Is Acrobat Pro required in order to be able to REMOVE fonts?

I need to remove fonts from files I am receiving from clients overseas in order to be able to upload the files to U.S. Patent Office for filing.  (The PTO job options file embeds referenced-but-non-embedded fonts, but certain Japanese fonts that are referenced in the source file won't embed, and that is preventing the upload.) I have Acrobat 9, Standard.  I was looking at tutorials on-line for guidance as to how to strip such fonts, but don't seem to find the various menu items that are referenced in the tutorials.  Do I need Acrobat PRO to do such editing?
Thanks

If possible the task would require use of a Preflight. Preflights are only available with Acrobat Pro.
A quick look through the available Fixups Preflight choices does not show a "remove fonts".
A note re: embedding fonts.
Acrobat Pro (starting with Acrobat Pro 9.x) provides a Fixup to "Embed Fonts" and a "Embed fonts (even if text is invisible)".
As with any routine processes an existing PDF to embed fonts the following applies (text is that present with the "Embed fonts" Fixup):
"If a PDF uses fonts which are not embedded into the PDF file they are embedded as subsets using this fixup.
It is required that the respective fonts are available to the OS, either in the system folder or activated via a font manager.
Some fonts may have a flag that their license does not allow embedding. In this case the fonts are not embedded into the PDF."
If you had Acrobat Pro and the Japanese fonts installed on your local machine you could embed them (provided the font license permits this).
Alternatively, you client could use process the content into PDF such that the PDF had all fonts embedded and then sent that PDF to you.
Or, the client uses the Acrobat Pro Preflight Fixup to embed the Japanese fonts in issue (this presumes the fonts are installed and available on their local machine).
Be well...

  • CS6 Acrobat Pro requires activation -- AGAIN!

    I bought CS6, installed it and ran it happily for two months, and then suddenly it said that Acrobat Pro was not activated.  I posted a note in this Forum and was told to reinstall it with the same original activation key, which I did.  It worked.
    Now, two months later, it is suddenly telling me again that Acrobat Pro is not activated.  I guess I know what to do (deinstall and reinstall), but this is very annoying to say the least.  What is going on?  Are you doing some automatic update which is wiping out the activation?
    I am finalizing a book tonight, wanted to submit it tomorrow, but I guess I get to go to the office tomorrow, deinstall and reinstall, and hope I can get this book submitted on Monday.
    Arghh.

    I have my license number, so I thought I would open Adobe Pro X and activate it, but when I ask to open the application it simply does not come up.  Nothing.  No error message, nothing.
    I checked again.  I bought the software in mid-July and installed it shortly after receiving it.
    The first episode like this happened 6 weeks later.  My posting will be somewhere in this Forum.  At that time, it not only did not come up, bot it actually disappeared off my system by itself -- it was no longer listed in the list of available applications on my system.
    Today it is listed as an application, and has a list of the most recently accessed documents, but I cannot get the application to open at all.
    I even tried right-clicking and checking the Properties for the application, and asked it to run in Administrator mode, but again it just disappeared off my screen and no application started.

  • Acrobat Pro 6.0 - Text Box Properties: How-to change font / default

    Inserting text box into an existing .pdf opened in Acrobat Pro ver. 6.0
    Need to change font size to smallest. Right-clicking on field to open 'properties', clicking on 'Appearance' tab, BUT there is no choice for 'font'.
    HOW DO I...change the font size in a text box?
    HOW DO I...set the default to that font/size/color/border/fill?

    You need to have the Properties Bar open (Ctrl + E), double-click on the text so you can select some of it, and you should see where you can specify the various font properties.

  • I have created an editable PDF via Adobe Indesign. When I open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, is there a way to specify a font style? Or is there a way in InDesign to make sure when someone type in that text field it is a certain font?

    I need to make sure the text that is entered is a certain font to keep it continuous with the rest of the document. Thank you!

    To go into form editing mode, select "Prepare Form" in the right hand pane. You'll then get a toolbar along the top that contains the various form-related tools. The first thing to do is add a temporary button. You'll use this to determine the name of the font for use with the script as well as place the script that will change the font properties of the text fields. So create a button anywhere, double-click it to bring up the field properties dialog, and on the Actions tab add a JavaScript action to the Mouse Up event that is:
    // Mouse Up script for temporary button
    app.alert(event.target.textFont);
    On the Appearance tab, select the font that you want to use for the text fields. Once you've done that, close form editing mode and click the button. It will display a popup that will list the font name. This may be different than the name that appeared in the dropdown on the appearance tab, so write it down. For example, when I chose "Minion Pro" from the dropdown, the popup showed "MinionPro-Regular".
    The next step is to replace that Mouse Up script with the following:
    // Mouse Up script for temporary button
    // Change the font and font size for all text field in this document
    for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i++) {
        var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
        if (f.type === "text") {
            f.textFont = "MinionPro-Regular";
            f.textSize = 9;
    Replace "MinionPro-Regular" with the font name that you wrote down before and set the font size to whatever you want. Use 0 to specify a font size of "Auto".
    This script will change the font of all text fields to whatever you specify. When you've confirmed that the text fields are set up as you want, you can go ahead and delete or hide the button. If you think you'll be doing a lot of forms work, you can create custom tools in Acrobat to speed up this process, but this should get you started. InDesign won't let you specify a lot of field properties and actions, so you have to work this way, and using automation scripts is an accessible way to significantly speed up the process and avoid mistakes.

  • I purchased adobe acrobat pro last summer and was never able to get it to work. I gave up on it but am in immediate need of use of the program. Every time I try to use it it says that I need to enter a serial number but my serial number never worked from

    My serial number does not work and never worked, is there any way that I can be issued a new one?

