Is a Windows based Personal Ancestry File compatibile with any Mac Ancestry software programs?

I have a Windows-based Personal Ancestral File ( *.paf) that I want to use on my Macbook Pro with OSX Lion. Is there a way to convert that file info. so I can use it? Can I somehow upload it--if so, how?

Lotus Approach? Or something else? If this is Lotus Approach or the same software before IBM bought it, I don't think there's anything else that can read Approach's native database format, so you will probably need to get Approach running to be able to get the data out of it. If you have a copy of Windows you can use, you can install Windows on your MacBook Pro using the free VirtualBox, then install Approach and either export or manually copy out the data.
If you're not referring to Lotus Approach, let us know and perhaps someone will have other options.

I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

Look for a program called BlueHarvest. I'm not sure if it still works with Mountain Lion.
I believe your file server can be set up to handle the metadata files, but I suppose that would depend on the Server software and your IT staff.

We've used the Logitech quickcam Vision Pro for Mac on our mini, with 10.6, and ichat, which has worked well. Looks like it's discontinued, however, a number of sellers on ebay are selling them new for $60-$70.

There is not "fix" to be provided, Apple made a decision to not include the file sharing profile.

Sort of. I found this article below that helped me to connect to the remote CF server using MXML. It seems that you have to create a regular project in Flex with Aplication Server Type set to None and connect to CF using the endpoint attribute of the RemoteObject MXML tag or via AS.

However I found out after getting error using the AS3 code to use the endpoint property that
mx.rpc.remoting.RemoteObject does not support the "endpoint" property

So I had to change my AS3 code by adding a new channel to my RemoteObject using a code similar to the one on the link below (Note that this code uses PHP, when I instantiate myRemoteObject, I do so informing that the destination is "ColdFusion" [new RemoteObject("ColdFusion")], so no need to set destination as in the code on the link below

Printing a PDF file online with any OJ 100 printer,we receive unknown error light sequence.

When printing a PDF file online on all of our Officejet 100 Mobile L411 USB printers, we encounter an undocumented error light sequence. The error light sequence we encounter is Power light blinks in conjuction with the Bluetooth light then those 2 lights blink off and the Resume light and both cartridge lights blink on. then those three lights blink off and the power light and the Bluetooth light blink on again and so it goes. You cannot reset this error by any other means other than powering the printer down and the printer will not power down with the power button. The only way the printer will power down with the above flashing light sequence showing is to disconnect AC power and remove the battery.
With the above described flashing light sequence displayed, the printer has no problem continuing to print and will continue to print other documents with the flashing light seguence displayed.
If the above mentioned PDF file is saved off to the computer and then printed from there, it will print on this printer ok without starting the flashing light sequence described above so evidently there are control characters attached to the online PDF file that get stripped off when the document is saved. I don't know what those characters could be but I do know that only all of the Officejet 100 printers we have display this problem. We can print the same documents on our HP 470 mobile printers ok without any issues or have no problem printing the same document with other models of HP printers. It is only when printing this document with any HP Officejet 100 mobile L411 printer that we have this problem.
As mentioned above, the flashing light sequence described above is not a sequence described in the Operators Manual so we don't know what it means. Also it is apparent that the online document(s) we are printing have some control characters attached to them that are incompatible with this printer but we do not know what characters they are. Are there some settings that we can setup in the printers properties that would solve this issue for us?
As I have explained above, this particular flashing light seguence does not keep the printer from printing the online documents or any other documents succesfully, however this sequence cannot be reset by any other way other than killing all power to the printer.

How to get file attribs - on any Mac

ok so if the Mac in question has Developer / Tools - yeah the GetFileInfo binary will work to get the Type and Creator code and other info.... since most Macs dont have this bulky download... how to get file attribute information via Terminal ? How to change it ?

Oddly enough I was just now playing around with a getinfo Applescript and studying the event log when I realized that it does return information about at least some of the attributes. I made the ones that it looks like you can get information about bold:

The SetFile function is actually available on any Mac that has a recent Tiger updater package installed. Thus I have copies in both the package updaters and the receipts for 10.4.7, .8, .9 and .10 in the /Library/Packages and /Library/Receipts folders. The SetFile command is in the Resources folder:
"/Library/Packages/MacOSXUpd10.4.10PPC.pkg/Contents/Resources/SetFile"
Control click on the .pkg file and select Show contents from the Contextual Menu to get there. Unfortunately I don't know of any way to use some other Terminal command to get information on all the attributes, except the GetFileInfo and using the Applescipt get info function.

I would just save a copy of the local site folder and the .ste on a thumb drive and copy them over to the new machine.
You don't have to export it directly onto the thumb/flash drive or anything. Actually, you don't "need" the .ste at all.
The only reason to make the .ste file is to transfer over your site-specific settings (like FTP credentials) without having to re-type/re-select everything, it doesn't copy any actual site files over.
Once the site files are copied over, you can just go to Site > New to set up the new site. Rather than going to a new blank folder, you would set the Local Root Directory to the newly copied site folder.

AVCHD file compatibillity with Prem. Pro CS5

I have Premiere Pro CS5 and am switching from my old miniDV camcorder to a new AVCHD format camcorder. I'm used to capturing footage directly from my old tape camcorder, but am not familiar with the process of working with files on a flash card. Will I be able to transfer and edit the video files as easily--and hopefully faster--as compared to the capture from tape? Please advise before I invest in the new camcorder. I'm obviously new to this process so any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

1. The "transferring and importing files" link you provided indicates that CS5 supports "M4V (MPEG-4 Video File).
I'm looking at purchasing the Panasonic AG-AC130A camcorder and its spec sheet indicates that the video compression is "MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD)." Am I correct in assuming that M4V to Premiere Pro is the same as MPEG-4 to Panasonic? 2. The next question involves the debate -- 1080p/30fps versus 720p/60fps
I will primarily use the camera for shooting (1) lecture-based training videos with layered text graphics for emphasis, and (2) youth hockey games. While the opinions abound on the net, it appears that 1080p/30fps would be best for the lecture videos since there will not be a lot of movement in the sequences, and 720p/60fps is best for the hockey games due to fast movement of the players and fast panning. The camcorders in my budget do not shoot 1080p/60. While the camcorder does support 1080i/60, everything I've read online says not to use it.
Am I on the right path with these thoughts?

Only you will see the backup of your Mac.

You will need a special Windows application like Genie Timeline Pro to be able to backup the PCs automatically to the Time Capsule. Otherwise, you must manually copy the files over.
Check with the Genie folks on backup details for the PCs before you buy.

I Am using the latest version of ITunes on windows platform. I am unable to see the option to sync my iPhone and my iPad contacts with my gmail contacts account. iTunes only gives me the choice to use outlook or windows contacts.

Are you trying to set up your Gmail account as an Exchange account? If so, you need to know that Google no longer supports that service for free Gmail accounts. See this article for how to sync your contacts:
