Is Adobe encouraging software piracy?

I have Studio MX2004 and have just bought a Mac as my PC got
to the point of crashing or resetting itself with every program
opened. I decided instead of constant PC repair bills that I would
get a computer that works and is free of constant security attacks,
and I did always have up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spam software,
it was hardware problems, most of which had been replaced (sold to
me) in efforts to resolve problems.
Now, Adobe UK say they can crossgrade a licence up to five
times and only if it's the latest version. What do you think? Get
an illegal copy just to do what it says on the Studio MX2004 box
that it can do? What have I already paid hundreds of pounds for
(about US$1200)? Should I get an upgrade that I don't need putting
myself into massive debt that could potentially bankrupt me? Sounds
like an invitation to try software piracy?
Would you use pirated software to use what you have already paid
for?
When my PC wasn't crashing (very rarely), using Dreamweaver
was fantastic. I've now got a Mac and used the same installation
disc to install the same software - Studio 8 - and it works great
(almost). In Windows I can copy and paste a table from Excel into a
webpage in Dreamweaver, on the Mac all formatting gets removed and
it's pasted in as normal text. I can't afford to get Office for
Mac, let alone the demanded Adobe upgrade (I've spent over a
thousand pounds on the Mac itself). So instead of using Office for
Mac, I am copying the table from Neo Office (Open Office on Mac),
perhaps this is the problem.
Can you, using a Mac, copy a table from NeoOffice or Excel into
Dreamweaver and not lose the table elements?

No. But you are....

  • Adobe Trial Software expires after one day if launched in June 2008

A large majority of Adobe Trial Software Packages, including After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Illustrator, contain a time-out bug which will affect people who launch the trial for the first time in June 2008. Users who launch a trial application for the first time in June 2008 will be given only one day, rather than 30 days, to trial the software.
When you open the trial version of an Adobe program, you are warned that the trial will expire after one day. When you open the trial after that day, the trial has expired.
If you decide to purchase the product in June, instead of having 30 days to activate your product, you only have one day to activate.
Users who first launched their trial before June 2008 are not affected.
Adobe have released a Trial Repair Tool, which will grant 65 days of trial use for users who have launched in June 2008. Download the Repair Tool here:
    http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/all/mac/TrialRepairTool.dmg
Please read the Adobe Technote for complete details and instructions on use of the Trial Repair Tool.

No. Get used to it. It's called progress. No offense, but generally I get the impression that you are looking for something that nobody realyl will be able to help you with. If your whole workflow is based on outdated trial versions (and that includes your old AutoCAD), it begins to smell like you have done that for a while now and only now it doesn't work and then we are quickly approaching the sign that says "Piracy town, next crossing left". Either that, ore you are stuck with a 10 year old computer, in which case you will have to straighten out that first.

I downloaded the adobe XI software and it shows in my Adobe download assistant as downloaded but I can not open it and it is not a part of my applications. Very frustrating download process as I just want to convert a PDF file to an editable word document...

Odonnells52 you will still need to install Adobe Acrobat Professional prior to being able to make edits to PDF or utilize Acrobat.   By default the installation files have been saved to your download folder.
If you continue to face difficulties with the Adobe Download Assistant then please see Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant.
You can also download the installation files directly from Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X if you are unable to locate the downloaded installation files.

  • How can I backup Adobe's software activation?

I have purchased Adobe Creative Suite CS6 for Windows and am using it on my desktop and notebook computer. This is the maximum number of computers I'm allowed to use it on. Since the software has an activation and deactivation feature and requires an internet connection, I assume that an activation on a third computer would not be possible. So I really have to make sure that I don't lose any of the two systems because I'd also lose one activation with it. (Or I'd need to mess with the support which I'm trying to avoid.)
Today I've noticed that my notebook shows strange error messages. Applications were missing or would not start due to wrong reasons (not compatible with x64, although this was specificly the x64 version, and it's always worked fine). I ran a chkdsk and it fixed tons or filesystem errors. Now other programs are missing and I can't even install any new ones... Unfortunately I noticed the error while trying to perform a Windows system backup. That stupid thing deleted the old version and messed up the new one. So I haven't got any right now. There's also no system restore points, so I can only reinstall the system.
Don't worry, no user data is lost, but I'm kind of lucky that Photoshop still started and I could deactivate it before that wouldn't work anymore as well. (Computer systems often die slowly...)
So my question is: What files or registry keys do I need to copy to a safe location to backup Adobe's software activation on my computer? Would it be possible to restore such a backup on the very same hardware (maybe another disk drive in case the previous one died) but with a freshly installed Windows (same version)? I've learned several times that I cannot rely on a complete system image backup. The only backups that have ever worked 100% reliably for me were those where I copied files to a known location in a known format. But that doesn't include the activation I guess. I'd like to know where it is located so that I can perform a decent backup of it.

So even a complete system backup would not help in this case?
As long as nothing in your computer has changed, a system backup/restore will keep the activation. There are various things that activation looks at to produce the activation key, MAC address & HD are two of the obvious ones (there are more). So, as long as the backup is used to resotre on the same hardware, you shouldn't have to worry about re-activation.
If the computer breaks and you need to install on a new computer, you'll need to contact the Adobe Activation customer service to reset your activations. For more info see: Activation, deactivation | Adobe products

There are known technical issues with any older version on Yosemite, even CS6. Some can be worked out, others may not be relevant to you, some will remain unsolved.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 Installation Failed - Adobe Genuine Software Verification Failure

I bought and downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 from Amazon, which would seem to be a legitimate source. Everything runs smoothly, and seems correct up until the point of installation, when this happens after the installation process reaches 99%. The message simply reads: "The product you are trying to install is not an Adobe Genuine Software and appears to be counterfeit." This doesn't seem right. What is going on? How can I successfully install Elements?

  • 4K Resolution in Windows 7/8: Bug in all Adobe CC Software

I just read an article in the renowned german IT magazin c't 2014-10 p 122 about 4K displays and problems with scaling of some software.
The complete Adobe CC software is unusable under Windows 7/8 because their interface elements like buttons etc. does not scale.
The magazin wrote, that Adobe knows of that bug.
    There's no workaround at all.
Please vote for a dispatching of that bug.
If anyone knows the number/link of this specific bug, please let us know.
    Thanks.

Hi, I'm having the same issue I think. My screen is 4K Ultra HD and because of this the menus etc. appear incredibly small at the side of the screen. This is the case with some other programs as well (but not the very recent ones such as Microsoft Office 2013).
By the way, this is the latest trial version of Photoshop CC.
I've tried lowering the resolution on the computer to 1920x1080 instead of the default Ultra HD (3840x2160) but when I do that the entire desktop becomes large and pixelated, but the problem in the Photoshop programs remain.
Any help would be really appreciated. I bought this laptop specifically for graphic design and illustration but this issue makes that impossible. Thank you.

  • How can I open purchased Adobe XI software?

I cannot open my purchased Adobe XI software with the correct serial number because a qualifying product cannot be found in my computer.  I think the reason is because I deleted the trial version because it kept opening as expired even though I bought the product.  How can I fix this problem?

If it's telling you you need a "qualifying product" then likely it is an Upgrade product you bought and not the full version.  Contact Adobe Support to be sure.  Give them your serial number and they will tell you whether it's an upgrade or a full license.  However if you have not opened the package yet then do not and see if you can return it to the vendor for an exchange of the correct full license.