  • Adobe Reader 9.3 will not open in Adobe Acrobat Pro 8

    We are currently running Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Version 8.2.0 with Acrobat Distiller 8 and Adobe Live Cycle Disigner 8.0. I have downloaded Adobe Reader 9.3, but it still will not open 9.3 documents it defaults to the Reader 8 and I get an error message.
    How do I change the default Reader to 9.3 or do I have to buy the upgrade for Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 in order to be able to open and use on-line forms that require 9.3?
    Help!

    Well that is my question, we have a fully authorized and purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro
    8.
    When I do an update for Adobe Acrobat 8, it does not install the updated Reader 9.3.
    In order to update the Reader to 9.3, I have to install it seperately. It does that, but when I open 9.3 it defaults to the 8 Reader.
    So I guess the answer to my question is that I have to update to the 9.3 full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro, what a rip by Adobe just so we can use the newest "free" Reader.

    I know others have had same/similar experiences with somewhat earlier versions of Acrobat Pro, for example:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5164184#5164184
    I've reinstalled Acrobat Pro, and also did a Repair Installation from the Help menu, but nothing seems to fix it.
    I also have Adobe CS5 installed (not all components).  All software is fully updated -- both Adobe products and Windows 7.
    I occasionally use the form functions of Acrobat Pro and would like to be able to edit forms... so I much rather not disable the entire function.
    Any suggestions on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    JF

    This has bothered me for a while, never was able to find a solution, so today it began to bother me and I thought I would bump up this thread.
    Is there a solution? Or has Adobe decided not to address it for their customers that get the error? For me, my event log shows this error at least once for every day.

  • Can't install Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

    I purchased CS5 about 18 months ago and have recently had the need to install Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, which came with it. However, the disc isn't being read and I can't find anywhere to download Acrobat Pro 9 in order to use the serial number. Please advise! I need it quite urgently.

    I am in the same situation.  I have a legal copy of Adobe Acrobat Preo 9, but can no longer read the disk I made when I first downloaded it.  I downloadeD Adobe Acrobat  9 extended and tried a friends copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 standard.  Neither of them would accept my seria number, which I downloaded from My Adobe.  Dealing with Adobe is ftustrating.

  • Red Hat LiveCycle w/o Acrobat Pro?

    We have a mostly Red Hat Enterprise shop, and I would prefer to use that version of LiveCycle, but
    I'm confused about the Acrobat Pro requirement since that isn't available for Linux. So...
    1. If I don't have Acrobat Pro, does that mean that the PDF Generator module won't work?
    2. Can I have the Acrobat Pro running on a Windows machine connected with LiveCycle on a Linux server?

    Thanks so much. That answers my question. I hope that the fact that Adobe has a PDF Library SDK that works on Linux means Adobe might one day have a full Acrobat for that platform.

  • Downloading a free Reader without disrupting Acrobat Pro

    I have Adobe Acrobat Pro which i LOVE and use daily.. However, one website i also use everyday requires Adobe Reader plug in to operate correctly. When i downloaded this free Reader a year ago or so, it completely took over and disabled by Acrobat Pro, requiring a long process over the phone to get rid of the Reader and re-install my Pro.. has anything changed so that i can download the free Reader plug-in without it touching my Acrobat Pro?

    It is not a public site. One needs to be registered in a particular project to download their pdf, complete the required information and reupload it.. I did not mention that this only happens from my MAC.. i can operate the system just fine on a PC. however, teh PC is old and i use it for nothing else but to access this site.. i would rather be using my MAC.. i cannot tell you what they have done ... but this was the "workaround" they developed for MAC users..  i will try it again, will you be willing to give me your phone number to call in case the same thing happens this time i try to download Reader and it disrupts my Acrobat Pro??????

  • Creating Forms in Acrobat Pro

    I have created a form in Acrobat Pro. I want to be able to email it out to my clients, have them fill it out, save it and email it back to me.
    I've got the form created. I looks great and works well if you've got ACrobat Pro. But all my clients just have reader.
    They can't fill out the form and email it back. I get a lot of errors saying that their version of Acrobat can only save a blank copy.
    What can I do to fix this? I really need them to be able to fill out this form and email it back to me.
    Thanks.
    -DRW

    Really. Have to say that's kind of irritating.
    Not really sure what Adobe is trying to accomplish with that. I have Acrobat Pro, all my clients have Reader... what's the big deal? Why 500? why not 600 or 510?
    There are too many rules to keep up with... I'm moving to Canada. They are less strict up there... lol.
    Thanks for the heads up. It'll be years before I reach the 500 uses. Maybe by then Adobe won't care.

  • Cannot Reinstall Acrobat Pro 7.0

    I have CS2. I uninstalled Acrobat Pro 7.0. Now I cannot reinstall it from the original software. Install runs but does not install anything, nor does it show any error messages. I have XP SP3 and IE8. I have Reader 9.1.2  The other componens of CS2 work fine. Any help?

    Adobe recommends that you do not have Acrobat and Acrobat Reader installed on the same system. The programs have files that each products installs in the same folders that can cause all kinds of problems such as yours. I strongly suggest you remove Acrobat Reader using the Windows Install Cleanup Utility. Then reinstall Acrobat Pro. You still will be able to view PDF files in your browser with Acrobat itself without Reader being installed.
    Good luck.

  • Acrobat pro features for Ipad?

    Is there an Ipad app with the same features as Acrobat pro? I want to be able to create a pdf document out of several photos, and  to crop each page (photo).

    In the latest version of Adobe Reader for iOS, if you subscribe to the PDF Pack service, you can convert images to PDF directly within the app. But, you won't be able to crop them...
