the #'s above) 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
    I not sure what, if any, significance this info has. :-)
     OK, I will to do those hot fixes you suggested & report back.  Thanks again!

  • Blue Screen Log in

    I need help! I have a Macbook pro and as of today I can no longer log in. I've tried resetting my pram and restarted in safemode. None of this works. When I turn on my computer, the apple symbol comes on but then after that goes away... it just stays on the blue screen and loads over and over and over again. Doesn't pull up the log-in screen or anything. Like it is resetting but not properly. It does not get past the blue screen. I am in Yuma, Arizona on a MCAS and I do not have access to my utility disc because it is at home in California. I can't even leave base to go to an apple store. Can someone please help me on how I can get my computer working again because it is all i have out here?

    Try Booting into Safe Mode.
    To do this, you must turn on your MacBook Pro and when you hear the startup chime, press and hold the "Shift" key until you see the spinning wheel. If the computer logs in on safe mode, then shut your Mac down and reboot it normally.
    That should take care of the problem.
    Post back for updates...
    Edit: When you boot into safe mode you will be required to put your account password. Good Luck!

  • Itunes crashed too Blue Screen when I connect Ipod to computer

    My Itunes crashes to the Windows blue screen of death whenever I connect my Ipod to Itunes. I have ran tried both the solutions that are posted in the support section of this website, but none of those solutions seemed to work. I have an Ipod Classic and am running the latest version of Itunes (8.02 I think). The error code that comes up in the blue screen is:
    STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80154000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is quite frustrating.

    Did you follow through all the links on the page?
    You need to give information about exactly what you have tried in order for someone to help you.
    I do not have an iPhone and know nothing about them so I can't give detailed help.
    In general you tend to get BSOD with low level problems such as drivers or hardware issues. Are you up to date with the downloads from computer manufacturer's download site for your model of computer? If you follow the links there are various suggestions about the sorts of things that could cause trouble.
    If you are getting a blue screen stop, it would help if you could post the exact error message. It should be some sort of numbers and text -
    0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    For example:
    Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
    Also is a file name mentioned in the error message? If so give the exact file name. This is very important as it may identify the driver causing the trouble.
    if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

    hi,
    if you want to update your Bios, go to the Toshiba driver page and choose the appropriate Bios version for you model. Download it and run. Don't forget to close all the running programs, disable Antivirus, Firewall before running it. Then, you will be asked to restart the computer. Pray that Bios process would occur properly otherwise you will have blank screen on startup. In this case, you will have to contact TASP (Toshiba authorized service provider).
    To be honestly, I don't recommend you to flash the Bios, in your case it doesn't help your in audio crackling and BSOD. I updated my BIos but it didn't fix the problem. I think, it's graphic driver issue.You can go to the nvidia.com and download a new graphic card driver released recently. Install it and check. I also had audio crackling and the system freezing that gone after updating that driver. Note, that driver isn't pretested by Toshiba (not modified for overheating protection, anyway the users say this in the forum) but install it at my own risk and still have no problems.

  • IPod touch causes "blue screen" crash on connection

    So, following a defrag on my XP based pc, when I connect my iPod touch to the pc via USB, the PC immediately blue screens. (STOP 0x0000007E 0xc00000005 0x00000000 0xf78ed7c4 0xf78ed4c0).
    I suspect it may be the iPod touch USB driver? Is that likely? If so, how do I remove the corrupt driver and reinstall?
    Thanks

    Thankfully, after a few changes and reviewing some of the other posts in this excellent forum, I have resolved the problem. It had nothing to do with the defrag at all. What I had omitted was that prior to the blue screen, I had installed the free Photoshop Mobile App from Adobe. By editing and saving a photo, a new directory was created in the photo albums. Then when I connected the iPod to my PC, for reasons best known to Aple (but see various other threads in this forum) the pc thought the iPod was a camera, and tried to load a USB camera driver. I assume this must have conflicted with an existing USB driver on my pc, causing it to "blue screen". By totally removing the app and the new album on my iPod, I was able to make my pc recognise the iPod as an iPod again. Shame, I thought the photoshop app was good, but I shall avoid it (and any other app that creates albums / photos) in future.
    Is there any obvious way to alert Apple to these sort of problems with third party apps - or possibly with their OS on the iPod which should be able to stop errors like this?

  • PC Blue Screen when Nano connected to computer

    when I originally connected my nano to my PC it worked infe. I got a new computer (Dell) installed iTunes and was able to successfully connect my iPhone but whenever i connect my nano I get the blue screen. Apple Geniuses told me they do not support compatibility problems with PC's so tough luck.
    I understand that the iPhone and iPod look differently to the computer. the nano looks like an external disk drive. However, I have an external disk drive that I successfully connect to the Dell. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Stuttering cursor & sudden blue screen??

    There seem to be 2 new problems upon installing 10.5.6-
    1) The mouse stutters as it moves or gets stuck then catches up quickly, but this, not right after a re-start but only after it wakes up from a first sleep then its there for good.
    2) Suddenly and randomly the screen just cuts to the "start-up" blue screen for a few seconds then back to what was on the screen?
    Similar problems??

  • JD3.2; BC4J; JSP; logging out connections

    We have developed user connections by building on Juan's application pool example

    But we would like to be able to log users out. Is there a way of doing this cleanly?
    We would like to present the users with a log-out button that resolves any uncompleted transactions, closes down the session and frees any outstanding database locks.
    The biggest single problem we have with BC4J on the database is that it doesn't tidy up its locks if the transaction fails for any reason. And given that JServ only supports Servlet API 2.0 session failures happen all too frequently.
    There seems to have been a couple of postings on this issue, but no replies for the JDev team.

    public void setReleaseApplicationResources(boolean release){

    }the last thing i do in the render method of the RS bean is: m_rsBrowser.render(); which in turn the last thing this bean do is: releaseApplicationResources(); so my code is equivalent to the recomendation you did.
    but ph is subclassing ViewCurrentRecord so the equivalent of your recomendation is:
    ph.render();
    RS.render();
    ph.setReleaseApplicationResources(true);
    ph.releaseApplicationResources();
    Right? I did it this way and throws me the same error.
    Q. remains:
    1)What does mean the Error Message: Component object XXXX has no parent?
    2) Under what circumstances the previous error throws?
    3) How I can recover my application from this error?
    4) is My application is going to degrade?(i've changed all the setReleaseApplicationResources to false) to make it work.

    I find when I wake my Macbook Pro up from sleep while attached to my 23" Cinema Display I get a blue screen for anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds and then my screen. It doesn't cause problems but its just annoying. When just using the Macbook Pro its screen appears immediately.
